It's over folks! The heat was stifling, but the Orlando police said that between 10 and 12,000 people showed up for this morning's FairTax rally!

I took plenty pictures .. but don't have a way to download them on this little bitty computer right now. Maybe the folks at WDBO will have some photos up on www.wdbo.com pretty quick

I just want to thank every single person who stood out there in this heat and humidity to call attention to the FairTax plan. I personally met quite a few Florida politicians and candidates this morning, and they were stunned by the size of the crowd. So .... a huge thanks.

Every body counts ... and we certainly had enough out there today to send a pretty loud message.

We're trying to get a revolution going here.  Revolutions take participation.  The FairTax would be (all together now) the largest transfer of power from politicians to the people since this country was formed.  Politicians aren't going to do this unless their jobs are on the line.  Your purpose in showing up at the rally tomorrow in Orlando is to show them that their jobs are, in fact, on the line.

I'm told that the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee is sending staffers down to Orlando tomorrow to see how this thing works out.  Huge crowd --- they go back to Washington and tell the committee that the FairTax is a force to be reckoned with.  Small crowd, they go back to Washington and tell the committee that they have nothing to worry about.

Don't forget the pancake breakfast!

Caravan from Gainesville and Ocala!

My affiliate Sky-97, WSKY in Gainesville-Ocala, FL is leading a caravan of Fair Tax supporters to Orlando to the FairTax rally this Saturday. Staging ground will be at the first rest area off southbound I-75 just south of Ocala between 7:30am and 8:15am. Then, the WSKY caravan will pack the Florida turnpike as we motor to Orlando to show support for some meaningful tax reform.

HERE WE GO WITH THE PROFIT HYSTERIA AGAIN

The Associated Press is reporting that Exxon Mobil's second quarter profits totaled $10.36 billion. That's the second largest quarterly profit ever recorded by any publicly traded U.S. company.

OK .. get ready for the screams.  It's just a matter of hours before some demagogues in Congress start yelling again for a windfall profits tax.  Across the country we're going to hear screams of anguish from economic ignoramuses who couldn't tell you the difference from a profit and a profit margin.

Nowhere in the article can you find Exxon Mobil's profit margin for the quarter.  You can, though, find the numbers you can crunch to reach that figure.  Total revenues for Exxon Mobil during the quarter were $99.03 billion.  Run a little division problem and you come up with a 10.46% profit margin.  Not bad at all, but not the best out there either.  Most pharmaceutical and banking companies earned a higher profit margin. 

The amount of profit earned is directly tied to the price of the product you are selling, and the market for that profit.  All these higher profits mean is that the cost of Exxon Mobil's products (primarily petroleum-based products) has gone up along with demand. 

By the way ,,, during the quarter Exxon spent nearly $5 billion of this profit on capital projects and exploration for new sources of oil, and another $7,9 billion was sent to shareholders in the form of dividends and share repurchases.  Belinda is one of those shareholders, so perhaps you can blame here for your high gas prices.  Besides Belinda, we have some of teacher's union pension funds out there who invest heavily in Exxon Mobil. These dividends, which came from the Exxon profits, will be spent to cover pension checks to retired teachers.  Now that's pretty nasty, isn't it!  How DARE these teachers receive pension checks funded by investments in a successful corporation like Exxon Mobil when the government could be getting that money thorough a windfall profits tax?

MCKINNEY WATCH

There's a valid excuse for my support of Cynthia McKinney in her Democratic primary runoff election with Hank Johnson.  After all, what is my choice?  Do I want an effective Democrat in that office who might actually earn a modicum of respect inside the Beltway?  Do I want a Democrat who might actually be effective in implementing the Democrats big-government, soak the achievers philosophy?  Or do I want a Democrat who is all but invisible in the DC scheme of things and who can be counted on for nothing else than to break into the news cycle every few months with some action that is so profoundly stupid that it serves as an embarrassment for the entire Democrat Party?

The choice there is rather easy, and I'm somewhat dismayed to report to you today that recent polls show McKinney trailing in this runoff race.

OK .. I can explain my endorsement.  But what about Andrew Young?  What possible reason did he have to come out in support of McKinney.  Well ... here's his reasoning. 

1. "She thinks for herself." Well isn't that special.  Come on Andy.  It's not who's doing the thinking, it's what's being thought.  I wonder who Young thinks does the thinking for Hank Johnson.
2. She has a "right to express her opinions."  Well there's another golden reason to support McKinney!  She has a right to express her opinions!  Yippee!   I guess Young is saying here that Johnson doesn't have a right to express his opinions.
3. Young also says that he thinks it scandalous that the national Fraternal Order of Police donated $1,000 to Hank Johnson's campaign.  So .. there you go.  The police shouldn't donate to political campaigns.  Another reason Young is endorsing McKinney.

Come on, Andy.  You're better than this.

DEMOCRATS LAUNCH SIX POINT PLAN

The Democratic Party has decided to lift a page from the Newt Gingrich playbook and come up with their own 'Contract With America,' which was the plan the House Republicans ran on in 1994.  For the first time in 40 years, the Democrats' were blown out of the House and the rest is history. 

So what are the Dems calling their plan?

"Six for '06."  How nice.  Just six?  What are they?  Well, here they are: national security, jobs and wages, energy independence, affordable health care, retirement security and college access for all.  Now, since these points were written by Democrats, they will need a bit of translation, so here goes.

