AFTERTHOUGHT!

WEDNESDAY'S C-SPAN BROADCAST...

Well, we've now heard from the producers at C-SPAN about yesterday's live broadcast of The Neal Boortz Show.

Belinda called the producers this morning to get an address.  They left some equipment in the studio and we wanted to send it back to them.  I think the conversation went something like this:

(Belinda)  "Well, how did things go yesterday?"

"Awful"

"Awful? What do you mean?"

"He didn't utilize the breaks well.  He didn't take enough phone calls.  It was just AWFUL!"

So, folks.  Looks like that's going to be my last C-SPAN broadcast.  What the hell did they want me to do during the breaks?  Stand up on the console and dance?  Spin around on my eyebrows and spit wooden nickels?  I asked them what I should do during the breaks ... and they told me to just do everything I usually do.  If you missed it, you can watch it online here. Scroll down to find us.

Guess I had better stick to radio.

TEACHER'S UNIONS AT WORK

If there is anything that frightens a union teacher more than the idea of competition, I surely cannot tell you what that might be.

Out there in Utah there's a voucher referendum coming up.  The government school teacher's unions are mounting a fierce battle.  They're bringing up the usual arguments:  The money should be spent on "public" schools, there aren't enough private schools to meet the demand, private schools may hire teachers who aren't "certified."

Yeah ... tell me about it.  You don't think the private sector would rise to meet the demand for private schools?  And remind me please just how well these government schools are doing with their precious "certified" teachers!

Competition. It frightens government employees of all stripes; especially teachers.  Never forget that Florida government school teacher who said that "competition is not good for people."

A FEW MORE READING ASSIGNMENTS

After Rep. Steve King endorsed the FairTax, people said it was the end of his political career ... looks like they were wrong.

Here's the outrageous report on poverty that appeared in the Miami Herald.  Just wait folks.  Poverty is going to get worse ... and it is all because we didn't pass the amnesty bill.

See for yourself, the U.S. government has spent more in relief effort for Katrina than it took rebuild 16 nations in Europe after WWII.

SENATOR LARRY CRAIG

Gone by the end of next week. Probably sooner. The Republicans don't need another Mark Foley going into next year's election.

We still don't have an answer to the question ... How many times can you say "I'm not gay" before you officially become gay.

I would like to hear from members of the gay community today on this issue. I know full well that the vast majority of gay men do not wander around public restrooms, interstate rest stops and city parks looking for casual sexual encounters with complete strangers. What do you think about the gay men who do? You do know, don't you, that in our homophobic culture the actions of these pervs reflect on the entire gay community.

ILLEGAL HEALTHCARE

Dr. Gene Rogers was the medical director for Sacramento County's Indigent Services program. Well Dr. Rogers has now been fired for fighting the county's practice of providing non-emergency medical care to illegal immigrants.

"Sacramento County knowingly violated state and federal laws, misappropriated taxpayer revenues and diverted funds designated for indigent citizens to pay for services delivered to illegal aliens," Dr. Rogers said. "And they did so even as they cut the budget."

Billions of dollars are spent every year on providing medical care to illegal aliens. Billions. That's quite a lot of zeros, and just one of the many cost elements of our refusal to close the border with Mexico and stop the invasion. On the local level, such as Sacramento County, thousands of illegal immigrants are now being treated by this "Indigent Services" program. This costs Sacramento taxpayers millions of dollars.

Dr. Rogers says, "I've watched illegal immigrants brazenly demand free, non-emergency health care that was meant for our poorest citizens. I've heard them and their families complain. They feel entitled to it."

In 2003 Dr. Rogers filed a lawsuit after county officials berated him when he questioned why they were cutting the budget, but still willing to fund this service for illegal immigrations. Now he has been fired. The county did not specify why.

I LOVE THIS GOVERNMENT SCHOOL STORY ...

