AIR AMERICA ON THE ROPES

OK .. so I'm on vacation.  But I just had to chime in here to say that I hope that the rumors that Air America is going to file Bankruptcy are not true.

Is Air America a commercial success?  No, it isn't.  Air America is nowhere near the point where it can be supported by advertising sales. Air America has always relied on massive infusions of cash from leftist special interest groups and people like George Soros.  In fact ... I've even contributed to the cause of keeping Air America on the air, though not what you would by any means call a significant amount.

The entire business plan for Air America is greatly different than  that for Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham or myself.   Air America pays radio stations to run their programming.  We do not.   When you get as good as The Godfather, stations pay you.

I want Air America to survive for two reasons:

First; I truly believe that all viewpoints need to be expressed in the talk radio forum.   Talk radio is too much of a part of our national discourse to present only one side of the political spectrum.  Having said that, whatever diversity of opinion we find in talk radio should come from the actions of the marketplace, not by government force or fiat.  If it takes private donations to accomplish that goal by keeping Air America on the air ... so be it.

Secondly; I promise you that if Air America fails, and if leftist talk show hosts disappear from the scene, the left is going to howl like a stuck pig and demand a resurrection of the infamous "Fairness Doctrine."  Richard Nixon used the Fairness Doctrine to shut down liberal thoughts on the radio.  Democrats will not hesitate a heartbeat to do the same if and when they have the power to do so.

So ... I'm going to try to help Air America out a bit here.  This is a link to Air America Radio Premium.  Click on the link and sign up.  You'll be encouraging  the free flow of different opinions and thoughts, plus you'll be protecting the talk radio you actually like to listen to from falling to government regulation.

TONY BLAIR NAILS THE AXIS OF WEASELS

This is priceless.

t has taken, of all people, British Prime Minister Tony Blair to call out the anti-American politicians all over Europe. Blair said today that if the world is going to fight a war against terrorism, then it needs the United States on board to get it done. He also said that Europe's anti-Americanism is not in their best interests: "The strain of, frankly, anti-American feeling in parts of European politics is madness when set against the long-term interests of the world we believe in." That pretty much hits the nail on the head.

However, this further explains why politicians in Britain are trying to run Blair out of office early. Like Bush, Blair is a man of action when it comes to foreign policy. They runs counter to the European tradition of talking everything to death. So they hate him. And who are they? Aside from assorted members of his own Labour Party, this would include the entire Axis of Weasels: France, Spain, Germany, and so on.

Tony Blair could have pulled a Neville Chamberlain and chosen the well-worn path to appeasement after 9/11. He could have opposed the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as was the popular thing to do in Europe at the time. However, he took another route....and decided to stand with the United States against the scourge of Islamic terrorism.

Perhaps when he wraps things up next year in his own country, Blair could come here and run for president. We could change the Constitution and he could run against The Hildabeast!

IRAN CHANGES ITS TUNE

Interesting news this morning from the crackpot who calls himself the president of Iran. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says his country is ready to negotiate and open to new conditions over its nuclear enrichment program. Why the sudden outpouring of generosity? Well, let's take a look.

Actually, this is quite calculated. Iran has no intention of stopping its nuclear program. They're just playing a card from Saddam Hussein's well-worn U.N. sanctions deck. It goes like this. The United States tells Iran it has to abandon its nuclear weapons program or face sanctions. Iran is defiant...at first. But then things change.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad might be crazy, but he's no dummy. He knows that he can gain the upper hand if he starts to look reasonable in the eyes of the world and the U.S. unreasonable. He knows that many hate the United States and he is selectively visiting those countries where his message will get the best play, like his speech today in Senegal.

Next up on his list of organizations to manipulate is the American mainstream media. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (where would we be without cutting and pasting?) is going to be visiting the United States next week and making a speech at the United Nations. If he sells the lie that he is willing to negotiate over his nuclear program, but the United States is still trying to punish Iran, it will make him look better.

And the media in this country will be falling all over themselves to present this Islamic terrorist in a friendly light, just like they've done in the past with the tyrant Fidel Castro. Democrats will be along for the ride, too...since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sounds like he could be a spokesman for the DNC.

GOP INFIGHTING OVER GITMO TRIBUNALS

Right now down at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, we are holding several Islamic terrorists prisoner. These scumbags are the worst of the worst: captured Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters as well as other high-value targets and enemies of the state.

Hopefully there are a few Democrat thrown in as well.

These people are not soldiers in any sort of organized Army. They are simply enemy combatants...people without a country who took up arms against the United States and tried to kill Americans. So here's where the controversy comes in....what to do with them?

Legally, we can do anything we want. Since they don't even come close to meeting the definition of a prisoner of war under the Geneva Conventions.  It would even be well within our rights to line them up and shoot them. But, we're the United States, and we don't do that sort of thing. We treat people humanely. So, with that in mind, the accommodations down at Club Gitmo are quite deluxe. The best thing that ever happened to these worthless Islamic terrorist dirt bags is that they were captured by us. Free room and board in a tropical climate...plus daily prayer service....what else is there?

So now the Bush Administration wants to put these terrorists on trial...give them military tribunals. The U.S. Supreme Court stepped in awhile back, saying the administration had to change their plans a bit. So this leads us to the United States Senate. The Bush people want to change how we interpret the Geneva Conventions, to keep CIA interrogators from being tried as war criminals.

But Senators John McCain, John Warner and Lindsey Graham, both Republicans, say no. They say that would set a dangerous precedent because other countries would try to do it. Were other countries attacked on 9/11? I think not. Talk about irony...who would've thought Al-Qaeda would've found such allies in the Senate?

What's next? Running all the terrorists at Gitmo through our own court system? It could be.

Sorry ... no reading assignments.  Go get a good book.
