BROADCASTING TODAY FROM ORLANDO!
I think the folks back at the home base have all but forgotten what I look like,
and that's usually a good thing for me. Today we'll be broadcasting from The
Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes near Orlando. It's the 1st Annual "Neal Boortz
Invitational AM 580 WDBO Golf Tournament." You might be interested in knowing
that this is the golf course where Tiger Woods filmed those Tiger Challenge
commercials. So, the big difference today will be that I'm not giving away any
cars. So ... it's hit some little round white balls with my wonderful Orlando
listeners ... then back to home base!
BELINDA'S QUOTE OF THE DAY Having a smoking section in a restaurant is about as effective as having a
pee section in a swimming pool. NOT A GOOD WEEK FOR GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS ....
... but then, what week IS a good week for turning your child over to the
government to be educated?
Dacula High School, Gwinnett County, Georgia
You heard about this last week on the show, and you saw Larry Nease on CNN this
morning. "Doc" Nease is a science teacher at Dacula High School. For the past 10
years or more Doc has had a policy in his classrooms that if you fall asleep or
disrupt the class you will get a zero for your class work for that day, or your
grade will be cut drastically. Little Wesley, the football player, fell asleep
in class. In fact, after an assignment was handed out Wesley the Football Player
just put his head down on his desk and went to sleep. He did his assignment that
night and handed it in the next day, as was allowed. But he got his zero. Wesley
the Football Player's Daddy came to school to complain. Did the principal stand
by the teacher? Nope. Did the Gwinnett County School Board stand by the teacher?
Nope.
Doc Nease was fired. Twenty-three years teaching, and he was fired because
he fulfilled a promise he made to his class -- in writing -- that if you fall
asleep in class you can get a zero for that day's work. The dictate from the
teacher was included in a class syllabus that all students had to sign. I'm told
that our football player's parents also signed the syllabus. No matter. You just
don't screw with high school football players.
Spencer High School, Columbus, Georgia
You've heard about this one too. Spencer High School. Columbus, Georgia is a
heavy-military area, home to Ft. Benning. Kevin's mother is an Army Sergeant.
She's in Iraq. Kevin is in Spencer High School. Kevin's mom calls him on his
cell phone ... from Iraq. It's lunch break at the high school, so Kevin goes
outside to take the call. One of our wonderful government teachers sees him and
demands he hang up. He explains that his mom has called from Iraq. This matters
none to the teacher. She demands he hang up and tries to grab the phone. In the
tussle the call is disconnected. The teacher starts marching Kevin to the
principal's office. His mother calls back. They refuse to allow him to take the
call. He gets belligerent. Who the hell wouldn't? He knows his mom is in
dangerous territory. She could die that afternoon in an insurgent attack. He
wants to talk to her ... they won't allow him to answer the phone. End result?
He gets suspended for 10 days.
That suspension has now been reduced to three
days ... all due to public outrage.
Bow High School, Bow, New Hampshire
Isabel Gottlieb is a great student. She plays in the school band. She is taking
advanced placement classes. Things like calculus and biology. She isn't going to
be allowed to graduate with her class. Why?
Because she didn't take a required
PE class. Physical Education. She holds varsity letters in three sports at Bow
High School, but she didn't take this particular PE class. She was told that in
order to graduate she would have to drop one of her advanced placement classes
and replace it with the PE class. She said no. Now she isn't going to get her
diploma. There is no PE class offered during summer school, so that means she
might not be able to go to college next Fall. Trinity College in Hartford, CT
comes to the rescue. She will take her GED test over the summer and Trinity has
accepted her for the Fall semester.
These kinds of idiocy can only happen at the hands of government. All of these
incidents .. and don't we all know that there are so many more .. happened in
government schools .. and all within the last week.
There are several things that must happen in our nation is going to survive ...
and survival is by no means guaranteed. One of those things is that the American
people need to come to the realization that it is counterproductive to the cause
of freedom and economic liberty to turn out children over to the government to
be educated. Year after year the quality of education in this country goes down.