National security?  The correct word, when talking about Democrats would be appeasement.  That is their doctrine.  Nobody could possibly believe that the Democrats are serious about fighting the Islamic radicals.  Hell, they won't even call them what they are!

Energy independence?  That's a code phrase for government-mandated small cars no one wants, gas lines and higher gas taxes. It also means tens of millions of taxpayer dollars sent to colleges and universities to study alternate fuels, and quite possibly a nice little windfall tax on energy companies to top things off!

Affordable health care?  Your answer there is socialized medicine.  Simple as that.  Remember HillaryCare?  Well, wait until you see the second coming!

Retirement security?  What they really mean is huge increases in Social Security taxes in order to fund a bankrupt program with a poor return on your money.   They surely don't mean letting you plan and control your own retirement savings. 

College access  for all?  That's even more of a joke.  Everybody already has access to college, but what the Democrats want is 100% taxpayer-funded government schools. 

So really, their 6 points really come down to 3 points.  Appease the Islamic terrorists, raise taxes and grow government.   Since it's all more of the same, this is unlikely to energize the voters.  Besides, they forget their 7th most important point: we hate George Bush.

HAPPIEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD?

Big headline this morning in the news....Denmark is officially the happiest country in the world.  Wondering why that is?  Perhaps it's the legalized prostitution.  Then again, maybe not. 

A researcher at the University of Leicester in England did the research, ranking 178 countries from first to worst.  The United States ranked 23rd.  If you think that's bad, France ranked 62nd.  At least we're ahead of France.

But if you look at the study a little closer, the real motivation here comes into view. The main factors in the study were health provision, wealth and education.  In other words, the countries with the highest levels of government created the happiest society.  This just further advances the notion that governments are supposed to guarantee people their happiness.

It's a good thing our Founding Fathers saw it differently.  In this country, you are simply guaranteed the pursuit of happiness.  It's up to you to go out and make it happen.  It would appear as more and more time passes by, people are looking to the nanny state for their happiness.  Reliance upon governments increase and leftists who seek power rejoice.

Still though...23 is not bad.  We could be Burundi...which came in last place.

CINDY SHEEHAN MOVES INTO CRAWFORD

Well, anti-war leftist barking moonbat Cindy Sheehan has now officially gone from presidential protester to stalker.  She has purchased property in Crawford, Texas near George W. Bush's ranch.  The Secret Service is probably overjoyed.  What's more interesting, however, is how the transaction went down.

Evidently, the person who sold Sheehan the 5 acre tract of land had no idea it was being sold to her.  In fact, according to a bit on Drudge this morning, they were flat-out lied to: "We were duped, we were deceived. We had no idea. It was an individual person that purchased it, and we were just led to believe that this person was a hurricane Katrina evacuee, and he wanted to purchase this land to build a home on."  Uh-oh.

You have to wonder about this woman's mental condition.  It's one thing to protest the war, but to take up residence near the president?  That's a bit off the deep end, don't you think.  Then again, Cindy Sheehan has been a couple cans short of a six pack for quite some time.  You have to wonder about her son, too.  He has to be spinning in his grave from the embarrassment caused by his mother.

The worst part?  How she got the money.  It came from the insurance money she received after her son was killed in Iraq.  Nice touch.

And now for today's Mr. Ungrateful award.  Montana Senator Conrad Burns chewed out some firefighters at an airport the other day.  He complained about they way they were doing their job fighting wildfires.  The firefighters, who make between $8 and $12 an hour, were none too pleased.

What would you say if somebody threw $34 billion (yes..billion..with a 'B') down a rathole?   Then what would you say if it was taxpayer money?  Well, it happened.  The Department of Homeland Security spent that much on wasteful contracts in its first two years.

Some members of the American Psychological Association are upset that the organization has ruled it's ethical for psychologists to assist in military interrogations.  Evidently it has fallen out of vogue to actually help out your country in wartime.

Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young is supporting Cynthia McKinney's re-election, but it may not help.  In fact, it may be too little, too late.  Polls show McKinney is trailing her challenger in the August 8th election.  The people of the 4th Congressional District have their fingers crossed.

A Muslim man waiting in a butcher shop for his order of goat meat in Springfield, Virginia decided to walk behind the counter, pick up an electric meat cutter and cut off his hand.  He then waived his bloody arm in the air announcing that he did it for Allah.

David Limbaugh looks at Howard Dean's sudden outrage over anti- Semitism and notes a bit of hypocrisy.   It seems some time back, Howard Dean was quoted as saying we shouldn't take sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 

The Secretary for Homeland Security Michael Chertoff says the administration has all but ended its catch-and-release policy down at the Mexican border.  This is the policy where they catch illegals and let them go.  Now we just need a new catch-and-release policy.  Catch the illegal aliens in the United States and release them in Mexico.

Some liberals are even starting to call out the Democrats for their national security policies.  Peter Beinart, writing in the Washington Post, says Democrats are doing nothing more than pandering.

Charles Krauthammer wants to know what other country, when attacked by a foreign government, is then given a time limit of how long they have to beat back the aggression?  Krauthammer correctly points out that this only happens to Israel.

Duncan Currie hails the Ohio Supreme Court's decision to limit eminent domain abuse in their recent ruling, the first by a state supreme court since Kelo vs. New London, Connecticut was handed down.  Perhaps there is still hope for the future.
