THE DEMONIZATION OF ANN COULTER

I was reading Ann Coulter's "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," when all the hell broke loose last week.  At that point I had not reached the chapter which contained her comments on the 9/11 widows ... so I didn't see the firestorm coming.  Now we have Coulter being portrayed as an alien monster and elected officials demanding that her book be banned.

Did Ann Coulter go over the edge a bit with her comments about The Jersey Girls?  Possibly.  Rather than write that they were enjoying their husband's deaths in the Twin Towers, perhaps Coulter could have said that they were enjoying the attention they've been getting since the terrorist attacks.  That comment would have been certainly correct, and far less inflammatory.

The fact is that in her general comments about these 9/11 widows, Coulter got it essentially right.  The left most definitely has refined the technique of taking someone deserving of a great deal of public sympathy, and then turning that person into a propaganda machine for the left.  The obvious goal here is to create a spokesman that cannot be attacked ... one who's essentially bulletproof.  Cindy Sheehan certainly fits that bill.   The left would have us believe that to attack anything said by these people is off limits due to the suffering they have experienced.  We saw this very concept at work in the defense of Sheehan.

When you think about it, Hillary Clinton has even approached this bulletproof status in some ways. She's a woman, and she's a woman who has endured public humiliation at the hands of her philandering husband.  As such, some would say that she is beyond criticism.  We've seen examples-a-plenty where Hillary's critics have been criticized for saying such things about a woman, and a long-suffering loyal wife at that!

Back to Coulter's book.  I think it is brilliant.  Sure, I might not agree with her characterizations of the 9/11 widows, but the larger point she was making there was wholly valid.  Throughout the entire book Coulter does an excellent job of showing liberals for what they are.  It is one of the most effective and hard-hitting writings of the absurdities, inconsistencies, and outright lies of today's dominant liberal elite in this country.

That is why Ann Coulter must be destroyed!

What you saw last week .. and will see continue into this week ... is a driven attempt by the left in this country, and especially the leftist media, to so completely demonize Ann Coulter as to destroy here effectiveness as a writer and conservative pundit.  The focus will continue to be on this one portion of the book relating to the professional widows, without any commentary on the thousands of other very valid points she brought up.  Ann Coulter sells a hell of a lot of books.  There is no liberal writer out there who comes close, a point not lost on the left.

So, how far is the left willing to go in their efforts to destroy one of our best conservative writers?  Well, we now have two New Jersey Democrats (state legislators) who have announced that they want Coulter's books banned in New Jersey.  That's right.  Banned.  They weren't happy just to urge people not to buy the book, they actually want to use the police power of the New Jersey State Government to prevent the books from being sold in the first place!  This is America?  They're names, by the way, are Joan Quigley and Linda Stender.  We'll note that unless we have some rather odd family names at work here, they're both women.  These two ladies issued a press release last Friday that was carefully crafted to contain two dominant leftist trigger words.  In that release they said;

"Ann Coulter's criticism of 9-11 widows, whose only desire since the attacks have been to repair their shattered lives and protect other families from the horrors they have experienced, is motivated purely by petty greed and hate. ....  Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books . . . She is a leech trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others."

You got the two trigger words, didn't you?  "Greed" and "hate."  Remember, to a liberal, anyone who makes money in an endeavor frowned upon by liberals is "greedy" and any person who expresses an idea contrary to basic liberal dogma is preaching "hate."  How shallow these people are.

At any rate ... please don't let the left scare you off.  They've taken one paragraph from an excellent book and are using that section in an attempt to have Ann Coulter banished to some writer's leper colony on the dark side of the Moon.  Hopefully they're boosting sales, rather than hurting them.

WHY EVEN DIGNIFY THIS NONSENSE WITH A NEWS STORY?

An update on the al Zarqawi front is necessary, only because media coverage becomes more ridiculous with each passing day. We now understand that al Zarqawi was officially "alive" after the bombing of his safe house, even though we were initially told otherwise. This, of course, is because the media loves it when our military "lies" to us. Right.

At first I was a little disappointed the bastard didn't die immediately,  until I realized that I am glad he had the time to suffer and think about his own impending death ... just moments before joining his 72 "virgins."  Now he's finding out why they are virgins.

