| Wednesday, August 15, 2007 Darwin at work. We had a gruesome motorcycle accident near Atlanta this morning. A motorcyclist riding a crotch rocket tried to split the lanes between two 18-wheelers at about 100 mph. Didn't make it. As Brother Dave would say: "Teeth, hair and eyeballs all over the freeway." Tips coming in that the rider had a Mexican driver's license. He has now self-deported. Can you imagine what kind of turbulence there is between two trucks doing about 70? For those of you who caught me on Cavuto yesterday .... AMF means "Adios, my friends." I can't believe how some of your minds work. You ought to be ashamed. Good news from San Francisco! The anti-war moonbats have failed in their effort to get the Navy's Blue Angels banned from the skies above San Francisco during the Fleet Week airshow! Supervisor Chris Daley - chief moonbat - fails. Now they can concentrate on their vendetta against Michael Savage. I like this. New rule. Don't make your child support payments and you can't get a passport. Few things are lower than a dirt bag who doesn't support his kids.
We seem to do things differently in this country. The people with jobs stay on the job and earn livings so they can pay taxes. The people without jobs spend a good part of their day looking for random sex partners so they can get pregnant and live off the efforts of those who work. Tomorrow (Thursday) on the show we're going to interview Chris Crowley. He is the co-author of the most amazing book I've read in years: "Younger Next Year, A guide on how to live like you're 50 until you're 80 any beyond." You young flat-bellies can go get a cup of coffee during that interview .. but if you're nearing 50 .. or if you're beyond .. you are not going to want to miss this one. Don Imus reached a settlement with CBS yesterday. Looks like he's going to carry home about $20 million. There's also word that he is negotiating with WABC to resume his career as a stable mate of my pal Sean Hannity. So ... let's run the numbers here.
Tell me again how bad this has all turned out for the I-man?
Don't walk to school ... walk to the car which is parked in a government regulated zone just beyond the school. This isn't going to change anything about the culture. Soccer moms will still drive to pick up their children from school, but now they will just park in a different spot. Not only will this combat global warming by decreasing CO2 emissions by 15.4% (or so they say) but it will also help curb ... childhood obesity! The little lard-asses having to walk a few blocks. Gotta love it. That ought to make them lighten up the backpacks a bit. Are they also going to park the loser cruisers a few blocks away? Yeah ... we have a bunch of global warming cultist nut-jobs coming up with all manner of absurd ideas to curb (gasp!) global warming ... but you have to admit, they're sure giving us a good entertainment bang for the bucks.
I first brought you this news a few days ago ... now the rest of the media seems to be catching on. NASA, it seems, has been caught making a little calculation error on its temperature data ... for about the last ten years. Now NASA has corrected its data and ... guess what? It's not looking all that good for the global warming crowd. Up until NASA figured out its numbers were wrong, it was generally accepted - at least by the global warming cultists - that 1998 was the hottest year ever in the U.S. OwlGore quoted that "fact" time after time in his speeches and his amusing movie. Well .. that no longer is true. NASA, with their revised temperatures, now says that 1934 is the hottest year on record. In fact .. we now learn that about one-half of the ten hottest years on record occurred before man really started dumping those horrid CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. So ... back to the drawing board. Here's your link to one of the stories covering this matter.
The White House proposed a federal rule requiring ships to reduce speed when coming into U.S. ports. This is supposed to help the ships avoid collisions with endangered whales. Now we know why they're endangered. Thy can't even get out of the way of a ship! International shipping companies say this is ridiculous and will cost them a lot of money - $100 million to $150 million a year in lost time and increased fuel consumption. That's right ... more fuel consumption, which means that the policy is contributing to polluting the our air with more CO2 emissions. What to do? Save the whales and dirty up the air, or clean up the air and bump a few whales around. It's tough being a liberal these days.
This from the "Inside the Beltway" column in the Washington Post: "D.C. resident John Lockwood was conducting research at the Library of Congress and came across an intriguing Page 2 headline in the Nov. 2, 1922 edition of The Washington Post: "Arctic Ocean Getting Warm; Seals Vanish and Icebergs Melt." "The 1922 article, obtained by Inside the Beltway, goes on to mention "great masses of ice have now been replaced by moraines of earth and stones," and "at many points well-known glaciers have entirely disappeared." "This was one of several such articles I have found at the Library of Congress for the 1920s and 1930s," says Mr. Lockwood. "I had read of the just-released NASA estimates, that four of the 10 hottest years in the U.S. were actually in the 1930s, with 1934 the hottest of all." In this column we also learn that certain European government officials have also seen the light, and they're trying to get out of the costly global warming policies they enacted in a panic.
