After a successful visit to Dayton, Ohio, the Boortz Show moves to Norfolk, Virginia this morning for the WNIS Talkfest 2006! We'll be broadcasting live from the Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University. Admission is free ... so if you're in the area it's a good time to come watch sausage being made!

THANKS DAYTON!

Now that was a fun time. Jamie Dupree emceed the show last night with Sean Hannity, Clark Howard and myself before a great crowd at the University of Dayton Arena! The two high moments of the show were when Sean delivered a soliloquy about President Bush and the war on terror, and when Clark Howard talked to the crowd about economics and gas prices. In fact .. Clark was on his game last night. He's an amazing guy. I know I speak for the others when I say thanks to those who braved some interesting weather to come out and to 1290 WHIO for putting on such a fine event. I'm sure we'll be back in Dayton to for a repeat performance sometime in the not-too-distant future.

AND JUST WHAT DID THE CROWD RESPOND TO?

By far last night the crowd responded with the most enthusiasm to our statements on illegal immigrants, or, as I call them, the invaders. When we would mention that our government, and especially our president, is failing to protect the borders of this country there was an overwhelming response from the crowd. The people want our borders closed. They want it now. The politicians do not. We have the control .. and we can exercise that control this November. Will we remember how we were ignored? Will we remember how our elected officials failed to do their most important jobs while in office? They have failed to protect and defend the borders of this country. My guess? It will be another election like all those that came before. Voters will walk into the voting booth firm in their belief that 434 of the 435 member of the House of Representatives should be sent packing ... every member BUT the one that represents them.

THE RUNAWAY BRIDE IS ON THE MARKET AGAIN!

Did I call this one? Well ... I'm such a renowned expert in interpersonal relations it was really a no-brainer. John Mason has now announced that he and Jennifer Wilbanks will not be getting married. The engagement is off. Now the groom has hit the road. Reading between the lines, his family couldn't be more thrilled. So ... is this the end of the story? I hope not. I really want to see who the next sucker is going to be and just what is going to happen as that magic day approaches. Maybe the next time she'll fake an alien abduction.

YOU CAN STOP MINDLESSLY BLAMING THE OIL COMPANIES NOW.

Yesterday the House of Representatives had an opportunity to take a huge step toward American energy independence. They faltered. Our great representatives rejected an amendment to an Interior Department bill that would have ended the absurd ban we have on drilling for natural gas and oil off about 85% of the costal waters of the United States. This, of course, includes California and Florida. The vote wasn't even close. They couldn't even agree to allow drilling just for natural gas! In case you went to government schools, please allow me to explain that there is no such thing as a natural gas spill. There is no way that natural gas could wash up on the shores of the Florida Gulf Coast or California and ruin any tourist's day in the sun.

So .. the more mindless among you can continue with your mass hysteria against the oil companies. Those of you actually capable of rational thought can start to wonder just why it is these people in Washington seem so hell-bent on maintaining America's dependence on foreign energy sources.

TOMORROW'S RUNOFF IN NEW ORLEANS

Tomorrow we're going to find out just how hopeless New Orleans is. New Orleans voters --- including many who have no intention of ever moving back to make New Orleans their home again -- will vote in the Democratic runoff between present New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu. If these voters actually give Ray Nagin another shot at leading New Orleans then we will know that the problems that led to the Katrina disaster went much deeper than irresponsible and incompetent leadership from the mayor and governor. Mr. "Chocolate City" was a disgrace. Instead of running for reelection he should be planning a defense for a trial of charges of criminal incompetence and cowardice. We'll know a lot more about the people of New Orleans by Monday.

[OK ... that about does it for the notes Neal sent us from Norfolk this morning ... we now turn over the Nuze to the rest of the Boortz staff .... so don't blame anything else you read here on The Man!]

SHOW AT THE BORDER

Yesterday President Bush was down at the border to promote his plan, introduced on national television Monday night, to send 6,000 National Guard troops to the border to assist border patrol agents. He visited a border area in Arizona that is known for a high level of illegal immigration.

Bush spoke at the border patrol headquarters: "I think it helps to have the president out here, seeing the part of the area of the country that one time was overrun by people coming in here, that's beginning to get settled down because of a strategy that's being employed."  So the president expects us to believe that he is finally getting down to business, rolling up his sleeves and actually doing something about illegal immigration.

