| Monday, August 28, 2006 Thursday and Friday of last week our flagship radio station, Atlanta's News Talk 750 WSB, held their Sixth Annual Care-a-Thon. We broadcast for those two days from the AFLAC Cancer Center at Children's Hospital in Atlanta. Now even though this was a local effort by our station, many of my listeners from around the country chipped in with donations. We know this from the tracking of zip codes in pledges. This effort means a lot to Belinda, Royal and myself. Over the year's we've come to know many of the young cancer victims being treated at the AFLAC Cancer Center, and their parents as well. This year we were visited by some young friends who are now in remission and doing some fine. We were also visited by the parents of some of the children we have known who lost their battle with cancer. These people are now part of our WSB and Neal Boortz Show family, and we thank you so much for chipping in with us to try to find a cure and additional treatments for these horrible diseases.
There are a few differences though. First .. this is the age of (argggghhhhhhhh!!!!!) GLOBAL WARMING! Now never mind the evidence. The anti-capitalist environmental moonbats have decided that we have caused significant global warming ... and that the global warming is caused by Americans driving SUVs. Secondly ... we have Katrina. Watch the TV newscasts and weathercasts very carefully. Everyone seems to have received the memo. We are at the one-year anniversary of Katrina, and Katrina must be mentioned in all stories dealing with Ernesto. It matters not that Ernesto looks like a weakling ... with every newscast you have to somehow make people believe that they are going to see another disaster of the Katrina scale. Remember ... all of the broadcast and cable news networks have positioned very expensive satellite trucks throughout the Florida Keys. They're paying big bucks to get their reporters down there so that non-stop images can fill your TV as the storm approaches. Remember, this is all about images --- and these images are expensive. How do they pay for this expensive equipment and these high-priced personnel? With advertising, of course! And the more people they have watching, the higher the ratings. The higher the ratings, the more they can charge for the advertising. So the game here is to make sure you keep glued to the TV screens. To do this they will spend the next day or so trying to scare the absolute goose squeeze out of you until (1) Ernesto actually turns into a threat and they can report the news as it is instead of how they want it to be; or, (2) Ernesto fizzles and goes away. Now .. it's not only the media that's in full-blown panic mode. Count government in also. Florida has declared a state of emergency. Ernesto is only a tropical storm, and Jeb Bush is declaring a state of emergency. In 2004 Florida had four separate hurricanes. Not once was a state of emergency declared for any of those storms when they still categorized as tropical storms and the winds were only 50 miles per hour. Hell ... why don't we just keep Florida in a continuous state of emergency? After all, almost any thunderstorm -- and Florida has more of them than any other state -- can put out 50 mph winds. Now ... for all you hurricane junkies out there, here's an excellent site with more information than you really need!
Stand by folks. When the media isn't pushing Ernesto ... it's going to be wall-to-wallKatrina. Today we're hearing all about how George Bush failed the people of New Orleans. Not Ray Nagin. Not Kathleen Blanco. Remember .. they're Democrats. There was only one person in this country who was supposed to save the day for the people of New Orleans .. and that person was George Bush. Also ... in all of these Katrina retrospectives do you think the networks and cable news channels will bring us up to speed on all of the Katrina deadbeats who are still freeloading in faraway places? How about a report on the increased crime that Katrina refugees brought to so many communities from coast to coast? Yeah ... we'll wait for that report.
Iran is feeling bold .. and why not? Their proxy war in Lebanon was a complete and total success. All pretenses have been dropped, and the world now sees Iran's Hezbollah adventures as a victory. The leaders of Iran may well sense that the world doesn't have any heart for using military power to thwart their nuclear ambitions. Iran knows that there is nothing to fear from the United Nations. Sanctions? Oh sure, the U.N. could impose sanctions, but Iran has surely learned well from the actions of Saddam Hussein. It would take no time for the Mad Mullahs and the Iranian political leadership to set up whatever avenues are required to assure the flow of cash needed to sustain Iran's armament program. In the meantime, they would immediately crank up the public relations volume to tell the world that Iranian women and children are dying because the evil U.N. is denying Iran the funds needed for basic nutrition and health needs. Remember -- the current rule is that nothing can be done about Iran if military action would mean civilian deaths. Muslim radicals know this.
Now, in Conan O'Brien's defense, we're talking about a bit that was probably shot days in advance, was an obvious parody of the show 'Lost' and had no malicious intent. But in this day of hyper-sensitivity something like this is going to create a stir. OK .. here's where it gets interesting. One Internet blog raised an interesting point last night: would NBC have run the skit if the plane crash had happened on the West coast? Probably not. How about a New York airport? No again. This accident happened in the South. So ... no big deal. Could it be ... is
there any possibility ... that executives decided it would be OK to go ahead
with this skit because, after all, the plane crash was in Kentucky? It's
not like a bunch of Californians or New Yorkers got killed, is it? Truth? Every step
was planned. War with Israel was the desired goal. The plan worked
perfectly. Who knows .. .maybe I'll include it in "Somebody's Gotta Say It"! At any rate ... it just occurred to me that it might be a good idea, being the negative person we all know that I am, to post some reasons why you shouldn't' vote for a particular political party. Everyone seems to be telling you why you should .. so here's your why you shouldn't list. Why you shouldn't vote Republican They have absolutely no fiscal discipline whatsoever. No congress has ever blown money on vote-buying programs quite like the current Republican congress has. There are far too many Republicans who want to take their personal religious blueprints for behavior and make them law. The seem unwilling to press the advantage when it is theirs to press. They're prudes. Stem cell research. Donald Wildmon The McCain-Feingold Campaign Reform Act. Democrats think that it's odd that the jails are so full while our crime rate is going down. The Medicare Prescription Drug benefit for the Gimme Generation If they had their way, Terri Schiavo's soul would still not be at rest. They pay more attention to K Street than they do to the American workers and businessmen carrying the load. They can't even protect America's borders. Do you want your kids to come home from a government school and tell you that the Earth is only 6000 years old? Why you shouldn't vote Democrat They clearly will not defend America from Islamic Fascism ... not now ... not until the price of that defense is catastrophic. They think terrorism is a law enforcement problem. Their war against individualism. They think America is great because of its government. They seem to think that income is distributed, not earned. They promote class warfare. They have almost single-handedly destroyed black culture in America. Hillary Clinton. They're joined at the hip with teacher's unions. Taxes can never be too high for Democrats. They fully intend to destroy talk radio. Their love of mob rule. The fully intend to turn illegal aliens into Democrat voters. Like the Republicans; they refuse to protect America's borders Why your shouldn't vote Libertarian With over 50% of the American people harboring strong libertarian feelings, they can't manage to mount a viable third-party campaign. How would they manage to govern? Not only will they not defend America's borders, they don't really think the borders need defending. Though philosophically they're right, they fail to see that their "legalize drugs" agenda isn't exactly a winner with the American people. They never jumped on eminent domain abuse as the party agenda. People will react when they think their property rights are being threatened .... and the Libertarians couldn't take advantage of this.
