AND YET ANOTHER GOVERNMENT SCHOOL OUTRAGE

This time we go to Eagleville High School, Tennessee.  This year's graduating valedictorian is one Abe Stokla.  Young Abe sure went out with a bang.  During Eagleville's High School graduation ceremony he made a speech.  That's what valedictorians do.  During his speech Abe Stokla said to the principal and faculty:

"You have given us the minimum required attention and education to master any station at any McDonald's anywhere.  For that, we thank you."

There was more, but at that point the school officials cut his mic.  Abe's prepared remarks contained more .. but at that point he was shut down and escorted off the stage.

What else did Abe have to say?  How about "Of course, I'm only kidding.  Eagleville is a fine institute of higher learning, with superb faculty and staff."

Nice try, Abe.  The first part of your speech was probably far more accurate than the part you didn't get to deliver.

And what about Eagleville High School?  Well, they're withholding Abe's diploma.  For what purpose?  Do they seriously think that they can deny Abe Stokla his diploma because he nailed them during his graduation speech?  He might have been better off just pulling out a gun and putting a few holes in the ceiling.

AND WHERE DOES HE GO TO SCHOOL?

And the winner of the National Geographic 17th annual geography bee is ------ 13-year-old Nathan Cornelius of Cottonwood, Minnesota!  This is no small accomplishment ... beating 5 million other kids who entered the competition.  Question:  What river was dammed to create Lake Gatun, a man-made lake in the Panama Canal system?  Answer:  The Chagres River.  Nathan handled this and other tough questions.  So, where did Nathan go to school? What great institution of learning in Cottonwood, Minn. gets to claim the credit for this smart young lad?  None, as a matter of fact.  Nathan, you see, is home schooled.  Nathan has parents who recognized and accepted their responsibility when they brought him into this world.  Nathan's parents are bright enough to realize that government is not the way to go when it comes to educating a child.  They accepted the responsibility, and educated him at home.

Not to get on my soapbox again .. but this is one of the most important issues facing our country today.  We are suffering from the impact of generation after generation of Americans who have been educated by government.  As a result America is populated by a citizenry that knows little about the founding of this country or the basics of our Constitution.  Today's Americans can't write a cogent sentence on the difference between a rule of law and a rule of man.  They believe that America is and is supposed to be a democracy, and have no idea what a constitutional republic might be or how it might operate.  Not 1 out of 100 Americans could tell you that the government of Nigeria has official representation in Washington DC, but that the government of Nebraska does not.  Few Americans know that the American economy is hamstrung by a system of taxation that puts us at a competitive disadvantage with the rest of the industrialized world.

Americans have a limited, if that, sense of self-reliance.  Health care?  That's your employer's responsibility, or your governments.  Retirement planning?  Let the government do it, we don't want to be burdened with the responsibilities.  Americans are becoming lazy and dependent .. and that is precisely and exactly what our politicians want.  A lazy and dependent American is a am American who will invite more and more government.  Again, that is just what the political class wants.  And who controls our system of education?  Why, the political class!  Politicians! What a deal?  They use their control over the education of our children to create generation after generation of dumbed-down myrmidons who believe that America is great because of its government.  What else would you expect?

This country is on the ropes, my friends.  Socialized medicine is all but inevitable, and we can't even convince a majority of the people that it is wiser for them to handle their own retirement funds rather than turn their money over to politicians to be spent on vote-buying programs.  If freedom and economic liberty is to be resurrected and preserved we must do something about the day-after-day, year-after-year indoctrination of yet another generation of Americans in this hideous system of government schools.  The first step would be school choice.  Parents ought to be allowed to make decisions as to how the money that they earn will be spent in the education of their children.  Vouchers ought to be at the top of the list when we make our decisions at the polls next November.  I don't care what else a politician might have going for him, if he doesn't support school choice, if he doesn't support vouchers, then that politicians needs to be sent home and replaced with someone who will return the control of education to the parents.

There is no one institution that has contributed more to the deterioration of America than our system of government schools.  Do Americans have the guts to stand behind their children, and their country?

KORAN ABUSE OBSESSION CONTINUES

Never has this much attention been paid to the so-called "abuse" of a book by the media.  But since we're talking about the Koran, the Muslim Holy Book, it is being treated as an international incident.  On top of that, the press perceives that Koran abuse stories are bad for George Bush, so this is what we get.  It's a repeat of Abu Ghraib.  Find a negative story ... and ride it for all it's worth.

Since Newsweek broke their story (and had to retract it because it wasn't true,) the media has been in overdrive trying to corroborate the story and cover for Newsweek.  There must have been some Koran abuse going on somewhere!  Well now we have it.  Sort of.

The ACLU has released some FBI documents that show detainees at Gitmo complained of Koran abuse. The documents also say detainees complained of the Koran being flushed down the toilet, kicked, withheld as punishment and thrown on the floor.  Say it isn't so!   The race is on by the left to cover for Newsweek, embarrass the Pentagon and bash George Bush.

