| Friday, December 14, 2007 To begin your reading pleasure for today, here are some links to copies of letters written to Judge Henry Hudson by or on behalf of Michael Vick; part of the effort to get leniency for Vick at his sentencing earlier this week. They didn't work. First, here's a handwritten letter from Vick to da Judge! Then keep scrolling down to see letters from George Foreman, Shirley Franklin and someone pleading for mercy because Vick contributed to Hurricane Katrina relief.
Now .. get this ...Clinton's campaign tried to say that his resignation had nothing to do with the comments ... I suppose that is how stupid Clinton's people think we are. Meanwhile, Shaheen says he regrets the comments and says that they were in no way authorized by Hillary. Uh huh. We learn two things here. One, Hillary wouldn't fire someone for suggesting that her opponent was a drug dealer; and that this is very likely the type of people Hillary will be putting in her administration. But ... take a look at the demographics out there. Single women are a huge segment of the voter base ... and single women are expected to go for Hillary in overwhelming numbers.
The White House didn't have much to say other than the fact that OwlGore is "incorrect." Spokeswoman Dana Perino says that obviously those comments are not constructive. But who needs to be constructive when you are promoting a scam. Man am I gonna be sad when this conference is over. There's just so much rich, politically correct material. I guess I'll just have to go back to picking on ... The House seems to be doing better than the Senate, if you are judging based on the legislation passed. The House has given the Senate bills on energy, the Iraq war, the housing/mortgage crisis and tax cuts for the middle income (offset by tax increases on the evil rich). But most of them were ... failures. To clear up matter, House Democrats are blaming Senate Republicans for their recent predicament. Well of course! It certainly couldn't be their fault! In fairness though, they are also hinting at some frustration with Harry Reid and Senate Democrats for not putting up a better fight against Senate Republicans. Did you know that? Well, that is what Nancy Pelosi thinks. Amidst frustration within her own party, Nancy had this to say about Republicans: "They like this war. They want this war to continue." Then she tried to backtrack, but the words were out there. She says that Republicans are not in tune with the public's concerns. I don't know about you, but I consider the threat of Islamo-fascism the biggest threat to our nation (besides government schools). I'm a bit concerned about it. But maybe it is just me.
Democrats know what they're doing here. The keep pushing the line that our economy is bad. They point out that the wealthy are doing quite well, even in a poor economy; and then they promise to take that money away from the wealthy and give it to the normal, everyday, not-wealthy Americans. A time-honored campaign tactic ... and it will work with millions of voters. Wealth envy lives, and there's no better way to pander to it than to promise to punish the wealthy for their success.
What a jerk. How would you feel if you had the ability to offset your infidelities? Basically, if you want to cheat on your significant other, you pay someone else not to cheat so that the total number of heartbreaks in the world stays neutral. Well there's a website from Great Britain called Cheatneutral that allows you to do just that. In case you went to government schools and haven't caught on to the gimmick, the website is satirizing the concept of carbon offsets. For just $2.21 you can offset your indiscretions by sponsoring a "project" on the website. The site says that, "jealousy and heartbreak are a natural part of modern life, and that no matter how hard we try to reduce the amount we cheat on our partners, it is just not possible to remain faithful." In fact, the creators of the website all work in the environmental industry. In their own field they see the hypocrisy of carbon offsets, saying that they do more harm than good. If we want to actually make changes, they say the proper way to go about it isn't by cheating the system. READING ASSIGNMENTS
Yesterday the House approved an intelligence bill that would prohibit the CIA from using waterboarding. Let's hope the Senate stops this nonsense and rejects the bill. The White House has launched a website that will track where taxpayer money is being spent ... what a concept! USASpending.gov. Britain officially signed the EU Treaty, which gives all EU members a "semi-constitution." There are going to be a lot of unhappy Brits. What the hell ... it seems we only have a semi-Constitution in this country now! Contrary to recent articles, Huckabee, like Reagan, wouldn't be an 'easy kill.' In case you missed the Mitchell Report, here is the list of MLB players connected to steroids. Hillary Clinton: by a show of hands, who here believes in global warming? Unanimous. That's what I thought! A political scientist from Haverford College says that studies now show that Muslims, rather than Jews, are the largest non-Christian religious group in the US. Congress gets in the way of competition, yet again. In this case it is specialty hospitals that compete with traditional hospitals. Back in June there was a large illegal immigration raid at a plant in Portland, Oregon. So what does the city do with taxpayer money after the raid? Turns around and gives $20,000 in aid to the workers' families. Iraqis found 14 Iranian-made rockets and turned them over to coalition forces. Young "activists" are upset with Hillary for suggesting that students who did not grow up in Iowa should not caucus there in January. A Mexican man who is legally in the US is suing an Arizona Sheriff's Office because he says aggressive immigration enforcement has led to racial profiling. Gawd .. there's that racial profiling nonsense again. A government school teacher in Connecticut barricades herself in a classroom and calls the police ... because an after-hours custodian decided to sing karaoke over the PA system. A government school in Dallas is banning its students from wearing "hoodies" for safety and security reasons. And here's more news from Dallas. The city is considering licensing its strippers. Here's an interesting study for you. 95% of emails sent in 2007 were spam. I could have told you this ... women are more interested in a man's wealth, than in his looks. During that brief period in my life when I was single the two questions from the ladies were (1) How much money do you make; and, (2) What kind of car do you drive? And now for The Media's Top 10 Economic Myths of 2007. If you donated to Merry Christmas Marines this year, or even if you didn't, see the thank you letter and view all the goodies being packed up and sent to the Marines. You know how yesterday we tricked you into looking at this? Well, apparently a forum out there has had a bit of fun photoshopping this image. Just in case you can't get enough. Probably not safe for work stuff there. | |||
