TOMORROW'S THE DAY!

First of all ... let's be clear on this.  If the Republicans lose control of the House in tomorrow's election it will by no means be an unusual circumstance.  It will be quite normal, actually.  Last week Charles Krauthammer pointed out that since World War II a two-term president has lost an average of 29 seats in the House and six in the Senate in his sixth-year midterm elections.  If the Republicans were to lose both the House and the Senate tomorrow it would be business as usual.

That still doesn't make it right.

I keep hearing from the various pundits that this election is all about the war in Iraq.  Well, first of all, it isn't "the war in Iraq."  It is the war against Islamic fascism.  It's a world war with battlefronts on all continents (except Antarctica) with the primary battles being fought in Iraq.

I don't think for a moment that those who steadfastly oppose our actions in Iraq are suddenly going to see the light 24 hours before they vote in these midterm elections.  The best that can be hoped for is that some of them will come to understand the consequences of a Democrat victory tomorrow.

For voters who who still haven't quite made up their minds, might I recommend an amazing column written by Victor Davis Hanson.  Here are the first three paragraphs:

What is written about Iraq now is exclusively acrimonious. The narrative is the suicide bomber and IED, never how many terrorists we have killed, how many Iraqis have been given a chance for something different than the old nightmare, or how a consensual government has withstood enemies on nearly every front.

Long forgotten is the inspired campaign that removed a vicious dictator in three weeks. Nor is much credit given to the idealistic efforts to foster democracy rather than just ignoring the chaos that follows war - as we did after the Soviets were defeated in Afghanistan, or following our precipitous departure from Lebanon and Somalia. And we do not appreciate anymore that Syria was forced to vacate Lebanon; that Libya gave up its WMD arsenal; that Pakistan came clean about Dr. Khan; and that there have been the faint beginnings of local elections in the Gulf monarchies.

Yes, the Middle East is "unstable," but for the first time in memory, the usual killing, genocide, and terrorism are occurring in a scenario that offers some chance at something better. Long before we arrived in Iraq, the Assads were murdering thousands in Hama, the Husseins were gassing Kurds, and the Lebanese militias were murdering civilians. The violence is not what has changed, but rather the notion that the United States can do nothing about it; the U.S. has shown itself willing to risk much to support freedom in place of tyranny or theocracy in the region.

You can read the remainder of this column right here.  The truth is this column has too much of an intellectual and historical foundation for most of the anti-war, peace-at-any-price Democrat voters to absorb.

An honest and unbiased analysis places much of the blame for the current situation in Iraq squarely on the Democrats.  Since the election debacle in Florida in 2000 Democrats have been dedicated to one cause, and one cause only ... demonizing George Bush and regaining what they see as their birthright to power in Washington DC.  If this means sabotaging America's efforts to defeat Islamic Fascism, so be it.  The Democrats return to power and the destruction of George Bush was all-important, everything else came in second.

There is not an ounce of doubt in my mind that the Democrats have been a great source of comfort and encouragement for Islamic terrorists worldwide.  If American has a weakness in their minds, that weakness is personified by the Democrat Party.

Be absolutely certain of one thing.  A Democrat takeover of the House will be seen by Islamic terrorists everywhere as a great victory for them and a stunning defeat of their nemeses George W. Bush.  A Democrat victory will make the Islamic fascist not only stronger, but bolder.  They will gain legitimacy where there was doubt, and support where there was indifference.  In the end, we will pay a price.

Sooner or later Islamic fascists will be defeated.  They must be. A Democrat victory tomorrow will make that victory more costly and longer in coming.

AND THEN THERE'S THE VOTERS WHO CAN'T COPE

While we're talking about the war against Islamic fascism, and the myrmidons who don't seem to recognize that we're even at war, let's not forget the largest Democrat voting block out there.  There are tens of millions of Americans who have refused to accept the responsibilities of adulthood.  These are Americans who will profess their love of freedom, but when it comes time to face the responsibilities they take a quick powder.

These Americans are unwilling to accept the responsibility for developing their own job skills and finding a job.  They run from the responsibility of educating their children.  In fact, many of them don't even feel it is their responsibility to provide for the care of their own children when they're off at their jobs!  These Americans feel that their health care is someone else's responsibility too --- either their employer or the government.  And God forbid that they should ever be held responsible for planning and funding their own retirement.

Every day these Americans wake up with one primary thought in mind.  What can the government do today to relieve me of the responsibility for taking care of my own life.

These people will vote Democrat.  There is nothing that will change their minds.  Making sure that government continues to play the role of Mommy and Daddy to these voters was their primary motivation the last time the voted, and it will be their primary motivation tomorrow.

Put them together with those who despise economic liberty, those who believe America is great because of its government, those who suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Compassion Syndrome and those who see peace at any price, and tomorrow shapes up to be a disaster for our liberties and our security.

Why in the hell do we let these people vote anyway?

SADDAM SENTENCED TO HANG

Well this puts Democrats in a bit of a bind, doesn't it?  Here we are, the day before the mid-term elections....a day in which their party is expected to at least take over the House of Representatives....and they have a problem.  The popularity of the Democrats right now hinges almost exclusively on the unpopularity of the war in Iraq.  The idea that the Butcher of Baghdad might hang for his crimes could justify the war in Iraq in enough people's  minds to cause them to pull the GOP lever tomorrow.

Some Democrats are being smart about it.  New York Senator Chuck Schumer, for instance, came out and said yesterday that Saddam was a brutal, evil dictator that is getting what he deserves...but he doesn't think the conviction makes much of a difference in the election.  This is in stark contrast to Howard Dean's comments that were made right after Saddam was captured 3 years ago.  Remember that?  Dean said America was not safer after Saddam's capture.  He's since changed his tune, calling Saddam Hussein a war criminal who is getting what he deserves.

