HE DIDN'T KNOW?  THIS IS A JOKE, RIGHT?

OK .. I don't want to dwell on the ports situation again today.  We pretty much said all there is to say yesterday, and it's time for some new material.  There is one issue, though, that surfaced today that is deserving of at least a passing comment.  We're learning today that the president didn't even know about the sale of the contract to operate six major American ports to an Arab government until after the deal was done!  Can this possibly be true?  The United States is at war against Muslim terrorism, and a deal is cut to turn the operational control of six U.S. ports over to a Muslim government without the president even being informed?

Please ... tell me this came from the Daily Show and not the daily White House press briefing.

There's another new aspect to this story.  It seems that there might have been some sort of a deal between the White House and the United Arab Emirates.  Under this supposed secret deal the White House would approve the ports deal if the UAE owned company would agree to share information about what went on at the ports and to keep as many U.S. managers in place as possible.

We have a $6.8 billion transaction here.  On the one hand we hear that Bush knew nothing about it.  On the other hand, there was a secret deal with Dubai.  Would

anybody want to guess how long it's going to take the press to comb through some financial records to look for some odd little connections to Republicans or the Bush White House?  Just a thought ......

WITH SOME MUSLIMS THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN WIN

I don't know who the ultimate mastermind of the Muslim PR machine is, but whoever he or she is, they deserve wild accolades for the incredible and masterful job they're doing manipulating the American penchant for obsessive political correctness and our slavish devotion to multiculturalism.  While Muslims continue to murder innocents around the world, the PC crowd continues to insist that Islam is a "religion of peace."  Immediate apologies are demanded of anyone who dares say otherwise.

An  interesting event at Harvard University illustrates the point.  The Harvard Salient is a conservative student newspaper.  Judith Kidd, a Harvard associate dean, thought it possible that the Salient might decide to publish those Mohammed cartoons that have been a catalyst for Muslim violence around the world.  Kidd sent an email to the editors of The Harvard Salient suggesting that publishing the cartoons might not be a good idea.  Kidd wrote: "Some segments of the campus and surrounding communities may be sufficiently upset by the publication of the cartoons that they may become dangerous."

In other words ... if you publish the cartoons Muslims may get upset and become violent.  Well ... how DARE this Harvard associate dean suggest in any way that Muslims can be dangerous?  How dare she suggest that a reaction to those cartoons would be anything other than calm and peaceful?  Muslims dangerous?  Say it ain't so!

Well .. now Judith Kidd has Harvard campus Muslims upset.  They are protesting, saying that Kidd's comments were "offensive" and "harmful."  Awwwwww.  Isn't that a shame?  Offended Muslims in Boston!  Oh, the humanity!  Let's call the caterers, order the noisemakers and have a nice little pity party for Harvard Muslims. Of course, she has now issued an apology

Again, let's give credit where it's due.  Print the cartoons and Muslims get upset.  Say that Muslims will get upset if you print the cartoons, and Muslims get upset.  Face it ... they have us cornered.

MOSQUE BOMBING IN IRAQ

Once in a while in this country you read about somebody bombing or burning down a church.  It's been happening quite a lot in Alabama recently.  The local fire department is dispatched to put out the fire and the police investigate to figure out what happened.  I can't recall a single instance in recent history where somebody felt the need to riot over such an assault on a place or worship.  Perhaps a peaceful demonstration, but that's it.

Now contrast that with the uncivilized behavior in Iraq.  Some "militants" or "gunmen" or "insurgents" or whatever nice word the media uses for Islamic terrorists decided to bomb a mosque in Samarra.  This did not go over well.  Rioting has ensued.  The media is predicting civil war.  Well, that was the point!  This Mosque that was destroyed was over 1200 years old.  The gold dome of this Mosque was a revered symbol to millions of Shiite Muslims.  It's a tragedy, no doubt about it.  But contrast the differences between the wonderful, peaceful religion of Islam, and other worldwide religions.  Can Iraqi Muslims handle this insult and tragedy without resorting to the civil war that some so earnestly want? This is a maturity check. Is the Islamic religion one of reason and peace, or one of irrationality and violence?

Sometimes you have to wonder if those who say that Arabs just don't have a culture that can embrace equality and freedom don't actually have a point.

