But the reporter, Kirk Semple, points to a simple yet crucial reason as to why this turn has occurred: "While the anti-American sheiks in Anbar and Al Qaeda both opposed the Americans, their goals were different. The sheiks were part of a relatively moderate front that sought to drive the Americans out of Iraq; some were also fighting to restore Sunni Arab power. But Al Qaeda wanted to go even further and impose a fundamentalist Islamic state in Anbar, a plan that many of the sheiks did not share.... For all the sheiks' hostility toward the Americans, they realized that they had a bigger enemy, or at least one that needed to be fought first, as a matter of survival." This is what I have been saying all along folks. You can't fight "terror" because terror is a tactic. You can't attempt to establish democracy and freedom when you are constantly worried about your basic need to just survive. Only once you have gotten rid of your threat to survival-Al Qaeda-can you finally work towards greater ideals and goals. By the way ... I began this entry with the phrase "good news from Iraq." Remember this: Good news from Iraq is almost always bad news for the Defeatocrats. Democrats are truly invested in our defeat in Iraq. They feel that they have no chance of regaining full control in Washington if Iraq starts to go our way. With every bit of good news from Iraq look for Defeatocrats to become more vocal in their demands for immediate withdrawal. Oh ... and the media, of course, will be more than willing to help them along.
Mistakes were made in Iraq, but that, in no way, makes George W. Bush a war criminal. He is not like Serbian war criminal Milosevic or Iraq's Saddam Hussein, both of whom tortured and abused innocent civilians. Calling for Impeachment of your own President because of Iraq not only attempts to place George W. Bush on this hideous level, but also makes the rest of the world think it is ok to do the same. If there is any great threat to our peace, it is John Murtha's insistence of weakening his own country. For the first time in his relatively lackluster career in politics, Murtha is in the spotlight. He gets recognized in all the fine restaurants, and the interview shows on TV are calling every day. Pretty impressive stuff. Impressive enough to betray our men and women and uniform, not to mention our country.
Just below this you'll see a link from Americans for Fair Taxation. Please click on it and consider coming to the FairTax Rally in Columbia, South Carolina late in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 15th. That night Fox News Channel will be broadcasting the Republican presidential candidates "debate" from Columbia. In fact, the location for the debate is right across the parking lot from the Carolina Coliseum, the location for the FairTax Rally. It has become clear to more and more people, politicians included, that our current tax system is in deep trouble. The Alternative Minimum Tax, a separate method of calculating income taxes that was designed many years ago to extract some money from a grand total of 155 individual taxpayers, will soon burden millions with additional taxes. Democrats have a plan for this --- raise taxes on the rich. The Social Security system is heading for disaster -- possibly before you are even eligible for benefits. Democrats have a plan for this --- raise taxes on the rich. America continues to fall lower on the list of countries with economic freedom. The outstanding value of all stocks on the European stock market now exceeds that of the United States. Other countries around the world are looking for ways to attract business and industry through a friendlier tax policy. None of this is good news for the future of our country. Passage of the FairTax would make America the world's number one tax haven. Americans would be able to invest their hard-earned money without having to first hand over huge portions to the federal government. No American would pay taxes to the federal government of any kind until the basic necessities of life have been acquired and paid for . The FairTax is the most thoroughly researched piece of legislation ever to be placed before the congress of the United States. It frightens politicians and liberals because it would constitute a massive transfer of power from the federal government to the people. A good crowd at this FairTax rally in Columbia could be one of the biggest pushes for the FairTax ever. Every one of those Republican presidential candidates would be thinking that if this many people would turn out for a rally --- how many would go to the polls to support this idea? Here's your fancy banner! Click on it! Delta Airlines emerges from bankruptcy today. That's good news for Atlanta and good news for the airline industry. The Neal Boortz Show joins in the congratulations. The police finally shot and killed the shooter .. but why did people being threatened by this man have to wait for the police to show up? Was this mall another one of those "gun free zones?" If a private citizen with a concealed carry permit had pulled out a gun and put this idiot out of our misery, would we have had another hysterical woman crying to the media that this private citizen had been allowed to carry a gun?
No .. we're not going to discuss abortion on the show. And no ... no emails mentioning the subject will ever be forwarded to me. But, this being my web page, I do get to express a thought here. The terminology for those opposed to a woman's right to chose should not be "pro life." Don't let them set the terms of the discussion like this. To call abortion opponents "pro life" is to say that those who support choice are "pro death." The appropriate labels are "pro choice" and "anti choice." Simple as that. Oh .. and before you click on the email link to share your thoughts with me on this. Remember .... if your email mentions abortion in any context whatsoever .. I'll never see it.

