A TREMENDOUS DAY FOR THE ISLAMIC JIHAD

There is just no other way to describe it.  Yesterday an Israeli air strike killed a number of civilians in the Southern Lebanon town of Qana.

What didn't really make the news yesterday?  How about the fact that while the world's media was busy telling and re-telling the story of the tragedy in Qana, Hezbollah was firing about 150 missiles into civilian areas of Israel.  This is business as usual for Hezbollah.  They fire these missiles -- well over 1300 so far -- every day, and they fire them intending for them to kill civilians.

What tactics do Hezbollah use while firing these rockets at Israeli civilians?  They fire them from densely populated civilian areas.  We've seen video from Israeli drones that show Hezbollah mobile rocket launchers firing rockets from civilian areas ... then the trucks drive into a densely populated area to hide.  The purpose is clear.  When the Israelis come to destroy the rocket launcher civilians may die, and Hezbollah and it's Muslim apologists will rush to the media with pictures of dead Lebanese women and children.

Make no mistake.  Hezbollah is glad this happened yesterday.  Not just glad .. elated.  This is part of their strategy .. a designed disaster.  These Islamic terrorists hide behind their civilians while trying to kill innocent Israelis.  There are reports that Hezbollah takes steps to prevent civilians from leaving the area.

The world's reaction was typical.  Typical and totally expected.  Kofi the Korrupt, the leader of the hideous anti-American United Nations talked yesterday of how outraged he was at the Israeli action.  Does anyone remember Kofi condemning Hezbollah for their rocket attacks on Israel?  Does anyone remember Kofi condemning Hamas for lobbing over 1000 rockets on Israeli settlements after Israel withdrew from Gaza?

Muslims, of course, were reacting in an entirely predictable way.  They rioted and protested.  The stormed the United Nations headquarters and destroyed some property.  They marched in the streets.  They burned flags.  They shook fists.  They threatened carnage.  They acted as Muslims act when Muslims are killed.  They acted as Muslims seem to never act when Muslims kill innocent civilians.

Muslims killing innocent civilians apparently isn't all that much of a problem for Muslims -- or for Kofi Annan.

Why no protests against Hezbollah?  Muslims don't protest when Muslims kill innocent non-believers.  That's apparently not a problem for them.

Why did Israel attack this particular building?  Was Hezbollah launching rockets from the vicinity of this building?  Did Hezbollah then hide their rocket launchers near the building .. hoping to draw an Israeli attack?

What's next?  Well the pressure is on for a cease fire.  Israel has stopped its air campaign for a 48 hour period to give relief personnel a chance to do their work in Qana.

If a cease fire occurs without Hezbollah being disarmed this whole episode can be considered to be no less than a magnificent victory for Hezbollah and radical Islam.  Hezbollah attacks Israel.  Hezbollah tries to kill Israeli civilians with rockets loaded down with metal balls ... a design for carnage.  Hezbollah does all of this while hiding behind civilians in Lebanon.  Israel responds and civilians in Lebanon die.  The world condemns Israel and forces a cease fire.  Hezbollah gets away with their aggression, Israel is demonized in the world's media, and Hezbollah is left alone to regroup, rearm and prepare for the next offensive.

About the 50 civilians who died.  This is exactly what Hezbollah wanted to happen!  This is their design!  There was celebration within the leadership ranks of Hezbollah when those civilians, including children, died.  Hezbollah brings death to Lebanese civilians, and the Lebanese honor and adore Hezbollah.

Kofi Annan says that there cannot be any military solution to this crisis.  It will have to be a political agreement.   Kofi is wrong.  The only solution to this war with radical Islam is a military one.  Muslim radicals only negotiate under two conditions;  when they're in danger of being totally destroyed and need time to regroup; and when they can use the negotiations to the disadvantage of their adversaries.

This is a war. Israel realizes it.  We don't.

Sure, it's tragic when innocent people die, that has occurred in every war since the beginning of time. For instance, you may not know that the Allies firebombed German cities in World War II...killing thousands of civilians. It was seen as a way to demoralize the Germans and bring about a surrender. The nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed thousands of innocent people. But they saved thousands of American lives in that it brought Japan to its knees and forced the surrender.

Israel is in a fight for its very existence. They are fighting an enemy, Islamic Hezbollah, that is being harbored by a democratically elected government in Lebanon. It is a given that when they attack an Islamic terrorist enemy that hides among civilians, there is going to be some collateral damage. That's what happens during a war.

But sadly, that's not how the rest of the world, including the Bush Administration, sees it. Despite what they say, it appears that severe limits are about to be placed on just how Israel is allowed to defend itself.   If we hold Israel back now, how many lives will be lost when we finally have to act against a strengthened Hezbollah down the road?

