EXCUSE ME, SENATOR LOTT ... BUT WAS THAT A THREAT?

How many times have I reminded you that despots and dictators always seek to control the means by which information is disseminated in their  countries.  Think back --- whenever you hear of a coup or a revolution, where do the revolutionaries head first?  OK ... so it's the presidential palace.  But their second target is going to be the media; the radio and television stations first, then the newspapers.  Several weeks ago in Venezuela Hugo Chavez seized control of the main television station.  It seems that the station just wasn't in step with his socialist policies.  One can imagine that one of Chavez's aide told him that Radio Caracas Television was opposing his policies, and Chavez replied with something like "We have to deal with that problem."

Enter Mississippi Senator Trent Lott, a member of the old guard if ever there was one.  Lott is apparently less-than-pleased that the president's amnesty bill didn't exactly slide unnoticed through the Senate on its way to eventual approval by the House.  In fact, perhaps it can be said that Lott is furious, and he seems to be placing the blame for the trouble the amnesty bill is facing directly on talk radio!

We've known for some time now that the left hates talk radio .. hates it with a blinding, searing passion.  You don't have to look far to see threats from the left as to what they're going to do with and to talk radio when they get control in Washington.  The insipidly-named Fairness Doctrine comes to mind.  A return to the Fairness Doctrine would effectively mean the end of talk radio as we now know it in this country.  In my book "Somebody's  Gotta Say It" I detail just how this would happen.  I also point out that the Fairness Doctrine was a favorite of the right during the Nixon years, used often to badger left-leaning talkers who got in the Nixon Administration's way.

Now we have yet another lesson in how the power of the Imperial Federal Government can be brought to bear against talk radio.  Not only are the threats coming from the left, but now also from the right.  Talk radio is abuzz today --- and I suspect will be for quite a few days -- over a comment made by Senator Lott late this week. According to The New York Times Senator Lott had threw a bit of a snit-fit on Thursday over the failure (thus far) of the amnesty bill.  He is quoted as saying "Talk radio is running America.  We have to deal with that problem."

Now if I were Senator Lott and I wanted to diffuse the uproar over that comment, I would say that what I really meant to say was that we, in the Senate, need to work harder to deal with the problems with the amnesty bill that has talk radio listeners in such an uproar.  I would then amuse the press by spinning around on my eyebrows and spitting twenty-dollar gold pieces.

We know what Senator Lott meant.  Talk radio is getting in the way of a political goal, and therefore talk radio needs to be dealt with.  How?  Why with government regulations and restrictions, of course!  How else does the government deal with pesky little problems?

Kill the messenger.

Talk radio isn't your problem, Senator Lott.  The American people are your problem.  They see right through the false promises of your amnesty bill.  They instinctively know that there is no serious intent to close the border with Mexico and shut off the Mexican invasion.  How do they know this?  Because they know that if you and your fellow elitists in Washington actually intended to secure the borders you would have introduced legislation to do just that.  Then, and only then, you would set about dealing with the problem of what to do with the 12 to 20 million illegals already here.

Most Americans were born at night ..... just not last night.  They instinctively understand that the reason you won't move first to secure the border is because you have no intention lf securing the border at all!  The business interests that are driving this bill (for Democrats, its the votes) are calling the shots here, and the American people see that clearly.

In the meantime, Senator Lott, a word of thanks ... at least from this second-tier talk show host.  I would say that your "Talk radio is running America" statement has driven several million Americans to start twisting their radio dials to see just what is going on out there.  Now we can hike our advertising rates again.  Might as well make  money while we still can.

OUR FREEDOM AT RISK, NOT CLIMATE

The President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus denounced global warming propaganda as a threat to our freedom.  I always knew I liked Czechs, especially good Chechs.  Rright now in Europe, they are still one of our closest allies.

Klaus calls global warming the same thing I call it:  a religion.  Now I know that every religion has to have a deity.  In this case the deity is clearly OwlGore.  All hail the omnipotent and all-powerful OwlGore.

