POLICE NOT HAPPY OVER MCKINNEY

The recent decision by a grand jury to let Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney off the hook for punching a cop is not going over well with the rank and file.  In fact, the labor union for the Capitol Hill Police is calling on the ethics committee to review her conduct and take action.  What will they do?  Well, let's look at the facts.

Cynthia McKinney decided to bypass the Capitol Hill security checkpoint.  This is common for members of Congress.  But she had none of the identifying features of a member of Congress.  For example, the pin they are told to wear.  What's worse, she had recently altered her hairstyle and looked nothing like the official picture they keep at the checkpoint just for her ... since she's proven to be so much of a problem in the past.

So, in a post 9-11 world, a Capitol Hill Police officer told her to stop and she she didn't, put his arm on her.  Now at this point, Cynthia McKinney had a choice.  She could have announced she was a member of Congress and produced identification.  She would have been on her way and we would have never heard anything about it.   But that's not what happened.

McKinney chose to ball up her fist and strike the police officer.  Had that been you or me, at that point we would be laying on the floor convulsing from the shock of the Taser gun.  But not McKinney.  She went on her merry way.  And now she's getting away with it, at least so far.

But the house ethics committee could step up and make things right.  They could, but they won't.  McKinney is so adept and practiced at yelling racism at every slight that nobody is going to take her on.  Not the grand jury .. and certainly not the ethics committee.

Our saving grace here is that Cynthia McKinney will continue to be Cynthia McKinney .. only now she'll feel emboldened.  It's only a matter of time before she steps in it again.

TROUBLE IN THE CHOCOLATE CITY

Have you EVER heard of the National Guard being sent to a city almost 10 months after a hurricane to restore order?  Of course not .. but then this is New Orleans. 

The guard was sent  in response to six murders over the weekend.  Five  teenagers were shot and killed in an SUV, apparently over drugs or something important like who's rap start has tighter braids .  Another man was stabbed to death over beer.   So the mayor had it...and realizing the police were overwhelmed, asked for help.  Probably not a bad idea considering the circumstances.  In fact, this could be one of the few right things Nagin has done while in office.

But how about the irony of liberal Democrats admitting they have no control over their population?  All of a sudden, you have politicians on the left calling for law and order...priceless.  Gone is the talk of crime being caused by poverty or some other social ill being forced on society by the Bush Administration.  That's another thing...nowhere in Nagin's request for the National Guard did he blame the lawlessness on George W. Bush, although I'm sure that's coming.

So the troops are back in the Chocolate City....it would seem the recovery from Katrina is further off still.

THE DEMOCRATS' INCONVENIENT TRUTH

Two years from now we will be deep into the 2008 presidential campaign with the nominees of both parties all but set in stone.  The favorite for the Democrats is New York Senator and former First Lady Hillary Clinton.  Actually, not only is she the favorite...she's almost considered the only hope for the left to win in '08. 

But the numbers aren't good.  A new CNN poll released yesterday has some interesting information.  People were asked who they would definitely vote for or definitely vote against.  47%...almost half....said they would definitely vote against Hillary Clinton.  Those are very high negative numbers.  Several months of negative advertising would no doubt make that number even higher.  Bad news for The Hildabeast.  So what are the Democrats going to do?

Well, there's always Al Gore.  After all, he won two elections on a national ticket and came very close in 2000 to becoming the 43rd president of the United States.  But he's no good either.  In fact, even more said they would definitely vote against Gore...48%.  Well, if not Gore..then how about The Poodle?  John Kerry had a respectable showing in 2004.  Nope...47% said they would definitely vote against him too, same as The Hildabeast.

As for Republicans, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani did much better.  McCain was at 34% and Rudy 30%.  The only person to do worse than anyone was Jeb Bush...63% said they would definitely vote against him.  The irony here is that Jeb Bush has been a damned good Florida Governor, and would probably make a very good president.  We'll probably never know. He might want to wait 2008 out.

LISTEN TO THE LEFT

We're being told this morning that those two U.S. soldiers who were kidnapped by Islamic jihadists have been found dead.  Apparently they were killed by their Iraqi captors.

Now ... listen to the left.  Listen to the people who are always so quick to condemn our country and our men and women in uniform for their so-called human rights violations.  Let's see if any of these grand and glorious defenders of human rights step forth and condemn the Islamic Jihadists for murdering two American soldiers in their custody.  Yeah ... we're waiting for that one.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

With North Korea threatening to test a long-range missile, the Pentagon has activated its ground-based interceptor missile defense system.  The system is located in Alaska and California and would be used to shoot down North Korea's missile.  Then, hopefully other missiles would be used to turn the communist country into a parking lot.

Former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is actually blaming Iran and North Korea's pursuit of nuclear weapons on the Bush Administration's invasion of Iraq.  Perhaps she has a short memory...North Korea was pursuing nuclear weapons during her administration, and it even continued to do so after she made a visit there.

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, facing a Democratic primary challenge back home, says he's proud to work with Republicans and that Washington bas become too partisan.  It's a shame when one of the few reasonable Democrats in the Senate can't even exist in his own party.

Connie Chung, fired for the umpteenth time by a network, had a bizarre sign-off from MSNBC over the weekend. She did her own version of 'Thanks For The Memories.'  You can watch it here.

The trial of Saddam Hussein is winding down with the prosecution demanding the death penalty for the deposed Iraqi dictator.  Here's the question everybody wants answered: will the execution be televised? 

Democrats are banking on Iraq still being a big issue for them in 2008...but what happens if Iraq is all buttoned up by then?  Jack Kelly says the left can't wait for the United States to lose there...so they can run on the issue.

In today's column, Professor Mike Adams writes a letter to Circuit City...upset that they're stocking more Latin music than country music. But he goes further than that....specifically articulating which titles they should carry.

Why are liberals more worried about global warming than conservatives?  Dennis Prager has some explanations, the first of which is that the left is simply more prone to hysteria than the right.

We're winning the war in Iraq, yet Democrats still can't stop talking about cutting and running.  David Limbaugh goes even further, though...he says we've been winning the war in Iraq all along.

The pivotal mid-term elections are just over four months away and the pundits are saying Iraq is going to be the central issue.   With that in mind, Frank Gaffney says it's time for an Iraq war truth squad.

Just what we need.  A code of ethics for machines.  Our own Georgia Tech is involved in this.
