FRIDAY BOORTZ OBNOXIOUS AND INTEMPERATE THOUGHTS

I read this morning that obesity is growing in children ... and showing up at younger and younger ages.  No big surprise.  How can you expect parents who don't seem to care how their children are educated to care how their children eat?  My guess:  Children in private schools are less obese than children in government schools.

Our society is not divided into the "privileged" and the "poor."  It is divided into achievers and non-achievers. Oops!  Was that politically incorrect?  Well excuuuuussssseeee me!

It was quite a contest for a while.  Jesse Jackson vs. Al "the liar" Sharpton to see who could best capitalize on Vicente Fox's comments.  The prize goes to Jesse.  Sorry, Al.  You're up against a master race whore here.

Is used to be that a rapper would wait until his first album is out before he would shoot anybody.  Not any more.  Rapper Gucci Mane is now a wanted man.  He's wanted for a shooting last week.  One person died.  Gucci Mane's album debuted Tuesday.  Well ... it's publicity, isn't it?

The United Way is cutting off the Boy Scouts.  This time it's racial politics at work.  The United Way wants more information on the racial makeup of the Scouts in Atlanta.  Reason or excuse?

Republican Rick Santorum compared Democrats to Hitler yesterday ... just another round in the filibuster fight.  What a jerk.  Just because Democrats and leftists like to invoke the name of Hitler every time something doesn't work their way is no reason for Republicans to join in that nonsense.  Every day I'm more and more proud of my Libertarian Party membership card.

Moveon.org is running an ad on its website that shows Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist trying to blow up the U.S. Capitol.  That's how upset the left is with the idea of confirming appellate court judges with a majority of the vote in the U.S. Senate.  The liberal mind is a wondrous thing to observe.

The International Red Cross is getting on the "Americans are desecrating the Koran" bandwagon at Gitmo.  Remember, the International Red Cross is not our friend and has not been our friend for quite some time.

Bush is positioning himself to veto a bill calling for expansion of stem cell research.  I strongly believe that people will die in the future of diseases that could be stemmed from stem cell research.  All of this to comfort the so-called "pro-life" faction of the GOP.  What's pro-life about preventing research that could save lives?

FILIBUSTERING THE FILIBUSTER

The Republicans in the Senate are now officially snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.  After roaring to an increased majority in the 2004 elections after running against the Democrats' obstructionist agenda, the majority is now in the process of caving into the minority.  It really is quite astonishing to see a political party in complete control cede that control for no reason, but that's exactly what's happening.

There are 55 Republicans in the Senate.  All they need are 51 (or 50 + Dick Cheney) to change the Senate rules to cut off debate with a simple majority to force a vote.  This would be particularly useful in bringing President Bush's judicial nominees to the floor.  People like Tom Daschle were drummed out of office specifically because they obstructed the president's agenda and nominees.  People wanted action, so they elected more Republicans.

But because of the media attacks and the Democrats' whining, enough of those Republicans are getting weak-kneed.  Suddenly they're not sure if they want to slam the door on the left's ability to obstruct.  Bill Frist seems inclined to change the rules and invoke the so-called "nuclear option."  He hasn't yet, which means only one thing: he doesn't have the votes.  That means more than 5 "Republicans" are opposed to blowing up the filibuster.

So now they're cutting a deal with the enemy.  The latest proposal, a draft of which CNN revealed yesterday, would allow 5 of the 7 judges Democrats are blocking to be voted upon.  Two would be sacrificed, assuming there aren't 60 votes to get them through.  This is a pathetic display of weakness on the part of a majority that does not know how to govern.

Oh and one more thing.  Why not call the Democrats' bluff?  Instead of yielding to their threat of the filibuster, make them actually filibuster the judges around the clock.  Perhaps when Harry Reid is standing in the Senate debating at 4 in the morning on a Sunday while members sleep on the floor in the hallways, people would see them for the obstructionists that they are.

Republicans have the power.  They also have a propensity for choking.