Klaus even goes as far as to say it is "a modern counterpart to communism."  Since this man used to live in a communist dictatorship, is there any chance he knows of which he speaks?   He says this because bleeding-heart global warming freaks want to make sure of two things:  to change your habits and to change economic systems.  Communism?  Perhaps not.  But it certainly is an attack on free market economies.

He says, "As someone who lived under communism for most of his life, I feel obliged to say that I see the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity now in ambitious environmentalism, not in communism. This ideology wants to replace the free and spontaneous evolution of mankind by a sort of central (now global) planning."

The temperature of our planet increased 0.6% in the 20th century.  Less than one degree.  And why the sudden uproar?  Because liberals like Al Gore say we are in a crisis.  And everyone -including his biggest ally, the liberal media - just eats it up.

Klaus also thinks that there are more politicians out there who are truly skeptical of global warming.  What is holding them back ... political correctness.  He says, "The dictates of political correctness are strict and only one permitted truth, not for the first time in human history, is imposed on us. Everything else is denounced."

Now there's a nice turn of a phrase:  "One permitted truth."  Klaus has nailed it.  Either you believe that man is causing global warming, or you're a denier ... something akin to a Holocaust denier.

Here are a few suggestions from the Czech President:

Small climate changes do not demand far-reaching restrictive measures

Any suppression of freedom and democracy should be avoided

Instead of organizing people from above, let us allow everyone to live as he wants

Let us resist the politicization of science and oppose the term "scientific consensus", which is always achieved only by a loud minority, never by a silent majority

Instead of speaking about "the environment", let us be attentive to it in our personal behavior

Let us be humble but confident in the spontaneous evolution of human society. Let us trust its rationality and not try to slow it down or divert it in any direction

Let us not scare ourselves with catastrophic forecasts, or use them to defend and promote irrational interventions in human lives.

PALESTINIAN GOVERNMENT DISSOLVED

We should all be thankful that Democrats and Republicans don't have their own separate armies. Could you imagine?  The Democratic soldiers would be sitting in a circle and discussing their feelings on war and peace.  Republican soldiers would be manning the Mexican-American border with shotguns.  It would be chaos to agree on any joint task ... I promise I'm going somewhere with this.

That is precisely what is going on in the Gaza Strip right now.

Now I don't blame some of you for turning your head to some of this news - it can get pretty complicated.  But it is worth trying to understand, especially with the current upheaval.

The Fatah (or Palestinian Liberation Organization) had been the ruling party in Palestine for quite some time.  It is a nationalist and socialist party that wants nothing more than to establish the rightful Palestinian state.  Fatah seems willing to cooperate with and live peacefully with Israel as their neighbor.  Then in 2006, they lost control of their government to Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic organization.  Hamas, dedicated to the destruction of Israel, is famous for its suicide bombing techniques.  Hamas also claimed responsibility for the train attacks in London.  It is completely and utterly against the existence Israel and wishes to establish an Islamic state.  Hatred would not even begin to describe how Hamas feels about Israel and the Western world.

For days, Hamas has been beheading Fatah soldiers on street corners in Gaza.  And now, President Abbas has dismissed the government and declared a state of emergency.  Now the government, with a Hamas majority, no longer exists.

But why does it even matter??  Hamas, closely aligned with Iran and Syria, has absolutely no regard for the rule of law.  It doesn't matter whether their president decides to dissolve their parliamentary power.  Hamas has everything it thinks it needs:  weapons and angry Muslims.  That's right.  It's a little too late to declare a "state of emergency".  The emergency came when Islamic terrorist groups such as Hamas were allowed to continuing existing, much less rule a nation.

Here's a quote from the peace-loving religion:  "We are telling our people that the past era has ended and will not return," said Islam Shahawan, a Hamas military spokesman. "The era of justice and Islamic rule has arrived."  Now do you want to pay more attention to these stories?  This is ridiculous, folks. Anyone claiming that radical Islam is not a threat is smoking something.  This is a real threat.

