TOMORROW IS VETERANS DAY

Now there are some people out there who will tell you that since I never served in the military, I have no right to talk of our military and the men and women who served.  Well, you can just imagine what impact their bleatings have on me ...

I grew up in the military.  My father was a career Marine.  All I knew from my earliest memories through my Corps of Cadets experience at Texas A&M was the military life.  I firmly believe that there is no better group of men and women anywhere, in any walk of life in this country than those who serve in our armed forces and their families.  You will find a higher degree of integrity and care in any base housing complex, enlisted or officers, than you will find in any other neighborhood in America ... except, perhaps, for the Amish --- and I'm not all that sure about them!

Tomorrow perhaps you could take the time to participate in some ceremony in your city or town honoring these men and women.  A political party led by men who have referred to our men and women in uniform as rapists, terrorists, murders and just plain stupid, a political party that has compared these fine men and women to Hitler's storm troopers has just taken control in Washington DC.  I'm sure this must weigh heavily on the hearts and minds of those serving now and the millions of veterans who served in the past.  Go out of you way to let them know you care, and you appreciate the sacrifice they have made. 

SAN FRANCISCO?  SAY IT AIN'T SO!

I read this morning that Thom Hartman is Air America Radio's Al Franken on KQKE in San Francisco.  Aw, come on folks!  This is a joke, right? If Al Franken can't make it in San Francisco ... where in the hell can he make it?  I mean ... the Democrats are running the show in Washington ... and Al Franken can't make it in San Francisco?

HOWARD DEAN SAYS NO IMPEACHMENT

Now the Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean says Democrats will not impeach President Bush.  This comes on the heels of Nancy Pelosi's statements that she isn't interested in pursuing it either.  So what is at play here?  Is it because the Democrats truly don't want to impeach the president because they think he doesn't deserve it?  Not at all.  They hate him just as much as any anti-war, diehard Leftist does.

There are two main reasons why they won't make the political mistake of pursuing the impeachment of George W. Bush:

• The public doesn't want it.  Despite the unpopularity of the Iraq war, George W. Bush and Republicans in general, the majority of the public isn't interested in impeaching the president.  He'll be gone in two years anyway, and Democrats aren't going to make the mistake that Republicans did in 1998 in wasting time and effort trying to remove Clinton from office.  Internal Democratic polling is no doubt also telling them not to bother with it.
   
• They don't have the votes.  It would take a majority of the House...that means every nearly every Democrat voting to impeach....to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate.  Then, somehow, miraculously, the 49 Democrats and 2 independents plus 16 Republicans would have to vote to convict.  It's never going to happen.  They just don't have the votes.

But make no mistake:  in going around saying they aren't going to impeach George W. Bush, the Democrats are also making a threat.  It's a message to the Bush Administration that they are in charge now and if the administration chooses to play ball, they'll let George Bush serve out his term and go back to Crawford in one piece.

REPUBLICANS MAD AT WHITE HOUSE

So the day after the GOP gets its head handed to it at the polls, President Bush fires Donald Rumsfeld.  Not much of a surprise because the media kept telling us that this election was all about the war in Iraq.  But some Republicans on the Hill are saying hey, wait a minute.  Why couldn't George Bush have fired Rumsfeld before the election?  You know...like a couple weeks earlier?

One is only left to assume that the White House honestly thought they weren't going to lose.  Bush even went on TV and said Rumsfeld and Cheney were going to stay in their positions until the end of his term.  Cheney was on TV saying no matter what happens during the election, we're not changing course in Iraq.

Now think about this.  If Rumsfeld was kept on through the election because Bush honestly felt they weren't going to lose, doesn't that mean that Rumsfeld was fired specifically because the Republicans lost .. and that the firing was an offering to the Democrats?

Would a Rumsfeld firing a month ago made a difference?  Maybe...might have saved the Senate, but probably not.

BYE-BYE BOLTON

The campaign for Islamic appeasement has already begun.  UN Ambassador John Bolton, whom President Bush installed in that position a little over a year ago, is on the way out.  The lame duck Congress isn't in any mood to do the White House any favors, so Bolton's tenure at the UN will end.

That's too bad...Bolton did a good job.  He kept the U.N. accountable and stood up to the appeasers of Iran, North Korea and those unwilling to fight the War On Terror. So what does this mean?  This means that those who want to turn back the clock on all the progress we've made in the fight against radical Islam have won.

The administration will no doubt now wind up nominating somebody who is more willing to play ball at the UN, that is somebody who won't rock the boat.  The tinhorn dictators and anti-American Euro-weenies in the General Assembly will be very happy to get rid of Bolton.

And Osama Bin Laden is probably in a cave somewhere smiling.

ESCAPE TO TALK RADIO TODAY

Today is apparently the forty-somethingth anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald on one of our Great Lakes.  That means it's a great day to be listening to talk radio.  I promise that on my show you will not hear that hideous Gordon Lightfoot song.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

The president of Iraq says Democrats have told him they will not pull out of Iraq prematurely.  Setting aside the idea that Democrats are not in charge of foreign policy, this doesn't mean much.  Hopefully he's not putting much stock in what those Democrats told him, because they do want to cut and run.

So who will be the House Majority Leader now that Nancy Pelosi is going to be the Speaker?  Maryland Democrat Steny Hoyer seems to be the favorite, but he is being challenged by none other than anti-war nutbar John Murtha.  This should be an interesting race.

This isn't too encouraging.  Who have the Democrats called in to help them with an exit plan from Iraq?  None other than George McGovern.  Yes...that George McGovern.  His advice?  No surprise...total surrender.  He says we need to cut and run by June.

Get out your violin:  the Republican Party may be losing a valued and important member.  Defeated Rhode Island Senator Lincoln Chafee says he might leave the party.  Please, Senator..don't let the door hit you on the way out.  Good riddance.

Remember the controversy last year over Wal-Mart's decision to use "Happy Holidays" in their advertising instead of "Merry Christmas?"  Well, the retailing giant says they have learned their lesson...it's Merry Christmas from now on.

Here is one Democratic committee chairman that would be good.  Soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is recommending Joe Lieberman for chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.  No doubt his reward for joining the Democrats and giving them the majority.

Charles Krauthammer's reaction to the election may surprise you...he essentially says it's no big deal.  In fact, he says the turnover in the House is in line with history...and the Democrats didn't really win much in the Senate.  The switch of a few thousand votes in Montana or Virginia and the Republicans would still have the Senate.

So what caused the big losses at the polls on Tuesday?  George Will says it's unquestionably the war in Iraq.  Never a supporter of the war, he calls it the GOP's heath care disaster, comparing it to the Democrats' loss of the House in 1994 over that issue.

Now that Democrats have the reigns in Congress and President Bush seems likely to get his guest worker program, where does that leave the issue of illegal immigration?  Victor Davis Hanson weighs in...and says it may be time to rethink the whole issue.

David Limbaugh is optimistic about 2008 and only a little bit depressed over the Republican losses this week.  But he says what we should really be concerned about is the status of the War On Terror...he's afraid the White House and the Democrats are about to take us back to a September 10th mindset.
