MORE FROM SOMEBODY'S GOTTA SAY IT!

Another short excerpt, this one on the chapter dealing with the war against the individual:

If you recognize the concept of individuality at all, then it follows that you must recognize the existence of individual rights. This means that at some point you might actually have to consider the idea that an individual has a right to property. The right to property is very problematic to the left. Does an individual's right to the property he has earned trump any rights that society might have to that same property? What if some liberal needs to use the police power of government to seize some of your wealth, and repurpose it for whatever that liberal deems to serve the interests of the "common good"?

Do you exist for yourself as an individual? Or do you merely exist as a member of some group, ripe for exploitation by a collectivist society eager to use you to satisfy some vague idea of just what would serve the "greater good?" That's an easy question for a libertarian . . . a difficult one for a liberal.

DEMOCRAT CLASS WARFARE RHETORIC

In case you've missed this .. the Democrat Party has decided that one of the keys to victory in 2008 is to pit the "middle class" and the evil rich against each other in the mother of all class warfare battles. The battle plan is simple. You announce that you're going to develop some nifty new government programs for the middle class, plus lower their taxes, and you're going to finance all of this by raising taxes on the rich --- more specifically, the nastiest of the rich, the evil top one percent.

Note, please, that the democrats try very hard not to say the words "raise taxes." The preferred verbiage is "roll back the tax cuts." It's all in the language. That's why democrats talk of "investing" money rather than "spending" it.

The rhetoric around the Democrats class warfare campaign is both amusing and instructive. It was a frustrating experience yesterday afternoon watching Minnesota's junior Senator .. a Democrat, of course ... Amy Klobuchar on Cavuto. Now Klobuchar is new, but she is clearly a quick study when it comes to learning the class warfare ropes. Her plan for helping the middle class --- and remember, that's the theme --- is to raise taxes on the top 1% of income earners. Interestingly enough, she likes to say that we should go to Washington to find the money to help the middle class .. then she talks tax increases. You almost get the idea that she has no working concept of just who's money she's talking about. When you raise taxes on anyone, let alone the evil top 1%, that money doesn't come from Washington .. it comes from the pockets of the individuals who earn it.

Now ... here's where the frustration comes in. Cavuto asks Senator Klobuchar whether or not she thinks that the 35% of earnings that the richest 1% earn now is enough; whether or not that's fair. He asked this question three times, and three times Klobuchar refused to answer it. She would launch into a discussion of rising tuition rates and health insurance premiums in Minnesota. Now excuse me ... but in what way do comments on rising tuitions and health insurance rates constitute a response to a question as to whether or not a 35% tax rate is high enough for evil high-achievers?

Answer the damned question, Senator!

She knows, of course, that no answer is needed. The vast majority of the people watching her on Cavuto are most definitely not in the top 1% income category. They've been raised an steeped in class warfare rhetoric and honestly, though ignorantly, believe that these filthy rich people aren't paying enough. Senator Klobuchar doesn't have to answer the question ... and indeed she never will. All she has to do is pander to the jealously of the not-rich by promising punishment for high achievers and the redistribution of their earnings.

DEMOCRATS TRYING TO LIMIT WAR POWERS

Democrats are once again trying to do all they can to tie President Bush's hands as commander-in-chief...this time to prevent him from invading Iran. Islamic terrorists have never had a better friend in Washington. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House and the tuna industry, said President Bush doesn't have the right to invade Iran without asking her first. Of course it doesn't matter that nobody in the Bush Administration is talking about invading Iran. Gotta score some political points wherever you can, I guess.

John Murtha is also at it again....trying to take on legislation that would require a longer time at home between deployments for troops. Sounds good, right? Well, it actually means there would be no troop surge...because of the longer time away from the combat zone, there would be no reinforcements. But so far that's about as far as Democrats seem willing to go to cut off the troops.

For now it's just a lot of non-binding resolutions...one right after another. But again, if the Left really opposes the war, why not cut off the funding for it? I thought they were going to do something about the war once they got into power. Evidently not.