Now ... let me make this clear.  To me this isn't a partisan Republican-Democrat thing.  I would not chose some of Bush's appointees to serve on an appeals court.  I don't want to see Roe v. Wade overturned.  I don't want to live in a country with a government strong enough to put a gun to a woman's head and force her to have a baby she does not want to have.  My position is clear.  The woman controls her body.  Simple as that.  I'm also particularly troubled by the fact that the vast majority of anti-choice zealots are men.  I used to be on the other side of this issue ... wisdom with age changed things.  These men are outraged over their perceived loss of control over their womenfolk.  Crawl into their minds and you'll hear a little voice saying "If I get my seed into her, then by God it's going to stay there."

Whew!  Glad I got that off my mind.  You can save your emails.  They'll never get to me.  My staff has specific instructions not to forward emails regarding abortion to my attention.

SADDAM IN HIS UNDERWEAR

The British tabloid The Sun has published pictures today of Saddam Hussein in his underwear folding his pants.  The pictures were apparently taken a year ago, and the U.S. Military is fast trying to find out where they came from.  It is against the Geneva Conventions to publicly humiliate prisoners and use their images in the media.  However, it would only be a violation if the pictures came from a government source.  Time will tell the answer to that.

But a side effect of these pictures is that people might look at this supposed "broken man" and feel a little sympathy for him.  Looking at an old guy in his underwear folding his pants...some might feel a bit sorry for him.  Awwwww ... poor Saddam.  After all, he once ruled a country...and here he is exposed for all to see in embarrassing fashion.  Should you start to feel sorry for Saddam Hussein, it's time for a bit of a reality check to put things back into perspective.  Here's a list of some of Saddam's atrocities:

-Systematic rape of women, including 'rape rooms' set up for the use of Saddam's cronies, including his sons
-Civilians being shredded, feet-first, in industrial shredders
-At least 1.5 million people killed by death squads
-The massacre of 5,000 Kurds with nerve gas
-Saddam offered to pay $25,000 to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers
-The raping and pillaging of Kuwait during Gulf War I

The list goes on and on and on.  So now we can all avoid feeling sorry for Grandpa Saddam.  Time to hang 'em high.

Now ... just to prove that showing somewhere in his underwear isn't such a bad thing, I'm going to have a picture of me in my underwear posted here on Nealz Nuze.  All I need to do is get someone to take the picture.

Belinda!!!! Where are you!!!!

Moveon.org is at it again....this time they're running an ad showing Bill Frist blowing up the U.S. Capitol.  Imagine if the RNC ran an ad doing that?  The media would be outraged.  Welcome to the double-standard known as the liberal media template.

New York Senator Chuck Schumer insulted a black judicial nominee
on the Senate floor the other day, and nobody seems to be noticing.  No Republican could ever get away with saying such a thing...remember Trent Lott?

Why do some people seem to disrespect Islam?  Jeff Jacoby explains in an excellent column.  Question: what do Christians, Jews and Buddhists do when their religion is insulted?  Answer: nothing, yet for some reason, Muslims tend to riot and kill people.

What do Democrats have in common with Europeans?  Jonah Goldberg says that more and more, liberals are starting to sound exactly America-hating Euro-weenies.

Whose side is the mainstream media taking in the filibuster fight?  Naturally, that of the Democrats.  The Media Research Center reports that one of the networks is playing games with a poll.

The fact that Democrats believe they have the right to deprive all Senators of the ability to vote up or down on judicial nominees itself shows the bigotry of the left.  Thomas Sowell has more.

The media is as biased as ever, and David Limbaugh says the press briefing this week where the media grilled Scott McClellan over Newsweek's mistake amounts to a seminar in media bias.

Everyone is rightfully blaming Newsweek for their faulty reporting of a Koran being flushed down the toilet.  But Mona Charen asks where the blame is for the Muslims that rioted and overreacted to the report?

Howard Dean continues to embarrass his party and make wild statements, but Robert Novak reports that some Democrats want the muzzle to be put back on.  Party officials are also worried that Dean can't control himself.

Just as they did with the Bush National Guard story, the mainstream media is covering for Newsweek....after all, the story might be fake...but it could be accurate.  Here's an example from the Seattle Times.

Here's something you won't see on CNN or read in the New York Times.  Antarctica is putting on weight. Ice weight.  I told you about this three weeks ago.  Drudge has it today.  That's about as far as it will go.

Morning Sickness: Sexual assault victim bites off part of attacker's finger. Police gather DNA evidence from it and make an arrest.