Rich Lowery writes that the Party of Defeat (that would be the Democrat Party) is having a big identity crisis because it can't admit what it really is ... which would be the Party of Defeat. Looks like Carl Bernstein is coming out with a book about Hillary! Advance news seems to indicate that he's going to tell us all what a liar she is. Perhaps there will be some new material as well. Mark Steyn calls Democrats "Defeatocrats." I like it. I like this column also. While we're screwing around on this side of the pond, our enemies are sizing ups up. We're not looking all that good either. "Reality bites" for the Democratic candidates as anti-war debates coincide with imminent threats from Al Qaeda and Saudi Arabian militants. It seems like there peace at any price strategy will not be able to fight the real threats to our freedom. I'm glad someone out there will say this: We might not have won the war against the Japanese if Jack Murtha had been around. At this point you need to wonder if America will ever win another war. After all, what if civilians are killed? Better to live as slaves than to kill a civilian, right? Uh Oh ... Global warming .... er, I mean ... uh ... climate change on Mars! But scientists have a convenient excuse, what there being no SUVs up there and all. God forbid we should blame it on a hotter sun! Hillary is jeered at a convention in California. Well .. it is California. Some of these people wouldn't fight to save their own mothers. Here are some details on Islamic terrorist plots recently, we hope, thwarted by the arrest of some Al Qaeda goons. Sooner or later, folks, some of these Muslim zealots are going to escape detection ... and there will be a helluva price to pay. Of course, it will all be George Bush's fault. Here's an interesting thought. Victor Davis Hanson says that one of the reasons the support for the war in Iraq is so unpopular is that the American people just can't bring themselves to care all that much about the Iraqi people. Oh yeah ... we're just going to love those wonderful environmentally correct compact fluorescent light bulbs. Unless, that is, we drop one and then have to pay the $2000 clean up bill. US News and World Report's Michael Barone agrees that a "gun-free zone" doesn't necessarily mean that you are safer. Politicians push for stricter gun control is only a false sense of security. If people want guns, they will always get them, and the government should not tell me that I can't protect myself. A woman owns a small bakery and is famous for her "Pig Tarts" (I'll leave it up to your imagination). But the county council (UK0 says she can't use that name...because they don't actually come from pigs. Why on earth are they wasting their time on the moniker of pastries! Get a life. Or a real job. Now, since the Dorset County Council doesn't have anything better to do, they need to get to work on "hamburgers." With each penny that you painfully hand over in government taxes, you can rest assured that at least a fraction of it is going to educate illegal Mexicans. Apparently Texans are still "debating" whether or not their taxes should be used to educate the thousands of illegal aliens crossing the border to abuse the privileges of US citizens. Debating?! The answer is simple, folks. Forget trying to get a Mohawk in Iran. Despite our many other reasons to feel all warm and fuzzy about Tehran, now it has officially banned "Western hairstyles." If you violate the policy you can expect fines, imprisonment and (my personal favorite) lashes. Oh ... and no plucking your eyebrows. China doesn't seem to be as miraculous and superpower-like as some would like you to think. City Journal tells us why this century will not be ruled by China. Thank goodness. But the United States isn't doing all that well either ..... Following the Virginia Tech tragedy they held a convocation. At that convocation religions leaders from four religions were asked to speak. Christian, Jewish, Buddhist and Muslim. Each one of these religions leaders quoted from the documents of their religion and spoke of their religions leaders. Each one, that is, except the Christian. Just incredible. Read Frank Pastore's column. This Thomas Sowell column is worth a read if for no other reason than because it includes this quote: "One of the many hard facts that get overlooked by those impressed by visions and rhetoric is that mass shootings almost invariably occur in gun-free zones like schools, workplaces, or houses of worship." Oh Boy. Now we're getting stories on how Obama found Jesus. The media is pushing this guy real hard. Have they figured out that Hillary Rodham's negatives might just be too strong? More on Hillary. At least I put these articles at the end of the reading assignments. Donald Lambro says Hillary is no longer unbeatable. For you aviation enthusiasts, Phil sends in this link to some incredible photographs from an airshow in Russia. A caller heard democratic presidential candidate Mike Gravel promoting the FairTax in an interview. Here's what he has to say about it on his website. Come on in democrats, the water is fine! What are terrorists up to around the world? Someone has put together a global incident map that gives an overview of what's going on. | ||
