INTEMPERATE THOUGHTS

Nancy Pelosi is now making noises about a trip to Iran.  The appeasement duo of Pelosi and Lantos continue their usurpation of the presidential responsibility for foreign policy.  Are the Democrats overplaying their hand?  Is their hatred of George Bush such that they will try to supplant the presidency with the Speaker of the House and a radical leftist congressman from California?  Sure looking that way.

One of the worse consequences of the absurd Imus controversy is that Al Sharpton has been further elevated as an apparent leader of Black America.  He's a crass opportunist who's actions have led to the deaths of innocents.  Don Imus has never said anything that lead to innocent people dying.  Al Sharpton has.  Now Sharpton is leading the media in a chant for the head of Imus.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution has upped the ante.  Now they want the guy who was talking to Imus on the phone about the Rutgers basketball team fired.  Hey ... here's a suggestion.  How about firing the guy at the dump button too!  He could have cut the comment off the air, but he didn't.  An obvious racist and his livelihood should be taken away from him.

Madonna believes in man-made global warming.  OK, now I'm convinced.

A government school in the Northeast banned the Easter Bunny from appearing at a craft fair held at the school over the weekend.  The superintendent insisted that the bunny be named Peter Rabbit or it could not appear.  Now we all know that "passing a law effecting an establishment of religion" means allowing the Easter Bunny to show up at a craft fair at a government-operated school on a weekend.

Some are now estimating that Iran may be just one year away from developing a nuclear weapon.  That certainly gives us cause for concern, but nothing should  be done until we've dealt with the Imus situation.

PERKY COURIC PULLS A RATHER

There's problems at CBS....and it seems all that is old is new again.  CBS must've thought when they replaced Dan Rather with Bob Schieffer and then Katie Couric that they would have none of the problems they had with Rather's forged National Guard documents story.  Unfortunately, they were embarrassed yesterday when it was announced that a CBS producer had been fired for plagiarizing a story Katie Couric posted in her blog and read on the air.  There they go again....blaming the producer.

So we're told that Couric just posted and read what the producer wrote...not her fault.  Nice cop out there...the media might even let her get away with it.  But doesn't she check what's written?  Isn't she the editor in charge of her own broadcast?  Apparently not....the Wall Street Journal noticed what she was reading was almost exactly what was written in a piece in the Journal.  Oops.  The producer in question was fired and the Journal writer was given credit.

It took a little while for people to notice...seems the CBS Evening News is in third place.  In fact, their ratings are lower than they were with the creaky Bob Schieffer holding up the anchor desk.  But notice the lack of outrage here.....a major network news telecast plagiarizes a story and hardly anyone cares.  Ann Coulter is accused of copying something...and well, that's a national emergency.

Media bias...this time about the media itself. Amazing, isn't it?

NORTH KOREA DOES IT AGAIN

So despite saying for years that we wouldn't, the Bush Administration has been negotiating directly with North Korea.  The United States gave North Korea access to $25 million in a frozen bank account in exchange for shutting down a nuclear reactor by the weekend.  Now The Norks say they won't be shutting down that reactor by this weekend.  Anybody surprised?  I certainly hope not.

And why should they shut down the reactor?  Why should they do anything?  They got what they wanted...the cash.  And the United States government is left holding the bag...a victim of The Gargoyle's negotiating tactics.  But we have no one else to blame.  We apparently haven't learned from the other broken agreements The Norks haven't honored.  So what now?

Bill Richardson, the former UN Ambassador who recently went to Pyongyang, says The Gargoyle is going to shut down the reactor, but it might take a little while longer.  The ATM machine at the bank with the frozen funds is scheduled to open today or tomorrow....we'll see what happens.  And even if North Korea closes the reactor, what's to say they won't open another one?

And so it goes when you negotiate with the enemy.  Since they can't be trusted, they'll just say whatever they have to in order to get what they want.  By the way, they're supposed to be letting in some U.N. inspectors.  Sound familiar?  Here we go again.

Even people who disagree with what Don Imus said should stop and ask themselves this question:  what about the First Amendment?  Should Imus be banned from saying something just because people don't like what he has to say?  Michael Meyers, a former director at the NAACP, weighs in on the subject in an excellent op-ed piece in the Washington Post this morning.

Not satisfied with going to Syria and cavorting with our enemies there, Nancy Pelosi is considering traveling to Iran.  I think Madame Speaker is confused...she's second in line to the presidency...not the actual second president.  Perhaps she wants to compare high heels with Ahmadinejad.

There's been one person who hasn't jumped on the outrage train regarding Don Imus' comments on MSNBC:  Barack Obama.  Apparently the media is alarmed that Obama waited until Monday to condemn the remarks and hasn't called for Imus to be fired.  Could it be that he doesn't really care?

With all of the talk lately about global warming, it may lead one to wonder if there is even such a thing.  Why?  Because we are about to complete the coldest April on record...at least for New York.  How do the environmental extremists explain that one?

Ever wonder how much the millions of illegal aliens in this country are costing you and me?  Well, somebody has finally figured it out.  According to a study by the Heritage Foundation, that number is $2.2 trillion.  And did you know the number of illegals is now somewhere between 12 million and 15 million?  Used to just be 11 million.  The invasion continues.

Rudy Giuliani hasn't stepped into a grocery store lately....and it caused him a bit of political embarrassment yesterday.  He was asked by a reporter how much a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread costs these days.  He struck out on both counts..declaring a gallon of milk was $1.50.  Oops.

Here's a question:  if the war in Iraq is so unpopular, then why do all of the major Republican Party candidates for president support it?  Now Mitt Romney says he backs President Bush on the war, joining Rudy and John McCain with the same stance.  Why are they doing this?  Because they realize the American people don't want to cut and run either.

John Stossel examines the naming of buildings and structures after politicians.  And he's not just talking about dead politicians like Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington.  He says current, living members of Congress are slapping their names on stuff left and right...and it's out of control.

Rich Lowry can't help but note the irony between the Bush Administration's Iraq policy

and his policy against illegal aliens.  On the one hand, we're supposed to send more troops to Iraq and re-establish law and order.  But when it comes to the Southern border, we're supposed to surrender and invite more in.  Interesting take indeed!

Professor Mike Adams, who doesn't care for Don Imus either, absolutely cannot stand Al Sharpton.  In his latest column, he points out that he too has been the victim of racism...but he reacted to it in a very different way.  So now Adams has some choice words for Sharpton.

Discussion on fark about this thing Neal wrote yesterday about Obama & Clinton turning down the Fox News presidential debate turns into a war on Fox News in the comments. Fun!

Can you believe the number of drugs found in Anna Nicole Smith's body? Her medicine cabinet must be the size of a walk-in closet.
