DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO

Illinois Senator Barack Obama, a charismatic and gifted public speaker who just might be the Democrats' best hope of electing another president someday, has a bit of a problem.  You see, it would appear the good Senator doesn't practice what he preaches. I know .. what a surprise for a politician!   This has long been a problem for those on the Left, with Al Gore being one of the biggest offenders.

At any rate, Obama was giving a speech recently at one of his town hall meetings in which he said that global warming was caused by gas guzzling vehicles.  He said people should switch to hybrids, and that "It would save more energy, do more for the environment and create better world security than all the drilling we could do in Alaska."  Yeah ... and if we all walked think of how much oil we could save!  Anyway ... moving right along here .....

So after the speech, did the good Senator go outside, get into his Toyota Prius and zip off toward home?  Uh..no.  The media caught him getting into....you guessed it...an SUV.  A GMC Envoy, to be exact.  Obama even admitted that he liked SUVs.  It would seem we have a bit of hypocrisy on our hands.  When called out on it, Obama's staff went into spin overdrive...claiming that the Envoy was a Flexible Fuel Vehicle that can run on E85, or ethanol-based fuels.  In fact, they say the Senator fills the SUV up with ethanol whenever he can!

But there's a problem with that, too.  The GMC Envoy is not E85-ready.  Ooops.  Sounds like somebody dug the hole just a bit deeper on that one.  As the saying goes, don't throw stones if you live in a glass house.

CYNTHIA MCKINNEY'S SOUR GRAPES

I love it!  Maybe I won't miss Cynthia McKinney after all!  It looks like she just doesn't want to go away!

There are some politicians that are gracious in defeat.  They accept the will of the people and go home and do something else, or become a Washington lobbyist and make more money.  You win some, you lose some.  That's the nature of politics.  However, Cynthia McKinney is not one of those people.

After being decisively beaten in the Democratic primary last week and becoming ineligible to stand for re-election, Cynthia is fuming.  She wants to blame her defeat on somebody....on something.  Surely it wasn't voters' disgust and embarrassment with her behavior in Washington.  That thing where she punched a cop?  That was his fault.

So, in the warped, conspiratorial, leftist mind of Cynthia McKinney, other reasons must be found that shift the blame to someone else.  Responsibility cannot rest with her: it is somebody else's fault that she was beaten at the polls.  So now she has started speaking out about voting irregularities in her district.  In particular, she is blaming the voting machines.  Sound familiar?

McKinney says that black people should oppose electronic voting machines, because she says they can be used to steal elections.  She also claims that the system of holding a runoff, where the winner must, well...actually win...violates the Voting Rights Act.  Why sure, Cynthia....whatever you say.

So there you have it...electronic voting machines drove Cynthia McKinney from office.  Oh, and she blames the media too.

SO WHO WON THE WAR?

There is a controversy raging about who exactly won the war in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah.  Since no decisive military victory was reached, it is an interesting question.  Israeli troops retreated when a cease-fire was reached.  President Bush claims that Israel won the war, but that isn't supported by the facts.  For instance:

  • Hezbollah was not destroyed.  In our War On Terror, we proclaim as our objective to kill or bring to justice terrorists.  But Hezbollah is still in place, perhaps even stronger than ever.  Strike One.

  • The threat was not neutralized.  Does anyone really think U.N. Peacekeepers in Southern Lebanon are going to keep Hezbollah from lobbing missile rockets over the border in Israel?  Nope.  They aren't even allowed to fire their weapons!

  • And the most embarrassing: the Israeli troops that were kidnapped have not been returned.  This was supposedly what touched off the whole battle in the first place.  Israel got nothing back.
The evidence points to the fact that not only did Israel lose, but they lost big.  Now they look weak in the eyes of the Islamic terrorist world.  Hezbollah drove them out of Lebanon.  But it didn't have to happen that way.  Israel could have fought on, ignoring world opinion and completing their mission.  But the Bush Administration reined them in.  And since Israel relies on billions of dollars of American foreign aid, they complied.

The only bright side to all this is maybe once the cease-fire is broken (and it will be,) Israel will fire up the fighter jets and go finish the job.

NEAL'S AVIATION CORNER!

Knowing my love for general aviation, my friend Bugs decided to alert me to this website he found.  It's just chock full of videos.  Have you ever seen two 747s racing around the airport?  Check out the "Airliner race."  Some of the videos are  fly-bys.  Some are accidents. Some are just great representations of piloting skill. Other's are just for fun.  Here's your link!  Knock yourselves out.

I'M SORRY, I JUST DON'T GET IT

People in a suburban Atlanta community have their thongs in a bunch over plans to locate a retail outlet nearby that would sell (Arrggghhhhh!!!!)  sex toys.  They're also concerned that this store will sell videos that show people (OhmiGod!) having actual sex!

I have it on good authority that there are also stores in this community that sell guns.  What's more, there are other stores that sell videos showing people killing other people.

So .. in this community, devices for pleasure are bad.  Devices for killing are OK.  Videos showing people being nice to each other are bad.  Videos showing people killing each other are OK.

