A FEW RANDOM THOUGHTS

This morning CNN was running a series called "America on Ice."  I-10 is shut down for 300 miles West of San Antonio, Texas.  That would be our southernmost coast-to-coast expressway.  Global warming, I guess .....

Today on the show ... we'll tell you about the latest email scam.  "I've been hired to kill you.  Pay me $80,000 and I'll leave you alone and give you all the information you need to have the guy who hired me arrested."  People actually fall for this stuff.

Pressure on oil prices to go even lower.  This, of course, has nothing to do with Bush. That's global warming also, I guess.

FLIP-FLOPPING ON GLOBAL WARMING?

The word is that President Bush is going to address global warming in his State of the Union address.  The White House is denying that there is any change in policy here...but make no mistake, there is.  Thanks to the relentless drumming of the propaganda mill, It is just no longer politically correct to question the religion of man-caused global warming.  The situation now is so grave that anyone who denies that man is the primary cause of whatever global warming there is is a modern day version of a Holocaust denier.

Tony Snow says the administration's position has not changed...that the president is still opposed to mandatory limits on greenhouse gases.  But make no mistake, Bush is going to acknowledge the existence of man-made climate change.  And in response, the global warming crowd will wet their pants with glee.  They will feel legitimized by their opposition.

And they would be right.

Thanks to the efforts of the media and the international community, people who question the existence of global warming, which is still an unproven scientific theory, are made to look like members of the Flat Earth Society.  How could anyone possibly think there is no such thing as global warming?  Forget the facts...forget the science...it's all about emotion, and the anti-capitalist agenda.

Look .. I'm not denying that the Earth's climate has warmed.  It has.  Perhaps by as much as one degree.  Why, though, are so many people so eager to acknowledge that the earth is warmer, but they'll deny that the sun is and has been hotter than usual for the past 15 years or so?  Why no acknowledgement of the increase sun activity?  Because to admit that would be to admit that this may be the reason for what we call global warming.

There are really two elements to the global warming crowd.  On the one hand we have the scientists, on the other hand the political activists.  The scientists know that as soon as they acknowledge the role of increase solar activity in global warming their research funds will dry up.  Much of these research funds are tied to the idea that global warming is caused by the actions of man.  The political activists behind the man-made global warming idea have a goal .. .and that goal is to slow the evil machinery of free enterprise.  They are, at their core, anti-capitalists; newbie socialists and remnants of the old world-wide communist movement.

So next week the president will cave.  Too bad.

TOLERATING IRAN'S BEHAVIOR

Iran is saying they shot down a U.S. spy drone that supposedly flew into their airspace.  Just how long are we going to put up with this nonsense?  First they send Islamic terrorists into Iraq to make trouble and now they're shooting down our planes?  In another time, this would amount to a declaration of war.

What do you suppose Harry Truman would have done if some two-bit terrorist country would've shot down one of our planes?  It wouldn't have been pretty.  Ronald Reagan?  He wouldn't have tolerated it either.  Yet for some inexplicable reason, we just turn the other cheek as our military hardware is blown out of the sky by the Islamic terrorists of Tehran.

This on top of their support for the insurgency of Iraq.  And don't forget Iran is building nuclear weapons.  At what point are we going to say "enough is enough" and step in and stop Ahmadinejad?  It would seem as if the answer is never.  Maybe it's the oil...perhaps the administration doesn't want to upset the world market.

Who knows...but this routine of looking the other way is getting mighty old.

SOMEBODY'S GOTTA SAY IT

I now have the copy for the front flap of the cover of Somebody's Gotta Say It. I guess it's OK to share it with you here:

I've come to the conclusion that roughly 50 percent of the adults in this country are simply too ignorant and functionally incompetent to be living in a free society. You might think I'm off base, but every day around half the people in this country go out of their way to prove me right

From Somebody's Gotta Say It

Think you've got it all figured out? Think again.

Neal Boortz--the Talkmaster, the High Priest of the Church of the Painful Truth--has been edifying, infuriating, and entertaining talk radio audiences for more than three decades with his blend of straight talk and twisted humor. Now, the author of the smash #1 bestseller The FairTax Book returns to gore every sacred cow in the pasture, from the subversive agendas behind children's books to the scam artists behind "High Art."

In Somebody's Gotta Say It, Boortz warms up for the coming political season with a preemptive strike in the War on the Individual: "The Democrats' theme for 2008 will be 'The Common Good.' I can't speak for you, but I am an individual. Government exists to protect my rights, not to order my life. And I damn sure don't exist to serve government." He takes on liberal catchphrases like giving back ("Nobody-especially not the evil, wretched rich-actually earns anything anymore. Why do liberals think this way? Because they find it impossible to acknowledge that people work for money"), our rampant civic idiocy ("We are not a democracy. Never were. Weren't supposed to be. And we shouldn't be"), and Big Brother ("We have smoke-free workplaces. We have drug-free school zones. I say let's start establishing government-free oases, where we can be free to leave our seat belts unbuckled, and peel the labels off anything we choose"). And somehow, along the way, he finds room for pop quizzes, cat-chasing contests, and an answer, once and for all, to the eternal question "Neal, why don't you run for president?"-in a chapter called "No Way in Hell."

Full of irresistible wisecracks and irrefutable libertarian wisdom, Somebody's Gotta Say It is one man's response to America at a time when the government overreaches, the people underperform--and the truth hurts.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

Now THAT'S a largemouth bass. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Two Afghan civilians are being celebrated as heroes
for stepping in and saving an American base in Afghanistan from a suicide bomb.  A vehicle loaded with explosives was trying to crash through the front gate and they stopped it.  Nice work.

There is a resolution going around the Virginia House of Delegates that would apologize for slavery.  This has touched off a firestorm...from both sides.  Those in favor say it would be part of the healing process.  Those with any sense think it is completely ridiculous.

Things aren't looking so good for Fidel Castro.  The thug dictator from Cuba would appear to be dying.  But don't worry...he's putting his brother Raul in charge, meaning that when he assumes room temperature, nothing will change.

Dick Morris doesn't think much of GOP prospects in 2008.
He thinks the early favorites...Mitt Romney, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani won't win the primaries.  Instead, he thinks a "minor-leaguer" will get the nomination and then be blown out by The Hildabeast.  He also says Barack Obama is just a distraction.

Some 34,000 Iraqis were supposedly killed in 2006 as a result of violence in that country.
This is being reported as if it is somehow our fault, instead of the blame lying squarely where it belongs:  with the Iraqi government.  Control your own country, fellas.

Finally...somebody has been indicted in the U.N. Oil-For-Food ripoff.
The former administration of the program, a guy named Benon Sevan, has been brought up on a long list of charges for his role in the scam.  Will anything ever happen to him?  Probably not.

According to the media, it's a real problem that we have a trade deficit with countries like China.  Billions of dollars in goods are bought from that country, but we don't send the same amount in return.  What does John Stossel think about all this?  Read on to find out.

Thomas Sowell continues his series this morning on whether the war in Iraq is anything like the war in Vietnam.  He points out that miscalculations in wars have been the rule and not the exception for several centuries.  It's nothing new.

Dr. Walter E. Williams also weighs in on whether trade deficits are good or bad.
He says news reports about the trade deficit show the level of economic ignorance amongst the mainstream media and the masses.

Michelle Malkin recently went to Iraq and is reporting back on what she saw. She would like to pass along a request from the troops serving there.  She also says that her experience in Iraq has made her more optimistic about the situation than before.
