HEADING TO SAN FRANCISCO!

The Neal Boortz heads to San Francisco over the weekend for a week of broadcasting from our SF affiliate, 860 AM, KTRB! On Monday afternoon at 1:00 Belinda and I will be at the Book Passage in Corte Madera, the "Bay Area's Liveliest Bookstore," to autograph copies of my New York Times Bestseller "Somebody's Gotta Say It!" Golly! I'll be signing books in the exact same place where Bill Clinton once sat! San Francisco isn't going to be the same for some time now.

I GOT THIS ONE WRONG

And I'm leading Nealz Nuze with this correction, not burying it at the bottom. Who do you think I am? The New York Times?

I got something wrong yesterday. Oh, I had help, to be sure, but I got it wrong. The story about the expanded statute of limitations for lawsuits over incidents of child abuse in Delaware was not exactly as I presented it. Yesterday I said that the teacher's unions stood in the way of expanding that statute from two to twenty-five years for employees of government schools. That is not exactly how it happened.

It's true, there is a bill in Delaware to expand the statute of limitations for civil actions relating to child sexual abuse. What is also true is that the Delaware government and all government employees, as is the case with most other states, are generally immune from such lawsuits in the first place because of the concept of sovereign immunity. I was also right in telling you that the highest incidents of child sexual abuse in the country happen at the hands of government school employees.

Now ... here is what has really happened. When the bill expanding the statute of limitations was introduced an amendment was offered by Republican Representative Greg Lavelle that would expand the liability for these lawsuits to the State of Delaware and its employees. That would include the employees of the government schools. That amendment was defeated ... defeated by Democrats. Representative Lavelle is going to offer that amendment again as a separate bill.

We had several discussions with Representative Lavelle's office yesterday afternoon, and he asks some interesting questions. If the legislators in Delaware are saying that the victims of child abuse in Delaware should have 25 years now, instead of two years, to file lawsuits for damages, why should private school teachers be subject to these lawsuits when government school teachers are not?

So .. here's what I got wrong yesterday.

  1. I made it sound as if government school teachers in Delaware were actually subject to those lawsuits now but with a two-year statute of limitation. I was wrong. They're immune from civil even now.
  2. I also made it sound as if only government school teachers were affected by this exemption. Actually, it's all government employees, not just the teachers. The reason teachers are being focused on here is because most other Delaware government employees don't have daily close contact with children, and there is no real record of any significant number of incidents of sexual abuse of children by government employees ... other, that is, than government school employees.
  3. Representative Lavelle's office won't exactly admit that there was any teacher's union pressures brought to bear here.

So .. the essence of my story was correct, but the details need a little straightening out here. I tell you not to believe everything I say on the air unless it is consistent with what you already know to be true, or you've taken the time to check things out for yourself. I just want you to know that we go to some lengths here to get the true scoop on these stories .... even after we cover them on the air. If a correction or clarification is needed, you'll certainly get one.

BOORTZ ON CAVUTO THIS AFTERNOON!

Catch Neal on Your World with Neil Cavuto on the Fox News Channel this afternoon. The show airs at 4pm ET.

BOXER AND THE HILDABEAST ... A "LEGISLATIVE FIX" FOR TALK RADIO?

Senator James Inhofe was a guest on John Ziegler's evening show on KFI in Los Angeles yesterday. Inhofe told Ziegler of an experience he had walking through the Capitol in the company of Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer. Clinton and Boxer were complaining to each other about all the right-wingers on talk radio. They finally reached an agreement that some sort of "legislative fix" was in order. You can hear a part of Inhofe's interview by clicking here.

BAD NEWS FOR THE ENERGY BILL

I hope this damn thing just falls to pieces ... just like the amnesty bill. You want the bad news first? Well I guess it's not terrible, if you're a bleeding heart environmentalist who believes that government is the solution to every problem. Well, yesterday the Senate voted to raise fuel-economy requirements, demanding that they get 35 miles per gallon by 2020. Fine. Have it your way. Quite frankly, natural market forces would have taken care of that anyway. If people are unhappy with their gas mileage, they can just buy a different, more efficient car. That doesn't seem too terribly hard, does it? No! It is the government's job to make sure we, the ignorant subjects, do this!

But on to the good news. Republican Congressmen (oops, did I say "men"?!) managed to block the outrageous package of tax breaks for what they call "renewable sources of energy." Under these tax proposals oil companies would have to pay for renewable sources of energy. Isn't that just a genius plan? And guess who is sad ... he's whining that "There are still good things in this bill" ... Harry Reid. Our favorite - and apparently yours too! - House majority leader.

Are you folks understanding how big this is? The defeated package called for $32 billion in tax breaks for renewable energy, and $29 billion was going to come from additional taxes on the oil industry.

The opponents were right. Forcing the oil companies to take their profits and, through taxes, invest those profits not in oil production, but in "renewable sources of energy", would just raise oil prices. Is that we we're looking for right now?

Democrats were really counting on these new taxes on oil companies. They're really quite upset their plans have failed. Perhaps they'll be bringing the proposal back for another vote!

Could the American people actually be smarter than that? If the immigration bill has taught us anything, it is that Americans are willing to voice their opinions on issues that really matter to them. Sorry Harry. You can go cry on Nancy's shoulder now. But don't worry, it will be reconsidered soon enough. So we can go through the whole thing again! Just so Harry can have his way.

THE LATEST SPORT: EXTREME TAX EVASION

We can safely assume that I am not a huge fan of the IRS ... ok so maybe that is an understatement. Well Ed and Elaine Brown apparently aren't fans either. Why is that? Because they don't want to pay their taxes. In fact, they refuse to pay their taxes! The Browns were sentenced to 63-month prison sentences in April, after being convicted of conspiring to evade taxes on nearly $1.9 million. They give the same old excuse that no law authorizes the federal income tax and that the 1913 constitutional amendment permitting it was never properly ratified.

