The political class and the special interests won yesterday. We're now down to the business of debating some amendments. Trust me, nothing is going to be done to give the American people what they want. There might be amendments that give unions what they want, or amendments adopted that give Hispanic activists what they want, but don't look for anything that will give the American people what they want. It's about votes. Votes and cheap labor. Democrats think that these Hispanic votes will all be theirs. Republicans are afraid that if they don't go along with the amnesty plans, and if they do actually seal the border, whatever Hispanic votes they have left will be gone. In the middle of all this we have the corporate interests who are looking for cheap and plentiful labor. So .. amnesty is alive and well, and anyone who expects that the border is going to be closed and the invasion halted is dreaming. The Boortz staph has been hard at work ... making lists and checking them twice. Here is the list. (And trust me ... this isn't a list you want to be on.) The following Senators voted, yesterday, in favor of cloture on the amnesty bill. Basically, this means that the amnesty bill will pass - thanks to them. Now these Senators are also up for reelection. Do you get where I am going with this? I see the light bulbs starting to flicker. The American people may still have some control over government, but there is only one way to show it. Vote. In November 2008, go and vote. Exercise that privilege as an American citizen. It's the only way you can really show them that they were wrong. Americans don't want to grant amnesty to criminals. These Senators don't represent you ... and you want a change. All of this talk about talk radio running America ... as flattering as that is -- it is wrong. Americans run America. Voters run America. If you don't vote ... if you don't cast an informed and intelligent vote ... you're part of the problem. So there you have it. Now, on to the list.
Biden (D-DE) (technically running for President ... getting nowhere fast) Now here is a list that might be even more interesting. There are 34 Senators up for reelection in 2008. Of those 34 Senators, 16 voted against cloture (and one, Johnson, didn't vote). Some of these were surprise "changes of heart." You can safely assume that these Senators aren't politically stupid. They want to be reelected. And they knew that constituents do not want amnesty for criminals. So they changed their vote. They voted against cloture. Here's the list: Allard (R-CO) Baucus (D-MT) Chambliss (R-GA) Cochran (R-MS) Cornyn (R-TX) Dole (R-NC) Enzi (R-WY) Inhofe (R-OK) Landrieu (D-LA) Roberts (R-KS) Rockefeller (D-WV) Sessions (R-AL) Shelby (R-AL) Smith (R-OR) Sununu (R-NH) And now we must move on. Here is what Harry Reid has up his sleeves next ... yep, all amendments must be debated and voted on in 30 hours or less. Looks like we really going to get some in-depth "comprehension reform."
A Harvard political scientist, Robert Putnam, did a little study that might interest you. His topic ... immigration and ethnic diversity. The results are shocking, not at all what he expected. In fact, the study results that this liberal, academia bed-wetter wanted to wait until after the immigration debate to publish it. Why? Because it is damaging to the pro-illegal immigration debate. Not only that, but he was scrambling to find ways to compensate for the negative effects of diversity. Are you getting this? He was afraid what right-wingers would do with the news. He had something that went against his liberal, academia beliefs and withheld the study until he could figure out a way to spin the results so as not to offend his and his liberal colleague's tender sensibilities. OK ... gotcha. Now you're curious. You want to know what the study said, right? Putnam's study reveals that immigration and diversity not only reduce social capital between ethnic groups, but also within the groups themselves. He uses the analogy of a turtle, saying that people who live in ethnically diverse setting "hunker down." They don't assimilate. They don't embrace each other and share tortilla dinners together. They sit in front of the television and waste away .. they pull into their shells. Putnam found that the more diverse the neighborhood, the less residents trust neighbors. In ethnically diverse cities like LA and San Francisco, 30% of people say that they trust their neighbors. In ethnically homogeneous cities, the figure is as high as 80%. Putnam says that people in diverse communities tend "to withdraw even from close friends, to expect the worst from their community and its leaders, to volunteer less, give less to charity and work on community projects less often, to register to vote less, to agitate for social reform more, but have less faith that they can actually make a difference, and to huddle unhappily in front of the television." Sounds like a neighborhood you we would all really love to live in, doesn't it? This magic ethnically diverse community that we've been hearing so much about doesn't sound like a community that is going to be all that active in government. Perhaps they don't even care about who is representing them and what issues are facing the communities in which they live. And it doesn't matter whether they are poor communities or safe communities ... the findings are all the same. In general, Putnam found that the more people are brought into contact with another race or culture, the more they stick to their own, and the less they trust others. This is the America that our Senate have just promoted with their amnesty bill. We're not speaking racism here. We're speaking culturalism. People tend to gravitate toward a culture they understand and are comfortable with. Here is a study that we're probably not going to hear much about.
