JOHN MURTHA COMPLAINS ABOUT "ATTACKS"

Poor John Murtha...he is complaining about "swift-boat style" attacks on him while he is running for House Majority Leader.  In particular, he's upset about red flags that have been raised about ethics issues involving his lobbyist brother.  He's comparing them to the attacks on John Kerry's military service in 2004.  If that's the case, then all of the allegations must be true.  At any rate Congressman Murtha, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

The battle at the present moment is between Congressman Steny Hoyer and Murtha, both of whom are running for House Majority Leader.  Hoyer says he has the votes...but Murtha has the support of the anti-war Left and also Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi.  Who will win?  Who knows.  Murtha thinks he deserves credit for the mid-term gains the Democrats made in the elections.  He believes his anti-Iraq war positions are responsible for the Democrats' success.

Murtha is, to be kind, ethically challenged.  I'll discuss some of the particulars on the air today.  For those of you who actually care .. perhaps you would like to read this John Fund article about the background of the soon-to-be Majority Leader of the House.  However -- if you're a Democrat it would be best to leave this article alone.  You don't want to have your fantasy world shaken so soon.

Also ... a question.  If it was Murtha's anti-war stance that carried the day for the Democrats, then how do you explain why Ned Lamont didn't beat Joe Lieberman?  There were more issues than just Iraq on voters' minds.  Can you imagine if a Republican faced the kinds of questions Murtha is facing?  Lobbyist brother?  Abscam?  They'd run any Republican out of town with that kind of baggage.

The Democrats vote -- secret ballot -- on the issue of majority leader today.  My bet is that Murtha wins.  All of this talk of fighting corruption was no more than an election year ploy.  Pelosi's the boss now, and Pelosi gets what she wants ... even a corrupt majority leader.

HEY .. Y'ALL MEXICANS!  OLLY OLLY OXEN FREE!

We learn today that now that the Democrats are in control of the Congress they may just decide not to build that 700-mile fence along portions of the U.S. Border with Mexico.  Word is that the law that mandates the fence, the law that was signed with much ceremony just a few weeks ago at the White House, will be reviewed by the new, more-powerful Democrats, and may be scrapped.

Please .. I hope you're not surprised.  Democrats look at every single Mexican who comes across that border as a potential future vote.  With the new showing of Democrat strength you can expect to see efforts to allow non-citizens to vote in local elections intensified in heavily Latino population centers.  First will be school board elections.  After all, we have to educate their children, don't we?  So why shouldn't they vote in school board elections?  Next will be elections for city councils, county commissions ... and onward.

The Democrats have an advantage here.  The president is on their side.  Right now we're hearing much more talk in Washington about amnesty than we are about controlling our borders.  Amnesty for 12 million illegals next year .. then how many more do you think will stream into this country by the time we're voting in the 2008 presidential election?

Oh ... Some Vatican hot-shot is chiming in here too.  Cardinal Renato Martino, a senior Vatican cardinal, is saying that the fence is part of an "inhuman program."  He makes a connection to the Berlin Wall.  Hint to anyone who wants to do that.  The Berlin Wall was built to keep people from leaving, not arriving.  Huge difference there.

How long before Spanish becomes the default language in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California?

Bill N. sends us this timely piece with the suggested caption "Shall I carve?"

OH NO ... NOT US TOO?

While getting ready for the show today I was listening to a newscast on my home radio station, Atlanta's News-Talk 750 WSB. One of our intrepid news ferrets was telling the story of a North Georgia County that was considering an ordinance to find apartment and home owners who rent residences to illegal aliens.  Only he didn't call them "illegal aliens."  Political correctness has infiltrated our own newsroom.  Say it ain't so.  He referred to them as "undocumented immigrants."  Sigh.

NO TO RUDI

Earlier this week we learned that Rudolph Giuliani has filed papers to form an exploratory committee.  That's the first step to running for president.  Well .. .it didn't take long for the religious right to announce that up with this they will not put.  Colleen Parro, the head of some group called the Republican National Coalition for Life says that Giuliani is "absolutely unacceptable under any circumstances."  The two issues she cited?  Homosexuals and abortion.

Now ... what was it I said earlier this week that made so many zealots so unhappy?  Oh yeah .. it was something about us needing a political movement dedicated to individual and economic liberty, limited government with a strong defense, cutting government spending, school choice and strong capitalist instincts ..  and one that had no desire to force the people of this country to live under any particular codification of religious dogma.

Good luck on that.

HARRY REID SAYS BUSH DOESN'T GET IT

Harry Reid has gone public with the accusation that President Bush is not hearing the public on the issue of Iraq.  He says the president needs pushing.  Pushing for what?  Surrender, that's what.  Harry Reid wants to cut and run in Iraq...and the president does not.  One wants victory, the other does not.  It's that simple.  So how do we end the stalemate?

One of the biggest hands the Democrats could play would be to pass legislation to cut off funding for the war in Iraq.  Harry Reid says he won't do that...as if he's somehow being charitable.  The reality is he doesn't have the votes to do so...or he would.  With a razor-thin 51 seat majority in the Senate (that includes two independents,) Reid can't do it.  Not to mention it would be political suicide...cutting off the troops' funding is no way to win a war, and the public knows it.

So this will be a huge battle in the new Congress.  The Democrats like Harry Reid want us out of Iraq at any cost...and the president wants to stay and fight.  Which one do you think the Islamic terrorists killing Americans in Iraq want to prevail?

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

Why that's an odd place for a toilet paper dispenser. Unless, of course, you're a redneck.  More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Last week Congressman Charlie Rangel was complaining about how much federal money Mississippi gets and wondered why anyone would want to live there.  Herman Cain says that just shows the left's usual contempt for middle America, and we can expect more of it now that Democrats are in charge.

It's being reported that the freedom of Fox News' Steve Centanni and his cameraman was bought earlier this year after they were captured in the Palestinian territories.  The price for their freedom:  $2 million dollars.  Surprised?  This very thing probably goes on all the time.

Don't believe the reports that the world is running out of oil.  According to one estimate, peak global oil production is still at least 25 years away.  Which means there are trillions of barrels of oil still beneath the Earth...yet to be discovered.

O.J. Simpson, no doubt needing money or attention, has agreed to an interview
on Fox News.  He will supposedly tell the world how he would have committed the murders that he actually committed...if he had done it.  Is Fox News really this desperate for ratings?

60% of those polled believe people who smoke and the obese should have to pay more
for health insurance.  On top of that, the health insurance industry is now favoring a plan for universal health care coverage...socialized medicine.  We're surely doomed now.

It looks like voters may be losing confidence in the Democrats already.
A new poll finds that 57% of the public say Democrats do not have a plan for Iraq.  This shows one of two things:  either a whole bunch of voters stayed home last Tuesday or the American people are a fickle bunch.

John Stossel takes on the issue of racism in profiling a new book in his latest column.  He says the problem today isn't so much white privilege and the man keeping people down, it's irresponsibility on the part of certain people.  Always controversial, never boring.

Tony Blankley looks at what it's going to take to put a Republican majority
back together in Congress.  He says it's not so much that Republicans lost their way and weren't conservative enough, it's that the party's coalition fell apart.

Nancy Pelosi said before the election that it might take a female Speaker of the House to clean up Washington.  Then, right after her party wins, she backs the corrupt John Murtha to be House Majority Leader.  Michelle Malkin calls out the hypocrisy.

Historically, blacks have been some of the most reliable Democratic voters there are.  The reason?  Because it's always been thought that government programs help people of color get ahead.  But Walter E. Williams isn't so sure...and has his research at the ready.