Well they have a point. But Ed and Elaine are sitting on top of a mountain staring down at the rest of the world that is paying taxes to have police and SWAT teams perched at their doorstep. And the neighbors are mighty upset about their little stunt. That will make for great neighborhood cookouts in the future.

I don't have the guts (or energy) to do something spectacular like this, I just write books about taxes instead! Who knows when Elaine and Ed will surrender ... maybe after the FairTax plan becomes law! I hope they have a lot of supplies in that compound of theirs. It could be a little while.

Look, folks. We can change this .. but not by sitting around and refusing to pay lawful taxes. Concentrate on reform, and leave the grandstanding to the fringe groups.

SELF DEFENSE ISN'T AN EXCUSE ... YOU GOT THAT?

Here's the scenario. I'm going to tell the story, and then you are going to place bets on how long the hero will serve in jail.

Police try to pull over a car driven by a man wanted on outstanding warrants. The man refuses to pull over. Rather than get into a high speed chase, the police decide to give up. Soon after, the man in the car knocks on the door of the home, which happened to be owned by the parents of a police officer. The officer wasn't on duty. He opens the door, holding his baby in his arms, only to find the wanted man. He forces his way into the house and gets into a fight with the off-duty officer. The officer shoots the intruder several times until he is DRT. (The baby isn't hurt.)

Way to go, pal! But ... I have a question! How long? Will he end up like Colin Bruley? "You're fired." Or even worse, in prison? With the way we are going, I have little faith in people, or government, to recognize brave action.

HOLA, MEXICO? ANYBODY HOME?

This is a priceless story. Border patrol agents in San Diego notice a suspicious SUV and begin to follow it. The SUV notices it is being followed and heads straight for Mexico. Everyone gets to the border to find 20 Mexicans on the U.S. side of the border erecting a metal ramp so that the SUV could climb over the wall and back into Mexico. They didn't make it. The occupants bailed out of the car and the whole crew ran back to Mexico! Isn't that nice? Straight off into a sombrero sunset.

What did they find (besides a lot of half-eaten tacos)? 60 bags of marijuana valued at $735,000. That's a lot more in pesos!

And the kicker: US border patrol agents called Mexican authorities to report the men. But sadly, no one was home to pick up the phone ...

And there you go, folks! The war on drugs and illegal immigrants all rolled into one!

AWW ... ISN'T THAT CUTE?

A government school board meeting in Seattle was shut down last night. Thirty government educated geniuses decided to protest military recruitment in public schools. They marched in to the meeting singing a creative tune, "Yo School Board, what's up? We're here to say we've had enough." I suppose that is all the grammar and language skills they could muster up. Covered in fake blood, students collapsed to the floor, while others were carried around the room.

Isn't that just amazing? I wonder where they got the idea for a little stunt like that. Well it is Seattle ... but come on, folks! How young do our children have to be before we fill their heads with anti-military hatred. How can young, government educated minds hate the military so much that they organized a stunt like this?

Parents. Parents who let their children be educated in government schools - that is the biggest crime of all. Why don't we just round up the little pre-schoolers singing "It's a Small World!" and have them join forces with these brilliant minds.

I'm sure the men and women serving our country would just love to see that. They would just love to see their children have such love and admiration for this country and the men and women who die to protect it.

Sorry Nancy Pelosi. But we, the taxpayers, will no longer pay for you to travel to countries that sponsor terrorism. You can do that on your own liberal dime.

Immigration and Customs agents arrest three illegal aliens selling false immigration documents. Now what about the companies that hired people with false documents?

Well it's about time. Dissidents in Cuba decided that yesterday was the day to come up with the plan to transition to a democracy. In the meantime, let's see how many of them end up in prison.

Isn't the UN just a great institution? Less than half of its members have turned in their reports on how they are complying with Iran sanctions ... something to hide? Or sheer laziness? I guess we'll find out.

We can thank the icebergs for saving us from global warming! An increase in drifting ice is creating a vast new ecosystem of plankton, krill and seabirds that may absorb some of the carbon dioxide that drives up temperatures. I think the world's SUV drivers are getting together a plan to firebomb the icebergs so that their plot to destroy the world won't be foiled.

It looks like Guantanamo Bay is on life support. It's almost certain to be closed. So now what? Just let these "enemy combatants" back out onto the streets?

Apparently the British are getting pretty testy with more and more Muslim women walking around in veils covering them head-to-toe. More women have been wearing the veils since 9/11, to protest the war in Iraq. Who knew protesting could be so sexy?

Talk about dangerous terrorists. A grandmother accidentally brought a bread knife on a plane. Now she has to pay $500 and she will forever be placed on the terror watch list. Golly, I feel safer now!

Sorry to all you younger siblings out there. Apparently your big brother or sister get the brains ... My family obviously was the exception.

Do your precious angels (or heck, maybe even you!) suffer from "Internet/video-game addiction." The American Medical Association might make this a formal diagnosis. Yeah ... I'd love to see that doctors note! Now ... how long before states mandate insurance coverage to treat this hideous addiction?

We discussed this story yesterday. MSNBC did an investigation into the political contributions of reporters. Bear in mind, most journalists are smart enough not to make campaign donations. They don't want to be that obvious. But of those who do, only 19 out of 144 contributed any money to Republicans. Now ... tell me the mainstream media isn't biased. Me? OK, that's fair. I've only made campaign contributions to personal friends. That's it. And no ... you will never find me contributing to a Democrat in a national election.