Now the story is that al Zarqawi "died as American soldiers were attempting to save his life." Whoa, wait let's back up the boat here! We were trying to save his life? Does anyone have a bit of a problem with this?  I mean ... truth be told. ... why would we try to save the life of an terrorist after we had just  burned up a few thousand dollars worth of kerosene to drop two expensive 500 pound bombs on his head?  OK ..  I understand that we have a duty to save innocent civilians-and the media was quick to tell us  that al Zarqawi's death came at the cost of innocent lives - but we were trying to save a mass murderer? "We were trying to save his life" makes a good story line, but I have my doubts.

Now we have the completely and totally predictable.  Someone -- an Iraqi -- has come forward to present the media with a supposed eye-witness account of our soldiers stomping poor al-Zarqawi to death after he survived the bombing.  So .. the story goes from "we were trying to save his life" to "those Americans stomped him to death.  Hogsnot.  Didn't happen.  There were Iraqi security forces on hand, plus civilians, and there is no way our guys are going to administer the coup des gras to this monster.  Let him die?  Possibly. Attack him and kill him while he's on a stretcher?  Hardly.  But the media, especially the foreign media, will play this for all it's worth!

By the way ... do the same liberal peace-at-any-price moonbats who wish Saddam were still in power in Iraq harbor the same kind thoughts about al Zarqawi?  Probably so, though it will be a while before they step up and admit it.

IT'S A TROPICAL STORM!  AND A WEAK ONE AT THAT!

You know, maybe I should suspend all discussion of all matters today that are not related in some way to that tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico.  It's a bunch of rain, folks, and not much else, but to watch CNN yesterday you would have thought that it was Katrina all over again.  You almost get the idea that some of these hurricane junkies in the media are sitting on the edge of their seats just waiting breathlessly for another monster storm to bear down on Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas ... anywhere!  Just bring it on!  Get those satellite trucks rolling!

Wait .. do I smell something here?  No ... couldn't be. OK, so this is an election year, but you don't think our fair, non-partisan, objective mainstream media could actually be hoping for another disaster they could use to embarrass Bush, do you?  After all ... another Katrina debacle and the Republicans could be finished!  Somehow the message was never adequately delivered that the two real culprits in Katrina were Democrats ... Nagin and Blanco.  What a surprise.

3 GITMO PRISONERS CHECK OUT

Get out your tiny violin....bad news is coming.  On Saturday, three Islamic terrorist suspects (or "inmates," as the media is calling them,) draped their turbans over their cell block bars, tied them around their neck and kicked away the stool.  Two Saudis and one Yemeni took their premature eternal desert sand dirt nap.  There's always a good side.  Imagine how much money we're going to save by not having to feed, clothe and keep them in fresh Korans.

But for some reason, some on the left are using this "tragedy" (uh-huh) as an excuse to criticize the United States.  Pennsylvania Senator and RINO Arlen Specter says we should put all of the enemy combatants on trial.  Great...and once they're acquitted, we'll send them all to Arlen's house.  He can keep tabs on these psycho killers.  And then our good friend Amnesty International weighed in.  You see, they're no fan of our terrorist prison at Gitmo.

They're actually blaming the Bush Administration for the deaths of the three who killed themselves.  That's right...our policy made them do it.  So just who were these three innocent Muslims that took their lives?  Let's run it down.  There was Ali Abdullah Ahmed, a mid-to-high level Al-Qaeda strategist.  Then we have Mani Shaman Turki al-Habardi Al-Utaybi (that's really his name) who was a member of a group that recruited for Al-Qaeda.  And last but not least, hanging off the rafters was Yassar Talal al-Zahrani.  He was a front-line Taliban fighter...and helped that group get weapons.  Sounds like three innocent people to me.

So why did they kill themselves?  Evidently a rumor had spread that if three detainees killed themselves, the prison would be shut down.  That's what you call bad information.  Aren't those virgins about used up by now?

MORE OF THIS HATE CRIMES BUSINESS

Saturday morning in Manhattan, a singer named Kevin Aviance was jumped and badly beaten by a group of 6 or 7 people ages 16-20.   Aviance suffered a broken jaw and other injuries and is expected to be released from the hospital today.  An unfortunate incident to be sure...so why is it news?

Well, you see, Aviance is gay...and his attackers evidently shouted anti-gay slurs as they beat him up.  So far four of them have been charged in the incident.  Absolutely. throw the book at these scumbags to the fullest extent of the law.  But what they're being charged with...hate crimes...is the wrong way to go about it.