SATURDAY'S FAIRTAX RALLY

Well, I guess the best indication of a successful rally in Orlando on Saturday morning is the amount of time the No. 18 radio station in Orlando spent so much time this morning slamming it.  Come on, Pat.  That type of pettiness is rather silly, don't you think?

First .. it was hot.  Not just hot, but brutally hot.  Stifling.  Hot and humid.  Am I getting the point across?  It was like sitting in a runaway sauna out there.  In retrospect, it might have been better to find an indoor venue, but they just weren't available at any reasonable cost!

How many attended?  Well, that seems to be an issue this morning.  All I can say is that the lead police official on the scene told us personally that the crowd exceeded 10,000.  At least two television stations ran noon reports Saturday on the rally in which they said the crowd was in the "hundreds."  We'll link to some pictures here .. you tell me if this looks like just a few hundred people.

I do know exactly how many seats there were at the front of the stage .. and when you take those seats and compare them to the remainder of the crowd, the 10,000 figure is believable.

One big disappointment was the reporting done by April Hunt from the Orlando Sentinel.  I told the crowd at the rally that critics universally change the terms of H.R. 25 before they can criticize it.  April Hunt did the same.  In one paragraph Hunt wrote:  "Linder's plan calls for abolishing the income, payroll, gift and estate taxes.  In their place, government would impose a 30 percent sales tax on all goods and services that consumers must pay."

The rate, of course, is 23%, not 30%.  Nowhere in Hunt's article did she mention the 23% inclusive rate.  Not once.  Nowhere does she explain the difference between an inclusive tax and an exclusive tax.  Nowhere in the article does she explain that the FairTax is quoted as an inclusive tax because it is replacing another inclusive tax .. the income tax.  If you're in a 25% income tax bracket you will pay $25 in federal income taxes out every $100 you earn.  With the 23% FairTax you will pay $23 in taxes out of every $100 you spend.

Here's a question for April Hunt.  When you are reporting on the income tax, do you cite the 25% tax bracket as being 33%?  Well, Ms. Hunt, if you quote the income tax as an exclusive tax, that is exactly what the rate would be!  Just how consistent is your reporting?

Hunt also took great pains to quote some economists who oppose the FairTax ... but not one quote from any of the economists in favor of the plan.  Perhaps that's why the locals call it the Orlando Slantinel.

At any rate --- our heartfelt thanks to those of you who braved the heat and oppressive humidity to turn out on Saturday.  Very special thanks to my Orlando affiliate AM 580 WDBO, and my good friends with Banks and Shane.   Thanks also to NASCON and Don Reid Ford who helped to cover the expenses.

The whole event was very encouraging.  Whenever you can turn out a crowd that huge in that heat for a rally on tax reform, you know you have something going.

GREAT PICTURES OF THE FAIRTAX RALLY!

Jonathan Rube took a whole mess of pictures of the Orlando FairTax Rally Saturday Here's your link! There are 13 pages of pictures here .. so I just know you'll find one you like.  Use the link at the bottom of the page to scroll through all 13 pages! If you have a couple of pictures from the rally you'd like us to post here on boortz.com, email them to us here. Don't forget your name if you'd like credit. We might not be able to post them all, but we'll get as many as we can up.

A LIBERAL ACTIVIST SUPPORTS THE FAIRTAX

Many seem to think that the FairTax is part of some huge conservative agenda.  Here is an article about Ron Deval, a man referred to as a "liberal idealist."  Deval is an "advocate of things that favor humanity" and Deval is a FairTax maniac!  How can a liberal not like a tax reform plan that completely lifts all of the federal tax burden from the backs of the poor?

MINIMUM WAGE ON THE RISE

Media reports say that Democrats see the minimum wage as one of their signature issues in this fall's election. As always, they would like to raise it. In fact, Republicans are along for the ride, passing a bill in the House the other day. But that bill is tied to some tax cuts and is seen as going nowhere once it gets to the Senate.

Right now, the minimum wage is $5.15 an hour. Except for workers who rely on tips, this is the least amount of money an employer is allowed to pay somebody they have employed legally. The argument that is always trotted out for raising it is that this is not a "living wage." How is a single mother supposed to raise a family on $5.15 an hour? That's what we always hear from politicians. With that in mind, it's time for some insensitivity training when it comes to the minimum wage.

First of all, if you are trying to raise a family on $5.15 an hour, you are a loser. Entry-level jobs that pay minimum wage are not meant for somebody trying to raise a family. They're meant for kids in school or adults with minimum job skills.  Basically people trying to get out and earn a little extra money. It's not meant to support a family. If you have kids and $5.15 an hour is the best you can do, it is your own fault that you brought those kids into this world without the means to provide for them.

It is not the job of an employer to step in and cover for the irresponsibility of some fool that thinks they can raise a family without any job skills.

