HORRIBLE HARRY

Harry Reid, the Senator from Nevada and the Senate Minority Leader, is dictating to George Bush just what he should say in his upcoming State of the Union speech next week. Reid says Bush should "come clean" about the "costs of Republican corruption." Oh really?

Reid's partisan whining came yesterday during a speech at a leftist think tank in which he said, among other things: "In his 2000 campaign, George Bush promised to bring dignity to the White House but we've since found that he brought Jack Abramoff instead. President Bush needs to quit stonewalling about his White House's connection to corruption, and finally tell us how he's going to reform Washington." Right.

Of course, Reid didn't mention what a brief Google session would reveal ... that he took money from Abramoff's clients. The total take would be about $66,000 between 2001 and 2004. You won't hear any mention of this in the mainstream media...because to do so would be to deviate from the media bias template that has served the left so well. It's much easier to continue the lie that Jack Abramoff is solely a Republican scandal.

Harry Reid wasn't through demonstrating his partisanship and the shallowness of his rhetoric. He also scolded the president over the Medicare prescription plan: "The state of our union today is that we have seniors begging in the streets for the medicine they need." This, of course, is a premeditated, intentional and incredible lie. Seniors do not beg in the streets for medicine. Every major pharmaceutical company has a "lifeline" program that makes sure that no American is ever denied necessary medication because they can't afford it. This Harry Reid statement is just another shot fired in the war for socialized medicine. Right now we are spending billions of dollars on free pills for the Gimme Generation and it's not enough? Of course, no government spending is ever enough for the left.

Harry Reid is a liar and a fraud. But don't expect to ever see it on the nightly news or read about it in the newspaper.

MORE FROM CINDY SHEEHAN

Cindy Sheehan's 15 minutes should have been up months ago. A grief-stricken mother of a fallen soldier in the war on terror speaks out against the war. It was a nice story. For about a week. But then the Crawford Crackpot got a taste of the attention, publicity and notoriety. and she became intoxicated. It was then that the media turned her into a rock star.

Now every time a sound comes out of Cindy's mouth we hear about it. So what is Cindy Sheehan doing to stain the memory of her son now? She's gone to Venezuela...to meet the anti-American, Bush-hating, socialist President Hugo Chavez. Once there, she participated in an anti-globalization march and hailed Chavez, proclaiming her admiration for the thug dictator: "I admire him for his resolve against my government and its meddling." Venezuela's foreign ministry paid for her visit. How nice. Hugo Chavez is an an ally of Fidel Castro and cannot in any way be considered a friend to the United States.

It's been almost 2 years since Casey Sheehan died in Iraq, and he's most certainly been spinning in his grave ever since. His mother is an embarrassment.

You brilliant anti-war liberals out there --- are you now ready to admit what rational and reasonable Americans have known for some time now? Cindy Sheehan is a complete loon. A fruitcake. Wade through the ocean of her intellect and you would barely get your feet wet. (I stole that).

GOVERNMENT AT WORK

Fare gate similar to the "jumper proof" MARTA gates

OK ... here's the latest from my hometown rapid transit agency, lovingly called "MARTA." MARTA has quite a history of absurdity. When the original high-speed rail lines were laid out people were surprised to find out that there would be no MARTA rail or station anywhere near the football/baseball stadium. Reason? The city of Atlanta owned the parking revenues at the stadium and didn't want to lose any money. Years later the board of directors of MARTA decided it would be a good idea to give a career welfare recipient ... and I'm not using hyperbole here ... a real, honest-to-goodness career welfare recipient --- to be the chairman of the MARTA board of directors. Makes sense, doesn't it? You take a billion-dollar system and put a woman who is incapable of holding a job in charge. Smart. Moves like that really build confidence.

Well ... here's the latest. MARTA, like other rapid transit agencies, has trouble with gate-jumpers; people who just don't want to pay the toll. So the agency spends millions of dollars for a new fare collection/gate system designed to make it all but impossible to jump the gates and avoid paying the toll. Well, the new system works. Nobody is going to jump this gate. It's over six feet tall! Nope, they won't jump .. they'll just crawl under it. The gate is so high off the floor that you could drive a go-cart under it. No problem just to slide under and be on your way. Millions of dollars to make crooks crawl instead of jump. Yup ... that works.

HEY ZACH! WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?

Last Friday the Washington Post ran a story about the great Republican agenda of 2006. That story was particularly pleasing to me because it seems that Republican officeholders are upset that gas prices and the FairTax seem to be at the top of the conversational list for constituents. The Post reported that Tennessee Republican Congressman Zach Wamp "lamented" the fact that more people were interest in The FairTax Book written by Congressman John Linder and myself than were interested in changing government. Somehow Congressman Wamp misses the fact that changing our tax code and adopting the FairTax IS changing government.

Well, yesterday Wamp was interviewed on my Knoxville affiliate. He was interviewed by the incredible Hallerin Hill on NewsTalk 100 WNOX-FM. It seems that Mr. Wamp had some things to say about the FairTax that were not, shall we say, quite accurate. This is par for the course for politicos who oppose the FairTax. They first have to change the terms, then they oppose the legislation on the basis of the fictions they created. Well ... the intrepid Belinda called Congressman Wamp's office to invite him to discuss the FairTax and his concerns on the air. He declined. He said he didn't want to "give Neal Boortz any more publicity." Now there is a congressman who has a real grip on this "represent the people" gig. Oh well, he's probably a decent guy who is making sure his dog gets enough cheese ... whatever that means.

So glad to see New Orleans has repaired the dome so quickly...

A NEW NAME FOR BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN?

Grant sends this in: Since Brokeback Mountain was done by Ang Lee, who also did Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, I have playfully renamed Brokeback Mountain to: Crouching Cowboy, Hidden Sausage.

People who think that Iraqis had it better under Saddam Hussein than they do now should take note: a video has been released that shows some of Saddam's atrocities.  It's not pretty.

A male Texas teacher is facing 20 years for an improper relationship with a female student.  Now...had this been a female teacher and a male student...we'd be talking about a much lighter sentence. And so it goes.

You know how Democrats are running around calling the Jack Abramoff situation a Republican scandal?  Looks like none other than Senator Patrick Leahy was a big beneficiary of Abramoff's largess...through his clients and law firms, of course.

Did you know that the crime rate in Canada is twice what it is here?  That's right...not exactly what the media has led you to believe, is it?  Read on.

One magazine is reporting that the Bush administration is preparing for impeachment hearings.  The reason? Support for the administration's wiretapping program in the Senate seems to be thin.

GM....Ford....and now the New York Times.  Yet another corporate dinosaur in trouble because of an archaic, outmoded business model. That it happens to be a leftist newspaper just makes it all the more ironic.

John Stossel tells us about people getting busted
for trying to get their kids into a good public school.  Even people who just want their kids to have a decent education are considered criminals.

In part two of his series about real political corruption, Thomas Sowell  says perhaps an idea would be for public officials to serve only one term.  Perhaps we should increase members of Congress' salaries.

Dr. Walter E. Williams makes a good point about Hurricane Katrina relief.  Since FEMA botched last year's rescue operation so badly, why then are we giving them more money and more authority?  Good point.

Osama Bin Laden made that audiotape and offered a truce....but why?  Former New York Mayor Ed Koch takes a look at the possible reasons.

This will live in my all time favorite link section to the left there in the navigation, but here it is again: go organize and discuss the FairTax with people in your area at fairtaxgroups.com.
