HAVE YOU SEEN CRASH YET?

I don't go to movie theatres much any more, not since I took the plunge and put in a good home theatre.  Last night, on the advice of my daughter, I spilled four bucks to watch Crash.  This is one of the best movies I've seen in a long while.  If it shows up on your cable carrier's PPV menu, take the plunge.  You'll enjoy it.  Here's a link for more information and some reviews.  One of the reviews says that theme of the movie is racism.  The theme is actually bigotry, not racism, but I promise you you're going to enjoy it.

THE NOBODY'S PERFECT DEPARTMENT

In yesterday's Nuze I made an error when I quoted Bush's famous State of the Union Speech declaration that British intelligence had learned that Saddam was seeking processed uranium from Africa.  Instead of British intelligence I said French.  Mea culpa.

ON BEING AN AMERICAN:

"... if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiances here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag,... we have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Teddy Roosevelt -- 1907  (www.cacp.info #548)

WHOLE FOODS MUST CLOSE IN MASSACHUSETTS --- OR ELSE

How's this for life in a "free" America.  Evidently there is a law on the books in Massachusetts stating that certain businesses cannot open on specific holidays.  One of the specific holidays is Thanksgiving.  Last year certain Whole Foods stores opened on Thanksgiving, thus irritating their competitors.  This year the competitors managed to get to the politicians, and the hammer has been lowered.  If Whole Foods opens this Thursday, criminal charges will be filed.  Massachusetts, the birthplace of the American Revolution, and now a state where people can be charged with crimes for selling perfectly legal products on days that their competitors don't want them to.  Amazing.

X MARKS THE SPOT?

Vice President Dick Cheney has been speaking out against the critics of the war who have been pushing the 'Bush lied' nonsense for months now.  As such, he has become public enemy #1 with the left and the media.  So it comes as no surprise that CNN was caught doing one of the more bizarre things in recent memory.

Yesterday morning, just after 11:00AM Eastern Time, CNN was airing Dick Cheney's speech live from the American Enterprise Institute.  This is the speech where he said nice things about Congressman John Al-Murtha.  Anyway, during his remarks, a large, black X flashed directly over his face.  You had to be paying close attention, because each time it flashed it was for less than a second.  It was either Drudge or somebody that was watching who sent it to Drudge that caught it.  So what gives?

For their part, CNN had this to say: "Upon seeing this unfortunate but very brief graphic, CNN senior management immediately investigated. We concluded this was a technological malfunction, not an issue of operator error. A portion of the switcher experienced a momentary glitch. We obviously regret that it happened and are working on the equipment to ensure it is not repeated."  Hmm...very interesting.  That's awfully convenient....because the X is directly over Dick Cheney's face...as if positioned there by some behind-the-scenes Bush-hater.

But they'll get away with it.  The mainstream media will let them off the hook....and no further explanation will be required.  Apparently the hatred the media has for the Bush administration knows no bounds...even when it comes to airing their speeches.

Now ... does this remind you of anything?  Several years ago Good Morning America unveiled a new set.  Hanging from the wall was a painting on wood planks of an American Flag.  Surprisingly, there was a huge "X" through the flag.  Amazing.  Almost immediately the Internet and talk shows were buzzing with comments ... and the X suddenly disappeared from the flag.  Maybe whoever designed that flag is working for CNN now!

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

Speaking of speeches, 'Hardball' host Chris Matthews was speaking to students at the University of Toronto the other day.  A well-known leftist who used to work in the Carter administration, Matthews decided to start talking about the war on Islamic terrorism and the Bush administration's response to 9/11.  He repeated the Democratic talking point that Bush squandered the opportunity to unite the world (whatever that means.)  I seem to recall a large coalition of countries assisting us in Afghanistan and Iraq.  What Matthews is really saying is that because the French didn't go along with the Iraq war, Bush didn't unite the world.

Then he said this: "The period between 9/11 and Iraq was not a good time for America. There wasn't a robust discussion of what we were doing.  If we stop trying to figure out the other side, we've given up. The person on the other side is not evil -- they just have a different perspective."  That's right....Chris Matthews doesn't believe Osama Bin Laden and Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi are evil...they just have a different perspective. I guess Ted Bundy had a different perspective too ... and Jeffrey Dahmer.  And that Hitler character!  Talk about different perspectives!