The de-classifying of this material smells of a political ploy, particularly because of its timing. While it might be a fun little reading assignment to comb through thousands of pages of CIA documents (yeah ... sounds like a pants full of fun), there is absolutely nothing positive that can come of it right now; while we're engaged in a struggle against Islamic fascism. In 1960, if you had said that Islamic fascism and illegal immigration would be the biggest problems facing our country ... people would have laughed. We are in a different world. And now we have all of these documents that will be "evidence" to prove the wrongs of the CIA and U.S. intelligence and the essential badness of America. The only "wrongs" that I care about are those that we can learn from. Are those that will help us fight our war on Islamic extremists that will strap suicide bombs to little children and march into crowds of innocent civilians. So unless these "jewels" can help us do that, I'm not interested. And I am certainly not going to have my tax dollars fund any "investigations" into events that happened nearly half a century ago. Hugo Chavez has nationalized nearly every part of Venezuela. That would mean that he has seized U.S. oil interests in his crumbling country. Thus far the only action he has taken that has really upset the people is his closure of a popular television station. We knew this next step was coming: the oil industry. U.S. oil giants ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil Corp. had oil projects in the Orinoco region of Venezuela. Key word: had. Chavez took over the multi-billion dollar oil projects. And now what? He has to pay. He must pay to compensate for the billions of dollars that the Venezuelan government (notice that is government and not people) will gain, while the private sector loses out. But who is going to force him to fork over the cash? Venezuela has one of the world's largest crude oil reserve. If properly handled, Chavez could eventually produce more oil than Saudi Arabia, because of this Orinoco region. And it is entirely his. Venezuela is the fourth-largest provider of oil. And now, Chavez has complete control of the industry. That's it. And you know what this means? Unions. Stronger unions. If you work in the oil industry and are anti-Chavez ... go ahead and quit now. He has done it before and now he will do it again. Look at his audacious move with the anti-Chavez TV station. Oil will be (if it already isn't) the largest creator of jobs for Venezuelans BUT you must support Chavez in order to keep the job. Make sense? Would you vote for Chavez now ... just so little Jose and Maria can eat at night? The power this man is wielding is astounding, folks. By the way ... do you buy gas at Citgo stations?
REDNECK SCRAP BOOK As we've said before, rednecks might be the best recyclers we've got! More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS Here's a Wall Street Journal editorial in favor of the amnesty bill. See ... we'll present all sides here. That's 'cause we're running the country. Ed Schultz is the latest whiner over conservative talk radio, saying that liberal radio listeners are being denied the "fair market opportunity" their conservative counterparts get. It's a free market, Ed. I know Ed. Good guy. In fact, we're syndicated by the same folks. But Ed needs to understand that the listeners have spoken on this issue, and left-wing talk radio just isn't cutting it. John Stossel writes about "big government conservatives." Dick Morris says that pulling the troops out of Iraq -- in other words, throwing in the towel -- might "save the GOP." Is this about saving the Republican Party or protecting this nation from Islamic terrorism? You gotta see this website. I think that Clark Howard is the author ... though I'm not sure. Bill Clinton says that Hillary is not going to be what he calls be "Swift Boated." You gotta hand it to Democrats. They have taken the term "Swift Boated" and made it stand for a series of attacks that have no basis in truth. The fact is, the charges brought by the Swift Boat veterans have never been shown to be untrue. Congress is attempting to tackle the largest problem with the amnesty bill: border security. The plan is to "delay" privileges to special interest illegal immigrants from Islamic countries ... delay? Is that all you've got? How about deny. Dick Morris has some thoughts on what to do with Iran. His plan: We can stop investing in companies that invest in Iran. More of your tax dollars down the drain, for the environment, national parks and global warming research. How special. Rudy is taking shots at Bill Clinton for his liberal, appeasement strategies in the face of Islamic terrorism. The Montgomery Board of Education is stirrin' the puddin' after approving a curriculum that teaches children that "some babies are born homosexuals." Prisoners in Sweden are getting so fat from prison food, that they want the government to compensate for a new post-prison wardrobe. Do you owe a library fine? No worries ... just bring in some toiletries and we'll call it even! Here's a pair of excellent parents who left their kid sitting in the sun as they rode "Pirates of the Caribbean" at Disney World. Angela Merkel is having a rough time lately. A Polish magazine published a nude photo of her in a crude position with Poland's Prime Minister. That's one photo I will not be searching for. Rosie's little anti-war angel This, my friends, is one bizarre woman. In this week's Boortz Blast newsletter, we will have a moving piece When A Soldier Comes Home From War that'll definitely put things in perspective for you. Don't get the Boortz Blast? Sign up here.
