Right now, the general consensus is that illegal immigration is out of
control. Border states like California and New Mexico are bearing the brunt
of the huge influx. The costs come in crime, welfare benefits and the
possibility of terrorism. We now have a new study today tells us just how
bad the problem is.According to the Pew Hispanic Center (who knew Pew had a Hispanic Center?) there are between 11.5 and 12 million illegal aliens in the United States right now. And what's worse...the number is increasing by 500,000 a year. So where is the problem coming from? Many will tell you it's simple supply and demand. The market needs cheap labor that will do (in George Bush's words) jobs Americans won't. Because those jobs are going unfilled, half a million Mexicans are streaming across the border every year. Wrong. The reason there is so much illegal immigration is because the government of the United States of America looks the other way. We don't do anything about it. Both Republicans and Democrats know that their future election victories may well depend on the Hispanic vote. Hispanic voters are already in the majority in many areas of the country. The fear is that Hispanic citizens will be turned off by any attempt to shut down this flood of illegals across our border, and will withhold their votes. Political power is everything; the be all and end all of all government policies. So, the border patrol is denied resources to do their job. We cave like we were French when it comes to building a wall along the border. We simply let them in. So it's no surprise that we have illegal immigration to the extent that we do. We practically roll out the red carpet for illegals. So what can be done? As long as the current Republican and Democratic parties remain in power, not much. Neither seemingly has the will to stand up and do anything about it. What would be wrong with simply rounding up illegals and shipping them back to Tijuana? Nothing. Even stepping up border security and immediately deporting illegal aliens might put a dent in the surge. But as long as this current crop of politicians are running the show, it will never happen. But hey...in the meantime, you can get a good deal on landscaping! So long as this continues there's not a safe place for a decent pine needle to hide anywhere in this country. It might also be a good time to buy stock in a company that sells ladders. We learn today that some Democrats closely allied by Hillary are going to start a private firm that will compile what is described as huge amounts of data on Americans. The purpose? To identify Americans who might be inclined to vote Democratic. The operation will be led by Harold Ickes ... a primary Clinton dog washer of past years and current Hillary advisor. The private for-profit company will be called Data Warehouse, and it will sell the information it gathers to politically active unions and to special interest groups; Moveon.org, for instance. What kind of information will Icke's company collect? Well, voting records, of course. Those are government records and easily retrieved, though it is expensive. They will also be collecting information from consumer research groups. This will include what magazines you subscribe to. Do you own a gun? Icke's database will show that too, as well as what church you go to, how much money you make and who you give it to, and how you vote. Pretty strong stuff, isn't it? Hold on though ... before you go off like a bottle rocket about this effort by Hillary's handlers to amass this information for her presidential run, know this. The Republicans have been and are doing the same thing ... and they have been for years. This is why the these Democrats are cranking up this effort. They need to catch up! They're afraid that the Republicans are way ahead. I just thought you might like to remember all this the next time you pull out a preferred customer card at some drug or grocery store. Those stores maintain a computer database under your name. Is is being sold? The next time you get a call from some solicitor pushing a particular political cause or candidate, do they know what type of breakfast cereal you eat? Privacy? What privacy?
Yesterday the news channels were chock full of stories about the problems faced by Tom DeLay in his primary in Texas yesterday. You could almost hear the glee in the voices of the newscasters and reporters. DeLay is in trouble. He most likely will face a runoff, and could well lose his own primary! The era of The Hammer is over. Oops. It seems that Tom DeLay won 62% of the primary vote yesterday. Now the media is pinning its hopes on the fact that this is the first time that DeLay has ever won a primary by less than 80% of the vote. Well ... I guess you need something to hang on to.
REDNECK SCRAP BOOK Hottest tattoo ever! You know that baby is going to be so proud of his/her momma. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.
Hillary Clinton's statement that she didn't know about Bill's Dubai deals is just the latest thing she didn't know about her own husband. Dick Morris says it's just the way the Clintons do things...and have for years. What's the Democratic party's biggest nightmare in 2008? Dr. Walter E. Williams says it's Condoleezza Rice running for president. She would siphon off guaranteed black votes the left is used to getting. That sure would make things interesting, wouldn't it? John Stossel of ABC's 20/20 has been taking on teacher's unions the past couple years...pointing out that school choice is a good thing. But now, Stossel says the teacher's unions are really mad at him. Isn't that a shame. By the way, I still stand by my statement that in the long run, teacher's unions present more of a threat to the future of this country than do Islamic radicals. The schools in New Orleans are getting back to normal...and that's actually bad news. The schools were terrible pre-Katrina...and the teacher's unions are no help at all. Big surprise there, right? Here comes the smack down: the House is lining up to kill the Dubai Ports World takeover of several of our ports. Will they have the votes to override a presidential veto? Conventional wisdom says Republicans will probably hold onto the House this fall. But a pesky little problem is beginning to emerge, as Jay Cost reports. Some Republicans are retiring...creating open seats. Not only does the mainstream media rarely use the phrase "Islamic terrorist," they actually cover for the terrorists. As Tony Blankley points out, they rarely point out radical Islamic events. The media continues to promote the big lie that there is nothing good happening in Iraq. Ralph Peters has some positive news from Iraq today...in a column he calls 'Iraq: The Untold Truths.' Check it out. The U.S. Supreme Court recently shot down a case that claimed oil companies were colluding to set prices and keep the cost of gas high. Thomas Sowell wonders if this will be brought up the next time people demonize the oil companies. A Mesa, Arizona deputy fire chief is on leave after being discovered in his next-door neighbor's barn with his pants down. It wouldn't have been so bad, except he was in the company of said neighbor's lamb. You know, like a sheep. | ||
