HEADED FOR SPRINGFIELD, MO!

As soon as I sign off today I'll be hopping in the Mooney and heading to SGF!  That would be av-speak for the Springfield-Branson Regional Airport in Missouri.  I've been invited by my Springfield affiliate News Talk KSGF (104.1 FM 1260 AM) to a dinner with some listeners this evening, and then an event bright and early Saturday morning at the Missouri Entertainment & Event Center at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.  This will be my first visit into this area and I'm very much looking forward to meeting my Springfield listeners this evening and tomorrow morning!   Keep the nympho-cumulus clouds away from me on my way over there this afternoon, would you?

I NEED HELP UNDERSTANDING THIS ONE

President Bush spoke yesterday in Los Angeles on the subject of immigration reform.  For the life of me I cannot figure out what is motivating his stance on this subject.

Bush, speaking to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, insists that any immigration bill passed by the Congress be "comprehensive."   Just exactly what does he mean by "comprehensive."  Glad you asked.  He means that a bill that simply provides for tighter border security and harsher punishment for employers who hire people who are in this country illegally will not satisfy his demands.  We're being invaded.  Some of the invaders crossing our borders refer to themselves as "reconquistadors."  If you don't hablo Espanol, let me help you.  They are calling themselves "re-conquerors."  Many of them ... who knows what percentage ... are not just here to find some better-paying work so they can send dinero back home ... they are here to conquer and establish political control of huge parts of the American Southwest.  If their purposes were entirely benign, why would they print articles in major Mexican magazines bearing headlines like "Los Angeles is ours!"

Can anyone reading this or listening to me on the radio think of one job -- one duty owed this country by the man we made president that is more solemn, more serious, more important than to use whatever resources he may have at his disposal to turn back an invasion of our homeland?  Does the president's duty to protect and defend our borders only come into play if the invasion force is carrying guns?

This particular invasion force doesn't need guns.  They're going to have a more potent weapon, the ballot.  What does this "fast-track" to citizenship that Bush is so insistent upon really mean?  That means a fast track to putting ballots in the hands of those we now call illegal aliens. This is the ultimate goal of  President Bush, Ted Kennedy, John McCain and others.  In fact, movements are already underway in many states and municipalities to grant full voting rights to non-citizens, and in some cases illegal aliens!

Think of the strength behind a ballot!  Americans have been using ballots for hundreds of years to change leadership, to punish political wrongdoing, and to reward political courage.  Americans now gleefully use this weapon to gain access to the property of others, and this they do without a moment's thought given to their legal form of plunder.  A ballot can be used to change our very way of life in this country.  A ballot can be used to gain access to the pockets of every single working American.  A ballot can be used to open the floodgates even further to an broader invasion force.  A ballot can be used to destroy our rights to property and to diminish our standing as free and independent individuals.  What happens when this weapon is placed in the hands of tens of millions of people who had no respect whatsoever for the laws of this country, millions of people who broke the law coming here and broke the law by staying!  What happens when this weapon is placed in the hands of people who show no desire whatsoever to assimilate into American culture; people who show disdain for our language and our customs; people who wave flags of their homeland instead of the banner of the United States as they demonstrate for their undeserved amnesty?

President Bush says that the " vast majority of illegal immigrants are decent people."  Sorry, Mr. President.  They're criminals.  Criminals are not generally regarded as decent people, except perhaps by politicians.  The decent people you speak of are the ones still in Mexico, still in Guatemala, still in Honduras and Colombia.  The decent people are the ones who visit the American embassy or consulate to begin the arduous task of applying for permission .... legal permission to enter the United States.  The decent people, Mr. President,  wait patiently day after day for that magical notice to arrive from U.S. officials telling them that the American people await their arrival as legal, law abiding new neighbors.

Never in my 37 years of talk radio have I seen a time when the politicians inside the beltway have been so completely and thoroughly out of touch with the American people.  Eight out of ten Americans want the border between the U.S. and Mexico sealed.  These Americans have somehow developed the attitude that the people they send to Washington to make decisions related to our national security have some sort of a duty to recognize an invasion when it is happening, and to take steps to stop it.  They don't want Bush's "comprehensive" approach.  They want a direct, focused approach.  Criminals are pouring across our borders, and they want it stopped.  Now. These Americans do not want amnesty for those who have wantonly and brazenly ignored our laws.

The House Republican leadership is talking a tough game right now.  No amnesty.  No guest worker program.  But ... right now that's all it is.  Talk.  If Speaker Hastert and Majority Leader Boehner want to insure that Nancy Pelosi will occupy the Speaker's office come next January all they have to do is cave in to Bush and the Senate with a comprehensive plan embracing anything that looks, smells or tastes like amnesty.  I think I have some sort of a sense of what people are fired up about, and believe me, this issue has people burning mad.

