Neal was at the doctor's office this morning, and had no chance to do any show prep. So his trusty staff put together some of their intemperate thoughts and some reading assignments. When Neal gets back we'll see if he bites on any of this stuff.

A USELESS SENATE RESOLUTION

The Senate is going to vote on a bill opposing the troop increases in the war in Iraq.  What does it mean?  Absolutely nothing.  More symbolism over substance.  By the way, did anyone else notice that whenever he opposes George W. Bush, Nebraska Republican Chuck Hagel is always called a "leading Republican" by the media?

The nonbinding resolution now has two Republicans signed onto it, Hagel and Olympia Snowe of Maine.  Both of them are liberals and are RINO's...or Republicans In Name Only.  So Two Republicans have joined a handful of Democrats in the cowardly losers club...a group whose goal it is for the United States to surrender in Iraq.  So what now?

President Bush is the commander-in-chief.  He is going to send the 21,500 troops to Iraq.  No one can stop him.  What sort of message does it send to those troops when you have United States Senators standing up on Capitol Hill proclaiming the whole thing a mistake?  Nice vote of support, guys.

MALIKI WANTS MORE GUNS

Prime Minister Maliki in Iraq says he could take over his country faster if we give him more weapons.  Problem is, last time we did that, they wound up in the hands of insurgents.  So what are we going to do?  How about we grant his request...on our way out.

It's becoming more and more clear that this might not be the guy to lead Iraq to democracy.  He has his turban in a bunch because Condoleezza Rice made the statement that the government of Iraq was living on borrowed time.  Shot back Maliki:  "Such statements give moral boosts to the terrorists and push them towards making an extra effort and making them believe that they have defeated the American administration, but I can tell you that they haven't defeated the Iraqi government."  At least he sounds confident.

Maliki also defended Saddam Hussein's execution, saying he wasn't subjected to any physical attack or revenge.  That's true...but I suppose Prime Minister Maliki has never heard of a P.R. disaster.  He didn't mention the rope being too long when Saddam's half-brother was being executed.  Did you know his head snapped right off?  A clean break..he didn't feel a thing. But back to Maliki.

If he thinks Iraq can do better with more weapons, then we should grant him his wish.  We just have to be sure they aren't pointed at us.

MEXICANS PROTESTING BORDER PATROL

The Mexican government is protesting the shooting of an illegal immigrant at the border.  A border patrol agent shot and killed the suspect after a struggle because he believed his life was in danger.  The Mexican president is upset.  Well you know what?  Screw the Mexican government...it's our border and we can police it any way we want to.

The Mexicans are demanding a full investigation...and have met with the family of the deceased.  So what was this precious soul doing when he was shot?  Fighting with a border patrol agent.  So now he is taking his final siesta.  He was part of a group of seven, six of which knew better and gave up.  Only one was gunned down.

It's time we put the government of Mexico in its place.  In addition to telling them to go pound tortillas on this matter, President Bush should pardon the two Border Patrol agents that went to prison yesterday for capping that drug dealer down at the border last year.  It's our border...we can run it however we want.

Perhaps it's time the Mexican invaders learned a lesson anyway.  Try and sneak into this country and you just might not make it.

Looks like Michael Vick's latest troubles have already inspired the internets...

SOMEBODY'S GOTTA SAY IT!

It's done. All the editing is over. "Somebody's Gotta Say It" will appear on your bookstore shelves on Tuesday, February 20, 2007. We're making plans to have thousands of books stacked in a dark room in Atlanta for me to sit down and sign ... not book plates, but my autograph on the title page of every one. These are for those of you who might not be able to get to one of my book signings following the release of the book. Just Click Here for your autographed first edition of Somebody's Gotta Say It! We'll ship it to you the week the book debuts. Tentative book tour schedule.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

I guess their homeowners' association is pretty relaxed. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Next week, President Bush will head to the Capitol and deliver his State of the Union address.  The word from the media is the speech will be about his new plan for Iraq.  Here's a preview of what you're likely to hear.

Katie Couric took a shot at President Bush yesterday, but as usual, the media is missing it.  She said it is still awe-inspiring to be briefed at the White House "no matter who" is sitting in the Oval Office.  Nice little dig there, Perky.

Two U.S. Border Patrol agents turned themselves in yesterday to begin
their 10+ years in the slammer for gunning down a Mexican drug runner at the border.  There is an attempt underway to gain a presidential pardon for the men...but they shouldn't hold their breath on that one.

Nancy Pelosi is considering creating a global warming committee
in the House to look for ways to cut greenhouses gases.  In other  news, no word yet if she is thinking of raising the minimum wage in American Samoa.  After all, she has tuna companies to represent.

The media continues its unhealthy fascination with Barack Obama, with reporters recently swarming the Illinois Senator.  What's next..a Barack Obama statue in the press room at the White House?

This is bad news for Hillary Clinton.  According to a Zogby poll, Democrats in Iowa prefer John Edwards to Hillary...by a double-digit margin.  How in the world Goldilocks wound up leading The Hildabeast, we'll never know.

Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman recently went to Iraq to assess the situation there.  He's not coming back with good news...Iraq's national security adviser thinks more troops are a bad move.  Robert Novak is calling Iraq the GOP's black hole.

George Will notes that despite the airline industry's woes after 9/11, the Boeing Company is prospering.
Their chief competition, Europe's government-sponsored Airbus, has recently made some very bad business decisions.

Mark Davis looks inside the Barack Obamamania and says the reason for it is because Obama gives Democrats an alternative to Hillary.  Will Obama deliver on that promise, or become just another overhyped media fad?  Read on to find out.

Cal Thomas says if the presidential campaign were about looks and style,
Obama would run away with the office.  But it isn't...and on substance, Barack Obama comes up more than a little bit short.

More and more Americans are turning to the Internet for news about politics,
which has to be depressing news to the mainstream media.  After all, who is going to read their newspapers?  Who is going to watch the evening news?
