JUST WHAT IS THE BIG PROBLEM WITH PRIVATE ACCOUNTS?

The Democrats have now told the Bush Administration that they are willing to talk about Social Security reform.  They are willing to talk so long as there is no talk of private social security accounts.

I launched into a particularly good rant/sermon from the pulpit of the Church of the Painful Truth earlier this week .. a sermon about the most dangerous epidemic sweeping this country, the epidemic of stupidity.  Actually, it's more of an epidemic of ignorance.  Stupidity means you can't learn.  Ignorance means you haven't.  We talk about the epidemic of obesity, and all that it is costing us in terms of illness and medical expenses.  Obesity?  That's small stuff compared to what this epidemic of ignorance is costing us.  And while we're at it ... government schools are to ignorance what fast food is to obesity.  We know where it's coming from ... yet we tolerate and support it.

Why can't people see through the Democrats on this one?  How in the world do you garner so much public support for the idea that in a free country it is better for you to turn over your hard-earned bucks to the government on a vague and breakable promise that some of that money will be returned to you at some time in the future .. as agreed to by politicians?  How in the world can people accept this premise over the idea that your money should remain in an account owned and, to an extent, controlled by you where there is a guarantee that either you or your heirs will eventually get it all back .. with interest?  Why can't people see through this?  Because they're ignorant, that's why.  Economically brain-dead.

What are the Democrats after?  One word.  Control.  Control of you.  Control of our senior citizens.  As long as they have control over these retirement funds that should, in a sane world, be under your control ... as long as the government controls those funds, the government controls you.  Tell me --- how, if you own your own retirement account --- can Democratic demagogues tell you that if you vote for anyone but them that some evil force is going to come and take that account away from you?  Answer?  They can't!  They know that you'll look at them like they've lost their minds?  You would know that you own that account, and that the money is yours, and that it isn't going to be taken away simply because you voted for a Republican ... or, preferably, a Libertarian.

Bottom line ... Democrats wouldn't be able to defend the current Social Security system as they are if the American people had even the most basic level of economic knowledge.  When you drop your child off off at your local government school next Monday .. think about it.

OK ... THAT'S IT.

Throw that weird, bleached-out whatever in the world he is in jail right now.  Showing up for court in your pajamas?  He remembered his umbrella, but not his pants?  He has all these people hanging around him, and nobody had a pair of pants?  There is a kid on the stand testifying that Michael Jackson abused children in his bedroom .... in his bed, for God's sake ... and Jackson shows up for court in his pajamas?   This freakoid is showing his absolute contempt for the court and for the entire process.  The judge should have said ... OK, pal.  You brought your PJs, so that must mean you meant to spend the night.  I'll be happy to accommodate you.

Gawd ... is this creep strange or what? Follow all the gory details here if you must.

THE MIGHTY MORPHING HILDABEAST

New York Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton is up for re-election next year.  New York is a blue state that voted for John Kerry.  Yet Saint Hillary is smart enough to look at election returns and trends and know that if she runs as herself, she might lose.  After all, New York - although a liberal state - does have a Republican governor and did elect Rudolph Giuliani as mayor of New York City.  Simply put, if The Hildabeast wants 6 more years in the United States Senate (really 2 more, since she's running for president in '08) she is going to have to move to the center to appeal to swing voters.

And thus the transformation has begun.  First, Hillary Clinton came out against illegal immigration.  This is where a lot of Republicans are scratching their head...because George Bush seems to want to roll out the welcome mat for law-breaking illegal aliens in this country.  Sensing an opening, Hillary stepped up.  Now she has scored points with center-right voters who believe we need to crack down on illegals in this country.

Next, she decided that it was time to snuggle up to so-called "values voters."  What's the best way to do it?  Time to slam sex on television.  She introduced legislation requiring the government to study the impact of media on young children.  That's nice.  Of course if you want to talk about setting an example for children, she will have to ignore her husband's 8 years in the White House.

So what's next?  An interview on the '700 Club?'  How about an affair with Jerry Falwell.  Falwell has better taste.  Maybe Benny Hinn would give her a shot.  Whatever it takes to win.  Hillary Clinton will do and say anything to remain in power.

Oh ... and then there's the question of whether or not The Hildabeast is actually going to run for reelection in New York.  Although I feel that she is an absolute candidate for the Democratic nomination in 2008 .. I do feel she will run for reelection.  She will tell the people of New York that she fully intends to serve her full six-year term.  Then .... when the time for the presidential politics comes to pass, Hillary will go on a "listening tour" of the State of New York to see if they want her to run.  That's the same ploy she ran for her husband during his last run for Governor of Arkansas, and the gimmick she used when she ran for Senator the first time.

Tricky lady ... but brilliant.