THE ATLANTA FAIR TAX RALLY.  I REALLY HAD NO IDEA

At the bottom of this page, nestled into the reading assignments Right here, you'll find a link to the FairTax Rally Video! [48MB wmv]  This video was created by our friend Craig "Psycho" Carden, and it is a wonderful piece of work.  Last night I finally had a chance to sit down and watch it.  It's easy if you have a high-speed Internet connection.  It may take you a while on dial-up.  At any rate, I just sat there dumfounded, and not a little embarrassed.  The beginning of Craig's video showed the immense preparation that went into the staging and production of the rally.  You see the truck from In Concert Productions rolling up to the ramp ... the massive amounts of equipment being unloaded and prepared ... the work done by our own staff.  Really, I just had no idea.  All I did was get there about 45 minutes before the rally began and then run my mouth with some dear friends for another 90 minutes.  So --- after watching Craig's video (something I hope you will also do) --- I feel the need once again to say thanks to the people behind the scenes.  To the incredible technicians at In Concert Productions.   You've been at this for 25 years, and it shows.  These people, by the way, have volunteered to come down to Orlando for another rally if we get one put together!  I also want to thank Banks & Shane again.  They have now made a studio recording of Paul Shane's FairTax Song [streaming audio clip] and it will be available for download right here right soon.  And a special thanks to the people here at News-Talk 750 WSB who worked so goll-durned hard to make this thing work so well.  Neil Williamson, Michael Dobson, Condace Pressley, Alex "Mad Dog" Shapiro, Belinda and Royal, and the rest of the staff.  Thanks, folks.  After watching Craig's video last night I am once again overwhelmed by what you made happen. More rally re-cap here.

NEW YORK'S  ARROGANCE

By now I'm sure you have heard that there is no small amount of angst over plans by the Homeland Security Secretariat to reduce by some amount the flow of anti-terrorism funds into New York City in favor of some other locations in the country.  Now ... bear this in mind:  New York City will still get more anti-terrorism funds than any other state or local government entity in the nation.  It's just that for those in New York City, it's not enough.

There are people in Europe who think that once they've hopped on a plane, flown across the ocean, and spent three days in New York City, they've seen America.  Sadly, there are quite a few people in New York who would agree with them.  To them America disappears when you travel more than 30 miles from Times Square.

Charles Schumer .. heard of him?  He's New York's senior senator.  He is spitting fire over the diversion of some anti-terrorism funds to POTNY ... Places Other Than New York.  When he discovered that some of those funds would be channeled to Georgia he had this little gem of a quote:

"Other states that have very little problems got an increase, Georgia got a 40 percent increase. Somehow this administration thinks that Georgia peanut farmers are more at risk than the Empire State Building. Something is dramatically wrong."

So ... there you go.  Georgia is all about peanut farmers.  Yankee arrogance and stupidity rears its head yet again.  So, not that he'll ever hear it, I have a little message for Senator Schumer:

Senator.  First of all, the money is allocated to the City of Atlanta, not to the State of Georgia.  Last time I checked there were no peanut farmers in Atlanta, though you will find peanuts at Atlanta Braves Baseball games.  The Braves, senator.  Perhaps you've heard of them.  Your Mets have finished the last 14 seasons sniffing the Braves' hind quarters.  We also have an airport in Atlanta, Senator Schumer.  Perhaps you've heard of Hartsfield International Airport?  Do we need to remind you that the terrorist attacks of 9/11 were launched from busy airports?  Well, ours is the busiest.  Hartsfield is busier than LaGuardia and busier than Kennedy.  Prettier too, with friendlier people.   In fact, Hartsfield is busier than any other airport anywhere in the world.  This ain't peanuts, senator.  Airports need to be watched and protected, and the largest in the world could very well need more attention than it's getting right now.  Something else, Senator Schumer.  You do know that terrorists might use biological weapons, don't you?  Ever heard of the CDC?  The Centers for Disease Control?  The CDC is here in Atlanta.  You'll find it right in the middle of a peanut field just two miles east of downtown.  Just where do you think much of the important research in bio-terrorism is being handled?  That's right, the CDC.  I don't know if the CDC does any work on peanut allergies.  Perhaps you could have one of your staffers check on that.  Get back to us on that one, will you?  Oh, and by the way ... we have tall buildings in Atlanta too, senator.  And they're not peanut storage facilities.  They house the offices of many of the nation's Fortune 500 companies.  Some of them are even tall enough to have elevators.  I'm not in the apology game, Senator Schumer, so I'm not asking for one from you.  I did just want to point out that you did an exemplary job of showing your ass with that statement about Georgia and peanut farmers.  Thanks for fortifying the image that so many Americans have of people from New York.

TAX RETURN 24,000 PAGES LONG

General Electric, one of the largest corporations in the world that produces everything from refrigerators to aircraft engines to locomotives, filed their tax return this month.  Pretty boring news, actually...until you read the details: it was 24,000 pages long.  To give you a little perspective, 'War and Peace' is only 1,424 pages long. The full line of Atlanta telephone books is only 5,288 pages long.  So that's one big tax return. Do you have any idea how much it must have cost GE in terms of man-hours and direct expenses to prepare this 24,000 page tax return?  GE is only one of millions of American corporations saddled with this burden year after year ... an every penny of the cost they incur is passed right down the line to the people who consume their products in the market place.  Every penny.

