THE CEASE FIRE

Oh yeah.  This is going to work.  After a month of fighting which saw a relentless assault on Hezbollah targets -- and just as Israel was preparing to launch a massive ground offensive, they've bowed to international pressure.  That's right...Israel has agreed to cease-fire, brokered by the United Nations.  It went into effect at 1:00 a.m. Eastern time today. Lebanon is going to send troops to control the southern part of the country now run by Hezbollah, the United Nations is actually going to send capable troops to patrol the area with the Lebanese troops, and Hezbollah is going to be disarmed.

Yeah .. that's right.  The cease fire agreement calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah.  The Lebanese cabinet knows that isn't going to happen .. that's why a meeting to discuss how to go about this task has been, as they say, "indefinitely postponed."

If Israel's goal was to eliminate Hezbollah, then they have stopped short of this goal.  And why did they do that?  Because of pressure....international pressure.  Pressure applied by the United States, pressure applied by the United Nations and the Europeans.  All of this happened just like the Islamic terrorists in Hezbollah, Iran and Syria wanted it to.  The very fact that the head of Hezbollah agreed with the ceasefire tells you how bad it is.

How long do you think it will be now before Israel agrees to a prisoner swap?  Say ... 1000 Hezbollah for two Israeli soldiers?  The goat's milk toasts will be flying big-time in Hezbollah-land.

There is not one ounce of doubt in my mind that Hezbollah  will use this cease fire to re-strengthen and re-arm.  Any belief that Hezbollah will actually disarm is absurd.  The goal will remain the same; to destroy Israel and to continue to build the base in the Middle East for an Islamic government that will rule the world.

Yeah ---I know.  The "rule the world" dream might sound ridiculous to us sitting here at our computer screens in the U.S., but these Islamic radicals see it as a destiny.  Bit by bit they're making headway.  When they do end up getting pounded, as arguably they are in Lebanon, they will agree to a cease fire, but only as a temporary maneuver to permit them to regain their strength and build for the next battles.

When government schools in this country meet demands that Muslim holidays be included on the school calendar, we see it as a seemingly innocent accommodation.  Islamic fascists see it as a meaningful victory.

When the European Union seriously considers a regulation making it illegal to make a disparaging remark about any religion --- including, of course, the wonderful and peaceful religion of Islam -- another victory.

Sure --- they're all small and, you might think, insignificant.  You might also think that the world bringing immense pressure on Israel to stop its bombardment of Hezbollah is not really such a big deal.  Well, it's hard to say how long you're going to have to wait --- perhaps days or weeks, perhaps months or years -- before Hezbollah strikes again to prove your naivety.

MORE ON THE UK ATTACK PLOTTERS

More is becoming known about the Islamic terrorists that were planning on blowing up several jetliners headed to the United States from Great Britain last week.  It turns out many of those involved were Muslim students recruited at British universities.  This exposes a well-known weak link in European immigration policy.

You see, Britain, France and the like are places where radical Islamic clerics from terrorist regimes can go set up shop and not be touched.  The Euro-weenies, under the guise of political correctness, won't do anything about the hate that these jihadists preach.  They take impressionable young Muslims and turn them into terrorists.  The same thing is going on at British universities.  One of the plotters from last week attended a school where terrorist literature was found.

And it gets worse.  Also among those arrested for the plot are mothers who were willing to blow up themselves and their babies in the terrorist attack.  The babies would be used as cover for the attacks, since a mother with a baby doesn't look suspicious or threatening.  This just goes to show you the psychos that we're dealing with here when it comes to Islamic terrorists.  They will kill their own children to take out an infidel or two.

Britain was about to pay dearly for their lax immigration policy that allows so many of these hate-filled Islamic killers into their country.  Perhaps now they'll pay a bit more attention to their politically correct ways, before one of these terrorist attacks actually succeeds. But then again .... probably not.

Remember .. any effort to fight Islamic fascists must take a back seat to the requirements of political correctness.