And now, Hamas might have found American CIA documents in their Gaza take over.  Consequences? We'll soon find out.

PASSING THE BUCK

Just remember, when in doubt, blame the United States.  Well that's what Mexico is doing.  Do you know that Mexico had the audacity to blame their problem with drug mafias on one thing - U.S. guns laws

You've got it!  It's our fault that Mexico has no control over its citizens.  Just remember that it is our fault that drug cartels resort to violence and high-powered weapons.  It's our fault that Mexicans want to come to the United States so badly.  Got it?

Oh get over yourself Mexico ... and take some damn responsibility for something.  You know that you are printing comic books to tell your citizens how to get to the United States.  You are empowering your citizens to become criminals from the start.

The Mexican government wants us to believe that they are serious about stopping the flow of illegal drugs in this country.  Yeah ... right.  That's why there are so many stories of the Mexican army helping drug smugglers.  Are those stories I've heard in Tucson this week about Mexican military helicopters flying into U.S. airspace in support of drug smugglers accurate?

While their army supports the drug trade, Mexican leaders are tellingus that our guns laws are too loose.  Mexican drug lords can get guns in the U.S.

No.  Guns are a source of protection.  Protection from criminals like those very Mexican drug lords.  Guns don't make violence, people make violence.  If your people weren't so wrapped up in gangs and narcotics, then there wouldn't be a problem.  Would there?

So stop picking and choosing when you want to love the U.S. and when you want to criticize it.  All things considered, now is not the time to make Americans more upset with Mexico.  So get control of your own laws --  not to mention your people.  Then, maybe, you can considering criticizing U.S. laws.  But don't go passing blame onto a country that surpasses your corruption-filled mess in every way.

HARRY LOVES OUR MILITARY

Yeah, right.  That will be the day.  Harry Reid is showing his true anti-military colors again.  In an interview with bloggers on Tuesday, Reid called the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff "incompetent".  I wonder if Reid told General Pace that to his face?  He's also made similar comments about General Patraeus.

Does Harry Reid ever give any thought to how his comments affect our image abroad?  Is he intentionally working to destroy any respect the international community has for our military? Why?  To further his peace-at-any-price agenda?  Democrats already have a well-deserved reputation as being soft on national defense.  Does Reid think that slamming the competence of our military is going to improve that?  Consider the possibility that Reid's comments might actually make America look weak in the eyes of our enemies.  If our own leaders don't believe in our military, why should anyone else?  He is a disgrace.

Good news?  Yes, as a matter of fact there IS some good news!  Harry Reid's approval rating is lower than the presidents. This is as it should be.

READING ASSIGNMENTS:

The peace-loving country of Iran is trying to censor news within the country from reaching the outside world.  Maybe that is because it doesn't want others to know how it is funding terrorism, denying judicial review and hammering women's rights ... just to name a few.

Here's some global warming news you won't see in the liberal media.  Kilimanjaro is not melting because of global warming.  It's melting because of radiation.

How would you feel about graduating according to your ethnic group?  That's what they do at UCLA.  And it's getting pretty tricky with political correctness running amuck.  The Filipinos don't want to graduate with the Vietnamese and the rednecks don't want to graduate with the Yankees.  Inclusion. Its all about inclusion.

Schwarzenegger gets one right.  His message to Hispanics:  Turn off Spanish TV. Turn it off and learn some damn English!

The public is coming to Rush Limbaugh's rescue.  The Broward County Commissioner, Stacy Ritter, refused to play hurricane emergency updates on Rush's station because it is "out of step with area politics."  There seems to be a little hope for us conservative talk radio hosts!

A win for the first amendment in the Supreme Court yesterday.  Teacher's rights trump the those of their precious unions.  So the next time your union wants to spend money on abortion issues or finding housing for illegal aliens, you can say no, my money will not support that.  Well, it's a step in the right direction.

Just in case you missed it, our future president Hillary Rodham has a new propaganda website, HillaryHub