HILLARY CLINTON BUYING SOME VOTES

One thing Democrats have been able to rely on over the years is the black vote. Without it, they would probably be sunk. Hillary Clinton knows this...so when it came time to sew up the support of one black legislator in South Carolina, a critical early primary state, she had no problem cutting a check. Somebody by the name of State Senator Darrell Jackson was the beneficiary.

And just how much will Senator Jackson be getting? $200,000 between now and election day. $10,000 a month, say the reports. Not bad. This will be paid to some PR firm owned by the Senator/preacher. This deal was struck after negotiations with the Obama campaign broke down. Seems they were only offering $5,000 a month...and The Hildabeast swooped down with more cash. So who is this Jackson fellow? A minister at a church in Columbia, South Carolina...and some sort of activist. His official title with the Clinton campaign will be "consultant."

So .. bottom line. Hillary has gone out there and bought herself a black preacher for the campaign.

Sounds like good old-fashioned vote buying to me. Of course Hillary Clinton knows this. Which is why she shelled out the bucks....without the black vote in the primaries, she'll be back to being the senior Senator from New York faster than you can say "Barack Obama."

READING ASSIGNMENTS

The latest embarrassment from Georgia, Rep. Ben Bridges who apparently thinks evolution is a Jewish conspiracy. He also sends you off to fixedearth.com to challenge the "evolution monopoly in the schools". Here's just one quote found on that site: "The Earth is not rotating...nor is it going around the sun". Wow.

An Italian judge has indicted 26 Americans over the CIA's rendition program for terrorism suspects. The court has even appointed them lawyers, but there's only one problem....they've never had any contact with their clients. Good luck, boys and girls!

John McCain has jumped on the global warming bandwagon. He says we have reached the tipping point, and Congress is going to act soon. What about all the hot air from politician's speeches? Does that cause global warming? Just asking.

In a speech that could've easily been written by any number of Democrats on Capitol Hill, Al Qaeda leader Al-Zawahiri released a tape which supposedly shows an attack on U.S. forces and a message ridiculing President Bush. I bet they oppose the troop surge too.

Officials in Salt Lake City are investigating whether or not the shooting at a Utah shopping mall was terrorism-related. Although any time a Muslim goes on a rampage and kills 5 people, you can't rule it out. Officials initially said there was no evidence of terrorism, but a closer look reveals some interesting facts.

The showdown between Minnesota Democrat Keith Ellison and Colorado's Tom Tancredo in Congress over cigar smoke seems to have come to a conclusion. Ellison seems a bit embarrassed by the whole thing, apologizing and saying it was all blown out of proportion.

A South Korean presidential candidate says the United States' deal with North Korea doesn't go far enough. Just making The Gargoyle freeze his nuclear weapons program is the same thing the Clinton Administration agreed to...and it never happened.

Charles Krauthammer takes a closer look at Vladimir Putin's recent speech in which he accused the United States of a "hyper-use of force." This seems to be quite the statement coming from somebody that loves to use force himself. Pot, meet the kettle.

Barack Obama's announcement for president, despite the fact that he earlier said he wouldn't, shows that he's believing the hype the media is writing about him. Or at least that's what David Limbaugh thinks. He calls Obama "Barack Rodney King Obama."

Jonah Goldberg says maybe it's time a Democrat win the White House. It could be a good idea to put them in charge for awhile...let them deal with the War On Terror and see how they do. But can we really afford another Clinton presidency? Read on to find out.

Newt Gingrich seems to be on the way up should he run for president...or at least Dick Morris thinks so. Right now the conservative wing of the Republican Party seems to be running a bit short...and the former Speaker could step in and pick up some votes.

Damn it! It's tough when you're not allowed to use swear words on prime time TV! God forbid, the kids might hear some of the same words they hear on the playground every day.

And for no reason, Nora the piano playing cat, your video of the day.

All of Jack Bauer's damnits, seasons 1-4.
