| Monday - June 18, 2007 EXCUSE ME, SENATOR LOTT ... BUT WAS THAT A THREAT? I posted this particular bit about Trent Lott on Friday ... but I still haven't had a chance to raise hell about this on the show, so I'll edit my remarks a bit and keep them here. Now .... just how many times have I reminded you that despots and dictators always seek to control the means by which information is disseminated in their countries. Like to? It's more than "like to," it's essential. To control the people you must control their access to information. Think back --- whenever you hear of a coup or a revolution, where do the revolutionaries head first? OK ... so it's the presidential palace. But their second target is going to be the media; the radio and television stations first, then the newspapers. Several weeks ago in Venezuela Hugo Chavez seized control of the main television station. It seems that the station just wasn't in step with his socialist policies. One can imagine that one of Chavez's aide told him that Radio Caracas Television was opposing his policies, and Chavez replied with something like "We have to deal with that problem." Maybe that's where Trent Lott got that line. Trent Lott is a member of the old guard if ever there was one. Lott is apparently less-than-pleased that the president's amnesty bill didn't exactly slide unnoticed through the Senate on its way to eventual approval by the House. In fact, perhaps it can be said that Lott is furious, and he seems to be placing the blame for the trouble the amnesty bill is facing directly on talk radio! We've known for some time now that the left hates talk radio .. hates it with a blinding, searing passion. You don't have to look far to see threats from the left as to what they're going to do with and to talk radio when they get control in Washington. The insipidly-named Fairness Doctrine comes to mind. A return to the Fairness Doctrine would effectively mean the end of talk radio as we now know it in this country. In my book "Somebody's Gotta Say It" I detail just how this would happen. I also point out that the Fairness Doctrine was a favorite of the right during the Nixon years, used often to badger left-leaning talkers who got in the Nixon Administration's way. Now we have yet another lesson in how the power of the Imperial Federal Government can be brought to bear against talk radio. Not only are the threats coming from the left, but now also from the right. Talk radio is abuzz today --- and I suspect will be for quite a few days -- over a comment made by Senator Lott late this week. According to The New York Times Senator Lott had threw a bit of a snit-fit on Thursday over the failure (thus far) of the amnesty bill. He is quoted as saying "Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem." Sounds to me like Lott is royally ticked off. He's upset that the American people got right into the middle of the conversation over the problem with illegal aliens, and it didn't turn out all that well for the pro-amnesty forces. We conversed --- we talked. That's what talk radio is ... talk. It is the voices of Americans and the people who are voting for representatives in D.C. If Trent Lott and his other buddies up on the hill aren't listening to "talk," then what are they listening to? The answer is ... either their wallet or their legacy. That's right. Clearly they are not voting to represent their constituents. Wasn't it Bob Schieffer that said we are way out of touch with America? Well he had it backwards, and so does Trent Lott. We have our finger on the pulse of the people. Now if I were Senator Lott and I wanted to diffuse the uproar over that comment, I would say that what I really meant to say was that we, in the Senate, need to work harder to deal with the problems with the amnesty bill that has talk radio listeners in such an uproar. I would then amuse the press by spinning around on my eyebrows and spitting twenty-dollar gold pieces. We know what Senator Lott meant. Talk radio is getting in the way of a political goal, and therefore talk radio needs to be dealt with. How? Why with government regulations and restrictions, of course! How else does the government deal with pesky little problems? You certainly don't think that Lott is thinking of starting his own talk show, do you? Kill the messenger. The real problem here is not talk radio. The real problem is that our elected officials in Washington, or a good number of them, want to ignore the overwhelming voices of the American people regarding the situation with illegal aliens. Bluntly put ... we're in their way. And that's the problem they're trying to deal with. GOODBYE TO 'SANCTUARY CITIES'? If you live in one of these so-called "sanctuary cities," you'd better listen up. Sanctuary cities? Those are the cities that will knowingly protect illegal criminals. Come to a sanctuary city and we'll get you a job! Not legal? No problem. Here, we don't care about the law. If we stop you for a traffic ticket or an assault, it doesn't matter. We won't ask you where you are from, and we won't take any action if we suspect or know that you are in this country illegally. In other words, Sanctuary Cities pick and chose the laws they'll enforce ... all in the name of political expediency. You know who you are: El Paso, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Portland, Tulsa ... These are the cities where illegal criminals know that they are "safe." Isn't that so kind of these cities? Isn't that so kind of the taxpayers of these cities? Illegal criminals in these cities are literally getting away with murder, and they are never reported to authorities. This is because these cities offer protection from the big, bad federal government. You know that I am not the biggest fan of the federal government. But there are laws for a reason, and that number one reason should be to protect citizens. When illegal criminals are not reported on to federal authorities, that is a problem. An illegal alien in Denver was pulled over three times for traffic violations. Every time, he had no proof that he was a legal citizen. He very well may not have had any proof of citizenship or legal residency because he was a criminal -- an illegal alien. No problem for the noble, sanctuary police of Denver! They let the guy go every time, and didn't report him to federal immigration officials. Another illegal criminal alien worked at a restaurant co-owned by the mayor of Denver. Guess what ... the illegal criminal shot and killed and police detective. After investigations, it turned out that the resident-alien card he used to get the job was clearly a fake. But that didn't matter in this sanctuary. And now a police detective is dead. The illegal? He's back in Mexico ... seemingly safe from U.S. law enforcement. Safe here ... safe