THIS SHOULD SCARE THE HELL OUT OF YOU

Is George Bush ready to go along with the Democrats on a tax increase?  Lawrence Lindsey of The American Enterprise Institute certainly thinks so.  In this article entitled "Compromised" Lindsey suggests that Bush may be signalling his willingness to go along with Democrats on a tax increase.  A huge tax increase.  In fact, the tax increase would bring the tax level on the evil, wicked, wretched, nasty, filthy rich to a level not seen since the Carter Administration .. if then.

Here's the rumor:  Bush is going to go along with a Democrat plan to eliminate the earnings cap on Social Security taxes.  This would only affect people who make over $100,000 a year.  The greatest impact would be on those who's income is measured in seven figures.  Lindsey writes that the new effective tax rate for entrepreneurs would go up by more than 10 percent.  Then, in 2011, it would go up another 4.3%.  That's almost a 15% tax increase over five years.

More on this later .. but I just though I would fire a shot across your bow now.  Better read the article and grab your wallets.

DEMOCRATS UNVEIL THEIR IRAQ PLAN

Senator Barack Obama gave a speech yesterday calling for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.  He used the Democratic code phrase for surrender: "phased redeployment."  Sounds like the insurgency in Iraq has a new best friend.  But really, it's the same story over and over again.  The tune from the Democrats on Iraq hasn't changed one bit since the 2004 election.  They simply want us to cut and run in Iraq. In some corners that might be known as surrender.

Other than criticizing the administration and saying President Bush wasn't prosecuting the war in Iraq right, not a single Democrat has stepped forward with a solution to Iraq.  Obama is no different.  Do they really think total surrender is a policy?  Is the United States going to somehow be better off with Al-Qaeda running the show in Baghdad?

And sadly, the media will never call them on it.  They're being given a pass on Iraq.  Democrats are allowed to criticize the war without offering an alternate plan.  It's the worst possible criticism:  telling somebody what they're doing is wrong without offering any possible way to make it better.  But that's been the media double-standard on Iraq since the fall of Baghdad.

So it doesn't matter if the Democrats pick their best orator to deliver the same tired policy.  It's still a bad idea.  But if they've got any ideas on Iraq...we're listening.  They just haven't had any yet.

In the meantime ... the Islamic fascists are smiling.  The great Satan is turning yellow.

DRAFT IDEA SHOT DOWN

Just like Charlie Rangel knew it would be, the idea for reinstating the military draft has been shot down.  Even Democrats denounced the idea.  Nancy Pelosi says she doesn't favor the draft.  The incoming chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Carl Levin said the draft isn't needed.  But the draft wasn't really the point of Rangel's little publicity stunt.

The idea was to stir up the Bush-haters in the media enough to float the idea of the draft.  The goal of the Democrats is to drive President Bush's poll numbers down so far and to drive the unpopularity of the war up so high, that their goal of total surrender is achieved.  What better way then to whip the public up into a frenzy about the draft.

So now people are standing around water coolers all over the country talking about the "reinstatement of the draft."  This despite the fact that Rangel's idea was DRT.

NOW THEY TELL US

You will recall that just before the election a few weeks ago the media was chock full of stories about how bad our economy really is.  The middle class was disappearing, wages were down, foreclosures were up ... and the people just knew that things weren't going well on the economic front.

That was then ... before the election.  This is now.

Guess what?  Yesterday The Christian Science Monitor informed us that we have experienced a brisk rise in American wages?  Who would have believed it?  Wages actually going up, you say?  Not only are wages going up, but they're going up at a rate not seen since the 1990s.

Well, you've probably guessed by now that these wages really didn't start going up until after the election -- after the Democrats so soundly trounced the Republicans.   You might have guessed that, but you would be wrong.  We're just now learning that this incredible increase in American wages has been going on for a year!  We're up over 4% over the past 12 months?

OK .. you know where this is going.  Why wasn't this story told by the media before the 2006 midterm elections? Why wait until after?

You're kidding me, right?

JUST LET THE DEMOCRATS HANDLE IT

As usual, the Republican Congress is nearing the end of another session without having done the work we hired them to do.  They'll be returning to Washington after Thanksgiving to face about five hundred billion dollars in spending bills that have to be acted on.

Or not.

At this point it looks like the Republicans are going to punt.  Just pass a resolution to continue spending at the present levels, and let the Democrats handle everything else when they take over in January.

There are several ways to look at this.  First, it's clear that these people up there just aren't getting the work done.  Congressmen and Senators spend far few days working in Washington now than they did, say, thirty years ago.  A four and one-half day work week used to be the norm, with congressmen leaving around noon on Friday to head to their home districts --- at taxpayer's expense, of course.  Then the Monday work days started getting truncated as they started returning on Mondays instead of Sundays.  Now leaders from both parties will joke that the only way to assure a good turnout for a vote on a bill is to schedule that vote for Wednesday.  These appropriations bills should have been finished long ago.  They weren't.

On the other hand, it is somewhat amusing to see the Republicans dump this workload on the Democrats.   It's certainly going to play havoc with Democrat plans for rewarding their union troops by raising the minimum wage, enforcing price controls on pharmaceutical companies and punishing oil companies for succumbing to the law of supply and demand.   Besides .. these spending bills as they now stand are loaded to the gills with Republican pork.  Who knows, maybe the Democrats will get rid of some of the earmarks.

The next two years are going to be such fun.

BANNED AT MARQUETTE

Remember Dave Barry?  Retired now.  Good for him.  A great humorist, though apparently they don't think so at Marquette University.

It seems that many university graduate students like to hang little sayings, news clippings, pictures and whatnot outside their office doors.  A Marquette grad student did just that, and along comes James South, the Chairman of the Philosophy Department, who orders the offending item removed.

