THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.

Hit the sack quite late last night, so I'm going to have to do a better job of this sometime later ... but I want to say a word about my wife's fundraiser for The Wounded Warrior Project last night.

We are members The Ravinia Club here in Atlanta.  Every year we participate in an event where a member serves as "bartender" and some of the proceeds from the drinks and tips go toward that member's charity.  Donna and I made a claim on last night ... and then Donna went to work.  I mean ... she really went to work.

Bottom line ... though everything hasn't been added up, it looks like she collected somewhere over $70,000 for The Wounded Warrior Project.  The hundreds of people who showed up to bid on the items donated by my wonderful advertisers and area businesses really got into it .. the bidding was tremendous .. and we were dazzled by the results.  Yesterday afternoon Donna was telling me that she hoped to raise at least $25,000 .. and that if she didn't we were going to make up the difference.  When the preliminary total was announced she broke into tears.

We have so many people to thank .. and I'll try to acknowledge them here on the Nuze next week, and today on the air.  For now ... just thanks.  You were wonderful.

FAIR TAX RALLIES AND WORKSHOP TOMORROW ... AMES IOWA!

Well ... it's into a little bitty airplane and off to Ames Iowa in the morning!  Tomorrow is the day of the Republican Straw Poll in Ames, and we're going to be there with two FairTax rallies, one at 10:00 a.m. and the other at 2:00 p.m.  You can click here for more information.  Then, after the rallies, Congressman John Linder, Herman Cain and I will be hosting a FairTax workshop for candidates, campaign workers and citizens as part of Newt Gingrich's American Solutions project.  This is going to be a great event ... we're gaining momentum .. and we intend to capitalize on it tomorrow.  See you there!

..............  now, for some Nuze!

BUSH REFUSES TO RAISE TAXES

President Bush had a little press conference yesterday.  He said that he wouldn't raise the federal gas tax in order to repair bridges around the country.  He says, instead, Congress needs to change the way it spends highway money.

"Before we raise taxes, which could affect economic growth, I would strongly urge the Congress to examine how they set priorities," says Bush.

In the last highway bill, $24 billion was devoted to pork-barrel spending ... those are highway and bridge projects that lawmakers weaseled into the bill, in order to gain favor in their states.

Look ..  the federal government already provides nearly half of all infrastructure spending for states.  Enough is enough.  Let the states be responsible for some of their own infrastructure concerns, and get these free-spending politicians to be a little more responsible about how our tax money is spent.

Also in the press conference, Bush mentioned the mortgage bailout I was talking about yesterday.  He says that he is open to some federal help for people to refinance their homes, but that he wouldn't directly "bail them out."

MUSLIM NYPD ANALYST SUES CITY

An analyst for the NYPD is suing the city for harassment.  He says he was subject to "anti-Islamic" messages from an email list server, run by a former NYPD counter-terrorism advisor.

The analyst suing the NYPD ... is Muslim.

Bruce Tefft is a retired 21-year CIA veteran.  Teft trained NYPD officers to be proactive and try and deter terror before an incident occurs.  The messages came from Tefft's personal email list that readers could sign up for.  The Muslim analyst, according to Tefft, asked to be put on the list.

To be clear, Tefft was never paid by the NYPD. His entire salary and expenses were paid for by a private intelligence firm Orion Scientific Systems.  Basically, he was donating his time to the NYPD.

The Muslim suing the city says the emails "ridiculed and disparaged the Muslim religion and Arab people, and stated that Muslim- and Arab-Americans were untrustworthy and could not reliably serve in law enforcement positions or handle sensitive data."

The Muslim officer says Tefft's emails made comments such as "a good Muslim ... can't be a good American," "Burning the hate-filled Koran should be viewed as a public service at the least," and "This is not a war against terrorism ... it is against Islam and we are not winning."

Tefft refuses to give an apology and maintains that he was not in the wrong.  He spent 17 years overseas in Muslim hotspots.  He says that he can justify anything he says about Islam.

He says that there is absolutely a link between radical Islam and terrorism. (duhhhhh)   "There is nothing un-Islamic about Osama bin Laden," says Tefft. "If there were, he would have been declared apostate, non Islamic."

Once the complaint was made, the NYPD blocked the emails.  They also filed a cease and desist letter to Tefft and the consulting firm for which he works.

SECURE FLIGHT

Yesterday the federal government proposed yet another version of an airline passenger pre-screening program.  It's called Secure Flight.  It will let domestic passengers volunteer to provide their date of birth and gender when the purchase airline tickets.

According to the Transportation Security Administrator, giving these pieces of data will help clarify many of the mix-ups that currently exist ... such as infants being banned from flights because a name similar to theirs is on no-fly list. The new program will resolve 95% of the miscommunications.

Congress' concern has been about the invasion of privacy, initially requiring passengers to give commercial data and be assigned risk scores.  In fact, they were so concerned that they banned the implementation of any program until it meets their standards of ensured privacy and accuracy.

In addition, Homeland Security announced that international flights will be required to send the passenger list data to the U.S. government before the plane even takes off.  This is will give U.S. authorities more time to identify and remove terror suspects from flights.

As for giving up personal information ... come on, it's a birth date.  Your drug store has it, what's the problem with coughing it up when you fly?

READING ASSIGNMENTS:

Two-thirds of Americans agree with President Bush, don't raise taxes to mend US infrastructure.  Maybe Dems will shut up.

Maybe the Congress (that includes Democrats and Republicans) really does need this vacation.  Lord knows we need a vacation from them.

Abukar Arman, an open sympathizer of terrorists, has been kicked off of a Homeland Security panel.

So now that even high ranking Democrats are admitting our success in Iraq, what will happen when General Petraeus makes his report in September?

A new study shows that suicide bombers in Iraq are mostly foreigners trying to destabilize the government, not Iraqis themselves.

AT&T censored anti-Bush lyrics during a live broadcast of a Pearl Jam concert.  AT&T says it was a mistake of the Webcast vendor.

A Muslim woman killed her husband hours before he was leaving on a trip to Morocco to try to impregnate his new second wife.

Parents are upset because their little angels were stripped searched at a government-run day camp.

If you are traveling to Saudi Arabia don't let the government catch you with a Bible, crucifix and Stars of David.  Any religious items that are non-Islamic are prohibited.

Parents in Texas are suing the Governor and the government school district for mandating a moment of silence in their children's elementary school.

During this Congressional vacation, you can expect some seasoned Congressmen to officially announce their retirement, allowing their predecessors enough time to build adequate campaigns.

Supposedly illegal border crossing is down sixty to seventy percent in what used to be the second most highly trafficked corridor.

Younger generations of Hispanics are skewing towards Republicans or claiming to be independents rather than Democrats.

A ski resort in Colorado is losing a lot of business after the town approved an ordinance calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.  People are calling it "the land of radical liberals."
