| Monday -- November 21, 2005 BOORTZ MESSES UP THE NUZE! Well ... I really messed up this time. I forgot the winsome web wench was on vacation. So, even though I prepared one fine set of program notes, you won't see them here. They're somewhere on the Web Wench's email server. And so it goes. I guess you'll have to listen to the actual show today to see what's going on! (someone snuck in here and posted the notes. can't have you people going without.) THE GEORGIA AQUARIUMToday is the grand opening (for season pass holders) of the Georgia Aquarium. There just aren't words to tell you how absolutely spectacular this aquarium is. I've been to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and ... as much as I love Chicago ... the Georgia Aquarium is better. Much better. A few moments, please, to tell you about Bernie Marcus. Bernie Marcus and his partner Arthur Blank (now the owner of the Atlanta Falcons) started Home Depot in Atlanta many years ago. As many of you know, Home Depot became one of America's and the free market's greatest success stories over the past three decades. Bernie Marcus, now retired from Home Depot, wanted to do something for the people of Atlanta, the people who helped make the Home Depot dream come true. So --- he built this aquarium. Most of the money it took to build this incredible facility came from Bernie's bank account. He personally paid over $200 million for the construction of this fantastic facility. For those of you familiar with Atlanta, the aquarium is located on the north end of the Centennial Olympic Park. Already the land around the aquarium is slated for development. Condos, restaurants, shopping facilities, and the World of Coca Cola right next door. The Georgia Aquarium is going to be a major player in the revitalization of downtown Atlanta. I hope the people of Atlanta realize just how much they owe Bernie Marcus for his fantastic gift. ANY WAY YOU CUT IT, THE TERRORISTS WERE PLEASED I guess you could say we had a rather interesting week in Congress last week. We had Democratic Congressman John Murtha calling for the United States to withdraw from Iraq, the Democrats and the media hammering their "Bush lied" nonsense, a Republican Congressman reading a constituent email inferring that Murtha is a coward, and an overwhelming vote against an immediate withdrawal of American troops. Quite a show! Over the weekend a continuing stream of analysts and political talking heads were trying to figure out just who the big winners were last week. Did the Republicans win because of the lopsided vote against withdrawal? Did the Democrats win because of the raucous debate? Who knows? But there is one clear winner out there. Islamic terrorists. The Islamic jihadist radicals who's ultimate goal is to destroy Western culture. Now these Islamic fanatics can sit back and watch the American political class trying to rip out each other's throats. Tell me the Islamo-fascists aren't just thrilled today. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE PUT UP ... OR SHUT UP Would you like to see a completely dumb expression --- the mother of all dumb expressions --- come across the face of someone? It's really not all that hard. Just find some fool out there screaming the "Bush lied" theme. Find someone claiming that Bush lied to get us into the Iraq war and ask them to tell you one specific lie Bush told. Before they get a chance to answer be sure to remind them that in order for a statement to be a lie the person making the statement must know that it was not true at the time he made it. There you go! There's that dumb, vacant expression I was telling you about! I've been asking listeners and Nuze readers to respond to this challenge for two years, and not one person has been able to step forward with any example of a lie told by President Bush as this nation was preparing to remove Saddam Hussein from power. The most common response I get is "Bush said that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction." So that's it? That's the lie that Bush was supposed to have told? Well, guess what, my myrmidon friend. That's not a lie! Saddam did have weapons of mass destruction? Maybe these "Bush lied" people can take a few minutes to explain to the rest of us just how Saddam managed to use WMDs to kill thousands of Iraqis and thousands more Iranians if he didn't have them? Oops! There's that dumb expression again. Straighten up folks! You really look rather weird standing there with your mouths hanging open like that. All you need to do to complete the picture is to turn your baseball hates backwards or sideways. p> The Democrats started this whole "Bush lied" nonsense when he said in his State of the Union speech a few years ago that French intelligence had learned that Saddam was attempting to purchase processed uranium from Africa. That, of course, was not a lie. This was indeed the finding of the French intelligence agencies, and it is a finding that they stand by to this day. The issue here wasn't whether or not Saddam was actually looking to buy that uranium in Africa; it was whether or not French intelligence thought he was. Sorry, folks. No lie. I know that this is a tough grasp for those of you who both vote Democrat and went to government schools (talk about having two strikes against you!), but it wasn't a lie. Well, the challenge is two years old, but still out there. Can someone tell me one lie Bush told? And remember, telling someone you're going to wear a white shirt to work tomorrow, and then showing up with a blue shirt because you later discovered the white shirt was dirty, doesn't mean you lied. READING ASSIGNMENTS Perhaps you haven't noticed, but there seems to be quite a campaign of hatred against Wall-Mart out there. Are you wondering what's driving all of this? Unions. Unions and Wall-Mart's competitors. Paul Jacob writes that in Maryland the Unions and Wall-Mart competitors are pushing a bill that would require all companies that employee over 10,000 people to provide health benefits to every employee. There is only one company operating in Maryland with over 10,000 employees. Can you guess what that employer might be? Washington is going nuts trying to figure out who Bob Woodward's source was for Valerie Plame's name. Karl Rove says it wasn't it....it wasn't Dick Cheney. Condi Rice? Nope...and neither was Donald Rumsfeld. People apparently think it was National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley. Bob Woodward is now in the dog house with the Washington Post....they say he has to operate under the same oversight as the rest of the paper, even if he is rich and famous. Darn. An Al-Qaeda operative on an FBI list was recently nabbed...guess where....near the Mexican border. Why wouldn't they be down there....after all, it's the easiest way to walk right on in. Democratic senators from red states face a dilemma over how to vote on Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito....already TV ads are running in their states on the issue. Robert Novak explains their choice. With the senate trying to get two government buildings named after themselves, Mark Steyn is calling it the United States Senate's exit strategy from reality. He rightly calls an exit strategy from Iraq a defeatist plan. Is Iraq another Vietnam? In part II of his series on the issue, columnist Richard Miniter says absolutely not, and lists reasons why. Good ammunition for talking about the war with your liberal friends (and we all have a few, don't we?) With people worrying about where Katrina evacuees are going to he housed, Star Parker decides to take a look at the policies regarding government housing over the last 40 years. She calls it a total failure, and says it started with the Johnson administration. Today's look at leftists in academia from Professor Mike Adams takes us to Warren County Community College in Washington, New Jersey. A college professor there is boycotting a speech by an American soldier. And he can't spell, either...the college professor, that is. Check it out. We hear over and over again from Democrats and the media that "Bush lied." Michael Barone says not only did Bush not lie, but several investigations concluded that he did not lie. | ||
