WHOLEHEARTED SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL

Israeli troops have now moved into Gaza in an effort to rescue an Israeli soldier kidnapped by Islamic jihadists several days ago.  Israel will no doubt be condemned for this move --- but not here.  For what little bit it's worth, I wish to congratulate Israel for their actions .. and wish them the best of luck in both rescuing their soldier and in tracking down and killing as many Islamic murderers they can.    There is no way the so-called "Palestinians" (remember, Yasser Arafat was an Egyptian) will ever let Israel exist in peace until they are on the verge of being utterly destroyed.

Today's vocabulary lesson:

"Terrorism" is only one-half a word.  The first half is "Islamic."

THE NEW YORK TIMES

There is much discussion this week over a New York Times article that disclosed a secret project in which U.S. intelligence officials were tracking certain financial databases to detect the movement of funds supporting Islamic terrorism.  Concerns have been raised in the intelligence community that the Times report has damaged, perhaps fatally, the data-mining program.  Islamic jihadists may now look for other ways to move their funds from place to place.

One interesting point here.  Several years ago the Times actually ran an editorial suggesting that the government institute a project to track financial transactions worldwide that might reveal the flow of Islamic terrorist funds.  Isn't it rather odd that the Times would now disclose that program and negate its effectiveness?

Did the Times report damage our efforts to fight Islamic terrorism?  No doubt it did.  But do the editors and publishers of The New York Times care?  No, they do not.  Their goal is to destroy George Bush and to see to it that Democrats are returned to power in Washington, not to give any sense at all that they are actually on the side of the United States or its people in the fight against the vicious and bloodthirsty Islamic maniacs.

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION SAFE .... FOR NOW

The headline on foxnews.com this morning read "First Amendment Lives Another Day."  Well put.  The so-called "Flag burning" amendment to our Constitution has failed ... by one vote.  Freedom wins ... by one vote.

Get down on your knees and thank God or Allah or whom ever is politically correct to worship these days; the flag burning amendment failed in the Senate! The scary part, folks, is that it failed by just one vote. One vote! That means sixty-six of our Senators (out of 100)
voted in favor of an amendment that would limit your right to freedom of expression. Sixty-four Senators wanted to use the United States Constitution to limit your freedoms, rather than to limit the range of government power.

The three key Republican "nay" notes went to Robert Bennett of Utah, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Lincoln Chaffee of Rhode Island. While their heads may be on the chopping block come November, at least there seems to be a few politicians who are voting based on reason rather than re-election.

The New York Times astutely points out that this was a close call, but there is no need to worry about future votes because "...most analysts expect Republicans to lose Senate seats in the November election." Most analysts? Could the New York Times, the "godfather" of print journalism, not be any more specific? Maybe they were too busy printing top-secret stories about how we track terrorists. Go figure.

So why do politicians keep coming back to this issue?  Well, for one, it's very popular.  Poll after poll shows that the idea of a flag-burning  amendment is popular. That's not surprising in this age when so many Americans has lost their love of true freedom.  The same polls also show that an amendment banning gay marriage would be a good idea, even though both ideas are terrible.  But it's a cheap and easy way for politicians to change the subject in Washington and start debating.  It's another way for them to look like they're doing something.

But they'll never give up.  The lure of political pandering is far too great.

SENATOR WANTS TO TAX HOOKERS

Iowa Senator Charles Grassley has decided, in his infinite wisdom, that the answer to getting rid of the sex trade is to tax it.  As his theory goes, if you tax hooks and pimps, they'll be so out of money that they will cease the behavior of selling sex.  Dream on, Senator.  Is this what this man was sent to Washington to do?  Figure out a way to tax hookers?  First of all, on what planet does Grassley live that he thinks hookers and pimps are going to voluntarily hand over a large chunk of their earnings?  Second, his plan to jail those who don't pay...how is that going to work?  How is the IRS going to know how much they earned?  Are johns going to start issuing 1099 to their call girls?

If Grassley is so intent on taxing hookers, how about decriminalizing prostitution in the first place?  Make 'em pay for a license!  And don't give me this morals nonsense.  Hookers could not possibly be a greater blight on our society than politicians.