TED KENNEDY VS. DICK CHENEY

Ted Kennedy has written an op-ed (see Reading Assignments below) in which he castigates Vice President Dick Cheney for some comments he made regarding the victory of Senate candidate and anti-war leftist Ned Lamont in the Connecticut Democratic primary.  Cheney said that Lamont's victory might encourage the Al-Qaeda types who want to break the will of the American people.  Kennedy somehow sees a problem with this.  What problem?  Cheney was exactly right!  This is exactly the way Osama would have written the script for the Connecticut elections.

Lamont wants to cut and run in Iraq. That is precisely what Al Qaeda wants.  Similar goals.  But Ted Kennedy has his panties in a knot, calling Cheney's comments ugly and frightening and an attack on democracy.

Say what?

Senator Kennedy then puts on his tinfoil hat and regurgitates his Michael Moore talking points obediently, saying: "The American people are ready to change an administration that let Osama Bin Laden escape."  Yeah, right.  It's too bad the people of Massachusetts haven't yet screwed up the courage to retire Ted Kennedy.  He has a lot of nerve talking about someone "letting" things happen.  What say you, Mary Jo?

But there is still hope.  The people of Connecticut, who will have the last word, may slowly be wising up.  The latest poll shows that Joe Lieberman, now running as an independent, is leading Ned Lamont by 5 points.  The Republican candidate, who has no chance of winning, is pulling in just 6% of the vote.  For all the headlines and predictions, the Democrats may wind up losing a seat in Connecticut.  Wouldn't that be something?

PACKING OFF THE KIDS

Here we go again.  Across the country on this day millions of parents who should know better will commit an act of profound child abuse as they take the most precious things in their lives -- their children -- and send them to the government to be educated.

Each and every one of these parents knows that the government does few things well, and most things very poorly.  These parents know, or they should know, that education in this country is more expensive and produces less results than in virtually any other government in the Western world.

Remember ... if you listen to Democrats and teacher's unions, there is not one single problem with these hideous government schools that cannot be solved by simply spending more money. Competition won't help.  Accountability won't help.  Discipline won't help.  Only spending more money helps.  Every single idea to improve the quality of government education is a non-starter ... except for spending more money.

So .. what is your child's first day of school going to be like?  In September of 2002 I wrote a column for Townhall.com covering day one in your local government school.  I'm posting it below.  Give it a read ... it just may tell the story of what your child is going through today.

DAY ONE --- HAND OVER YOUR STUFF

First of all, let's get this out of the way in the first paragraph.  They are NOT "public schools."  They are government schools.  They are owned and operated by government.  Every employee, from the Superintendent to the dishwasher in the cafeteria, is a government employee.  So, let's call them what they are.  Government schools.

Being government employees, you would expect those who work in government schools to have the same behavioral characteristics as other government employees.  You would be right.  They react to the threat of privatization with the ferocity of a cornered bobcat and to the threat of accountability with the evasiveness of cockroaches.

The truth, though, is that these are not so much schools as they are indoctrination centers.  If your child is attending a Catholic school you should expect that your child would be taught that the Catholics pretty well have this religion thing down cold.  Ditto for a Jewish school, or one operated by a Christian fundamentalist church.  Question:  Will a government school to be any different?  Why would you expect a government employee in a government institution to tell your children that government is not necessarily the answer to every problem or critter that goes bump in the night?

The new school year has been underway for quite a few weeks now.  Maybe it's time to give you a hint of what your child has been through.

Do you remember those weeks before school started for your first grader?  There you were, you and your proud new student walking the aisles of the local Costco with your list of school supplies in hand.  You check off the pencils, a ruler, a compass, paste, construction paper, a pencil holder, notebooks and erasers.  At home your first grader takes the supplies into his room and spreads everything out on the bed.  Arrange them this way - then that way. Pencils next to the erasers, glue and construction paper lined up over here, compass and ruler lined up over there.  These are his supplies.  His!  Do you hear?  And tomorrow he is going to take them to school.  He couldn't be more proud.

