AMAZING DEMOCRATS

There is certainly no shortage of things to complain about when it comes to the Republican Party.  There is very little, if any, resemblance of the congressional Republicans of 2006 as compared to the Republicans who took control of the House of Representatives in 1994.  Gone is the revolutionary zeal to reduce the power, influence and size of government and to return power and responsibility to the people.  The Republicans of 1994 have been largely replaced by a party of big government and big spending.

Some are suggesting that the Republicans may lose their control of the House of Representatives in this year's mid-term elections.  That would be absolutely fine with me.  They have done little to deserve the majority position they hold.  If it weren't for tax cuts and their support of the war on Islamic radicalism there would be not much to say in their favor.  I say that it would be fine with me if the Republicans were unseated --- except for one small matter.  They would be replaced by Democrats.

Some of you might have lost track of this fact, but this country, our culture, our very Western civilization is at war.  There are people out there -- a lot of people -- who are dedicated to our destruction.  They have the determination to carry their plans forward, and the means to do terrible damage to all that we hold dear.  Right now, as you're reading this, there are some very bright minds that are darkened by the culture of hate and violence that is radical Islam who are spending every waking hour, and every resource available to them, planning for further attacks on America and the West.  We know that they want their next attack to be a real extravaganza.  They want thousands -- tens of thousands -- hundreds of thousands dead if they can find a way to make it happen.  In one corner of the Muslim world they may be working on a dirty radiation bomb; in another they're trying to acquire an actual thermonuclear device.  Somewhere else these Muslim maniacs are trying to develop delivery systems for the chemical and biological weapons that are already within their grasp.  Somewhere, most likely in Syria, there are stockpiles of the chemicals and equipment necessary to manufacture these weapons -- brought there from Iraq and hidden when Saddam's days appeared to be numbered.

Whatever else you say about George Bush, he gets absolute credit for his determination to fight the Islamic jihad.  Bush was the one occupying the Oval Office when word came of the 9/11 attacks.  At that moment he knew that if anyone was to lead a battle against these fanatic Islamic murderers it would have to be him.  This turned out to be the most important task he would face as president, and he has more than measured up.

Others may disagree, but there is not one ounce of doubt in my mind that if Saddam Hussein had been left to his own devices by now he would have reconstituted his chemical and biological weapons program and would present an even graver threat to our national security.  There is and was more than ample evidence of Saddam's quest for nuclear weapons.  How far along would he be with that goal today?  And, though the left absolutely hates to hear this, there was and is proof of Saddam's connections to Al Qaeda and to Osama bin Laden.  Saddam is no longer a threat.  Would that be true today if Al Gore had been in the White House?

We're at war.  George Bush is our Commander in Chief.  To the people of other nations George Bush is the face of our war against Islamic terrorism.  In large part how the world views our efforts to contain Islamic terrorism depends on how the world views George Bush.  In this regard the Democrats have been anything but helpful.  In fact, it can be said that they have been damaging, if not dangerous.  Yesterday Michigan's ditzy Senator Debbie Stabenow took to the floor of the Senate to rail on George Bush.  Next to her she had aides place a sign which said "Dangerously Incompetent."  We're at war, and this Senator labels our Commander in Chief as "dangerously incompetent" before the world, and before our enemies.  Tell me there weren't smiles and giggles in the caves of Afghanistan and the terrorist insurgent strongholds of Iraq.  Tell me that the Mad Mullahs of Iran didn't just love the show.  All of this because Stabenow doesn't think that Bush is spending enough money on "first responders."  That, by the way, is another way of saying that Bush isn't doing enough to (a) support policemen and firemen's unions and (b) to shift the burden of funding for police and firefighters from local governments to federal taxpayers.

We can add Stabenow's silly stunt to Russ Feingold's useless call for a presidential censure in the Senate.  Desperate for a little attention to get his presidential campaign off the ground, Feingold evidently thought this might give him some gas.  No such luck.  By the way, it was President George W. Bush that signed the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill.  Nice little payback to the president for his support for that hideous law.