Years ago I was playing on a golf course near Atlanta. A thunderstorm developed nearby, and the sirens sounded clearing the course. About 20 minutes later the sky was blue, and we were itching to get back out there and finish the round ... but we couldn't. The insurance company covering the golf course had established a requirement that the course had to be cleared in the event of a lightning strike within a few miles of the course. That's reasonable. But then the course operators could not allow anybody to return to play until 30 minutes after the last lightning strike within five miles. We sat there ... 25 minutes would pass .. then lightning would hit about four miles away in a storm that was moving away from the course. The timer started again and it was almost an hour before we could resume play.

I never play that golf course when storms are in the forecast.

That brings us to a few government schools in Orlando. Last Friday, just a students were gathering their stuff together to go home for the weekend, a thunderstorm came wandering along. School officials at the Ocoee elementary and middle schools shut the doors. Students would not be allowed to leave. The mothers and fathers were lined up in the driveways to pick up their children.

It seems that these government schools were following the same policy they had at the golf course. The school officials kept starting their 30-minute timers every time they saw lightning or heard thunder. That's right ... the school rule was that no kid could go outside for 30 minutes after lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

So .. how long did the parents wait? Try five hours. That's right. Five Hours. Parents are waiting outside of the school .. but their children couldn't come out for almost five hours.

Now the Orange County schools say that they are going to "redo" their policy. The golf course did that many years ago. Funny how the competitive nature of the private marketplace changes things so fast.

THE FAIRTAX AND OUR FOUNDING FATHERS

Perhaps we get an idea of what our founding fathers might have thought about the FairTax from this:

"It is a signal advantage of taxes on articles of consumption that they contain in their own nature a security against excess. They prescribe their own limit; which cannot be exceeded without defeating the end proposed, that is, an extension of the revenue. When applied to this object, the saying is as just as it is witty, that, "in political arithmetic, two and two do not always make four." If duties are too high, they lessen the consumption; the collection is eluded; and the product to the treasury is not so great as when they are confined within proper and moderate bounds. This forms a complete barrier against any material oppression of the citizens by taxes of this class, and is itself a natural limitation of the power of imposing them."

Alexander Hamilton writing as Publius in Federalist 21.

By the way, Mr. Bartlett, Hamilton was an Episcopalian.

FARMS ... IN NEW YORK CITY?

Judging by the amount of people in Manhattan who receive agricultural subsidies you would think there would be hundreds of acres of farm land on the island. But as you've probably guessed, that isn't the case.

But that doesn't stop your tax dollars from providing these subsidies to Manhattanites who, judging by the fact that they can afford to live in Manhattan, don't need a government subsidy to begin with.

Take a look at the map. Those red spots are the home address of people who receive over a quarter-million dollars in agricultural subsidies each and every year. The map must be accurate, it was developed and used by Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns in a recent speech.

In July our newly reformed, earmark-free, Democratic led Congress passed another farm bill. Any changes? No. The income threshold is still at $1 million and there are still loopholes which allow for their liberal Park Avenue constituents to gain thousands of dollars for their rooftop garden parties.

All at the taxpayer's expense. Don't ya just love it!

GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS BECOMING SEGREGATED

A recent report says that American government schools are becoming more segregated. It also says that this will continue because of the Supreme Court ruling this past June, which said that race cannot be a determining factor in how school zones are assigned.

The report says that the trend gives non-white students less prospects and it will have a negative effect on the economy.

The causes of this "phenomenon"? Unfortunately it is not the number of parents who are choosing to put their kids in private schools. No. The report shows that it is a combination of white Americans having less children and the fast growing minority population in the US. Which group could that be? Could it be ... Hispanics?

The report says, "Too often Latino students face triple segregation by race, class and language."

Years ago the solution was bussing. Maybe now we need a government program to force white folks to have more children. That way there can be more little white faces in the government schools and the "minorities" won't have to feel so put upon.

