WELL ... IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG

Yesterday on the show I predicted that by the end of the week someone was going to be calling for the victims of Hurricane Katrina to be paid massive amounts of money, just as were the families of the victims of 9/11.  Well ... it didn't take long.  And just who was it that stepped forward to demand the victims compensation fund?  None other than the NAACP.  Yup, NAACP president Bruce Gordon is saying that a compensation fund for the Katrina victims should be the first order of congress.  By the way, the NAACP didn't call for a victim's compensation fund after any of the four hurricanes that devastated Florida year.  Draw your own conclusions.

YOU DO KNOW THAT IT'S ALL BUSH'S FAULT, DON'T YOU?

I've told you that if you really want to peer into the minds of those who call themselves Democrats, all you have to do is take a look at their Internet chat room, democraticunderground.com.  Here's a post from some Democrat who calls herself "barbaraann."  She says "Saddam had rape rooms, Bush has rape stadiums."  Here are some of the other goodies you find from our Democrat brothers and sisters who have posted to Democratic Underground:

  • "Don't forget bush* has mass graves now also, just like Saddam."  (RetroLounge)
  • "Saddam gassed his own people, Bush let his drown.  Who has the higher body count?  Shrub by far."  (MidnightWind)
  • "OMG ... how true it is!!!! I hate him.  I hate this bastard."  (cynatnite)

MEANWHILE -- THE AMERICAN PEOPLE BELIEVE DIFFERENTLY

We have the results of a CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll this morning.  People were asked who they blamed for the disaster in New Orleans.  I'm sure that the angry left will be disappointed with the results:

So ... who's to blame?

Local officials, 25%
Federal officials 18%
Bush 13%
No one 38%

Meanwhile ... people are still stepping forward to help. Across the country Americans are still volunteering their money and their time to help the victims of Katrina.  Yesterday I told you of one man who wrote that he was driving down an expressway and saw a car broken down on the side.  There was a woman holding a small child standing outside the car.  He pulled over to help, but when he saw the "W" sticker on the woman's car he drove off.  He just couldn't bring himself to help anyone who supported George Bush.  People like this, thank God, are in a tiny minority in America.  Perhaps you will find some way to help today.  There's a link at the top of Nealz Nuze to help you.

".... AND I'M NEVER GOING TO LISTEN TO YOU AGAIN"

If there is any one statement that a talk radio listener can make that better illustrates their childlike immaturity, the virtual equivalent of "I'm going to take my ball and go home," it's "I'm never going to listen to you again."

And just what was the one comment I made yesterday that infuriated the largest number of people?  Well, judging from the email, it was this one:  "What we saw in New Orleans was poor people demonstrating the very behavior that made them poor in the first place."  Yes, we're stepping forward to help. Yes, these people deserve our compassion and our empathy.  But this doesn't mean that we must ignore the behavior that put them in this position in the first place.  Hurricane Katrina has shown all of us the truth in the statement that poverty is a behavioral disorder.

DID THE CITY KNOW?

Someone has stepped forward with a story that there was a crack in the 17th Street Canal seawall before the arrival of Hurricane Katrina, and that the city was notified of the crack.  Is it possible that New Orleans officials ignored a warning that could have saved their city from this disaster?  Really, it doesn't matter, since it was all George Bush's fault.

EVACUATION PLAN

I have now reviewed a copy of the State of Louisiana Emergency Operations Plan.  This 45-page document says that "The Southeast Louisiana Hurricane Evacuation and Sheltering Plan is intended to provide a framework within which the parishes can coordinate their actions with State government in order to deal with a catastrophic hurricane."

Here are some of the items I found in this operations plan:

The evacuation plan states that "Local transportation resources should be marshaled and public transportation plans implemented as needed. Announce the location of staging areas for people who need transportation. Public transportation will concentrate on moving people from the staging areas to safety in host parishes with priority given to people with special needs."  It also says that the Governor will "Mobilize State transportation resources to aid in the evacuation of people who have mobility and/or health problems. Deploy to support risk area parishes."

It certainly looks like it was the responsibility of the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans to make sure that people, and that includes poor people, were evacuated.  It didn't happen.  So ... it's Bush's fault?

The obvious thing to say about this one is "hey ya'll, watch this!" Oh, and today, some bonus redneck material -- the redneck driver's test. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Here's a review of The FairTax Book.  The review is entitled "Why Boortz and Linder must be purged."  The reviewer says "every copy of The FairTax Book must be seized and burned."  No --- read it.  It's really very good!

John Stossel gets it.  Here's his "In praise of price gouging" column.

Who failed the people of New Orleans?  Bob Williams says the finger points to Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin.

Here's a link to a series of articles from the New Orleans Times-Picayune from June of 2002.  Several articles here.  Read them all.  An eerie prediction of things to come ... a prediction that was ignored.

Why doesn't the Christian community speak out against this horrid man?  The "Reverend" Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church has decided that his church is going to picket the funeral of Chief Justice William Rehnquist.  This Baptist Church is handing out fliers saying "We rejoice that Rehnquist is dead and in hell."

Oops.  It seems that FEMA sent some evacuees to the wrong Charleston.  One hundred and eighty evacuees were flown to Charleston, West Virginia instead of Charleston, South Carolina.  That's only a 400 mile miss.

Wesley Pruden says that the left isn't getting that much traction with it's "Blame Bush" campaign.

Kathleen Parker says that it is events like Katrina that show Americans what we're really made of.

In times of disaster, what should the federal government do when it is known, or suspected, that the local and state governments are dysfunctional?

Bill Murchison writes that it was George Bush's fault.  Naturally!  Everything is George Bush's fault!