This just points out the further need for the Fair Tax.  Once the power to screw around with the tax code is essentially removed from politicians' hands, then they won't have the ability to decide what behavior should be taxed and what shouldn't.  It's not their decision and under the Fair Tax plan, it won't be. Grassley wants to waste $2 million of taxpayer money on an IRS office to prosecute sex workers for violating tax laws.

And here's something else: under the Fair Tax plan, everybody would pay.  So even when pimps and prostitutes bought something, they would cough up their share of the tax.  Besides, governments have been trying to shut down the sex trade for centuries. It is, as they say, the oldest profession.   Well ... maybe the second oldest.  There's always the tax collector.

AP GETS CAUGHT ON GLOBAL WARMING

Somebody at the Associated Press named Seth Borenstein, identified as the AP's "science writer," wrote an article stating that scientists have OK'd Al Gore's global warming movie for accuracy.  According to Borenstein, the 19 climate scientists he asked agreed Gore got it right.  But the headline didn't say '19 climate scientists OK Gore's movie."  It just said "scientists," implying...well, pretty much everybody.

But you see...in this day and age, news travels quickly.  And somebody was watching the wires...and decided to take on the AP.  That somebody turned out to be the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works.  They have called into question a number of the AP's "facts" about global warming, including:

The article ignored "scores" (a score is 20, for those of you fresh out of government school) of scientists that have criticized the Gore movie.

The committee also notes that the AP article fails to list all 19 climate scientists sourced for the piece, nor do they disclose the 100 top climate researches mentioned in Borenstein's article.

Gore's movie relies on the "hockey stick" graph that allegedly shows temperatures were stable for 900 years, then spiked in the 20th century.  That theory has been completely discredited.

The rebuttal goes on and on.  So once again, the AP has been caught with their hand in the cookie jar...this time all the way up to their elbow.   What they don't want to admit is that global warming is a theory....and a theory not supported by all scientists.  The debate is nowhere near being over.

Remember ... global warming is not an environmental issue.  It's a political issue.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

I'd argue that a mechanical bull by definition is redneck...but this is even more redneck if you can imagine such a thing. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Michelle Malkin uncorks on the New York Times over their disclosure
of the secret terrorist finance tracking program.  Malkin points out that this isn't the first time this has happened.

According to a survey of 34 countries, America is the most patriotic.  In all 10 categories measured, the United States rated #1.  And you'll never guess who #2 was.....Venezuela.

Al Gore is now saying President Bush broke the law
...evidently in his handling of the war on terror.  He is accusing the Republican Congress of being corrupt and not holding Bush accountable...which, of course, is the code word for impeachment.

Here's a nightmare for the Democrats: George W. Bush's approval rating keeps rising
...this time up by 5%.  This makes it all the more likely Republican voters will head to the polls this fall...and deny Democrats their planned takeover of the Congress.

Howard Dean says hiking the minimum wage won't hurt jobs.  What then does Mr. Dean have to say about the fact that every minimum wage hike so far has killed jobs?

Did you know that President Franklin Roosevelt considered trying the publisher of the Chicago Tribune for treason for disclosing secrets during wartime?  Jack Kelly says President Bush should actually welcome a fight with the media.

Ralph Peters points out that if you listen to the mainstream media and the Democrats, we may as well just hang the Marines involved in the Haditha incident right now. You know, to save the effort and expense of having a trial and get it over with.

To win a victory in Iraq and bring the conflict to an end, Tony Blankley says President Bush should go back in time and read the farewell speech of General Douglas MacArthur.  There he will find some good advice.

For those who oppose the war in Iraq with all of their might and convictions, columnist Christopher Hitchens has four projects for them to do. This should keep the bedwetting terrorist appeasers busy this summer.

John Stossel reports today on a ridiculous claim by the EEOC
...the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission of the federal government.  They're saying that the fact that Hooters...the restaurant chain....is discriminating by only hiring women.

Jonathan Gurwitz writes that multiculturalism is dead.  Let's hope he's right. This absurd idea should have been tango uniform 20 years ago.

What do women & men order most in restaurants? You might be surprised by the answers.