So ... what was the item, and why was it so offensive?  It was a quote from a Dave Barry column.  To (as they say in the legal profession0 wit:

"As Americans, we must always remember that we all have a common enemy, an enemy that is dangerous, powerful and relentless. I refer, of course, to the federal government."

South says that the quotation is "patently offensive."  Ohhhhhhhh.  That, by the way, is the same term Marquette uses to define hard-core porn.

Well .. to many university professors, any negative statement regarding our Imperial Federal Government is, in fact, hard-core porn; such is their love for government.

TODAY'S HOMOSEXUAL ALERT!

No .. I'm not going to tell you that one of your coworkers is gay, and is hiding that because he knows of your homophobia.  I'm not even going to tell you that your neighborhood has a secret homosexual cell that meets at 3:00 a.m. on Thursdays in your garage to sacrifice a chicken and to plot how to lure your son into their world.

Nope ... this is about two penguins.  Two penguins at the Central Park Zoo in New York City. Oh .. .and a baby penguin as well.  It seems that these two penguins ... both males by the way ... adopted an abandoned fertilized egg.  They sat on the egg until it hatched, and then raised the baby penguin as their own.

Isn't that cute?

I guess it was cute, right up until the time someone wrote a children's book titled "And Tango Makes Three."  The book is all about these two penguins adopting the egg, and raising little Tango to penguin adulthood.  The book, you see, is available in some school libraries around the country, and some parents don't seem to like that one little bit.

At the Shiloh Elementary (government) School in Shiloh, Missouri some parents demanded that the book be kept away from younger children.  Why?  Well .... now hold tight ... because of its homosexual undertones!  School Superintendent Jennifer Filyaw says the book will stay put.  She must be a closet dike, right?

Just remember folks.  Somewhere today, unless you hide under your bed, you might actually come within actual touching distance of a real, honest-to-goodness homosexual!  You had better wear a mask and stock up on that hand sanitizing stuff.

JUST SAY NO TO MURDERERS WRITING BOOK

Well good for Rupert Murdoch.  Yesterday he decided that Fox was not going to air that two-part interview with the butcher O.J. Simpson.  He also decided that Regan Books would just have to find something else to publish ... O.J. book was going in the trash heap.

Well .. this is actually good news and bad news.  Since the book won't be out there we won't be able to identify the truly sick and demented among us by observing them with a copy.  Actually, if you had purchased that book you would have been better off removing the cover and replacing it with the cover from Mein Kampf.

I'm just waiting for the day that I wake up and turn on the radio to find out that O.J. has been killed in an attack on another woman.  Can't happen soon enough.

U.S. MOST UNFRIENDLY COUNTRY

According to a poll of some two thousand international travelers, the United States is the most unfriendly country in the world.  The reason:  visa problems and unfriendly immigration officials.  Perhaps if the United States is such a terrible place, then these supposedly upset visitors should just stay home.  Now that's not very friendly, is it?

Evidently since 9/11 there is this idea out there that immigration officials are rude and that if your paperwork is the least bit out of order, you'll get deported.  Somebody please tell that to the 20 million Mexicans that are here illegally.  So if the United States is such a terrible place then why are so many people trying to get in?

The United States is not the most unfriendly country.  How on Earth could we be considered more unfriendly than say...France?  Or Iran?  How about North Korea?  In fact, we're probably just a bit too friendly.

We see these poll results because it's in vogue now to trash the United States.  Trashing the U.S. will remain a favored pastime of Euro-wimps right up until the time they realize that they are about to be officially renamed Eurabia ... and they come running to us for help.

By the way ... who wants our country to be judged on the attitude of government employees?

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Six Muslim imams were yanked off a plane in Minneapolis and questioned by authorities
before being let go.  It turns out passengers on the flight weren't too keen on flying with them.  I can't imagine why.  Naturally, CAIR, Council on American-Islamic Relations will be filing a complaint.  Too bad.

Outgoing U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan says the United States is trapped in Iraq.  He also says the war could have been prevented if the nuclear inspectors would have had more time.  Oh..I see...so 12 years wasn't enough?

Mort Kondracke looks at what the Bush Administration's agenda might be like in the last two years of his presidency.  Seems the White House may be squaring off against the Democrats over free trade.  Many on the left prefer protectionist policies to protect American industries.

Whether or not Donald Rumsfeld is responsible for the way the war went in Iraq almost doesn't matter now.  Thomas Sowell says Washington D.C. is like a meat grinder...chewing up and spitting out those who go there to serve in important positions.

The new Iraqi Survey Group, an organization that was assembled by President Bush to advise him on the war in Iraq, is being led by former Secretary of State James Baker.  But Christopher Hitches is no fan of Baker's...he says James Baker is the last guy we should be listening to on Iraq.

November 7, 2006 was not a good day for the Republican Party.  They lost both houses of Congress.  But Jay Cost says it could have been worse...much, much worse.  By his calculations, the GOP was lucky to have done as well as it did.

Professor Mike Adams recounts one of his recent dreams in his latest column.  In this dream, he is invited to speak to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  The topic:  feminism.  You can only begin to imagine what happened next.  Always an entertaining read.

The passing of Milton Friedman led many in the media to write his obituary, only mentioning his devotion to the free market.  But Cal Thomas says many missed his crusade of the past 10 years:  school choice.  The Friedmans were particularly voted to the cause.

David Limbaugh says the last thing President Bush should do in the next two years is give in to the Democrats and give them whatever they want in the spirit of "bipartisanship."  He points out that the Democrats don't have a mandate for their agenda because they didn't present one in the election.

Nancy Pelosi said during the run-up to the mid-term election that her first priority on day one as Speaker would be ethics reform.  Why then did she try to install the ethically-challenged John Murtha as House Majority Leader?  Star Parker wants to know.