Now imagine a world where GE's tax return and your tax return would be zero pages long.  In fact, there would be no tax return.  There would be no IRS.  There would be no withholding.  You don't have to imagine it...the plan is here now.  It's called the Fair Tax.  The plan is simple: the income tax is replaced by a national sales tax.  You only pay it when you buy something.

Now that may sound like pie in the sky to a lot of you.  But remember: throughout history, Americans do the same thing over and over and over again...just because that's the way they've always done it.  It's only until someone stands up and says 'enough' do things change.  The habit of filling out tax returns every April 15 isn't enough to justify the practice.

Not to mention the hours wasted filling out those forms.  If you itemize at all, you know what I'm talking about.

PANDERING FOR THE ANTI-GAY VOTE

No matter what poll you go by, President Bush's approval rating is in the toilet...bad. 29%? 30%? 33%? Whatever. Not good. Reasons for the low approval ratings are many: illegal aliens,  the war in Iraq, gas prices and so on. So with all of that on their plate, including this business with Iran...what does the Bush Administration decide is a priority?

Drum roll please .... fire off the confetti cannons!   The president's new gem of an idea is ..... TA DA!   .....  A Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage!  Oh boy...just that the country needs.  It's time to drag this dead horse out of the barn and  beat it some more.  So what's the agenda here?  Well, this would appear to be a way to "shore up the base."  You see, conservative voters are leaving the GOP behind...mainly because President Bush is doing nothing about the Mexican invasion.

So now we have Karl Rove and company deciding that the way to get people to the polls is to propose a Constitutional amendment that will never be passed. But that doesn't matter...the goal isn't the passage of anything.  It's to draw the Democrats into an argument and divert attention from other issues.  But beyond that, what about the idea itself?

Don't gay people vote?  Aren't there gay Republicans?  Doesn't the GOP need every vote they can get these days?  Apparently not.  president Bush is scheduled to being pushing the amendment on Monday.  What a complete and total waste of time.

CHOCOLATE CITY MAYOR PASSES THE BUCK

New Orleans Mayor Ray 'Chocolate City' Nagin won re-election recently and was inaugurated yesterday again. Actually, they have quite the little ceremony down there for the mayor.  He rode through town in a horse-drawn carriage surrounded by Mardi Gras dancers and a brass band.  Such largess for a rebuilding city!  Once he arrived at the podium and began to make his speech, he said some interesting things.

He started berating his own citizenry for being too lazy and not rebuilding New Orleans fast enough.  Said Nagin: "This is The Big Easy, and sometimes we lay back a little too much.  Get off your duffs.  Control your own destiny...we can do this."  Oh my....is this a Democratic politician preaching self-reliance?  Unbelievable.

He went on to say residents shouldn't rely on government as much...and should work to rebuild the city themselves.  But isn't that what he said he was going to do when he was running for office?  I guess not.  Here's another question: if people are supposed to rebuild their own city, then why are we sending billions of federal taxpayer dollars to the area?

READING ASSIGNMENTS

A couple of Georgia events of interest this weekend: News/Talk 750 WSB's Scott Slade will be at the Embracing Life benefit for the Georgia Transplant Foundation June 3, Good Neighbor Day Air Show at Peachtree DeKalb Airport June 3 and Neal will be participating in the Ride For Kids starting at North Point Mall June 4.

A new videotape has surfaced from the BBC that allegedly shows more people being killed in the Haditha massacre than the military is currently admitting.  Actually, none of the investigations are complete yet...so perhaps the BBC should hold their horses.  Oh, and the video comes from an anti-Coalition Iraqi group.

Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11' movie could cost him a lot of money.
An soldier who lost his arm in Iraq is suing both Michael Moore and NBC for $175 million.  He says the movie misrepresents him as being against the war in Iraq.

CNN sent a reporter to visit an Islamic terrorist rocket factory,
where weapons that are used to kill innocent men, women and children are manufactured.  Notice there is no mention in CNN's article of Muslim, Islam or terrorist.

A New York Democrat is apologizing for saying President Bush should be shot between the eyes.
Evidently the apology is enough to keep the Secret Service from paying him a visit.

Wonder what things are like in North Korea and why Kim Jong-Il is such a maniac?  A file produced by Britain's intelligence service describes concentration camps that perform experiments on children.  This is taking place in 2006.

New York has lost tens of thousands of jobs since Hillary Clinton was elected Senator.  But that isn't stopping her from producing a campaign video promoting how she boosted the economy.

The McCain-Feingold campaign finance "reform" is nothing short of an all-out assault on the freedom of speech.  Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich explains.

Charles Krauthammer lets Barry Bonds have it...in an unusual departure from politics for the columnist.  Unlike Bonds' steroid use, he says Babe Ruth hit his home run record on hot dogs and beer.

Howard Dean's opposition to the gay marriage amendment is about as politically fruitless as President Bush's support of it.  David Limbaugh calls Dean's efforts fruitless.

The William Jefferson corruption investigation is just the latest in a long line of crooked Louisiana politicians.  Jonah Goldberg has a history lesson.
