Today's Atlanta Urban Journal-Constitution brings us a lengthy article about the panic being felt by evacuees living off the taxpayers in Atlanta-area hotels. One evacuee, Victoria Johnson, says she became petrified when she heard the news. She asked her daughter "What are we going to do? Where are we going to go?" (There was no mention in the article of Victoria's husband or babydaddy.) Yesterday Victoria attended a seminar. A jobs seminar? A seminar on how to perfect your resume? Nope. A housing seminar. Advocates for the poor are saying that they are shocked ... just shocked! The newspaper notes that panic has been spreading among charitable agencies who have been working to help these people find ...... places to live. Throughout the entire article there was not one mention of work. Nothing about finding jobs. Not a phrase about personal responsibility. It's all about free housing -- it's all about getting other people to pay for a place for you to live. What a tough call this was. Now ... just wait. In a week or so someone is going to call FEMA the Grinch because the agency is turning so many children out into the cold just before Christmas.
REDNECK SCRAP BOOK I guess sometimes you've just got to be blunt. Thanks to Chris Hurt for this one. More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS Here is the transcript of Dick Cheney's remarks yesterday in which he takes on the Democrats. It's about time...it shouldn't have taken the administration this long to hit back. The cable news wars are heating up....and getting ugly. A guest was booted off Keith Olbermann's show for refusing to call for Bill O'Reilly's firing. New documents show Saddam was making preparations to hide his Weapons of Mass Destruction prior to the U.S. invasion. These same documents also show his ties to Al-Qaeda...before 9/11. Looks like the entire Democratic party's argument against the war just went out the window. Former FBI Director Louis Freeh wants to know why the 9/11 Commission ignored 'Able Danger.' Freeh says the 9/11 Commission itself are the ones that need to be behind the witness table. The Senate has voted to keep Islamic terrorist prisoners out of the federal court systems. Robert Novak looks at the real agenda behind the move to give new rights to the enemy combatants. A recent poll shows that only 2 percent of blacks approve of President Bush's performance. Larry Elder says that if only blacks knew the true history of the Democratic party, that number would be much higher. Is the 20-year-old job application in which Supreme Court Nominee Samuel Alito says he disagrees with the Roe v. Wade decision the smoking gun Democrats need to sink his nomination? Emmett Tyrrell says not exactly. Liberals love to talk about things like universal health care and controlling the price of pharmaceuticals...but Thomas Sowell says it's time to look at countries where exactly that has taken place. The track record isn't very good. Is George Bush politically done for? Not at all, says Jeff Jacoby, who tells us Bush will bounce back just like Harry Truman did. Those who think illegal immigration is going to be a huge issue should look at the governor's race in Virginia, where the loser made a big deal out of it and got nowhere. Linda Chavez has more. If you don't see the danger in this, then you are completely brain-dead. A Harvard University Study shows that college students in the United States trust the United Nations more than they trust the federal government of the United States. Isn't it so wonderful to be living through those magic college years when you know everything? | ||
