AFTERTHOUGHT!

RANDOM BULL POOP

Do you know how Catherine the Great died? Ouch!

We've always know that the FairTax would be easy to demagogue. Rich Lowry, Donald Lambro and Rudy Giuliani have raised that FairTax demagoguery to an art form. Here's your link to Rich Lowry's column. There is no chance in hell he did any research on the FairTax on his own ... his research consisted of reading Bruce Bartlett's column. Period.

We had a caller today ask about whether or not I would like to produce a DVD exclaiming the FairTax and responding to some of the objections. Well .. we'll work on that idea. In the meantime, here's a link to the American Solutions workshop conducted by Congressman John Linder and myself before an overflow crowd several months ago. This is the most popular video on Newt Gingrich's American Solutions website.

PRESIDENTIAL LOGIC QUIZ

If you're not listening to the Information Overload Hour, this won't make much sense to you ... but here is the answer to yesterday's question:

90 inches, 3,600 square inches, 108,000 pounds. (the area increases by a factor of 30^2 (900), and the volume or weight increases by a factor of 30^3 (27,000).

And now for today's question:

Estimating. Proposing any sort of legislation or any action at all requires at least a rough estimate of quantity, costs, benefits, other effects. An ability to gauge them is critical (as is an ability to listen to others' unbiased estimates).

A couple of simple, yet abstract problems of this type? How about the following (hint and answer on page 4): A classic problem: How many piano tuners are there in New York City? And how many times the death toll on Sept. 11 is the annual highway death toll? Here is yesterday's question in case you missed it.

ELITIST GIFTED PROGRAMS

The Seattle government school system received an outside review of its gifted education program. The results ... the district should "aggressively diversify its program" because it is "elitist."

Why is it considered elitist? Because three-quarters of the students enrolled in the gifted program are white. District wide, whites only make up 40% of the student population. This would mean that in an egalitarian world only 40 percent of the gifted students would be white. If the number is higher .. than there's a big problem.

Students are admitted into the program after testing in the 98th or 99th percentile nationally in cognitive ability and reading and math skills. Once students test in this percentile, they spend most of their government education with students of the same caliber.

Not good, according to the report. This is "perceived to be 'elitist, exclusionary and even racist.' Yes, racist. Can we please give that word a rest for a decade or so? You score in the 98th or 99th percentile .. and you get moved into the gifted program, no matter what your color. Now we're going to start calling accomplishment racist.

Even admission to the program is being considered "elitist" because it relies too much on a single test to determine aptitude. This is "unfair to low-income students and students without parental support."

There's a book out there I would like to recommend. It truly is an extraordinary read. The title is "In Defense of Elitism" by William A. Henry III. Henry, mind you, is a self-described card-carrying member of the ACLU and a registered Democrat. Here's your link ... order one for your favorite elitist today. Don't bother about me .. I've got my copy.

In the meantime ... stop the child abuse. Get your child out of government schools today.

HEALTHCARE

I don't understand how reports like this continue to surface. Well, maybe I do. A lot of people are behind the push for socialized medicine.

Just yesterday, a federal report says that more than 40 million people in America say they cannot afford adequate healthcare.

Ok, now can anyone please tell me what is wrong with this "report." Just glance at the statement again. Alright ... if you failed to pinpoint the word "say" then shame on you. So 40 million Americans "say" they cannot afford healthcare. That doesn't mean they can't, in fact, afford health care .. it just means that they want to spend their moolah on things like cell phones, big-screen TVs, payments on expensive cars, fancy restaurants, exotic vacations and other fun stuff - and leave the important survival stuff to the government.

Let's clarify who these "40 million" people are ... how about 10 million illegal immigrants. How about 17 million people who can afford their own insurance, making more than $50,000 per year.

John McCain made a statement yesterday, pointing out that mandating health insurance coverage "makes about as much sense as requiring everyone to buy a house." He nailed that one.

PROUD TO BE NOMINATED

And the honors keep rolling in.

Looks like I've been nominated in some "outrageous quote of the year" contest on some obscure leftist website out there. Here's the quote that brought me this honor:

"Look, Al Qaeda, they could bring a nuke into this country and kill a hundred thousand people with a well-placed nuke somewhere, OK? We would recover from that. It would be a terrible tragedy but the teachers unions in this country can destroy a generation...Well, they are destroying a generation. They're MUCH more dangerous. You know, we worry about Al Qaeda, and we should, but at the same time, let's not let the teachers' unions escape." - Neal Boortz, Hannity & Colmes, 2/20/07

And I thought nobody noticed!

Actually .. I'll stand by that quote today. The single most dangerous entity in the United States today would be the teacher's unions. The first step in correcting this hideous mess that has become our education system would be to get rid of these unions. We know that isn't going to happen, though ... so the best defense we have is to get our children out of these government schools.

ISLAM IN PRISON

In Australia, Islamic extremists are using an al Qaeda training manual, which instructs them on taking over prisons. Up to 40 inmates have established an internal organization in order to maintain morale, resist interrogation and recruit members to the peaceful, loving religion of Islam.

Leadership groups have been set up by prisoners in several maximum-security jails ... all of their activity is governed by the code in the al Qaeda manual. Behaviors include hunger strikes, group protests and claims of mistreatment. Not to mention violent threats by inmate groups and singling out staff members to convert to Islam.

Just a side-note: I wonder if Islamic law provides for temporary marriages in prisons, as it does on the outside?