Hardly.  Bush was the governor of Texas from 1995-2000.  He knows what's up.  Since he's been president of the United States, illegal immigration has exploded on his watch.  Yet he has done nothing about it.  All we've heard from the White House on the issue has been to promote a guest worker program.  Now that people are finally fed up and want something done, we get this little show at the border.

On the plus side, the president did finally admit that building a better fence was a good idea.  But not too much of a fence and not in every area...after all, that would upset the Mexican government.  We can't have that!  But do you really think George W. Bush would have proposed any of this, or would have visited the border if people weren't so upset about the issue?

Not a chance. And once all this dies down, he'll move on to something else...while invasion of illegals continues.

SENATE VOTES ON NATIONAL LANGUAGE

The United States Senate, known for taking forever to pass any meaningful legislation, seems to be on a bit of a tear lately.  Yesterday Senators voted 63-34 to make English the national language.  It's about time.  Actually, they didn't exactly use the words "national language."  Instead, they chose to call it a "common and unifying language."  Whatever.

This is a start.  If you want to come to the United States and be a part of the culture, you should have to learn English.  For too long, we have coddled people who expect to come here and continue speaking Spanish.  So now we have English being taught as a second language.   We have signs in both English and Spanish.  And who can forget the most annoying thing of all: when you call a customer service line, being told to press a button if you speak English.

In fact, before you are granted citizenship into this country, you should be given a simple language test.  If you cannot demonstrate your ability to speak the native language, you're out.  Go home, learn English and then try again.  It really is as simple as that.

LECTURES FROM THE U.N.

The United Nations is one of the biggest recipients of charity from the United States in the world.  Actually, I think they call it "membership dues."  The UN has its offices here...actually in some of the most expensive real estate in New York.  And what do we get for all of millions and billions?  Nothing but non-stop aggravation.

Because, you see, the United Nations is an organization made up of dictators and governments around the world that hate the United States.  Deep down, at the end of the day, its Secretary General Kofi Annan doesn't think much of us either.

So today the U.N. has released a report calling for the shutdown of the U.S. terrorist prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The report is 11 pages long and is a review of how well we've adhered to something called the Treaty Against Torture.  According to the U.N., we should close the prison and also should ensure that we have no one detained in secret prisons anywhere in the world.

Really...if that's the case, then where is the report on other countries' prisons around the world?  Russia? China? North Korea?  Oops...looks like they get a pass.  And just what does the U.N. propose that we do with all of the Islamic terrorists at Gitmo?  Maybe we could send them to Kofi Annan's U.N.-provided Manhattan residence?

Actually, the U.N. would respond that there's no such thing as terrorists....only misunderstood people.  Can someone please explain why we continue to  be a member of an organization that hates us?

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

I kind of doubt postal regulations allow for this sort of thing.  More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

  • The Senate voted yesterday to give illegal aliens Social Security benefits.  One step forward and ten steps back.  So the message is: stop coming here illegally, but if you do make it, look at all the government benefits you get!

President Bush once enjoyed approval ratings after 9/11 of 82% in New York.  Not anymore...apparently they've fallen to 22%.  How low can they go?  I'm sure the media will let us know.

The United Nations does not even recognize the concept of an "illegal immigrant."
They want all immigrants to have the same rights, regardless of legal status.  Yet another reason to dump our membership in this worthless organization.

While the Bush Administration is apparently thinking about negotiating directly with North Korea, the North Koreans are planning to test launch a missile. This should get very interesting.

Charles Krauthammer says George W. Bush probably has good intentions
in wanting to step up border security, but that's not enough.  He says other past "reforms" have done nothing but increase the number of illegals.

For the past several years, it has seemed like the Republican party was on the way up.  But Pat Buchanan asks the question: is the GOP ascendancy over?

Mark Davis says what nearly everyone is thinking: Bush's immigration plan is too soft on illegal aliens.
His proposal is not enough and is basically an amnesty program.

Is it possible to balance a budget, wiping out a deficit in the process, and do it all without raising taxes?  Sure it is...and Fred Barnes tells us just how Missouri Governor Roy Blunt accomplished that very thing.

We have reached the tipping point in this country over illegal immigration.  And as David Limbaugh reports, the people upset about the illegal alien invasion are neither racist nor bigoted.

What is the cost of illegal immigration?  The statistics speak for themselves.  According to Mona Charen's latest column, in the last 30 years, we've gone from 6% of all births being to illegal aliens to 23%.
