READING ASSIGNMENTS The House passed an energy bill yesterday that will mandate increased fuel efficiency, boost ethanol production, and cut energy use in light bulbs and appliances. As the '08 election draws nearer, Americans' approval of Congress seems to be sinking lower and lower. John McCain is surging in the polls ... following his endorsement from Joe Lieberman. Apparently he is in second place in New Hampshire, out polling Giuliani. This story about FEMA's red tape reminds me how much I just love our precious government. California's state assembly approved the first phase of a $14 billion plan to give medical insurance to all its residents ... meanwhile, Schwarzenegger says he has to declare a "fiscal emergency" because the state is $14 billion in debt. Harry Reid has declared that the "American people are losing" because of Republicans and their big oil, big tobacco, and Iraq. A children's sing-along DVD is being investigated in Great Britain because it glorifies suicide bombers. Just amazing ... I don't think this is the exact video they are investigating, but this should give you a taste. New guidelines from the Dutch medical association say that female [read: Muslim] patients can refuse to see male doctors. Inch by inch folks ... Norway's government is feeling the heat after deciding to release recaptured carbon. They are releasing it because it is too darn expensive to store. At the Bali conference, guess what all those warmers forgot to calculate into their footprints ... the air-conditioning system installed to keep more than 10,000 delegates cool in their tropical resort. Social Democrats in Germany are calling for sanctions on energy-intensive U.S. exports if the Bush administration "continues to obstruct international agreements on climate protection." The people of Saudi Arabia think more highly of Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad than they do of President Bush. And for some Islamic insensitivity ... let's talk about pork. We've all heard of drug cartels ... well in Denmark they have to deal with the evil Christmas tree cartel. Animal activists have their thongs in a wad because an aquarium in Japan put Santa hats on two beluga whales. A phone that lets you speak through your ear? And I thought the Japanese were busy making glow-in-the-dark cats. | ||
