NOW HERE'S A SHOCKER FOR THIS MORNING

Tom DeLay is not going to run for reelection.  The official announcement will be made today.  This is a huge victory for Democrat headhunters.  DeLay was the second most powerful Republican in Congress ... and they brought him down; with no small amount of help from him, by the way.  The scalps are piling up.  Trent Lott, now Tom DeLay. 

Did DeLay just throw himself on a grenade for the Republicans?  Some will say that he's pulling out because he wants a Republican candidate in the race unsullied by the Democrat attack machine.  I wonder, though, if he's not just tired of it all.  He's 59 now, and making less than $150,000 a year.  Every move is watched.  He can't so much as clip his nails at a dinner table without drawing attention.  He will have made more money from speaking engagements by next March than he has made in the last two years in the House of  Representatives.  Reason enough to bail right there.

I note in the Time Magazine article that DeLay wants to spend more time trying to strengthen the ties between government and religion.  Not good.  There are too many people out there who want to gain control of the power of government so that they can use this power to force religious viewpoints on the people.  This is a tie that does not need to be strengthened.  The two institutions should pretty much leave each other alone.

By the way ... Tom DeLay was a huge supporter of the FairTax.  In that regard, he'll be missed.

Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, the Democrats must be celebrating.  This could be a preview of things to come for the Republicans.  With Bush's entire second term being a disaster, spending at record levels and government inaction on illegal immigration, the GOP's track record isn't too good.  You add on top of that higher gas prices and the war in Iraq...and they won't do too well with independent voters either.  This fall's mid-term elections could be rough sledding. The socialists only need 15 seats to take control of the House in November.  Then they can begin their work on destroying talk radio and impeaching George Bush!  Too bad the Republicans don't really have an imaginative agenda that the people will be eager to support this November. 

The only thing we can hope for is the Democrats' usual incompetence.  As usual, the left is not unified...and has a muddled message.  Rather than get a group of candidates together and say exactly what they're going to do, you have Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid running the show. 

When the only political break you can catch is when you're opponent is incompetent, that's pretty sad.
 

MORE EMAILS?  NOW THAT YOU ASK, YES!

In fact we have received some more emails about the Cynthia McKinney kerfuffle (there you go, James,)  I'll share just a few of the better ones with you.  Again ... no attempt at spelling corrections.

PELOSI ... THE PICTURE OF CONSISTENCY

Let's take the way-back machine for a trip back a few weeks to the days after Vice President Dick Cheney's hunting accident.  There was Nancy Pelosi hammering for an investigation.  The left, led by Pelosi, wouldn't let up.  Dick Cheney was demonized for more than a week until it died of overuse.  Contrast that with the Cynthia McKinney situation.  There, again, was Nancy Pelosi.  This time, however, she wasn't calling for an investigation.  This time she was saying that the whole story was being overblown and we should just move on.  Dick Cheney hits another hunter with birdshot by accident and, for Pelosi, it's a big deal for weeks.  Cynthia McKinney hits a copy -- intentionally hits a cop -- and we should just forget it and move on.  Are you folks beginning to see the big picture here?

NOW --- LET A REPUBLICAN DO THIS

More Cynthia McKinney news.  Our sister television station, WSB-TV, has uncovered some documents which show that Cynthia McKinney spent about $1,000 of the taxpayer's money to fly Isaac Hayes to Georgia.  Why?  To help her dedicate her new office in Atlanta.  Channel 2 reports that the funds came from a fund that members of Congress use for office supplies.  This expenditure was a violation of congressional rules.  So ... what do we have here?  My guess is that the reporter at WSB-TV who uncovered this illegal spending is a racist. Think about it.  It fits the definition.  A television from the deep South owned and operated, for the most part, by white people has broadcast a negative story about a black person.  A prima facie case of virulent, vicious racism.  Now that McKinney has been caught with this illegal expenditure of taxpayer's money her office says that the money will be reimbursed.  With what?  More taxpayer's money? 

THERE IS NO VIDEO OF THE ALTERCATION

This morning's Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that the security cameras at the Longworth House Office Building did not capture the actual confrontation between McKinney and the Capitol Hill Police Officer.  Not good for the police officer.  Now McKinney will be able to continue with her campaign of demonization by calling the police officer a racist.  You can also look for her supporters to ratchet up the rhetoric about the "racist" cop's "inappropriate" touching of McKinney.  Before they're through they're going to have this police officer sexually assaulting McKinney. 