Second, what happens when the minimum wage is raised? Prices for the goods and services provided by those workers rise right along with their wages. If a restaurant employs 10 people at $5.15 an hour and the minimum wage goes up to $6, then guess what? That means the hourly labor costs of that restaurant just went up $8.50. Either some people are fired or the prices go up.  That's how it works.

There is one more argument the left never seems to be able to counter.  Why raise the minimum wage to only $6 or $7 an hour? Why not $10? $12? Surely it takes at least $20 an hour to raise a family, so why not make the minimum wage $20 an hour?  Just think of all the people we could lift out of poverty if we were to raise the minimum wage to $20 ... or even more?  If any of you are successful in getting an answer to that question, let me know.

Another question --- why won't the media explain the union connection to all of this?  Many union contracts out there have a clause in them that ties minimum union wages to an index based on the minimum wage.  When the minimum wage goes up ... so do these union wages.  Now you understand why unions are behind this increase.

Oh .. one more thing.  I'm still looking in our Constitution for some provision that allows the Imperial Federal Government to set wages between private employers and private employees.  Can't find it.

ILLEGAL ALIENS DUMPING TRASH

Imagine if a corporation or an American individual were found to have dumped 25 million pounds of garbage in the Southern Arizona desert. Not only would that person be hauled into court and sentenced to years in prison, but all of their assets would be confiscated to pay for the cleanup. Environmentalists would picket the company in question and every government agency possible would move in and crack down.

Not so when it comes to illegal aliens.

Because that's exactly how much garbage illegals have dumped in Arizona during their forays across the desert while they're invading the United States. In fact, the federal government has been cleaning it up for 3 years...and has only picked up about 1 percent of it. The 25 million pounds comes from an estimate of about 8 pounds of trash dumped by the 3.2 million illegals busted by the Border Patrol between 1999 and 2005. The cost of the cleanup is going to cost millions of dollars.

Where is the environmental movement on this? Why aren't those that would jump on any company that would dump this much trash outraged? We're not talking about just a little litter here. This is millions of pounds of garbage...just sitting out in the desert rotting. The answer to that question is obvious: holding illegal aliens accountable is not politically correct. So the environmental movement gives them a pass.

This may be the key to stopping the invasion!  Get the environmental radicals to mobilize against these human trash spreaders.  If they can't be mobilized by a wanton disregard for our laws, maybe 25 million pounds of garbage can do it.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

Duct tape is, of course, a recurring theme in the redneck scrap book. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Michael Moore says lots of Republicans come up to him and give him a hug because they've change their mind about him.  How nice.  Must be RINOs (Republicans In Name Only.)  Of course, Moore's claim means the media now thinks everybody loves him.

Perky Katie Couric raised the ire of some passengers on a flight the other day when she went running down the aisle and asked to speak to the captain, wanting him to stop the plane so her tardy producer could board.  Now what do you suppose would happen to you or I if we tried that?  You guessed it...straight to jail.

This is interesting.  According to news reports, the two front runners for the 2008 Republican and Democratic nominations are drinking buddies.  It's said that Hillary Clinton and John McCain held a Vodka drinking contest.

It seems fines against employers are not doing the job when it comes to cracking down on illegal aliens.  So, immigration officials have changed tactics.  Now they're pursuing criminal charges against those that break that law by hiring illegals.  Imagine that...actually enforcing the law.

This isn't a surprise.  The New York Times, the leading Islamic terrorist appeasement paper in the United States, has endorsed Joe Lieberman's challenger in the upcoming primary.  Lieberman's crime: not hating Bush enough.

With war breaking out all over the world, columnist Michael Barone says there is actually some good news in all of it.  He pauses to reflect on how things are going at the moment with war and politics.

Henry Kissinger points something out in an op-ed today that most in the media are missing.  Even though the war in Lebanon is between Hezbollah and Israel, all of it leads right back to Iran.  And Iran is getting a huge pass over it.

Jack Kelly says all this cease-fire talk is nonsense.   He correctly points out that diplomacy will only succeed when it is used in conjunction with force.  After all, for how many decades have we tried peace in the Middle East?

Well, here's the official proclamation: Dick Morris says it is possible for Democrats to win the House of Representatives.  He even goes so far as to say they could take the Senate too.  Not a very rosy scenario for Republicans.

Professor Mike Adams has been preaching the idea of beating back the left on college campuses and fighting for ideological freedom for quite some time.  Some say that's impossible and he should just give up.  But in today's column, he explains how to make a difference.

Mel Gibson spouted off some anti-semitic remarks [pdf] when he was arrested for DUI. Whoops. Good luck getting that next film made, Mel. Can't wait to hear the audio! The police department stands by it's report that the arrest was made "without incident."

U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics has a break down of the characteristics of minimum wage workers in 2003. Interesting stuff.