But this isn't what Democrats really want to say.  They probably think that the trial's verdict was timed by the Bush Administration to coincide directly with the mid-term elections.  A "November Surprise," if you will.  What they really believe is that Iraq was better off under Saddam Hussein...and they're upset at the idea he might be executed.  All of this proves one thing:  Democrats are invested in American defeat in Iraq.  Any positive development...any...they're going to downplay it.  It's the only issue they have in this election and when something like this happens, they have nothing.

Will Saddam's verdict be enough to change public opinion about the war over the course of 2 days?  Probably not.  But you can definitely tell the left is worried.

ALL TED HAGGARD, ALL THE TIME

Boy, the mainstream media has been milking this Ted Haggard story for all it's worth.  Who cares if some TV preacher is caught up in a sex scandal?  It should probably be news for oh..about a day.  But you see, the media realizes this could be a way to embarrass the White House and suppress the evangelical vote.  Supposedly Haggard was part of some White House conference calls here and there...which makes him a senior administration official!

Why is this national news for several days running?  The answer is because Ted Haggard is an evangelical and the evangelical vote is huge for the Republican party.  The media sees the Haggard story like they saw the Foley story...a way to discourage evangelicals suppress voter turnout on the right.  Now it may or may not work, but they're going to push it for all it's worth.

As for the substance of the story itself...who cares.  Guys like Ted Haggard are a dime a dozen:  do as they say but don't do as they do.  He just happens to be the president of the National Association of Evangelicals.  Of course, to the media....he's George W. Bush's best friend...another conservative hypocrite they can't wait to expose.  Would this story have gotten so much play if Haggard had been a Democrat?

Nope...not even close.  Which goes to show you the media bias template is still in full force.

THANK YOU CLARK HOWARD!

I don't give consumer advice on the air and I'm certainly not what you would call a consumer advocate, but I heard something from Clark Howard on the radio today that is just outrageous.  Clark is sounding the alert about Capital One credit cards!  You know Capitol One .. they're the ones with the rampaging barbarians. It seems that Capitol One will issue people with marginal credit a card with a very low credit limit.  As soon as that credit limit is exceeded Capitol One will issue another card with a similarly low limit.  When that limit is exceeded another card is on the way!  Soon the idiot consumer will have four -- maybe five or six -- Capital One credit cards that are right up to the limit.  This means that Capital One can charge the excess fees and higher interest rates that accrue when cards exceed their credit limit.  In some cases Capital One credit card holders are paying hundreds of dollars a month in these fees.  They are digging a hole from which they'll never escape.

I know, I know.  Capital One isn't breaking any laws.  And they aren't the only one issuing credit to people who shouldn't have it. But they certainly are exploiting the ignorance of these people with their well-earned dismal credit ratings.  I'm glad Howard is blowing the whistle.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Here is Steve Young to tell you how to call your favorite "right-wing" talk show host today and get in your licks for the Democrats.

A Naples, Florida couple is "giving" away their house in an essay contest.  They'll take 6000 entries.  The entry fee is $100.  The house goes to the best essay.  Yes, it's legal .. but remove the essays and you have a lottery, which should be legal, but isn't.  How long before some politicians try to shut this trend down?

Gas prices are heading down again....they've now dropped 84 cents a gallon over 12 weeks.  Yet another ploy by the oil companies to elect more Republicans.  Since he obviously controls the price of gasoline, perhaps George W. Bush could also lower the price of other things.

Saddam Hussein has been found guilty of crimes against humanity and ordered to hang.  So just who has come out against this verdict for the butcher of Baghdad?  Naturally, the European Union.  They don't agree with the death penalty...and of course, they don't like the United States either.

Vanity Fair did an article in which it said that supposedly Bush's strongest supporters...the neoconservatives, or so-called "neocons" had turned on the president.  The only problem, some of the subjects of the article say they were deceived by Vanity Fair.

The latest 2008 presidential poll...yes, they're already polling for that....show John McCain and Hillary Clinton leading the field.  Other  probably candidates like Joe Biden and Mitt Romney are far behind.  Oh, and Barack Obama is in there somewhere too.

Dick Cheney did a TV interview that aired over the weekend in which he said that no matter who wins in tomorrow's elections, it's going to be full speed ahead in Iraq with no change in policy.  That may not have exactly been what people wanted to hear, but it seems the Saddam verdict wiped it off the front page.

So what is going to happen if Democrats take control of the Congress?  The Washington Times has a five-part series that gives some insight as to what the left's plans are.  In some areas, there won't be much different...but in others...hold onto your wallet.

Robert Novak is finding that GOP operatives around the country wish that the president would go away until the elections are over.  Evidently no matter what he says when he campaigns, he's just reminding people of Iraq.  And that helps the Democrats.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani says Republicans should stay on offense and not give up on tomorrow's elections.  The likely 2008 presidential candidate has been storming the country, campaigning for GOP candidates.  He says Republicans should be optimistic.

George Will pulls out his scorecard and starts looking at the situation on Election Day for Republicans...and it isn't pretty.  He points out that suburban voters, where Republicans traditionally do well, rate support for George W. Bush at 29%.  Not good.

In part four of his 'Cast of Characters' series, Thomas Sowell points out that the mainstream media no longer report the news or even observe it.  He says they are now political partisans...and he points to example after example where the media's anti-Republican slant has been exposed.

Which states are spending more than they are contributing to the tax coffers? Here's the ranking for 2004. And here's a look at a range of years 1981-2005.

Wonder which negative campaign is closest to the truth? Maybe they're both half truths! Get unbiased analysis of political ads in major national races at factcheck.org.

The folks over at b3ta have a little fun with Saddam's new predicament.

A little sex humor to get you through the day.