But wait .. that's not the whole story.

These documents say virtually every source for a story of Koran abuse is a detainee ... a detainee who might also be an  Islamic terrorist.   Prisoners lie.  They make stuff up.  Once again, we have more uncorroborated stories.  Second, and perhaps most importantly, who cares?  We are engaged in a war for the survival of the republic against bloodthirsty Muslim jihadists that want to kill us.  The handling of their Koran should be the least of our concerns.  Do you think Muslims would allow a Christian to have a Bible in an Islamic jail?  Remember .. the confiscate and destroy Bibles in Saudi Arabia.  Sorry .. I'm not going to get all worked up over allegations from Islamic goons that their precious holy word is being abused.  BFD.

And one more thing....would the media be so worked up if a Bible were being desecrated?  Would we read stories about how groups of people would be offended? Would there be any rioting?  Nope.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL

The always reliable anti-American organization known as Amnesty International got into the United States-bashing act yesterday.  They made a statement that is quite a gem.  They came right out and accused us of running a gulag at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  Really....they don't say.

First off...let's take a look at the definition of a gulag. Gulag refers to the system of camps run by the Soviet Union between 1930 and 1955 in which millions of people died.  The gulags held political prisoners in brutal conditions.  Now let's see how that compares to things down in Cuba.  The U.S. is holding 540 Islamic terrorists prisoner.  They are illegal combatants and not entitled to Geneva conventions protection.  They were taken prisoner while trying to kill us.  Not political prisoners in the least.  They are being held with cause.

And why is Amnesty all hot and bothered about it anyway?  What about the forced labor gulags in North Korea?  Castro's Cuba?  Why are they more worried about our little prison in Guantanamo Bay?  The answer is because they are an anti-American organization and their goal is always to make America look as bad as possible.  Always blame America first.

By the way, it's interesting to note the Associated Press' discussion of the gulags in the Soviet Union, where as they say "untold thousands" died.  Still covering for Uncle Joe, I see.  Conservative estimates put the dead from Stalin's camps at more like 20 million.

540 vs. 20 million.  You be the judge.

RUNAWAY BRIDE INDICTED

Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter got a grand jury indictment yesterday of Jennifer Wilbanks on two charges...making a false statement and making a false police report.  The max is 6 years in prison and $11,000 in fines.  She won't come close to doing the 6 years...these charges are just to make a point.  Look for a fine and picking up some trash along the Gwinnett county roads.

Jennifer Wilbanks is getting off easy.  She lied and made a false report to the Albuquerque police, for which they say she won't be charged.  She apparently lied to state officials...the GBI, as well as the FBI.  If they wanted to really throw the book at her, she could be tied up in court for quite some time.  She's also already a three-time loser.  Three shoplifting charges .. one a felony charge.

But would it have come to this if she had stepped up to a podium the day after she came back, cried in public and apologized for what she did?  Not at all.  It's only her decision to not apologize to people directly that has her head on the chopping block.

She's supposed to be arrested sometime soon.  Evidently she's currently seeking professional help.  As long as still intends to marry this head case, John Mason is the one that really needs some couch time.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

I wonder if this pet carrier is approved for carrying on to an airplane? Probably not, but it'll do just fine on the seat of your truck. More redneck scrapbook pictures. Oh, and a bonus sent in by Michael D.: the Redneck IQ Test.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

PBS not biased?  Ann Coulter runs down a startling list of the publicly-funded network's more left-leaning moments. You will be shocked, but not surprised.

The Pig Farmer is wanted in connection with the disappearance of 60 women.  So that's what he's been doing all this time!

Is it time to cut the RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) from the GOP herd?  Craige McMillan thinks so....and says they should be put out to pasture for selling out their party.

Pat Buchanan says what a lot of people are thinking
about the filibuster deal...John McCain sold out the Republican party.

Dick Morris disagrees....he says the deal restores power to the more moderate, and saner middle.

What's the biggest reason why we haven't had Social Security reform?  It's because there's no reasoning with the Gimme Generation.  Ruben Navarrette explains.

One thing's for sure....the media loves the filibuster deal.  Remember, if it's bad for Republicans, you can always count on the press to be right there lapping it up.  The Media Research Center has more.

Al Sharpton is demanding an apology from Vicente Fox for his comments, but Larry Elder wants to know when Al Sharpton will apologize for the Tawana Brawley incident.

Jay Bryant has an interesting take on the filibuster deal.  He says the moderate Democrats that signed onto the deal now can't really filibuster any of Bush's Supreme Court nominees...they're backed into a bit of a corner.

What is President Bush's secret weapon?  Suzanne Fields says it's Laura Bush...and she points to her Middle East trip along with polls showing she would easily beat Hillary Clinton in a direct race.

Morning Sickness: Dentist who squirted semen into female patients' mouths gets probation...police officer who put a toy banana in his pants gets 20 days jail time. What???
