| Monday -- October 10, 2005 Two --- well, actually three book signings of The FairTax Book in Colorado over the weekend. On Friday night we were at the Barnes & Noble in Denver. Now my show isn't carried in Denver, so I was a bit concerned about the crowd, but a few hundred people showed up. So far, so good. Saturday morning I flew across the Rockies to Grand Junction. Now there is a 50,000 watt blowtorch in Grand Junction, KNZZ, that carries the show .. so no worries there. In fact, we had to schedule two book signings - one for the afternoon and one for the evening - because the hotel ballroom we were using could not accommodate all of the people who wanted to attend. I can't say enough about the people of Grand Junction and KNZZ. They've asked me not to let you in on their secret though ... so we'll just move on. I'll be making three stops. Tuesday night in Indianapolis, Wednesday evening in Lexington, Ky., and Thursday evening in Knoxville, Tennessee. You can find information on upcoming signings on the Neal's Appearances page, always linked from the home page of boortz.com. Then next week we'll be visiting Oklahoma City and Tulsa ... details coming. Politicians, current and former, are out there promoting the fair tax also. Here's an article from the Joplin (Mo.) Globe about the former lieutenant governor of Missouri spreading the FairTax word. The crowd may have been small ... but here's a former state official pushing the cause, and it's happening across the country. Every morning I get email notifications of columns and stories appearing in newspapers across the country about the fair tax. Am I saying that this is a movement that has the support of the majority of the American people? Not at all! The majority of Americans can't even name their two U.S. Senators. I am saying that there is a growing dedicated segment in American that wants this FairTax idea to get a fair and complete hearing in Washington. These people reject the president's tax reform commission idea of incremental reform. They understand how our current tax system is damaging our economy and harassing American workers. A dedicated minority can bring this to pass. Remember, from the beginning to the end of the Revolutionary War -- 1776 to 1783 -- there was never a majority of Colonists who supported the idea of independence from Great Britain. We're talking another revolution here. Passage of The FairTax Bill, HR-25, would constitute the biggest transfer of power from the government to the people since our Constitution was ratified. You can do your part. The FairTax Book has slipped to No. 11 on the New York Times Bestseller's list. It doesn't take all that many people ordering from Amazon.com or visiting your local book store to push it back up ... and this positioning on the NYT list is a certain indication to the political class that the FairTax has legs. Remember ... every single penny of royalties from The FairTax Book for this week will go to hurricane relief.
Hey, I think this might be taking energy conservation a bit too far. More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS
Unbelievably, more and more people are taking Louis Farrakhan's crackpot theories about Hurricane Katrina seriously. The whole thing was racism, you see. Oh...and poverty and inequality and all the other leftist buzzwords. According to a survey by the Washington Times, half of the Republican Senators doubt Harriet Miers. That still leaves at least 78 senators to send her to get fitted for a black robe. Columbus Day is coming....and you know what that means! Another round of profiles detailing Christopher Columbus' evil ways. Tom Purcell explores his background. The left, including the media and Democrats, are still trying to figure out how to take down Bush. As for the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court, Mark Steyn isn't as concerned. He says she'll get the job done. He's not exactly thrilled with George Bush's nomination of Harriet Miers...but columnist Jack Kelley says the conservatives complaining about Miers are just whining. Is Tom DeLay guilty? Absolutely, according to Rich Lowry. However, he says DeLay is only guilty of practicing politics, which means you can toss every member of Congress in jail. A report in a New Orleans newspaper rebuts quite a few of the outrageous stories that came out during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. John Leo takes a look at some of the more memorable claims. Is President George W. Bush done? The war in Iraq, the botched response to Hurricane Katrina, possible indictments of officials in his administration and the nomination of Harriet Miers have the president on the ropes. But according to Michael Barone, he's down, but not out. There seems to be some success in the House of Representatives in offsetting the massive federal spending for Hurricane Katrina aid. Robert Novak reports the Speaker has switched sides on the issue. Pigs are vanishing all over England. Place the blame on political correctness. | ||
