In preparation for tonight's rally I've been reading more articles about the FairTax, some critiques, some praise. I am once again struck by the fact that anyone who sets out to condemn the FairTax must first change its terms --- that or just outright lie. Politicians have seen the FairTax. Some recognize it as a way to grow our economy, provide jobs, and bring American businesses and dollars back home. Others see it as a sure path to the loss of political power. If you listen close enough you can hear many in Washington telling you to forget this FairTax idea, that there is just no way they're going to transfer this much power from Capitol Hill to you. They need to hear you telling tem that they risk losing all of their power if they don't pay attention to what the people are saying and asking for. Tonight we get a chance to speak. Another step. As my friend Robert Schuller says, "Inch by inch, anything's a cinch" Sean Hannity had an amazing segment on Hannity & Colmes earlier this week. Just incredible TV. His guest was some former Boston College adjunct professor named Steve Almond. Almond actually resigned from the faculty of Boston College because Condoleezza Rice was invited to give a commencement speech. In his letter to the school's president Almond wrote "Simply put, Rice is a liar." That brings us to his appearance on Hannity & Colmes. Under questioning from Hannity Almond cited as one of Rice's lies her claim that Saddam Hussein was pursuing nuclear weapons. Yup --- Almond actually classifies this as a lie. The world knows it's true. Components of the nuclear program were found buried in the back yards of Saddam's nuclear researchers. There's more evidence than a rational person would ever require, but Almond cites it as a lie. Hannity then asked Almond repeatedly whether or not he voted for John Kerry. Almond refused to answer. He just kept responding by saying that public officials shouldn't lie. Then Hannity reads a quote to Almond where John Kerry said that Saddam was pursuing nuclear weapons. Almond, of course, has no response. He's caught. Nailed. Shown to be the academic fool that he is. Boston College is now better off for having had Condoleezza Rice as a speaker, and for the resignation of Steve Almond. Steve Almond isn't alone. You hear this "lie" bit day after day from critics of the Bush Administration. Just as the left has applied a new definition to words such as "democracy" and "racism." So the left seems to have come up with a definition of the word "lie." Under the old definitions in order to tell a lie you had to know that the information you were presenting was false at the time you made the statement. Under the new leftist definition all that is necessary is for the information to be discovered to be false after the fact. Under the old definition if you said "My wife is bring six goosegogs home from the grocery store today." and your wife arrives home with only four goosegogs, you clearly are not a liar. You were just wrong. Under the new leftist definition that statement about the number of goosegogs your wife is going to bring home makes you a liar. Pretty petty stuff. The media, of course, lets them get away with it. I come to you with bad news today. The Ditzy Twits have a new album out, and it's not doing all that well. The Twits' popularity dived when Twit Natalie Maines went to a foreign country to announce to the audience how ashamed she was to be from the same state as President Bush. Now ... with the release of this album .. Maines is yakking it up again. Now she says that President Bush "deserves no respect whatsoever." Well .. the bad news. Their album is tanking. The two singles released from the album are not doing well. One song, "Not ready to make nice" peaked at No. 36. The other single is moving down the charts from its high of 48. Sad. So sad.
Simply put. Amnesty. Amnesty with rewards. This isn't an immigration bill, this is a bill to legitimize an invasion. Here are some points in the Senate bill. Now you read these and tell me if you think this is immigration "reform."
In other words ... nothing. Not a damn thing. No punishment whatsoever to those who have violated the law. Give them a place in line ahead of those who have played by the rules. This just has to be a joke. Please tell me they aren't serious.
This falls under the "even a blind pig finds an acorn" rule, but the Commonwealth of Massachusetts may be on the verge of raising the minimum driving age to 17 1/2 years. Good for them! So many other states don't have the guts to make this necessary move. We'll keep an eye on this one for you.
REDNECK SCRAP BOOK Aren't they cute all dressed up for the prom? More in the Redneck Scrap Book.
The ridiculous legislation continues in the House and Senate over illegal immigration. It's something new every day. One plan calls for 12 million illegals to stay and work toward citizenship. Another plan calls for all temporary worker applicants to leave the country. Don't like that legislation, wait five minutes. Here's an update on the alleged rape at Duke University. Apparently the accuser gave conflicting stories about what happened....but the DA charged 3 guys anyway. The United States has tried this amnesty business before.....giving illegal aliens a path to citizenship. Ed Meese weighs in with a history lesson from 20 years ago...about what happened then and says it's just like it is now. A guy decides to buy a bunch of generators and head to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina to help people. But he winds up in jail, because he was charging twice what they were worth...so-called price gouging. John Stossel has a full report. Every once in awhile, a supposed soldier comes out against the war...and the left rejoices. But Michelle Malkin talks about another so-called soldier...who turns out to be a fraud. What's the best way to control illegal immigration? Jonah Goldberg has the right idea. He says we should, for starters, you know...build a wall. Imagine that! Believe it or not, there are a few sane Democrats in this world....ones who realize that all this talk about impeaching George Bush will get them absolutely nowhere. Former Congressman Martin Frost says Democrats need to start acting like winners. Nothing ticks Dr. Walter E. Williams off more than when the government tries to step in and save people from themselves. His latest target: the 'Click It or Ticket' seat belt campaign. We've heard over and over again that for real reform to take place, we have to control the border and do something about the illegals already here...at the same time. Thomas Sowell wants to know why we have to do both at once. An Alabama woman got back at her cheating husband, by hitting him with a can of Raid bug spray. Ouch. Toe licker on the loose in Tulsa. Couple caught stealing marital aids when they made another visit to the store and were recognized. | ||
