MORE ON THE MEXICAN INVASION

If you're a fan of unbridled arrogance you're going to love this one. It would seem that the government of Mexico is threatening lawsuits. Yup .. you got it right. Lawsuits. Mexico's Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez has said that if the Mexican government sees that our National Guard is starting to detain people ... he means Mexicans, of course ... thus preventing them from entering our country illegally ... then the government of Mexico will start filing lawsuits.

Boil down the Foreign Secretary's comments ... If the United States National Guard actually takes any action to protect the borders of the United States by holding back the invasion force then we're going to sue.

One would expect that some highly-ranked U.S. official would stand up and up somewhere and tell the Mexican government that the United States intends to defend its borders, and that any lawsuits brought against our government as a result of those efforts will be considered to be a hostile act. Well .. you might expect that, but you had best not hold your breath.

A 'LAND OF IMMIGRANTS?"

I'm getting a bit tired of Bush's constant references to the fact that we're a "land of immigrants." He's right, of course ... but he seems unwilling to highlight the fact that our ancestors, the immigrants he's talking about, came here legally. They followed the law. They didn't seek an advantage over anyone else by jumping the line. Our ancestral heritage is one of adherence to the law. This is a claim that cannot be made by the tens of millions of Mexicans and Hispanics who have, in effect, told us to take our rule-of-law and stick it.

JOHNNY ISAKSON'S AMENDMENT FAILS

Georgia Republican Senator Johnny Isakson offered a common-sense amendment to the Senate immigration bill. Isakson's amendment would have simply put off the establishment of a so-called "guest worker" program .. which is, of course, an amnesty program, until the Department of Homeland Security could certify to the U.S. Congress that our border with Mexico is secure. In short, Isakson's amendment would have mandated that we first shut off the flood before we try to clean up the flood damage. Isakson's amendment was shot down in the Senate by a vote of 55-40. The Senate sent the message ... don't secure the border first.

WE MUST CONSIDER THIS POSSIBILITY

By their actions our elected officials in Washington are sending us a rather strong message: We are not going to take any affirmative action to insure that the Mexican invasion across our southern border is brought to a halt. We must consider the possibility that these politicians want this invasion to continue because it serves their political needs. For the Democrats, this one is easy. Enabling the invasion is step one. Amnesty for those who have crossed our borders is step two. Step three will be figuring out a way to get those who were once illegal aliens, but by virtue of the amnesty program are illegal no more, to the polls to vote; presumably for Democrats. As for the Republicans? Well, there's always those heavy-duty contributors who benefit from the cheap labor offered by the invasion force. It's also possible that Republicans might actually believe that this legitimized invasion force will be prone to vote Republican!

This controversy over the Mexican invasion all boils down to one simple fact. It is fair to say that job one for the president and the members of congress is to defend and protect the borders of this country. In that regard they can be considered as nothing less than failures.

BUT HE'S A LIBERAL ... AND HE'S BLACK ... SO NO BIG DEAL

We picked this up from Tuesday's James Taranto's Best of the Web Today column. It seems that a columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, a liberal columnist, has used a racial slur in a column about Colin Powell. Here's the relevant paragraph:

Powell rose higher than almost any black Republican by making the party faithful comfortable with his non-threatening and non-demanding presence on racial issues. Powell flamed out after his ego no longer allowed him to be an unquestioning spearchucker in Mr. Bush's war.

The columnist, Sam Fulwood, is unapologetic. He says that the language was provocative and incendiary, but not hurtful. Oh really? Let's wait until some white conservative columnist, or a talk radio host for that matter, calls Fulwood a "spearchucker," or worse, and then claims that the language was not hurtful. We'll see how soft the reaction is.

Double standard folks. Just that simple.

WELL .. THERE GOES ANOTHER CONSPIRACY

The Pentagon has now released some videos showing that American Airlines airplane ramming the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. It's there ... in the picture. This isn't going to calm down the conspiracy nuts though. They can start screaming that the Pentagon delayed these videos so that they could be altered ... that there isn't a plane there ... that the earth is flat ... and that their neighbor had a black helicopter in an underground cavern behind his garage that he only flies at night when there's a new moon.

MEDIA GETS PHONE STORY WRONG

With great fanfare, USA Today reported last week that AT&T, Bellsouth and Verizon were systematically handing over telephone records to the NSA. People were outraged...their private phone calls were being shared with the government. But there's only one problem.

At least in the case of 2 out of 3 of those companies, it doesn't look like the story is true. Bellsouth has come forward and said their investigation turned up "no contract with the NSA and we are confident that we have turned over no phone records." Oops. So what does USA Today say? They said they contacted Bellsouth a day before the story ran and since the phone company didn't dispute the story, they took it to mean it was true. Guilty until proven innocent.

Now here comes Verizon. They announced yesterday that they did not provide any call records to the NSA. Strike two on USA Today. Verizon went even further, saying any media reports that suggested they did otherwise were completely false...a total fabrication.

USA Today says they are "investigating." It makes you wonder just what else is printed in the paper that's made up.

One more thing. Helen Thomas asked Tony Snow at the White House briefing yesterday if it was true that "that millions of Americans have been wiretapped?" Just where, dear Helen, has that been alleged?

The Department of Defense released the video yesterday showing the airplane that crashed into the Pentagon. This is supposed to end all the conspiracy theories. Who are they kidding? 9/11 was staged!

Michelle Malkin says the release of the Pentagon video underscores why President Bush's immigration policy is such a failure. She calls his guest worker program an insult to those who died on that day.

This can't be good for the mainstream media. Only one in four 12-34 year olds can name all four major broadcast networks. That could explain why the audience for the nightly newscasts has eroded every year and the average age of their viewers is about 90.

San Bernadino, California is considering a proposal that would ban landlords from renting to illegal aliens. The mayor is upset...worried it will cost the city money. It just goes to show how many people really don't want to do anything about illegal immigration.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is not happy with the plan to put the National Guard on the border with Mexico. He wants more border patrol agents, not troops. He says perhaps the government could send U.S. Marshalls instead.

Bill Cosby is tweaking the Left again...this time taking on victim culture in the black community. His latest explosive statement: black folks should fix their own communities.

Remember Ward Churchill? He's the loony Colorado college professor that called the victims of 9/11 "Little Eichmans" and also was caught plagiarizing Indian art and pretending to be a real Indian. At any rate, he's being disciplined finally...and the University of Colorado is considering suspending or firing him.

Tony Blankley has a message for conservatives that are unhappy with President Bush's illegal immigration proposal: sometimes you can't always get what you want.

Lately, there seems to be an expert on TV in just about every field. But as John Stossel warns, don't always believe them. He cites several examples where they were just plain wrong.

Thomas Sowell continues to follow the Duke rape case. He reports on a student who actually thinks the alleged attackers should be prosecuted, whether they did it or not. You won't believe why.