ILLEGAL 'UNLICENSED' DRIVERS

The Los Angeles Police Department decided that it is going to stop impounding cars ... of "unlicensed drivers." They say the practice may be unconstitutional because "many unlicensed drivers who have their cars towed are illegal immigrants who cannot get driver's licenses."

Just an FYI ... I did a little research. There are over 2 million illegal immigrants in California alone. At least one million of them drive without a license.

The department decided to change its rules after civil rights aaaactivists and LA politicians read a court ruling in Oregon. The case involved a man named Jorge Miranda. Good ole Jorge (pronounced whore-hey) was teaching his wife, an unlicensed driver, to drive his car. She was pulled over by a cop. He impounded the vehicle for thirty days because it was being driven by an unlicensed driver. The ruling said this is a no-no.

Now let's see here. If you drive a car and you don't have a license, somewhat of an indication you don't know how to drive, they can't take the car. But if they find a little Mary Jane stuffed between the cushions of the back seat, they can.

LAPD will no longer impound vehicles solely because the driver is driving without a license. Now how is this for government brilliance ... the driver will be cited for driving without a license but the car will only be impounded if it cannot be driven away by a licensed driver or parked legally and secured.

In other words, if none of your amigos actually have a legal driver's license and cannot come and pick up the car, you are still SOL.

But don't worry. Senator Gil Cedillo of Los Angeles has information on his website as to how unlicensed drivers can fight impounds. Now there's man of the people.

If you missed the CSPAN broadcast of the show yesterday, you can watch it here. Scroll down to find the link.

Sikhs in the U.S. are upset about some new TSA security rules that allow security personnel to inspect turbans at airports. Well, that's why we build highways!

Pakistan's President Musharraf has agreed to step down as army chief.

How about this for poverty statistics? Gainesville, Florida supposedly has a poverty rate of 32.3 percent. Why so high? Because full-time students are considered "poor" according to the government.

Many GOP politicians are calling for Larry Craig to resign. He has already given up many of his senior committee posts.

Do Hillary Clinton and her liberal pals now want to return to the glory days of Janet Reno as our Attorney General? Ann Coulter thinks so. Coulter gives us a look at what Hillary's Choice for attorney general while her "husband" was in office did.

Here's a real shocker. A study conducted by the Media Research Center found that morning news shows "overwhelmingly focused on Democrats, [and] they are actively promoting the Democrats' liberal agenda." I am, like, so, such as, surprised.

I can't decide which is more surprising in this story. The fact that Mexican truck drivers will be allowed to drive anywhere in the US or the hypocritical unions that suddenly oppose this measure ... even though they support amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Deroy Murdock of National Review agrees that Michael Vick is not in his current situation "because he's black."

Arizona laws requiring employers to verify legal citizenship status seems to be working. The state is said to be losing at least 100 people per day. Actually, that would be losing 100 criminal aliens a day.

Government Outrage: an unelected body in Virginia has the power to levy taxes?

Do you remember that story we covered a few days ago about the man that is in jail for 6 months after fixing a fence on his property? Apparently we weren't the only ones that were outraged.

Some tree-huggers in UC Berkeley are going to be fenced in. The school is building a fence around the trees and protestors in preparation for their home football game this weekend. The protestors are upset because the school is going to tear down a dozen trees in order to build a new sporting facility.

And while we're talking about colleges. Duke University let a male student move into a female dorm because he planned on having a sex change surgery in the coming months. Damn, why didn't I think of that when I entered college? Oh, wait. There weren't any females at Texas A&M back then. That explains a lot, doesn't it?

Government school update (gosh ... these are too easy to find). Students at Wissahickon High School are calling for a day of protest when they will refuse to talk during classes in protest of being required to wear clear plastic or mesh backpacks.

A man in Berlin lost the top of his head after a brain surgery. Turns out that the fridge used to store the top part of his skull was not cold enough. He has been awarded $4,100 and has a new plastic skull. He's going to move to the U.S., become a citizen, and register to vote Democrat.
