THE SURRENDER BEGINS

Well .. if the Islamic fascists dared to think last week that the American voters signaled surrender, they can pretty much rest assured that this is the case as we begin the week after. 

If anybody thought for a second with Nancy Pelosi sitting there in the Oval Office pledging cooperation with George W. Bush that she was anything other than a Leftist radical, think again.  She has already said she's supporting John Murtha for House Majority Leader.   Get ready for an interesting two years...the door swings to the left on Capitol Hill.

Sure....Nancy Pelosi is doing everything she can to change her image from San Francisco Moonbat to one of a middle-of-the road moderate Democrat.  But people who really know Nancy Pelosi know better.  The good news for Republicans over the next two years is that she can't hide who she is.  And why are all of these supposedly new moderate members of Congress going to vote for Pelosi as Speaker of the House?  Who knows.

So now she's saying she supports Murtha for Majority Leader.  This suddenly makes Steny Hoyer look like a conservative.  So Pelosi is for Murtha....the same John Murtha that is calling for unconditional surrender to Al-Qaeda in Iraq.  This is the same John Murtha that jumped to conclusions, all but accusing our troops of war crimes in Iraq.  Yup...that John Murtha.

So don't let the conservative hairdo and attire fool you...Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi is a huge Leftist....as far to the Left as they come in the United States Congress.

Nancy Pelosi will also pass over Jane Harman for the chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee.  Harman, a California Democrat, is accepted as the Democrat's most knowledgeable member of the House on Security and Intelligence issues.  There's a problem though.  Harman supports the war on Islamic Fascism.  Pelosi wants the House Intelligence Committee to be chaired by someone who doesn't support that war.  Make sense to you? 

And let's not forget the actions of President Bush.  The very day after the Democrat victory Bush fires Don Rumsfeld.  Should Rumsfeld have gone?  Perhaps so .. but could there be a worse day than the day after an election that changes the face of power in Washington?  Islamic fascist leaders do not understand the nuances of power in Washington.  They see Democrats (1) calling for withdrawal from the battlefield in Iraq; and (2) the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld.  The day after the Democrats score their victory they get Rumsfeld's resignation.  Then within a weak major Democrat players start their withdrawal chant again.

Considering the above, why wouldn't the Islamic terrorists believe that they have scored a major victory, and that America is weakening before their eyes?

CAN WE FIND SOME EMPATHY IN OUR HEARTS

Congress re-convenes today.  Not the new, Democrat controlled congress.  The old one.  The old one with an ineffective Speaker of the House and Majority Leader of the Senate.  The one controlled by Republicans.

Today there will be quite a few Republicans heading to Capitol Hill to not only finish this session, but to pack their things and move out.  While they're sealing their moving boxes they can reflect on the fact that not one single Democrat incumbent lost in the general election.  Not one. 

No .. I'm not asking for you to find a dose of sympathy for the Republicans who are packing up.  There is at least one Democrat moving out in the next few weeks also.  This Democrat, certainly one of the most partisan, lost a primary battle. 

Imagine how this ultra-partisan Democrat must feel!  As she packs up to move back home her former colleagues are preparing to lead, preparing for life in the majority.  Would there have been a good subcommittee chairmanship in the waiting?  Increased staff?  A nicer office?  Certainly there would have been more perks.  To the victor, after all, go the spoils. 

All she had to do  was utter 11 words.  That's it.  Just 11 words and she would be there serving in the majority in the United States Congress as one of the most exciting presidential elections in history approaches.  If she had just said "I'm sorry officer.  I'm Cynthia McKinney.  Perhaps you didn't recognize me." 

So come on folks.  Show a little humanity today.  Just try to imagine how Cynthia McKinney must feel as she heads back to Washington today.  Deep inside she knows that she has nobody to blame but herself for her exile.  She played the race card one time too many ....

By the way, as soon as you get through feeling sorry for Cynthia, remember that she'll be back in about a year as the Green (Socialist) Party Candidate for President. 

IRAQ ON THE FRONT BURNER

So what is the first clash going to be between the White House and the Democrats in Congress?  Iraq.  Make no mistake about their position, because it hasn't changed:  they want the United States to cut and run in Iraq.  Two top Senate Democrats say they'll introduce the resolution in January.  This is what we're told people voted for last Tuesday, so don't shoot the messenger.

But they won't call it "cutting and running" or "total surrender," though that will be the reality.  You're going to hear weasel phrases like "phased redeployment" and "time table for withdrawal."  Democrat Carl Levin, in line to run the Senate Armed Services Committee, had this to say:  "We need to begin a phased redeployment of forces from Iraq in four to six months, to begin that redeployment.  We have to tell Iraqis that the open-ended commitment is over."  While it's true that we can't be in Iraq forever, why give terrorists a  4 to 6-month head start?  Why not just bring all the troops home next Monday, Senator Levin?

Make no mistake:  Iraq is a mess.  The occupation was mismanaged and Republicans paid the price at the polls.  But to just walk out of the country, leaving it in the hands of the insurgency would be a greater mistake.  But Democrats' position on Iraq, no matter what they told people when they were running for the election last week...hasn't changed.  The policy is the same:  cut and run.

With Bush a lame duck in the White House...we'll no doubt wind up pursuing a policy of 'cut and run lite.'  You know, where all the troops leave and some of them stay.  Nothing would make the Islamic terrorists in Baghdad happier.

