TERRORISTS ATTACK DEMOCRACY
Breaking news this morning....two bombs were set off outside the British
Consulate in New York City. Thankfully, the bombs hurt no one and didn't even
really damage the buildings. So what's this all about?
Today in Great Britain, the British people head to the polls. They'll be
deciding whether or not to elect Tony Blair to a third term. Prime Minister
Blair has stood with George Bush and the American people in the fight against
Islamic terrorism. It's probably going to be found that these attacks were
designed to influence the outcome of the election. It worked in Spain, right?
Will the people of England be scared into supporting a terrorist-appeaser and
throwing Tony Blair out of office? Probably not. He seems likely to cruise to
re-election. Some may not even notice this attack at the British Consulate,
since it wasn't successful. But you can bet the person setting off the bombs was
an Islamic terrorist trying to disrupt the election.
MARINE CLEARED IN SHOOTING
Boy, military investigations sure seem to be doing their jobs lately. Navy
investigators have
cleared the Marine that shot an insurgent dead inside a
mosque in Fallujah back in November. The shooting achieved instant fame due to
it being caught on video tape by NBC cameraman Kevin Sites.
As soon as the footage aired, the media and the left were beside themselves.
After whining about how the all-important "Arab World" would react, they made it
seem as if this young man walked right into a mosque and executed a worshiper.
As the investigation found, that isn't what happened at all.
Among their findings: the shooting was in self-defense, and the Marine will not
face charges. This is absolutely the right decision. The battle-weary Marines
involved were engaged in door-to-door combat in Fallujah, at the height of the
insurgency there. The mosque where these scumbags had been shooting from had
been full of Islamic terrorists trying to kill American soldiers.
When the Marine in question entered that mosque, he had no idea that the
insurgents lying on the ground were injured combatants from the previous day. He
even said so when informed of that fact, saying "I didn't know, sir. I didn't
know." Was the insurgent laying there, pretending to be dead, armed with a
suicide bomb? That's happened several times. These are the split-second
decisions our men and women in uniform have to make every day over there. One
wrong answer and you're tango uniform. With the stakes so high, they have to err
on the side of caution.
It's nice to see the anti-American, terrorist-appeasers on the left aren't
running Military investigations. The right decision was made here. As for the
Islamic terrorist that the soldier killed...it's easiest just to quote the other
soldier seen on the tape: "Well, he's dead now."
LYNNDIE OFF THE HOOK FOR NOW
There was a bombshell dropped at the Lynndie England trial yesterday down at
Fort Hood, Texas. As you may know, she had worked out a plea agreement with
prosecutors where she would get a couple charges dropped in exchange for
hopefully (but not guaranteed) a lenient sentence. She had no doubt seen the
book get thrown at her Abu Ghraib booty call partner Charles Graner, and she
wanted a deal.
So at this hearing, Graner was there testifying on the part of the defense at
the sentencing hearing. Lynndie England had Charles Graner's baby, by the way.
Maybe they should have the next trial on the Jerry Springer Show. Anyway, Graner
says the pictures taken of England, the one showing her with a prisoner on a
leash, were taken to be used as a training aid for other guards. Wrong answer.
The judge stopped the trial and let the defense have it. Lynndie England had
said in her plea bargain that the photos were taken for the amusement of the
other guards. Somebody's lying. So the judge, Colonel James Pohl,
declared a
mistrial. He correctly pointed out that "you can't have a one-person
conspiracy." So why did he do what he did?
The judge says that under the law he could only accept her plea agreement if she
knew at the time that what she was doing was illegal. It would seem that from
earlier testimony that Lynndie England is a bit, well, slow. The defense
mentioned something about her being oxygen-deprived at birth. So the judge
evidently thinks she got sucked into taking the fall for something she was
coerced into doing.
So we're back to square one. It will be interesting to see what charges will be
re-filed, if any. One thing's for sure...Lynndie England got seriously lucky
yesterday, and not in a way she's used to.
NOW SHE'S 'DEEPLY REGRETFUL'
This story really should go away, but a few thoughts on the runaway bride,
Jennifer Wilbanks. She seems to be getting some bad advice. It's been a week
since the whole debacle went down, and we've yet to hear from her.
During that time, we've had the prosecutor threatening to charge her with making
a false report of a kidnapping, she's been threatened with a civil suit for the
costs of looking for her...and yet, still not a peep from Jennifer Wilbanks.
This is a mistake.
Really, all a lot of people in Duluth, Georgia want to see is her sincerely
apologize for her actions. The longer she
hides behind her attorney, the more
resentment (if that's possible) she's going to see directed toward her. No
amount of statements from her lawyer about how regretful she is, how she's a
mess or how she's seeking professional help is going to satisfy people whose
time and money were wasted on her little escapade.
She could hold a press conference today and make all of this go away. Supposedly
she's going to make a statement. That should be interesting. People don't want
to hear excuses. She better say she's sorry and admit what she did. Otherwise,
she could be headed up the river without a paddle.
Oh, and it's not helping that her lawyer is out there whining about how she was
under a lot of stress and had to take action. Please. Go sell crazy some place
else, lady. We're all stocked up.
REDNECK SCRAPBOOK
As Neal promised yesterday, here is the first installment of the Redneck
Scrapbook series. This came by email, so we don't know the original source. If
you know, tell us and we'll give credit. Oh yeah, these might be a little racy
for work. Paris, France |

Tony Blair is still expected to cruise to a third-term victory,
