THE FAIRTAX BOOK!
One Week from Tomorrow

Several weeks ago The FairTax Book reached Number 3 on Amazon.com.  We were behind that Harry Potter book and 1776.  At that point we slowed down the push ... waiting for the week before the official release of the book.  OK ... let's shoot straight here.  The more attention this book gets the more attention The FairTax gets.  If this book shows up on the New York Times Bestseller's list more and more editors, producers and opinion-makers will take note.  They'll get curious.  They'll want to know why people are reading this book, and what The FairTax is all about.  The 600,000 FairTax volunteers around this country, and millions of Americans think that The FairTax can revolutionize our economy and could turn into the greatest poverty-fighting and economic growth tool of the past 50 years.  The President's tax reform commission is readying its report.  It will be released soon.  The tax debate will move to center stage, and we want The FairTax to be there.  So ... if you want the book, now's the time to order.  Amazon.com will report all pre-release sales very soon and if that number is high enough The FairTax book stands a chance of debuting on the Bestseller's list.  So ... click on the link above and add a few copies of the book to that list; one for you, one for someone else that needs convincing.

About the book tour ... here's the schedule. Times, addresses, etc. to be added soon.

BOORTZ IS BACK!

So ... after one night in Orange County, New York, five nights in Lenox, Mass., two nights in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, and one night visiting the Hannitys near NYC, it's back to Atlanta or a week of relative calm before the book tour starts.  Just a few random thoughts gathered along the way:

Minivans.  The same here as there.  One of the worst things you can encounter on an expressway is a minivan in the fast lanes.  This is not just in my home state .. It applies to New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island. Connecticut and New York also.  I just don't know what it is about minivans .. but their drivers are universally horrid.

I don't like Wagner operas.  The Tanglewood performing arts center in Lenox, Mass is great ... But you're going to have to pay me to sit through another symphony performance of any act from a Wagner work.  By the way ... I thought Wagner was German.  Turns out he's from Appalachia.  This whole thing was about incest ... brother and sister.  Wagner did write Die Walkure .. which would sound great being played on huge loudspeakers as American troops finally close in on the Osama's hiding place.

The Vineyard is expensive.  Notice I didn't say "Martha's Vineyard."  If you want to sound like you know what in the world you're talking about you just call it "The Vineyard."  Edgartown is quaint ... but every time I saw an Edgartown police officer I couldn't help but think of how his predecessors many years ago worked so hard to cover up Ted Kennedy's actions and crimes when he left Mary Jo Kopechne to suffocate while trapped in that car in just four feet of water.  I've now visited that bridge ... traced the route Ted Kennedy says he jogged ... and boated across the channel Kennedy says he swam ... after that jog.  He's lying ... and the Edgartown police covered it up.  I wonder how much Kennedy money that took.

Many New Englanders have an unmistakable air of superiority.  Slip up and let them know from the South and that superiority blossoms forth.  It's fun, though.  While operating under the assumption that you're a moron, these New Englanders will finally say something resoundingly stupid .. you then step in for the swift and certain kill.  It's a way to pass the time.

LET'S START THE PROFILING!

Over the weekend I saw video of police in New York City conducting random searches of backpacks, handbags and packages on NYC subways.  There they were, going through the purses of little grey-haired old ladies, young flat-bellies, and various people that nobody in their right minds would think might be carrying a bomb.  When are we going to get serious about this?  Resources are limited, so those resources need to be applied as efficiently as possible.  That means profiling!  We are going to end up getting someone killed with this asinine political correctness.  If you want to save lives, if you want a better chance of preventing an attack, you look for people who resemble those who have pledged to kill us.  You look for Arabs and anyone who looks like they might be from the Middle East.  You search Muslims.  If they don't like it, remind them of just who it is who brought this situation to bear.  Tell them that when their mad Mullahs stop encouraging impressionable young Arabs to kill themselves in suicide attacks, they just might be able to get on a subway train again without intrusive searches.

TRAGIC MISTAKE ... SO LET'S DISARM THE BRITISH COPS.

Friday's shooting of Brazilian national Jean Charles de Menezes in London has continued to cause quite a bit of a stir.  He's the 27-year-old that was wearing a heavy jacket on a hot day and when police started to question him, he ran.  It's not a good idea to run from police who are already antsy because of two terrorist attacks.  He walked out of a house under surveillance, the police followed him and then they attempted to question him.  He ran onto a subway train, and the cops, thinking suicide bomber, ran him down and put five holes in his head.  Why the head?  According to London's police chief Ian Blair, "There's no point in shooting at somebody's chest because that's where the bomb is likely to be.  There's no point in shooting anywhere else because if they fall down they detonate it."  Makes sense.  Oh, in case you're wondering, Menezes spoke English and could clearly understand the orders from the police.  On the other hand, the police were not in uniform ... and we can well understand why Menezes might have been frightened enough to run.

Initially, the Metro London PD said the shooting was connected to the terrorist bombings on 7/7 and the botched bombings last week.  But after further investigation, it was disclosed that Jean Charles de Menezes was simply someone who ran from some guys who were chasing him through the streets of London.

Brazil  is demanding an explanation.  Fair enough. . His mother and father were crying on TV.  It's easy to feel much sorrow for them.  The media wringed their hands all weekend, worried what this might do to Britain's War on Terror.  The cops have said they're sorry.

The British police aren't trying to kill innocent civilians.  They're trying to protect London and its people, Brits and foreigners alike.  They have made a horrible mistake .. understandable, but horrible.  Now we have idiots out there who want the guns to be taken away from the British police.  Now that makes perfect sense, doesn't it?  If they do find a terrorist ready to detonate a bomb they can subdue him with their British wit ... or maybe throw some Yorkshire pudding at him.