EVERY 45 DAYS

I have often mentioned that I enjoy reading letters to the editor from the Naples (Fl) Daily News.  I read newspapers from all over the country, and nowhere do I find a letters section quite as enjoyable as this one.  Though I can't find it stated anywhere, there appears to be a policy limiting letter writers to one published submission every 45 days or so.  This means that you have to wait patiently for the letters from a small cadre of ultra-leftist moonbats to appear.  This morning my foray to the Naples Daily News website was rewarded with a letter from one Jane Varner, a moonbat of the barking variety.  I thought you might enjoy reading it for yourselves.  Note, please, that Jane Varner does what liberals do so well ... compare our country to Nazi Germany ... and she even managed to demonstrate her believe in a moral equivalence between Iran and Israel.  So ... here you go!  Enjoy!

Editor, Daily News:

Well, well. Our president wants another $120 billion for wars plus $439 billion for defense (offense).

Imperialism is costly.

Calling our country Christian seems a misnomer. Evidence shows we don't believe in Christ's teaching of nonviolence and peace. Instead, we glorify the violence of the Old Testament while we chastise the Muslims for doing the same. As strongly as we believe in our God, so do they in theirs. As we call them evil, they see us as evil. So let's stop this "evil" nonsense.

If we believe in freedom for the world's people, then let them have it. Freedom is not defined by our beliefs or our culture. If our quest for world freedom means only our brand, then we don't know the meaning of the word.

Face it. We act like Adolf Hitler, claiming our superiority gives us a right to aggress on others. No laws or morals bind us. Our standards are fluid, expecting little from some and everything from others. So there are resisters who fight for their existence and freedom from a threatening and hypocritical giant.

As for Iran - back off. Iran is no threat to the United States unless we create it. They've said their ambitions are lawful - nuclear energy. Don't impute to them more. Work with them. Playing hard line with them about nuclear weapons while accepting Israel's doesn't wash. Double standards create animosity.

If we don't cease our belligerence and living by the sword, our end is foretold. Unless we seek our demise, it's vital we return home.

Jane Varner/Naples

I wish we had a picture of Jane the Liberal.  Ought to be quite a sight.

There's been a big victory for private property rights in Oregon.  Here's the good news.

Peggy Noonan seems to be having a rough time with airport security lately.  No fix suggested, just an illustration that the TSA has become a sad joke.

Were the cartoon protests in Nigeria just part of an attempt to make Nigeria an Islamic state? The idea that Democrats suddenly care so much about national security is a joke, but George Bush is going to need a better reason for turning over our ports to a Middle Eastern country.  So says Ann Coulter in her latest column.

A community college student is in trouble for yelling "remember Chappaquiddick!" during a speech by Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy in Brockton, Mass.  Absolutely priceless.  In trouble?  That kid deserves an award.

Former Central Command General Tommy Franks went on Hannity and Colmes to defend the Dubai Ports deal, calling the UAE a friend.  He says the Military uses their ports all day long.

Cindy Sheehan has found a new career as a concert promoter.  As you might imagine, there is no shortage of music industry leftists lining up to play at her little shindig.  This woman has taken her son's tragic death and continues to exploit it for her own personal gain.

Reasonable Democrat Joe Lieberman says people shouldn't trash the Dubai Ports deal.
He calls the UAE an ally in the war on terrorism.  He says a lot of terminals in America are already run by foreign companies.

Mayor Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin faces an uphill battle for re-election.
Politically crippled from his handling of Katrina, people smell blood and are now 10 challengers are lining up to run for mayor.

New York Senator Chuck Schumer and Congressman Pete King wonder just where the common sense is in this Dubai Ports deal.

The mainstream media's decision not to print the Mohammed cartoons shows that they have failed in their mission.  It wasn't always this way, as William Bennet and Alan Dershowitz explain in a joint editorial.

The resignation of Harvard President Larry Summers shows what's wrong with academia today.  Thomas Sowell says his two biggest problems were honesty and a desire to do the right thing.

Senator Rick Santorum opposes the Dubai Ports takeover of the 6 major American ports.  He says it is a risk to let a country with ties to Islamic fascism run our ports.

Georgia wants to make the flavor of marijuana illegal. Hey, better stock up on hemp candy.