It's a pretty good bet that anyone beating you up already hates you.  What these lowlifes are being charged for is what they were thinking during the commission of the crime and what they're opinion of gay people was.  Where does that end?  Should we just start arresting people because they don't like one group or another, or because they say mean things about them?  That's what hate crimes laws do...they criminalize thought, which is a slippery slope.  Hate crimes are thought crimes.

Not that anyone should have any sympathy for these losers. Here's hoping they do hard time in prison with Bubba the biker.

HADITHA MARINE SAYS NO MASSACRE

Amidst all the hysteria over the Haditha "massacre" in Iraq last November, you knew sooner or later the other side of the story was going to come out.  Up to this point, all we've had is the John Murtha version....that a handful of Marines executed 14 or 15 Iraqi civilians...some of them women and children.  That's a serious accusation...and investigations are ongoing.  But now we're hearing from one of the guys that was there.

A sergeant in charge of a squad of Marines in Haditha puts it plainly: his unit did not intentionally target civilians, the military rules of engagement were followed and the Marines did not try to cover up the shootings.  This according to the attorney of Staff Sergeant Frank D. Wuterich.  He says the Marines were going house-to-house after insurgents were firing at them from inside one of those houses.  The bottom line: "clearing" the houses...that is neutralizing any threat...was part of the rules of engagement.  Some innocent people may have died...but that doesn't pertain to whether or not these Marines did their job.

If it winds up being that all of these civilians killed were innocent...and there were no insurgents, then it still doesn't matter.  If the Marines had reason to believe they were in there and they followed the rules of engagement...there was no wrongdoing.  But that doesn't matter to an  ultra-leftist like John Murtha and the rest of the mainstream media.  To them, they've found their anti-war cause...and they're sticking to it.  The fact that these Marines have been tried, convicted and sentenced in the press doesn't matter.

YOUR CHERISHED READING ASSIGNMENTS

Now here we have a story about some Islamic courts ordering movie theatres shut down and barring people from watching the World Cup soccer games.  These Joint Islamic Courts had gunmen in the streets ready to punish anyone caught watching.  OK .. so you think that's a fine example of Islamic extremism?  Well .. do you remember those police officers in Oklahoma City a few years who broke into a mans house because they found out he had rented a copy of ____ from the local Blockbusters?  they actually yanked the offending video out of this man's VCR.  This they did on a court order.  Now ... tell me the real essential difference between the two.

Have you heard about "Operation Coackroach?"  Our friend Michael Adams of the University of North Carolina Wilmington has started a campaign to expose the unprincipled college administrators who kowtow to the forces of political correctness and work to bury conservative thought at their institutions of "higher" learning.
We haven't heard too much lately from that prosecutor over in Durham, North Carolina
about the supposed rape involving Duke students.  Perhaps it's because his case is falling apart.

Did Saddam Hussein have any link to terrorism?  You betcha
...and documents seized when Baghdad was toppled are still being translated and made public.  They tell they story.

Things aren't looking good for The Hildabeast in an Iowa straw poll.  She came in second....behind John Edwards.  That's right...#2 behind a name nobody's heard in almost 2 years.

A recently translated 2002 memo says Iraq's weapons of mass destruction were put into a shipping container and buried in concrete near an Iraqi village.  Sounds like somebody should go have a look.

According to a published report over the weekend, Zarqawi was training terrorists for an attack that would top 9/11 in scope.  And now he's dead.  Why again do some people think his departure is not good news?

Michael Barone says you need look no further than some Democrats' response to the killing of Zarqawi to find out why the left can't seem to win a lot of elections these days.

Mark Steyn checks in to remind all of the bedwetting liberal pantywaists
that we are currently fighting a War On Terror, and that's why things are getting blown up and people are killed.  But there is progress to report.

Members of Congress found out from the voters back at home that they were none too happy about some Republicans opposing the search of William Jefferson's office.  Robert Novak reports that the Speaker of the House is still dealing with the aftermath of his comments.

The new prime minister in Iraq is all worked up about this Haditha business.  But Diana West says he's really missing the point...as in there are more important things to worry about in Iraq.

Islamic "martyrs" may be disappointed in the afterlife if 72 virgins is really a mistranslation.

Hey, I bet after watching this you'll never make the mistake of eating Mentos while drinking Diet Coke.
