Congressman Linder tells me that the Republican leadership is more than impressed with the success of The FairTax Book. They have been receiving a steady stream of phone calls, emails, faxes ... and books from constituents demanding action on the FairTax bill. These officials have indicated that they had no idea that there was such a hunger for comprehensive tax reform in this country, and that they have never seen an outpouring of support for any tax reform plan such as the one they've experienced for the FairTax. Right now the expectation is that the FairTax could go before the House for a vote next Spring. If it passes, it's off to the Senate. If it fails, the leadership wants to make it the campaign issue for the 2006 mid-term elections. Now I want to explain why I made the decision to donate 100% of my royalties from The FairTax Book to charity.* I'll be giving up six figures here ... but I didn't write the book with Congressman John Linder to make money. I co-authored the book because this is a tax reform plan that I've studied for over 20 years, and one that I believe in completely. There is not one doubt in my mind that the implementation of the FairTax would bring about a period of economic growth not seen in this country in generations. The bottom line is that it is the surprising success of The FairTax Book that has the attention of officials in Washington. As long as The FairTax Book remains up there near the top of the bestseller's lists Washington officials will know that the idea is alive and growing with the American public. So ... I can feel entirely comfortable urging you to go to the Internet or to your local book seller to buy a copy knowing that I'm not using the airtime to line my own pockets, but rather to bring about a change in our tax laws that would benefit every American, except, perhaps, for the K Street tax lobbyists inside the Beltway. Passage of the FairTax would constitute the greatest transfer of power from government to the people since the Revolutionary War. That's why so many politicians are going to have to be drug kicking and screaming to the table. Elected officials don't like to surrender power. The only thing they want to give up less than their power, is their office. If these politicians know that you want the FairTax to get a fair hearing and a vote, than a fair hearing and a vote it shall be. If you haven't bought a copy .. do it now. If you already have your copy, buy another and send to a friend or your Congressman or Senator. Letters to Speaker Hastert and Tom DeLay wouldn't hurt either. We really do have a chance to make a real change for the better in this country .. but we can't do it sitting on our tails and waiting for the other guy to act. *I'm already working on the next book, "Somebody's Gotta Say it!" Now this book I'm writing to make money. Count on it.
Yesterday I told you the story of the Weber School in the northern Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs. Just to refresh your memory, here is the last item in yesterday's Nuze:
Well ... much has changed since we discussed this issue on the air yesterday. We received quite the stack of email from outraged people not only from Atlanta, but from around the country. They wanted phone numbers and email address so they could share their temperate (I'm sure) Well .. a lot has changed in the last 24 hours. Yesterday the Fulton School Superintendent James Wilson told Steve Berman, the board president for Weber School, that the county will not pursue the Weber property. Superintendent James Wilson says that he "regrets the misunderstanding." The excuse seems to be that Fulton school officials thought that they were dealing with a willing seller here, and that they were in negotiations. Negotiations? This is how they negotiate? "You sell us the property for this amount or we'll take it by force." That's "negotiating?" At any rate ... it's over. The Weber parents who have worked so hard on fund-raising and with all the planning that went into their groundbreaking on Sunday can breath easy ... their long sought school will become a reality. This morning CNN was running a poll on the question of whether or not there should be price caps on gasoline during times of disaster or emergencies. Viewers were emailing their responses. It was so bad, my friends, that the Fox News morning coffee klatch was a better alternative. Well .. here we go with yet another demonstration of the pathetic ignorance that permeates the American public. Thank you so much, government schools! There is absolutely no doubt that price caps on gasoline would accomplish only two things: (1) The caps would convince the dumb masses that politicians are really doing something in their best interests; and, (2) widespread shortages of gasoline would occur. We'll say it again: Never in the history of commerce and mankind has there ever been a more efficient way of allocating resources and insuring a supply of needed commodities than the free market system. When government starts putting caps on prices the free market system ceases to operate. With government price (or profit) caps you move from free enterprise to the government-managed economies that are best illustrated by life in the old Soviet Union. I'll never forget walking up to the restrooms in Soviet restaurants (such as they were) and having some old lady at the door hand me three squares of one-ply butt-wipe. There's what a managed economy will do for you .... and setting price and profit caps does constitute a managed economy.
This reminds me of Jesse Jackson ... another world class race warlord. In 1993 there was severe flooding in South Georgia. When I say severe ... I'm understating the situation. Several towns and cities were virtually under water. So ... here comes Jesse Jackson to tell the world that white officials in Georgia opened the flood gates on a dam so that they could divert flood waters through black neighborhoods of the city of Albany. While Jesse was on television saying that flood waters were being diverted through the dam to black neighborhoods, we were watching video images on the tube of water flowing over the top of the dam. Most people would understand that when the water is flowing over the top of the dam, it matters little which gates are open or closed, and officials have lost all control of where that water goes. Jesse Jackson apparently didn't understand these basics of limnology. Calypso Louie and The Sloganmaster. Brothers.
THE FAIRTAX BOOK BOOKPLATE If you ordered your book online or you couldn't make it to a book signing near you, Congressman Linder and Neal will send you an adhesive-backed autographed book plate to place inside your copy of The FairTax Book. Just send a self-addressed and stamped letter-sized envelope to:
REDNECK SCRAP BOOK What an idea! Those senior scooters can be expensive. Why not have them do double-duty. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.
READING ASSIGNMENTS (Just a few) We'll make this the lead assignment today ... because it's vitally important. The bird flu is on the way. It could kill millions. Now what this story doesn't say, but we will soon learn from Howard Dean, John Kerry and the American media, is that this is all George Bush's fault. Now here's a way to really make Europeans love the United States. They donate food for the Katrina victims, we say that it is unfit for human consumption ... and burn it. Georgia loses $21 million dollars in highway funds because it refuses to pass a law requiring pickup drivers to wear seatbelts. Both sides are acting stupidly on this one. A Random Thoughts column from Thomas Sowell. These are always worth reading. David Limbaugh with an excellent piece on New Orleans and Race. Money magazine reporter Pat Regnier asks just how fair is the FairTax? | ||