In the meantime, The U.S. Capitol Police have recommended that McKinney be charged and arrested.  It's now up to the U.S. Attorney's office to decide what happens.  Will they step up to the plate and send a message that you can't do what she did and get away with it?

Know this:   If Joe Blow Nobody struck a police officer, he'd be sitting in jail right now.  But because this is a black congresswoman crying racism, the prosecutor is shuddering in fear...fear of being called a racist.  Fear of the protests.  Fear of race hustlers that Cynthia McKinney calls her "supporters."  What kind of message will we send here if she gets off with a slap on the wrist?

Security has tightened since 9/11, particularly in our nation's Capitol.  But to Cynthia McKinney, that doesn't apply to her.  She should still be able to come and go as she pleases...wearing no identification and dramatically altering her appearance at will.  How well do you think it would fly if you walked into your local downtown federal building and breezed around the metal detector?  If you weren't shot on site, I would say you might have a bit of legal trouble.

OK .. let's pick nits.  There's been a lot of that lately.  It's going to happen again at 01:02:03 in the afternoon on Wednesday.  It's also happened before, though in a different contest.  Try 4:56 a.m. on January 2, 2003. 

BANNING FLAG WAVING

Here is just more proof today that political correctness is invading every facet of our society, and government schools are leading the pack.  Today's outrage comes to us from Longmont, Colorado...and Skyline High School.  The perp is Principal Tom Stumpf>

The issue is waving the American flag.  Recently, tens of thousands of illegal aliens have decided to protest what they see as a crackdown on illegal immigration in Congress.  Many of the protesters waved the flags of the countries from which they fled....Mexico, Guatemala, and so on.  So some students at Skyline High School decided to do a little flag-waving of their own.  But this time, they waved the American flag.

Bad move.  Because forgot to account for the fact that Tom Stumpf wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.  He, like most other government school administrators, lives in constant fear of offending someone.  So since there were a few incidents where the American flag was waved in the face of Mexican students, the answer for Stumpf was simple: ban the American flag.

Said the principal:  "When it involves the American flag and its abuse in vilifying other people, we simply will not tolerate it.  They were using the symbol derisively as misguided patriotism.''  Remember: to the bureaucratic leftist, offending someone is a worse offense than killing them.  Yet people continue to send their bundles of joy to government re-education centers so their minds can be filled with drivel by people like Tom Stumpf.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Here's a New York Times feature story on Wafa Sultan, the Syrian-American psychiatrist who riled them up on Al-Jazeera a few weeks ago.  Now she's an International sensation. 

There could be tough times ahead for Hillary Clinton.  It seems the Hollywood crowd is a little miffed at The Hildabeast for her various positions (political ones, that is.)  And believe it or not, some people think she's too conservative!  Only in Hollywood.

If you thought the CBS Evening News was already slanted, then it looks like you're going to have to keep propping up your TV with a sawhorse for years to come.  It appears Perky Katie Couric is on the verge of signing on to anchor the news for CBS.

Here's a dirty little secret of the Republican Party:  since the GOP has been in control of the House, the Senate and the White House, spending is rising faster than any time since the New Deal.  Hard to believe, but it's true.

More government school nonsense, this time courtesy of Warren Township, Indiana.  A kid brings a pocketknife to school...realizes he has it, then turns it in to the principal.  His reward for his honesty?  He is being recommended for expulsion.  Zero tolerance...zero common sense.

Bill Cosby is once again speaking the truth....and people don't want to hear it.  He told residents of New Orleans over the weekend that even before Katrina, their community had problems.  As you might expect, this is causing a little controversy.

Al-Qaeda scumbag Zacarias Moussaoui has cleared the first hurdle toward being sent to his desert sand nap.  A jury has ruled he is eligible for the death penalty.  Now they just need to decide to actually execute him.

Debra Saunders is calling out members of Congress that want both a guest worker program and to discourage further illegal immigration.  Will they pass a law requiring the number to be reduced?  If the guest worker program is supposed to mean less illegals, how are they going to do it?

Often, what gets lost in political debate is the facts.  Thomas Sowell cites, as an example, the United Nations.  People always talk about that organization while ignoring the facts....which is a track record of ineffectiveness and incompetence.

Senator Russ Feingold was on Fox News Sunday yesterday and once again called for the censure of President George W. Bush.  David Limbaugh says it's all about Feingold's political ambition that even his fellow Democrats recognize.

Pat Buchanan has an interesting line about the Iraq war and immigration.  As we're fighting in the Middle East to win the war in Iraq, foreigners are invading our country and occupying Arizona.  Good point.