The good news?  The Brits are standing pat.  The shoot-to-kill policy is staying in place.  They say it might even happen again.  In a war against terrorism, you take no prisoners.  The cop who pulled the trigger should be right back on the job, hunting down jihadist scum.

TASERS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC

The company that makes those police tasers wants to make them available to the public.  I'm thinking about buying one.  I would much rather taser someone than shoot them if I found them in my home.  Well .. here come the usual suspects.  It would seem that the wussified element of the great American melting pot is up in arms over this plan.  They don't want civilians owning these things.  OK, fine.  If I find someone coming into my home in the middle of the night I'll just resort to the .45 caliber Glock.  Who needs a taser when you have a Glock?

DEMOCRATS ALARMED!  OH, THE HUMANITY!

The AFL-CIO is in crisis.  One huge union has split, and three more are looking at doing the same.  The complaint?  They think that the AFL-CIO is spending too much time and money on politics.  Democrats, of course, are alarmed. They have been depending on the unions for huge monetary and personnel support in past elections .. and that support may be diminished in the next election. What fun!  We'll have more to say about this on the show.

SHRILLARY TO SUPPORT ROBERTS

This woman is good.  It's amazing to watch her at work.  With the opposition to Bush's Supreme Court nominee John Roberts fizzling out (except for Ann Coulter,) many Democrats have resigned themselves to his being confirmed.  Even the Grand Wizard himself, West Virginia Senator Robert 'KKK' Byrd took to the Senate floor to sing his praises.

So .. it's time for Hillary to act.  With her eye on re-election next year in New York,  she needs to appeal to mainstream voters.  So ... knowing that Robert's confirmation is looking all-but certain, Hillary comes out in support of Roberts.  She calls him "right for the country."  Result?  More support and eventual votes for Hillary.

POLITICIAN CRASHES FUNERAL

There is a time and a place for everything, and this fact is often lost on those politicians on the extreme left.  To them, everything is a cause, and politics rules the day.  Today brings news of such an example.

Thirty-two-year-old Marine Staff Sgt. Joseph Goodrich died in Iraq two weeks ago during a mortar attack.  At his funeral last Tuesday in Pittsburgh, there were quite a few people packed into the church to pay their respects.

Enter Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll.  The good lieutenant governor decided it would be a good time and place to do a little campaigning.  She went into the church and during the distribution of communion, took a seat and started asking around to find the family.  She also passed around a business card, telling a family member "'I want you to know our government is against this war."  Not sure what that means....presumably she meant the government of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Whatever.

Some people see a funeral, this woman saw a campaign opportunity.  As you might expect, people are outraged.  Governor Ed Rendell is going to apologize to the Marine's family and says he is disturbed by what took place.  Rumors have already begun swirling that he might drop her from the '06 ticket.

Now would be a good time.

CONGRATS TO PAUL CRAWLEY

Paul is a reporter for WXIA-TV, the NBC affiliate here in Atlanta. While I as gone over the weekend there was  rather large fire in some condos or apartments near downtown Atlanta.  I turned on the tube this morning in time to see Paul deliver his update on that power.  He told of a hundred or so residents of the burned out building that were facing a few problems ... including finding another place to live.  So ... why congratulate Paul?  Because not one single time during his report did Paul say that these people "lost everything they had" or that they were "going to have to start their lives all over again."  Way to go Paul.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

You know, even a redneck might need a pda to keep track of important things. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Are you ready for World Jump Day?

The teacher's unions seem to be getting a bit upset over home schooling.  Read this for a good chuckle.

Colorado House Republican Tom Tancredo recently made the statement that the United States should bomb Mecca in response to a nuclear attack on a U.S. city by Islamic terrorists.  The Congressman responds to the controversy.

A new poll shows that Americans thinks that World War III is likely.  Here's a little news flash...we're already fighting World War III....the war against Islamic terrorism.

Dick Durbin was on Meet The Press yesterday
and was asked about John Roberts.  He says he would not apply a litmus test in voting for or against Roberts.  Then he proceeded to say that if Roberts wasn't in favor of the Roe v. Wade decision, he would be disqualified.  Sounds like a litmus test to me.

The Democrats' new tactic with John Roberts
seems to be that they want confidential documents he wrote while working as a counsel in two Republican administrations.  Fat chance.  Naturally, The Poodle is jumping up and down demanding all the documents.

Victor Davis Hanson has a point: he says we're at war...the War On Terror...so how about we start acting like it?  Good idea.

China announced the other day that they were de-linking their currency from ours.  What's behind the move?  Larry Kudlow says it's the impending retirement of Alan Greenspan.

The Karl Rove-Valerie Plame story is dying out....but the media is doing its best to revive it.  The Media Research Center reports.

The media and the Democrats have been trying to delegitimize the Bush administration for 4 1/2 years now, and Michael Barone says the Bush-bashing hasn't worked.

Are Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee going to be as nice to George Bush's nominees as they were to President Clinton's?  Not a chance, says Robert Novak.

Why do we need conservative judges?  Star Parker explains the whole judicial activist vs. strict constitutionalist thing.  A good quick explanation for those who don't quite know the difference.

Intern Heather's Reading Assignments

Something is wrong with our judicial system when a pedophile gets probation instead of having to register as a sexual predator.

These people are missing more teeth than a group of rednecks at a frog gigging fest.

Salt Lake City is sprouting weeds in flower pots on the streets throughout town. "...But it looks like am elm tree..."

A hiker survived 5 days in a lava field, on nothing but moss. In other news, moss grows on lava and Kudzu grows on cement.

A cloud of dust from the Sahara travels up the side of the world. Maybe your sunset will be affected by it!

Still racing to space, the countdown to Tuesday's 10:39 launch .