Now here's a shocking statistic. According to the article, "It doesn't happen all the time." Oh yeah? Ok then how often does it happen ... 1% of the time ... that's about one pitch per game --- enough to Time Magazine to run a story titled "Are Baseball Umpire Racist?" Could we possibly overuse that word just a little more? Oh and Time also made a point to let us know that this study benefits white people, "Not surprising, since 71% of MLB pitchers and 87% of umpires are white." This past Saturday's Iowa straw poll has caused some in the media to suddenly discover the FairTax! Mike Huckabee's surprising 2nd place finish, fueled largely by his staunch support of the FairTax, has media tongues waggins. Here are two bits that appeared yesterday in the Political Diary section of Opinion Journal:
CNBC's Larry Kudlow discussed the FairTax on his show Monday night. Here's a video link to a debate between Stephen Moore and Ben Stein. In this clip you'll see Stephen Moore, a respected Wall Street Journal economist refer to the FlatTax as "steroids for our economy." Listen to Ben Stein and you'll see that he doesn't understand the FairTax. Par for the course. There are many other stories out there about the FairTax and the Iowa straw poll. This one caught my eye. It's from The Atlantic Online ... a political blog. Give it a read. What are we learning here? Just this: The FairTax is gaining support and making news. Why? Because of people like you ... people who tell their politicians what they want and then demand action. Keep it up. Enlist your friends. We can do this thing.
Just for grins .. if you're at his Romney's a sharp guy. Can he go toe-to-toe with me and the listeners for an hour on the FairTax? The government and police forces are going to waste their time on this story. A young woman was arrested on a bridge in Florida for coloring with sidewalk chalk. She was creating a protest to address the illegal immigration debate back in June. On the sidewalk, in chalk, she wrote: "Color fades and so does hatred." She was approached by an officer and asked to stop. When she didn't, the officer arrested the woman. The officer says, "The point was she was doing it on someone else's property." That means the government's property that you paid for with your tax dollars. The state of Florida refuses to drop the case. Apparently when the woman initially asked the officer what law she was breaking, he could provide no definitive answer other than the fact that he asked her to stop. Know what? That's enough. You obey the lawful order of a police officer, or you risk being placed under arrest. Still .... Seems like a bit much.
Of interest is the fact that it has been determined that someone used a computer inside the headquarters of the Democrat Party to alter the entry for Rush Limbaugh on Wikipedia. The Democrat operative edited the entry to describe Limbaugh as "idiotic" and "ridiculous," and said that his listeners were "legally retarded." And, of course, there's more! Investigators have also found that someone using a computer at The New York Times edited the entry for President Bush by adding the word "Jerk." Why bring this up? Just to tell you that if some conservative did this to the entry for a liberal icon on Wikipedia .. for instance, if someone were to alter Ted Kennedy's entry to describe that moment where he was wandering up and down a dirt road worrying about his political career while Mary Jo Kopechne suffocated in the back seat of his car, it would be surely labeled "hate speech" by the left. Remember, only conservatives are capable of hate speech. REDNECK SCRAP BOOK Ever wonder what a redneck might consider a come hither look? Maybe it's something like this. Can you resist her siren song? More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS Rudy Giuliani toughened up on illegal immigrants yesterday. He said that he would secure the borders and would "identify every non-citizen in the country." He even referred to the open borders as an "invasion." Good for him. Here's the latest into the investigation of Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens and a little peak at the billions of dollars of pork that has been wasted in Alaska. In Germany the courts refused to allow a Muslim school teacher to wear a headscarf while teaching in a government school. She tried to claim she wore it to look like the actress Grace Kelly. Just as Karl Rove is leaving, Sen. Patrick Leahy is renewing his effort to investigate the firing of eight federal prosecutors. CARE has decided to decline its $45 million in federal funding because it says the aid is hurting the poor people it is trying to protect. Here's some reaction from Macon residents over their mayor's solidarity with Hugo Chavez. Congressional Republicans are complaining about Democrat's tax-and-spend policies ... unfortunately Republicans aren't much better. Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert is expected to announce his retirement. In Australia, government officials are upset with young girls displayed in "sexy" advertising. The government agreed to do an investigation. A clown is told to leave his balloon animals at home because ... some children might have allergic reactions to latex. Yet another reason we need a loser pays legal system in our country. This lawsuit should cost this girl a lot of money. She's just rolling the dice, and if it comes up snake eyes she should pay. A Dutch Catholic bishop says that Christians should refer to God as "Allah" in order to improve relations with Muslims. No ... I'm not kidding. A motorcyclist rode almost 2 miles ... without realizing that his right leg had been cut off after hitting a median. Here's a recap of Newt Gingrich's activities in Ames, Iowa last week.