ILLEGAL ALIENS' NEW VOICE IN WASHINGTON

One of the single largest keys to the defeat of Republicans in Washington isn't getting much play.  In poll after poll, nothing infuriated the base more than the GOP's inaction on illegal immigration. 

It's going to get worse.

Expect one of the first acts of bipartisanship in January to be the passage of George W. Bush's amnesty program for illegal aliens.  How many?  About 12 million ... for starters.  There will be nothing done to stem the tide of the Mexican invasion ... so count on another 12 million in just a few years.  The very nature of our culture is being changed by this invasion ... and politicians will do nothing to stop it.  It's about their power, not our culture.

It's a huge issue...and the mainstream media is missing it...by choice, of course.  As crime rates surge in communities hardest hit by the illegal alien invasion, we are preparing to give them all a guest worker card.  And all that's going to do is encourage more invaders to stream across the border.  The Republicans tried to appease the issue before the election with the 700-mile border wall...but that was a day late and about 1300 miles too short.  It's a complete joke.

THINKING LIBERTARIAN?

After the Republicans handed the Congress to the Democrats, perhaps it is time to take a closer look at the Libertarian Party.  When I was finally standing in a voting booth last week with a ballot in hand I just couldn't bring myself to vote Republican.  To be honest, there was no Republican running for Congress or the Senate ... and with the fight against Islamic fascism being the paramount issue I might well have voted for Republicans there .. but since there were none, it was a straight Libertarian vote for me.  Where Libertarians weren't running I wrote in Clark Howard.

In Wyoming the Libertarian Party has earned major party status, this by virtue of the candidacy of Dennis Brossman for Secretary of State.  Brossman earned 18% of the vote.

Advocates for Self-Government.  These are the people who developed The World's Smallest Political Quiz.

Libertarianism.com  A one-stop, quick and clear introduction to the Libertarian philosophy.

The Cato Institute, a very respected Libertarian Think Tank in Washington DC.  The institute is named for Cato's Letters, a series of libertarian pamphlets that helped lay the philosophical foundation for the American Revolution. 

The Reason Foundation, organized in 1968 to advance a free society by developing, applying and promoting libertarian principles, including individual liberty, free markets and the rule of law.  Reason is an incredible resource for policy studies on many issues.

Yes .. both of the major political parties have a libertarian caucus.  The Republican Liberty Caucus and the Democratic Freedom Caucus.

The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE).  This is one of the oldest free-market organizations in the United States.  Just one year younger than I am, as a matter of fact.  I love their mission statement:  "FEE's mission is to offer the most consistent case for the "first principles" of freedom: the sanctity of private property, individual liberty, the rule of law, the free market, and the moral superiority of individual choice and responsibility over coercion."

LewRockwell.com.  Now Lew Rockwell doesn't like me all that much.  After all, his website says "anti-state, anti-war, pro-market."  I'm not anti-war.  I believe that there are times that you fight to protect your liberties, and, yes, I believe sometimes you have to fight preemptively. Regardless of what Lew Rockwell thinks of me, it's a great site. 

Brad Edmonds writes on How I Became a Libertarian.  Lew Rockwell says that "Neal Boortz did something right."

This is just a beginning.  Many of these sites, especially the Advocates page, have many more links for you to explore.

It is clear that something is terribly wrong in Washington right now.  We just went through an election where principles of individual liberty and limited government were not even on the table.  I am hard-pressed to name one leading Republican or Democrat who still extols the virtues of freedom, individualism, free markets and limited government.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

If you ever thought China was a friend and an ally, think again.  It's been discovered that a Chinese submarine was secretly stalking the U.S.S. Kittyhawk.  This evidently happened October 26th.  So much for improved U.S.-Chinese relations.

John McCain is already getting started on his 2008 run for the White House.  According to ABC, McCain has decided to pursue the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.  He'll have plenty of competition...Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, etc.

The U.S. government is saying they think Fidel Castro has terminal cancer.  So how many Democrats do you think will attend his funeral?  Just Jimmy Carter?  How about a Congressional delegation?  You can bet the Democrats will send somebody.

Incredibly, despite getting beaten decisively at the polls...House Republican members seem to be ready to re-elect some or all of the current leadership.  Robert Novak calls this one the way he sees it....stupid.

Lincoln Chafee, the Leftist "Republican" Senator from Rhode Island, has written an op-ed for the New York Times in which he complains about losing the election.  After all, as Senator Chafee points out...he did vote against the war in Iraq.

The mainstream media has written off George W. Bush as a lame duck...but Fred Barnes argues otherwise.  He says the president can indeed be a very live duck in his final two years of his presidency.  What can Bush do?  Read on to find out.

Mark Steyn says Donald Rumsfeld shouldn't have been fired the day after the election.  He compares that reaction the reaction of the Spanish people in 2004 after the Madrid train bombing.  It's a sign of weakness against the terrorists.

Michael Barone points out something that may not be so obvious to people who were defeated last Tuesday.  Now that Democrats are in charge, they're responsible for running the place.  He also says House Republicans should be prepared to be ignored.

Why did the Republican Party lose their majorities in the House and Senate last week?  Star Parker offers her post-mortem analysis. She doesn't think the election was about any particular issue, despite others saying it was all about Iraq.

Jeff Jacoby says the GOP got the boot not because they were too conservative, but because they weren't conservative enough.  This is evident on so many fronts...spending, government expansion, illegal immigration, and so on.  Still, Jacoby says it was nothing short of a debacle.