If you vote for Democrats in the mid-term elections you are voting for the party that has clearly given aid and comfort to those who want to destroy us.  It's not that the Democrats have no agenda.  Indeed, they do have an agenda, but it's not one they want to put in front of the American voters.  It's an agenda of bigger government, the end of political free speech, higher taxes, more income redistribution, a continuation of the war on individuality and the weakening of America.  It's a pity that the Republicans won't identify the Democratic agenda for what it is, and stand up to fight it instead of seemingly playing along.

SOUTER'S HOUSE IS SAFE

When the disastrous Kelo vs. New London, Connecticut decision was handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court last year, Justice David Hackett Souter voted with the majority, in favor of New London.  That is, he ruled that cities should be allowed to steal private property from the rightful land owners in order to give it to a private developer.

Souter, appointed by Bush Senior and regretted ever since, was in for a little surprise.  A group decided that if Souter believed so much in the expanded use of eminent domain, it was time for him to pay the piper. So an organization got together and decided to petition a town in New Hampshire where Souter has a home.  The plan called for evicting Souter from his house, taking the land via eminent domain and building a hotel.  The hotel would appropriate be called the Lost Liberty Hotel.

The first hurdle was to get the proposal on the ballot.  The townspeople voted not to allow Souter's house to be taken.  Oh well...the point was made.   But there is good news.  People are now urging New Hampshire state officials to adopt laws to forbid eminent domain seizures.  All in all, not bad.

So the issue got a little attention....and now there is a push to get some laws on the books to ban the taking of private property.  All in all, good job.

GOOGLE STRIKES OUT

Google has lost their case to prevent the handover of their private search information to the federal government.  U.S. District Judge James Ware (appointed by Bush 41,) has told the Justice Department that it can expect to get at least some of the data they are requesting from Google.  Bummer.  Why is this so bad?

Because the Internet is the last bastion of unregulated freedom in an increasingly un-free world.  The government claims it only wants random search requests and what people are searching for, so it can hunt down child pornographers.  Too bad.  If the government wants to search for child pornographers on the Internet, it can search for them like anyone else can.  The Internet is an open forum.

It's a slippery slope.  The minute these companies start caving in and supplying your private information to government, there's no end to it.  What if one day the DOJ wakes up and decides it wants to know what political search terms are being used?  After all, we have to regulate that during election cycles in the name of campaign finance laws.  There is no end to it.

The government is overreaching here...and they won.  Too bad.  A sad day for freedom on the Internet.

Did you know that members of Congress get an allowance for a car?  Do they go out and buy a reasonable used car, in an attempt to save taxpayers a little money?  Of course not...they lease a new one.  For instance, Charles Rangel leases a Cadillac Deville...for $998 a month.

Dr. Walter E. Williams has been reporting on the indoctrination of youth
at America's government schools.  Today he updates us on the controversy surrounding the teacher who compared George W. Bush to Adolf Hitler.

The 2008 presidential election has already begun...and opponents are lining up to either attack or praise the current president.  Tony Blankley calls this playing the 'Presidential Card.'  And in two recent cases, both players failed.

Ed Koch, Democrat and former Mayor New York City, takes a look at the recent revelations that even Saddam's own generals believed he had weapons of mass destruction.  Koch wonders if the left will now apologize for calling George W. Bush a liar.

According to a recent poll, 46% of Americans expressed a negative view of Islam.  Jack Kelly points to the recent incident in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where a student tried to run people over in the name of Allah.  That's just one example of the peaceful religion of Islam.

Tom Bevan recently attended a GOP gathering in Memphis.  Is the party worried about George W. Bush's low poll numbers?  Not really...they believe if the party sticks to a message of low taxes, smaller government and a strong national defense...Republicans will prevail.

Michelle Malkin has an interesting story about an aspiring black poet who has gained quite a bit of attention performing at several venues.  She is just 7 years old.  But what you may not know is some of the hatred she is spewing.

Jonah Goldberg looks inside the most recent French riots.  They were, of course, rioting over the possibility that employers might be allowed to fire them from their first job.  Imagine that!

Helen Thomas, the dean of the White House press corps who, at the age of 187 has covered every presidency since the Lincoln administration, may want to be cloned.  Brent Bozell brings you up to speed on this one.

Teacher's unions are gunning for 20/20 reporter John Stossel because he dared push the idea of school choice.  That should come as no surprise, but Stossel says what did surprise him were some of the complaints he received from teachers.