It is exactly this line of thinking that has brought us to where we are today.  For two decades, the U.S. government believed Islamic terrorists weren't evil...they just had a different perspective.  So we ignored it.  As a result of that lax policy, 3,000 people died on September 11, 2001.  But this is what liberals believe...that everyone is basically good, and if that we only listen to what they have to say, we can understand their "different perspective."  This is why when it comes to national security, most Democrats are dangerous and must not be put into power.

It was easy to see Matthews was a Bush-hater just by watching his show...but terrorists not evil?  I wonder if he thought because he said it in Canada that nobody would pay any attention to it. Well ... it didn't work out that way.

PUBLIC SUPPORT DROPPING

According to the latest Gallup poll, the news is not good when it comes to public support of the war.  Only 35% support Bush's handling of it.  54% believe the war was a mistake....a number that hasn't changed in over a year.  Support for Operation Iraqi freedom has dropped faster than did public support for the Vietnam and Korean wars.  So what does this all mean?

Absolutely nothing, for two reasons.  The first is that George W. Bush was re-elected last year by a comfortable margin.  The anti-war candidate was rejected.  The Poodle was saying everything Democrats are saying now.....and was defeated. So the public has spoken.  Second, the stakes are so high in the War on Terror that we must not lose in the battleground of Iraq at any cost.  We saw what happened during the Clinton administration when a president conducts foreign policy according to what the polls say.

Now ...let's repeat this basic fact of American history.  The Revolutionary War began in 1776 and lasted until 1983.  There was not one period of time during those seven years ... not one month .... not one week ... where the majority of those living in the Colonies were in favor of that war.  Would today's Democrats have urged giving up on that quest also?

The left can jump up and down all it wants....moderate liberal "Republicans" can call for a timeline all they want....none of it matters.  All that  matters is we finish the job in Iraq, whatever it takes.  It's called sacrifice.  It is the public's inability to see that Iraq would turn into a large terrorist state that is fueling the low poll numbers.

And for that, we have the government schools to thank. Sure makes it easier for the media and politicians!

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Here is a transcript of Dick Cheney's remarks
at the American Enterprise Institute yesterday, minus the black X over his face, of course.

A New Jersey college is trying to figure out what to do with a professor
who sent an e-mail to a student saying American soldiers should turn on their superiors  and kill them.  Actually, they should leave him right where he is...a perfect spokesman for the left!

In a blatant act of Hispandering, The Hildabeast is proposing giving Puerto Ricans income tax refunds.  The only problem?  Puerto Ricans pay no federal income tax.  Way to go buying those votes, Hillary.

Now that he's back in this country, Bill Clinton is waffling on the war in Iraq.  He says it could still work.  Nice vote of confidence there.

With the Democrats and the media calling for a troop pullout in Iraq, John McCain is calling for more troops to be sent.  Mort Kondracke says the media is ignoring McCain.

It's been a bad week for Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi in Iraq......and also for the Democrats.  Jack Kelly tells us their bluff got called in the House, and they're not happy about it.

Have you heard about the Wal-Mart movie?  Amy Menefee of the Free Market Project has a review....and it doesn't look like this film holds up under a little scrutiny.

The drive to ban all torture in Congress exposes their all-or-nothing reasoning, says Thomas Sowell.  He reminds us that these terrorists may soon have nuclear weapons.  Still want to ban torture?  Read on.

David Limbaugh's latest column tells us what Democrats would really be saying if you could inject them with truth serum and put them in front of a microphone.  It's more than just "Bush lied, people died."

Cal Thomas takes a very interesting look at the comparison of the war in Iraq with the war in Vietnam.  He recalls an interview with a North Vietnamese General many years later...who admitted they couldn't beat the Americans without the media.  Don't miss this one.

Did Mohammed Atta, one of the 9/11 hijackers, ever meet with an official from the Iraqi embassy in the Czech Republic?  Here's a rather interesting article detailing the allegation.  Warning:  May cause discomfort to Democrats and others suffering from truth allergies.

Big Pussy gets community service and anger management classes for assaulting his girlfriend. Now who else is going to link you to this story?

Have fun with this one.  The Global Language Monitor has compiled the Top Politically inCorrect Words and Phrases for 2005

A bad week for Zarqawi?   Break out the world's smallest violin.

OK ... so you have to subscribe to The Weekly Standard to read this article.  Stephen Hayes details the Democrats effort to push the "Bush Lied" theory.  The Democrats, and especially Carl Levin, get blown right out of the water on this one.  So --- I suppose we won't find many Democrats and Bush-haters clicking on the "subscribe" button.