These government schools are under the full and complete grip of the largest,
most powerful and most feared union in this nation .. The National Education
Association.
There was a reason why Karl Marx insisted that government control over education
was an essential step in bringing about the communist state. Government
education is no less necessary to the growth of government power today than it
was then.
AND WHAT PART OF THIS SURPRISES YOU?
The New York Times is reporting today that the Imperial Federal Government of
the United States has spent about $4 billion dollars on transportation security
since September 11, 2001 .. and that
much of it has been wasted. The tab
includes $3.2 for checked luggage screening, $112 million for carry-on baggage
screening, $500 million for port radiation screening. None of these systems are
working as advertised. But what the hell .. its only your tax money. They can
now spend a planned $7 billion more to make things right.
THE DESPICABLE HARRY REID
Democrats have long been whining in Washington about how George Bush has
"divided the country." The media has become obsessed with the notion that just
because there are political differences in the United States, it's George Bush's
fault. The Poodle apparently brought it up in his telephone conversation with
the president when he conceded.
So with the cry from the left for more cooperation, it was worth noting the
recent comments of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, which made news over the
weekend. Senator Reid said this about the president, when asked about his
policies: "The man's father is a wonderful human being. I think this guy is a
loser. I think President Bush is doing a bad job." Well there's nothing more
bipartisan than that, is there?
What makes this all the more despicable is that Harry Reid chose a time to say
that when the president is abroad, representing the United States as a whole.
You can bet the media overseas picked this up and Bush is hearing it over there.
Speaking of the media, you'll notice something in the non-coverage of this event
here in this country.
The mainstream media barely noticed that the Democratic leader in the Senate
called the president a loser. Now ask yourself if the situation were reversed.
What if George Bush had called Harry Reid a loser? It would still be the top
story, and we would never hear the end of it.
Remember the template: any news that's good for Bush or might bring him sympathy
gets buried.
HERE COMES THE FAST FOOD TAX
Proof yet again this morning that the government's desire for tax revenues will
never be fulfilled. The city of Detroit, already one of the most overtaxed areas
of the country, has a $300 million budget deficit. That means the government is
overspending by $300 million. At this point, the government has a few choices:
raise taxes or cut spending.
Unless you're the mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick. He wants to impose
an
additional 2% tax at fast-food restaurants. Naturally, this would be on top of
the normal sales tax. And what is his justification given for such a tax? He
says people would barely notice the 2 cents on the dollar being taken away. This
is how all tax schemes get off the ground.
People would barely notice...that's exactly what the politicians want you to
think. Such is their hunger for more of your money to spend...they'll always be
looking for more ways to take it. And what is the opposition to this tax saying?
They're complaining that the poor would be hardest hit. Who cares. Whatever
happened to the idea that all of your money belongs to you and the government
should take as little of it as possible?
Apparently the idea of keeping your own money just because it's yours has gone
out of style.
THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF WWII
President George Bush is in Russia today celebrating the end of World War II and
the defeat of Nazi Germany. He was in Red Square today as soldiers from the
former Soviet Empire marched lockstep past Lenin's Tomb. So what on Earth was
the president of the United States doing there?
Aside from being Vladimir Putin's guest and promoting relations with that
country, there's a lot more to notice here. Russia is no longer the Soviet
Union, as much as Putin would like to return to the glory days. It's not even a
Superpower anymore. So this is more about nostalgia than anything. And what
about the Soviet Union's record in World War II? It's terrible.
The Soviets did indeed help liberate Europe from the Nazis...but that's where
the celebration ends. Unlike the United States, where we promoted freedom
afterward, the Soviets themselves were no better than the Nazis. Some 20 million
people died in "Uncle Joe's" (as FDR liked to call Joseph Stalin) gulags during
his reign of terror. That's not to say one evil regime was better than the
other, just a bit of irony that Russia is acting all righteous about defeating
the Nazis.
Then there was the Soviet domination and repression of Eastern Europe that
followed World War II. There's nothing to celebrate there.

How about some Spreewells for your