THIS IS A FIRST

Since 9/11, we have chronicled the many faces of the terrorist ideology known as Islamic terrorism.  We have seen the appeasement of Muslim radicals, the inability of the Euro-weenies to attack the problem and even wire services that refuse to call terrorists by their real name.  Instead we get words like "insurgents."  Whatever.

President Bush famously attended a service at a mosque after the savage terrorist attacks on our country and  declared that "Islam is peace."  Well, we haven't seen it.  But there are two cases that have sprung up where some Muslims  have denounced terrorism, and they deserve mentioning.

Yesterday in Spain, site of the Madrid Al-Qaeda bombing one year ago and seat of the governing surrender monkeys, Muslims issued a Fatwa against Osama Bin Laden.  What is a fatwa?  It is basically an edict, or a ruling.  What did the fatwa say?  It was issued by the organization that represents 1 million Muslims in Spain, and said that according to the Quran, "the terrorist acts of Osama bin Laden and his organization Al-Qaeda ... are totally banned and must be roundly condemned as part of Islam.''  They also went on to say that Al-Qaeda terrorists are not real Muslims.  It's about time.  Will their brothers in other parts of the world follow suit?

Another positive development comes from the Washington D.C. area.  Muslim leaders in the nation's capital denounced a suicide bombing in northern Iraq.  The leader of one of the area's biggest Sunni mosques had this to say: "This does not help the Iraqis, it does not help Islam, and it does not help the children of Iraq looking for a future."  Now...keep in mind that a Shiite mosque was bombed in Iraq, yet a Sunni organization is denouncing the act.  This is progress.

It's about time these people speak  up....now if the mainstream media will actually report it, we'll be getting somewhere.

OK ... SOMEONE ADOPT FRANKIE

I've had all type of dogs.  Boxers, Malamutes, Goldens, mutts ... you name it.  The absolute, drop-dead best dog I've ever had is my beast Coco the Papillon.  Now that picture you see here is Frankie the Papillon, and he is ready for you to take him home.  Click on this link right here to learn more.  I want one of my dog-loving listeners to have Frankie in his or her home by the weekend.  If you happen to live in the Naples - Ft. Myers area I'll be glad to bring Frankie down there to you next week.  He's a doll .. so get with it.  Rescue Frankie.

SCAM WARNING

I don't usually post spam or scam or virus warnings on these pages.  Usually they're bogus, and sometimes the warnings themselves contain viruses or something unpleasant.  Furthermore, I just hate it when people forward too many warnings or virus alerts.  OK .. having said all this, I am forwarding you a warning about a scam.  Sorry,  but this one is important!  I want you to send this warning to everyone on your e-mail list!

If someone comes to your front door saying they are conducting a survey on deer ticks and asks you to take your clothes off and jump around to see how many fall off. . Do not do it! IT IS A SCAM! They only want to see you naked.

I wish I'd gotten this yesterday.  . . I feel so stupid now.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Will private accounts in Social Security work?  Absolutely...in fact, they're already working.  In Chile, where 25 years ago they privatized their system, private investment accounts are working marvelously.

Are gas prices currently the highest in history, as the media would have you believe?  Not even close.  Actually, as this chart shows...adjusted for inflation, gasoline has steadily declined in price since 1980.  But what about before 1980?  Same trend...again, adjusted for inflation, prices have been declining or steady since 1920, as this graph from 2000 shows.

With Dan Rather stepping down, you might wonder what a smart man like Thomas Sowell has to say about Dan's Retirement.  It can be summed up in the title of his latest column: good riddance.

The only thing missing from Dan Rather's sign off Wednesday  night was a helicopter ride and the Nixonian two-handed victory sign.  Jonah Goldberg weighs in on Dan-O's retirement.

John Bolton has been nominated to be the next ambassador to the United Nations, and Oliver North writes him a letter of congratulations, published in his column this week.  Interesting reading.

Wednesday night's Dan Rather special mentioned his conservative critics, and The Media Research Center was featured.  Here's what they have to say about it.

The media has done an interesting 180 on Iraq following the successful elections there....but Bret Stephens says they've done it before.  Remember how Japan was supposed to have taken over the world in the 80's?

Now that Mary Frances Berry is out at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, George Will says it's not time to celebrate new leadership, it's time to disband the entire organization.

The economic boom in China has everyone talking about their mighty ascendancy onto the economic world stage.  But James Pinkerton says a little perspective is in order.

Here's proof that Democrats know no limits when it comes to the hunger of government for more tax revenues.  A Democrat in Florida wants to tax toilet paper.  2 cents a roll, by the way.

Along the same lines and equally as ridiculous...a Democratic legislator in New Jersey wants to tax poker shows on TV.  That's right....she wants to tax the actual shows.