This I will never understand.

NOT ALL OF OUR EMAIL IS HATEFUL!

This morning we received this email message from Sandy:

I took my family to O'Charley's in Snellville this past Saturday for dinner. It was my daughter and my oldest sons birthday dinner. My son has recently graduated from basic in Columbus and is with the 48th brigade in Conyers. We sat down at the table there was 6 of us, this woman walks up to the table and said that she listens to your show and wanted to buy my son and his family dinner. She came back over to the table and laid 100 dollars on the table to cover our meal. She was not sure if it would cover the meal; well it did and gave my son 10 dollars left for gas to start this week with. Then before we left a gentleman came over and handed my son a 25 dollar gift certificate. Which I am sure listens to your show also. I later just went home and cried with joy. We hear all the time of the anti war protesters but hardly ever do we hear of the supporters of our troops. Neal please give thanks these families for us. Their kindness and support meant so much to my family and I.  Sandy and family

To whoever showed this act of kindness to this family ... thanks from all of us.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

I have full confidence that the U.S. is safe as long as we have these anti-terrorist training camps. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Change of direction at Georgia Tech?  It seems that someone at Tech has been re-introduced to our Bill of Rights! Political correctness struck down!  Well .. .it did take a lawsuit, so no credit is due to the Georgia Tech administration.  A federal judge has put the Tech administration on double super secret probation.  Please note the headline used in the AJC story.

This SOB has been arrested 226 times.  Can someone please tell me why he should spend one more day outside of a jail cell?  Doesn't Nebraska have a 225 strikes and you're out law?  Guess not.  There are some crooks in Nebraska with over 500 arrests.

Yesterday I caught just a wee-bit of flack by suggesting that Hezbollah won the conflict with Israel ... by default ... after the U.S. pressured Israel to cease and desist in its efforts to destroy this Islamist terrorist organization.  Now the New York Times is reporting that Hezbollah is gaining not only strength, but stature after the cease fire.  Sooner or later we'll have to fight these killers and their Iranian masters.  The longer we wait the bloodier it will be.

Well ... let's see what leftist "peace-at-any-price" Ned Lamont has to say after his defeat of Joe Lieberman in Connecticut.  My guess is that he'll lurch toward the center.  That's what leftists do after primaries and before general elections.  Here's Lamont's op-ed in today's Wall Street Journal.

Is James Dobson trying to build a church-based political machine?

Kathleen Parker says that sensible people are reconsidering our government's opposition to profiling in the search for terrorists.  "Sensible people" huh?  Well, when are the liberals going to get on board?

Ahhhhh ... but here comes a liberal to tell us that profiling is "unAmerican."  What was that Kathleen Parker wrote about "sensible people?"

An excellent column from Tony Blankley.  He's writing about a new book detailing "The Third World Conquest of America."

John Leo wrote a farewell column?  Say it ain't so!  He's not going to be writing columns any more?  This, my friends, is a huge loss.  I'll be glad to take his spot ... and I'll even hire a proofreader!

Have you ever seen the website "Zero Intelligence" ? The sub-title is "Fighting School Board Inanity since 2004".  It looks like it hasn't been updated for about six months .. .but it's worth a glance anyway.  Read about the flame-spewing Bible!

A group of young eco-radicals lecture school students on the dangers of farming.  All those farms, after all, are pushing wild animals off the land!  As the column title says, "Never Underestimate Stupidity."

The TSA is insisting that machines that X-ray shoes can detect bombs.   A study by the Department of Homeland Security says otherwise.  One thing that's not in dispute, X-raying people's shows is probably a complete waste of time.

With the situation in southern Lebanon still a bit tense, Ben Shapiro examines why Israel lost in their war against Hezbollah.  He says they could have started by hammering civilians that supported Hezbollah.

It's the latest trend in Middle Eastern news photography: "fauxtography."  Michelle Malkin tracks several cases where news wires have made available images that have been altered...exposing an agenda.

Dr. Walter E. Williams makes note of how leftist faculties at universities ignore the atrocities committed by communists in our history.  Among their favorite butchers to stick up for are Stalin and Mao.

Hispanic groups and the ACLU are suing a town in Pennsylvania for cracking down on illegal aliens.  Apparently enforcing the laws of the United States of America is not politically correct anymore.

Democrats aren't escaping Hispanics' wrath, either.   They say an ad currently being aired by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee unfairly compares illegal aliens with to terrorists.  Actually, it's not a bad comparison: both enter the country illegally and break our laws.

Has Iraq turned into George W. Bush's Vietnam?  Rich Lowry of National Review Online examines the question and concludes that Iraq isn't the president's Vietnam...yet.  He does wonder if Bush realizes how close he is, though.

All of this talk about a cease-fire in Israel has Thomas Sowell fed up with the use of the phrase "cease-fire."  How many cease-fires have we had in the Middle East and what exactly is this latest one going to accomplish?

After 9/11, Congress passed a law creating a loan program for small businesses who were affected by the attacks.  But as John Stossel reports, the loan program is being abused...and government is doing nothing to stop the problem.