Anyway .... Moving right along .....

Prison authorities say they found the manual three months ago. Many inmates have been transferred to other jails in attempts to disrupt leadership groups. They were discovered only after prison regulations were changed, allowing 24-hour monitoring of Muslim inmates. With Australia's new Prime Minister, however, I am sure that this will promptly change.

In 2003, they did institute the Security Threat Group Intervention Program to stop ethnic and criminal gangs from exerting control over jails. Now it is being used to identify ringleaders who are applying and spreading the code of the al Qaeda manual.

While we're talking about the religion of love ... take a look at the reading assignments. There's another "let's not offend Muslims" story there for you.

REPUBLICAN IMMIGRANTS

This article from London says that an increased number of legalized American citizens are turning to the Republican Party in upcoming elections. Many legal immigrants seem anxious to uphold the laws of their new country and prefer the hard-line immigration stance of (some) Republicans.

In San Diego, California new legal citizens say that illegal immigrants should be penalized and not given an easy route to citizenship.

A Democratic worker who tries to register voters outside San Diego's Golden Hall says, "I've had several people here, Hispanic people, say 'No, I'm a Republican'." Some have sighted immigration as their reason for choosing the Republican party.

Someone bring this to Bush's attention .. would ya?

CANADIANS ON U.S. TERROR POLICY

A Canadian judge has ruled against America's policies on torture and refugees. Canada can no longer turn away refugees from the U.S. because America is no longer safe for refugees.

This judge believes that the U.S. does not protect refugees fleeing political persecution and torture, which is required by international conventions. Therefore Canada is willing to take them off our hands.

This nullifies an existing agreement between the U.S. and Canada, which is meant to prevent "asylum shopping" for immigrants attempting to obtain asylum from multiple countries.

Now ... let's see if Canada becomes the popular destination for refugees, rather than America. In fact .. let's just start shipping our refugees up there! They treat them so well, I'm sure they would welcome them with open arms.

WARMERS ... BETTER STAYED MARRIED

Well I guess Belinda must stay married for life, because if she doesn't, she is going to greatly contribute to ... global warming. A new study from Michigan State University found that divorced households have a greater negative impact on the environment than married households.

Married households are simply more efficient in terms of using resources. The resource efficiency per person is much lower in divorced households because there are less people per house. Also, living space is used less efficiently. As a result ... all of this inefficiency may lead to an increase in greenhouse gases.

In the U.S., the study found that divorced households spent 46% more per capita on electricity and 56% more on water than married households. If divorced households could have the same efficiency as married ones, they would need 38 million fewer rooms, use 73 billion fewer kilowatt hours of electricity and 627 billion gallons of water ... and that's just in one year.

So, ladies. Stick with that abuser for a bit longer --- remember, you're fighting global warming!

WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE

Remember, folks ... they're Democrats, not Democratics. Republicans belong to the Republican Party. Libertarians belong to the Libertarian Party. Socialists belong to the Socialist Party. Democrats belong to the Democrat Party.

Hey Atlanta Listeners - Win Five Free Tanks of Gas???
Clark Howard has THOUSANDS of free gallons of gas left to giveaway!
Harry Reid just can't come to grips. After returning from Thanksgiving break, Harry says that the surge in Iraq hasn't been successful. Harry must have really tied one on during Thanksgiving. By the way, you do know that he is becoming hugely unpopular in his home state, don't you?

The German government may ban Scientology because it says the group violates human rights. I don't think they violate human rights ... I just think they're fruitcakes.

Here's some good news ... Six radical Muslims were sentenced to up to 19 years in prison for terrorist acts in Indonesia including the beheading of three Christian schoolgirls and shooting to death a priest. Why not an execution?

Here's some insight from Fallujah, Iraq on the current situation in Iraq and the decline in violence.

This article says that Nigeria is taking a `practical' approach to sharia law ... I didn't know that was possible. Does that mean that you can practically kill your sister if she's a rape victim?

And the latest contributor to climate change is ...... Kudzu!

In Alaska you can now sue the federal government if it fails to remove snow and ice, treating the federal government as an Alaskan landlord.

A Muslim political cartoonist is filing a complaint against Air Canada, saying that he was barred from a flight because of his race, religion and criticism of the Bush administration. He really has this victim status down cold, doesn't he?

The new police commissioner in Philadelphia plans to declare a state of emergency in some parts of the city on his first day in office, Jan. 7.

The Heritage Foundation has a new study about SCHIP and how the bill increases illegal immigrants' access to Medicaid and undermines welfare reform.

Apparently "hook 'em horns" doesn't go over so well in other parts of the world. It doesn't go over so well in College Station, Texas either.

Breakfast drinking is going to be banned in Queensland, Australia. This is, apparently, a big problem.

Oh just give me a break here. Now we have the Lehigh Valley (Pennsylvania) IronPigs have decided to change the name of their mascot. The name now? Pork Chop. And they're changing the name because ..... well, you guessed it.

Just wanted to say that your latest book is the best book I have read in a long time. I don't always agree with you, but have to really examine my position on things when our opinions differ after you lay out your reasoning. Thanks for making me stretch my brain, and keep up the good work.

By the way, I don't blame you for not wanting to run for president but this country needs someone who is not afraid to do what is best regardless of the offenses that it would cause so long is it made America better. You could be the shot in the arm that this country so desperately needs.