there. Well last Friday, the House passed an amendment to the Homeland Security appropriations bill. It said that the federal government can withhold emergency-service funding from sanctuary cities. This is precisely what I've been suggesting for months now. (No, I'm sure they didn't get the idea from me.) Now if there is a hurricane or tornado, don't come cryin' to the federal government. That is the least of the price these cities will pay for protecting its criminals. We all know, of course, that even if this amendment and the bill is attached to passed, it wouldn't be enforced. As soon as some disaster hit a sanctuary city the cries of "what about the women and children" would go up and the law would be waived out of humanitarian concerns. But at least it's a start. A better way to go here might be to just withhold non-emergency federal funding ... that way the screams of the left would at least be a bit muted. But wait, it doesn't even matter. Because Bush plans on vetoing the bill. Oh well ... see what happens when I get my hopes up? BBC: 'YES, WE'RE LIBERAL!' After a yearlong study, the BBC has come to terms with reality. It's liberal. Did you hear that? They admitted to have a "biased toward the left." Go figure! Especially on issues of "climate change," poverty, race and religion. The study says that staff members resort to "group think." Sounds just a bit anti-individualistic to me. In one instance BBC officials admitted broadcasting images of the Bible being tossed in the trash. But guess what they wouldn't show? Images of the Koran being thrown away. Why? Because they didn't want to offend the Muslims. That's right. Europeans will buckle at any chance to appease the peace-loving religion of Islam. The UK, remember, is where Muslims are complaining about their treatment in public schools. They have listed recommendations like no co-ed fieldtrips and no exams during Ramadan. It is this type of fear and appeasement that makes Europe as weak as it is in the face of Islamic terrorism. Do you think that American news sources will ever conduct similar studies? Probably not. Because liberal media is so arrogant in its belief that it is truly fair and objective. That'll be the day when NBC or CBS or the NY Times comes out and says, "Oh by the way, we're liberal." Golly .... ya think? HILLARY WANTS IRAQ WAR VOTE DO-OVER Hillary Rodham, our future president, wants a re-do. After voting 'yes' for the Iraq war back in 2002, she, clearly, has "changed her mind." But I guess it's not quite that easy in politics, is it Hillary? She wants to vote again on the war when the Senate debates the 2008 military spending bill. And why would she want to do that? Maybe she thinks this will erase her previous "yes" vote. This way she can tell all of her ignorant constituents, "But look, I voted 'no' for this war!" Sadly, most of the American public probably doesn't even know that she voted for the war in the first place. So maybe this new vote will actually help her. Either way, for those of us who do know ... it is hard to deny that she was looking at the same evidence as the rest of us. Ain't that right, Hillary?? MORE CELEBRITY WORSHIP NEWS .... I happened to catch a bit of "Geraldo at Large" last night on Fox. Clearly, with Geraldo, there had to be a Paris Hilton segment. So there he is, Craig Rivera, the "senior field producer" of the show, interviewing Hilton's friends and family outside of the jail where the Celebutwit is currenly being held. So there I was .. typing furiously ... trying to get the very essence of Craig Rivera's hard-hitting interview ........ "And of course, it's Father's Day. This must be really tough on the family." "How's she feeling?" "What did you say to her?" "What words of encouragement did you offer to Paris?" He then ends the report by telling Geraldo that Paris and her visitors are separated by a wall of glass. "They can't hug her. They can't tell her that everything's going to be OK. " Gag me. Yes .. yesterday was Father's day. Just how many sons and daughters had to spend the day thinking about their fathers serving in harm's way in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some of these children will never see their fathers again ... and Craig Rivera is worried about how tough it is on the Hilton family to have their twit child in jail on Father's Day. Gawd. TODAY'S WONDERFUL NEWS Michael Nifong has been disbarred. ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST! Oops! Looks like I lost another listener: Durn ........
As most of you know, I have never said that I "hated those prolife (sic) people out there." So ... it would seem that "Pastor" Bennett is a bit loose with the truth. I wonder if he actually has a congregation? By the way ... does anyone know where "Jacksonvile" is? And if it were me, and if I was a minister of the Gospel, I do believe that I would capitalize "Christians." But maybe that's just me. READING ASSIGNMENTS: The future head of the World Bank denounced Hugo Chavez's socialist revolution. He also wants to remove Venezuela from the World Bank and IMF. Who knows if that will even make Chavez flinch. But hey, it's a start. Talk about inefficiency. 329,160 legal citizen applicants are still waiting for a name check! The current immigration service is in need of major repair ... and then we want to add amnesty for million of criminals into the mix?? In France, the conservatives lost seats in the Parliament, even after Sarkozy's big win for president. The socialists gained seats. Guess the French couldn't handle too much power being in the hands of conservatives. Not surprising. Republican candidate Mitt Romney wants to increase our military by 100,000. He says he wants to "carry a big stick" like Teddie Roosevelt. A Hispanic brothel service in the middle of Nashville? And a convicted prostitute gets time in jail ... on taxpayer dollars. Why aren't we deporting her? More news from Gaza. The Palestinian president has sworn in a new government, after dissolving it last week when Hamas took over Gaza. Also rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel. Looks like the cease fire is over ... that didn't last long. Even liberals don't seem to like Nancy Pelosi ... can you blame them?? OK, can we all finally agree on something? Stronger border security first. Charles Krauthammer says that no one has stood up against better border enforcement ... but does that actually mean they will enforce the borders? Or are they just keeping quiet to appease the public? Hm, I'll stick with appeasement. Show me someone who really means business.Michelle Malkin writes that it ain't all over 'till the illegal alien wins. How right she is. Mark Steyn (incredible writer!) says that the "immigration" bill is a fraud. I'm sure you've already figured that one out for yourself.