Finally, the first day of school arrives. The night before all of the school supplies are packed, repacked, unpacked and repacked again.  Then, that morning, just one more unpacking and repacking to make sure everything's still there and undamaged.  OK!  It's off we go to school!  Apprehension mixed with pride.  Your young man or woman is taking another grand step toward adulthood!  What could go wrong?

Plenty.  Remember, it's a government operation.

The students are seated, the bill rings. As fast as you can say the Pledge of Allegiance without the "under God" part, the indoctrination begins.  The government teacher steps in front of her virtual hostages and promptly delivers the first raw lesson in the power of government.  The students are instructed to bring all of their precious school supplies - their property -- to the front of the classroom and put them into a huge box.  They are told that the supplies belong to all of the class now, and the teacher will assume the responsibility of distributing the supplies as they are needed.

"Whoaa!  Hold on a minute here!  These are MY supplies.  My daddy bought them for me.  You can't have them!  They're mine!"

Nope.  Sorry!  They were yours.  Now all those supplies belong to - guess who?  The government!

There's a method to this madness.  Your child is being taught that there are some severe limits to the concept of private property.  It is perfectly OK, for instance, if the government just steps up and seizes your property if there are other people who might need some of your stuff.  After all, it's just not right for you to have something that other people don't have or can't share in, is it?

This whole "dump your supplies into this box" is not an innocent exercise.  Your child's teacher might not even be aware of it, but this lesson in government power is a time-honored method of introducing your child to the concept that there is something basically wrong with owning private property, but everything will be OK of you just let your superiors even things out a bit by taking some stuff from you and giving it to someone else.
How did Marx present this concept?  I think it was something like "From each according to his ability; to each according to his need."

Day number one -- Lesson number one.  Your rights to your property exist only so long as government will allow, and it's just not fair to have more stuff than someone else.

And this is just the first week!   More surprises in store!  Wait until you get that call from your child's teacher with vague, dark hints of a better world for your child if only he was on Ritalin.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

I have full confidence that the U.S. is safe as long as we have these anti-terrorist training camps. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Professor Mike Adams recently had a hate mailer challenge him to a fistfight ...at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington office where he works.  Adams wrote him back begging him not to come to his work....but his house instead.  That's where the fun began.  Don't miss this one.

Here's Ted Kennedy's whining missive about Vice President Dick Cheney, in its entirety.   He complains that Cheney's recent words were ugly and frightening and that the war in Iraq is recruiting new terrorists.

This is quite entertaining.  The president of Iran has started a weblog, available in French, English and whatever else.   But while Iran may have plenty of oil, they're sure short on bandwidth.  His website is somewhat slow.

New York Governor and probably presidential candidate says the GOP needs to get back to the basics.  As for what those basics are, that seems up for grabs.  National security and then what?  How about lower taxes and smaller government?

Things may be slow inside political campaigns right now, but columnist Jay Cost says if you look at the Federal Election Commission filings, you'll find out a whole lot more about what the political parties are up to.

Joe Lieberman may have lost the Democratic primary, but Robert Novak isn't sure why that's upsetting to so many Republicans.  In fact, he points out that Ned Lamont's voting record wouldn't really differ that much from Joe Lieberman's.

The anti-war left got their man into the Senate race in Connecticut, but Michael Barone points out a connection between Lamont's supporters and the War On Terror.  He says they simply don't believe there is a terrorist threat in this country.

Jack Kelly takes a look at just who is supporting this Ned Lamont character.  He says Lamont and all of his friends want to take the Democratic Party back to the ultra-leftist 1960's.

Richard Perle, one of the most hated men by the left, says the United States and the United Kingdom should not tolerate the jihad being preached by terrorist clerics in certain mosques.  This is how terrorists are recruited.

If you're looking for a pro-American, almost conservative film about 9/11, Megan Basham says you need to go see Oliver Stone's 'World Trade Center.'  Yes...that's right.  That Oliver Stone.  Basham says conservatives criticizing the movie are looking a gift horse in the mouth.
